Delhi Metro launches a new Smart Card with auto-top up feature

To contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic Delhi Metro has been shut since the lockdown begins in the country. Now it is gearing up to soon commence the services when it starts getting normal. Now it has launched a new smart card in the city that comes with an auto top-up feature. Whenever the Metro Services resume this feature will allow the commuters to recharge it automatically at Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates of the Metro stations. This smart card will be available through the App ‘Autope’ which is specially developed for this purpose.

The new Delhi Metro smart card is known as the Zero Human Intervention Metro Smart Card that will be available through the app Autope. The dedicated app comes with an auto top-up functionality whenever the value of the card reaches below Rs 100 while automatically recharging the card with Rs 200 at the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) Entry Gate itself. Delhi Metro notifies that the ‘Autope’ will auto-debit the topped-up value from the customer’s linked card/bank account the next working day.

At the moment, the commuters either have to buy a Delhi Metro Smart Card or a token from the counter themselves for the ride. But now the existing cardholder will also get this feature enabled by registering through the app. After registering the customers have to visit the Customer Care Centre of any of the Metro stations after three days of registration to get their smart cards activated for this facility as a one-time exercise.

DMRC in its statement said, “This feature comes handy at these times wherein, commuters are going to follow a new travel protocol (whenever Metro services resume) which calls for social distancing and contactless services due to the ongoing COVID pandemic. However, irrespective of the new card/feature, the existing Smart Cards owned by the commuters will continue to remain valid in the same manner as they used to be so far.”

Besides this, the customers can also ask for the home delivery of the new cards via the app only besides their customisation facility and 5% additional discount on each top-up.

This feature will help DMRC in maintaining social distancing, there is no need to queue up at the Stations to get the Smart Card recharged. Generally, even in case of online recharges, the card needs to be presented to Add Value Machines (AVMs) for the store value to be validated; ‘Autope’ eliminates the AVM layer as well.

Autope smart cards are supported by the auto-debit facilities for recurring payments launched recently by the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) and it allows the customers to set up UPI Mandate for their Metro payments. ‘Autope’ is developed by M/s Anduril Technologies Pvt. Ltd. in association with DMRC and NPCI.

At the moment Autope app is available for download for Android users via Google Play store while the Mobile app will soon be available on Apple store for iPhone users. The users can also get their Bank / Credit Card / UPI account linked to the Card via Autope’s mobile site autope.in A nominal fee (maximum of 1%) will be charged a convenience fee from the customer for each transaction.

Apple to release Made India iPhone 12 in middle of 2021: Report

Recently a report popped up on the internet that claimed that the upcoming models of the Apple iPhone 12 and the launch event have been postponed to October. This is due to some technical glitch in the camera set up of the mobile phone. But another report has appeared claiming that the new iPhone 12 devices will now be made in India.

Recently Apple began the manufacturing of its current flagship iPhone 11 at its Chennai plant. And now the company is planning to extend this to yet to be launched iPhone 12 also under the government’s Make in India initiative. This big move will give a big boost to the initiative and will be ready to be assembled by the middle of next year.

According to the report by Business Standard, stepping up its thrust on manufacturing in India, American tech giant Apple is planning to roll out locally made models of its upcoming iPhone 12 by the middle of next year, sources close to the development have said.

To locally produce the iPhone 12 series in India a Taiwan based contract Manufacturer Wistron will begin the work at its plant in Narasapura near Bengaluru. The company has plans to invest Rs 2,900 crore and the contractor will be hiring 10,000 employees at its new plant. According to the report, the plant is to be ready by October this year and around 1000 workers have already started working on the plant.

Apple’s move is to avoid the 22% of import duty being imposed on its devices. Though the company has still not decreased the prices of iPhones in India but in due course, this would bring down the cost of Apple’s devices hence becoming more affordable in the country.

At the same Wistron plant-based in Bengaluru, the company is also preparing to assemble its new iPhone SE 2020. Right now the second generation of SE models is currently available in India manufactured and imported by China.

Notably, Apple has also gradually increased its manufacturing in India and reducing its dependence on China which will bring a significant boost to Make in India. At the moment it is manufacturing iPhone 6s, iPhone 7 and iPhone XR and iPhone 11 in India.

Wistron is an Apple supplier that already operates in Karnataka to manufacture iPhone 7 in India. At the moment Apple’s plan to produce the iPhone 11 has been put on hold due to the Coronavirus outbreak and the company has also been waiting for the government’s decision to ease some rules for its Production Linked incentive scheme. It is a move to attract US companies to expand their manufacturing plants from China to other parts of the world.

Google rolls out new multi-room audio control from Nest

0

Google has now launched multi-room control for its users so they can dynamically group multiple cast-enabled Nest devices (speakers, Smart Displays, Chromecasts) in real-time to fill rooms with music. According to the tech giant, Multi-room control works with the users’ favourite audio apps, including YouTube Music, Spotify, Pandora and more.

If a user has more than one Google Assistant-enabled smart speaker or Smart Display, all they need to do is to tap the icon in the bottom left corner of the screen when any audio content is playing. They will easily be able to add or remove their other devices throughout the home.

This update helps Nest devices come together as a whole-home audio system. The multi-room control interface will start rolling out to all Nest Hub, Nest Hub Max and other compatible Assistant-enabled Smart Displays today, and the same functionality will be coming to the Google Home app later this fall.

Besides this update, Chris Chan, Product Manager at Google Nest, has shared few other ways the update helps him take advantage of the audio system:

  1. Now, it’s possible to move music from one room to another

Stream transfer lets you easily move music, videos, podcasts and more between compatible devices in your home using your voice, the Google Home app or the touchscreen on your Nest smart display.

  1. Now, experience stereo sound

Stereo pair two Nest Mini or Google Home Max devices in the Google Home app for room-filling sound and even more immersive left and right channel separation.

  1. Now, get new music recommendations

YouTube Music and Spotify Premium subscribers can ask, “Hey Google, recommend some music” and Google Assistant will offer multiple choices from artists and genres that they like, and others like them to choose from.

Earlier, Google had introduced a software update to make Google Nest Wi-Fi even much better to offer enhanced support for multiple video calls, gaming sessions and more simultaneously.

The software update, which includes general security and stability improvements, will also improve device connection speeds on wireless networks and optimizations so that the devices move to faster Wi-Fi radio channels.

According to Sanjay Noronha, Product Manager, Google Nest, “Our priority device feature is also getting smarter, so you can rest assured Wi-Fi traffic will be prioritized to the device you choose. This means you can make sure your work laptop is getting the strongest Wi-Fi available, as opposed to the kids’ YouTube sessions. And the best part is these updates will be pushed automatically, no action required on your end.”

Huawei Watch GT 2e smartwatch review: A sporty smartwatch for everyday use

0

Huawei launched the GT 2 series of smartwatches last year and now they are out with its sibling in the form of Huawei Watch GT 2e. We played around with it for more than 10 days to understand what makes it tick and what makes it talk. This is our assessment of the Huawei Watch GT 2e.

In This Article

Design

Well, out of the box Huawei Watch GT 2e does look a lot like the GT 2. But it does have its own distinct features. For example, it is built for the more sporty younger generation who are always up to something outdoorsy. The band is two-tone and is made of rubber silicone that does make it a good companion if you are hitting the gym or are going for a run. The perforations on the strap make it more breathable and sweat will not stick around for long on it. The silver metal dial comes back on the Huawei Watch GT 2e, however this time it is a seamless experience between the crown and the glass. 2 buttons for power on/off and feature settings can also be found on the steel façade.

You do get a large 1.39-inch AMOLED touch screen on the Huawei Watch GT 2e, same as its sibling. Will talk more about it in the performance section. At the back, you get the charging points around the heart rate as well as SpO2 (blood oxygen saturation) monitor. Both of which, by the way, are quite accurate. All in all, in the looks and design department the Huawei Watch GT 2e does a brilliant job. Yes, it is slightly heavier than the regular smartwatches’ you get these days, but those do not provide you with the extra-long battery life as this one does.huawei GT 2e back

Performance

First, let us quickly talk about the tech specs of the Huawei Watch GT 2e. It comes with a 1.39-inch AMOLED display with touch and gesture controls. It comes with 4GB of internal memory, a Kirin A1 CPU and the battery can last for 14 days. Bluetooth V5.1 is supported, which makes it easier to operate with the latest smartphones at better speeds. Talking about which you can download the Huawei Health app on your smartphone to operate many of its features including the watch faces. This we loved, as the library of watch faces is very large, and one can have fun with a new watch face every day.

Over that, the Huawei Watch GT 2e is 5ATM water-resistant. That means is it water-resistant in up to 50 meters of water. You can take out for a swim in the pool or in the ocean and nothing will happen to it. There are over 80 work out modes supported by Huawei Watch GT 2e including climbing, cycling, running, triathlons, hiking, swimming and more. Does not matter which sport you are training for this watch has a training mode for you. We took it out for a run, and it was very accurate. 9 out of 10 times we got correct data from it.

Huawei Watch GT 2e smartwatch has a sleep monitor too. It is a great feature to own to track your sleep patterns on the Huawei app and it gives you suggestions for better sleep as well. We for one didn’t use it a lot as the watch is a bit too bulky for us to sleep with. But for some, it might be good. Overall, we found the performance of the Huawei Watch GT 2e to be quite accurate and the large and bright touchscreen makes it somewhat of an eye candy. You can change the straps also, but it is a bit of a task to switch them.

Verdict

All in all, at Rs 11,990 the Huawei Watch GT 2e is a steal. It has a lot of features going for it and one just cannot get over the long 14-day battery life. No matter how you use it, you end up getting more than 11 days at least. Users can also take snapshots or control music via this smartwatch and connected Huawei smartphone. In India, it is available in 2 colours Blue and the Green (the one we reviewed). Must say our heart is set on the green colour.

Motorola One Fusion+ review: The complete package in a budget

Lenovo owned company, Motorola, launched One Fusion+ in India, which is the company’s first handset that comes with a pop-up selfie camera. Also, it offers a resolution of 16-megapixels. For the unknown, this device is not the first smartphone to have a motorised front camera by Moto. Motorola One Hyper, which was launched last year but could not make it to the Indian market was companies first. Moto One Fusion+ has been launched with a price tag of Rs 16,999, giving a tough fight to its competitors that fall under the same price segment. So today we are here with the review of Motorola One Fusion+ to help you know how the phone performs and its design value while covering the other aspects of the handset.

Design and Display

Starting with the design first, the all-new Motorola One Fusion+ is not as new as it seems. It’s 2020, while other smartphone companies are experimenting with the build and design of their devices, Motorola is not giving something very fresh (which we found to be unusual coming for them). There is the same plastic body, though this time it has not gone just plain jane, it has textured back with the same vertical camera set up and fingerprint sensor with a batwing Moto logo.

Design and Display

There is now a premium touch given to it that does not look more plasticky. However, the company has not provided any protected layer (in the form of screen guard) to protect the phone against scratches, which again is odd in this price segment. Moving on, not using a whole glass body makes the phone less bulky. The box comes with a phone back cover too, but one does not need it as it already has a plastic back and is good enough. But it does catch fingerprints easily so to avoid that you can use the case on the phone.

Design and Display

There’s no notch on the front, so you get a clean full display with slim bezels on the sides with a noticeable chin. The Volume rocker placed on the right side of the phone. While the audio jack, a USB Type-C port and a speaker are positioned at the bottom.

As said, you get a full display experience on this phone as there is no hindrance in the form of a notch. Motorola One Fusion+ comes with a 6.5-inch full-HD+ display supporting 1,080×2,340 pixels of resolution, 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 395ppi pixel density. It has an Always-On Display that will display notifications on screen as and when they come. Streaming videos on it is such a treat to your eyes as the display is sharp while the colours are vibrant. So you get an impressive nice-looking and a slim LCD panel with a standard refresh rate of 60Hz and support for DCI-P3 colours.

Performance and camera

Motorola One Fusion+ has arrived with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 processor together with Adreno 618 GPU for graphics. This smartphone is only sold in a single 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage model, which can be expanded up to 1TB using a hybrid microSD card.

To find out how fast the latest offering from Motorola is we ran a few benchmarking apps on it. The results below are very decent.

Geekbench

Multi-core:1,711

Single-core:543

AnTuTu:2,74,004

On the software front, you get a stock Android experience on this smartphone, which is clutter-free. Users will not find any unnecessary apps on the Motorola One Fusion+. You get a smooth performance even while multitasking. Though there are a few uninstallable apps on it, you can disable the rest if they are of no use to you. Also, you can personalise the layout of your home screen, fonts and more. This is the best part about the phone as you do not need to install a third-party app to personalise your device to change the shapes of the icons, customise UI colour and more. During the testing, it did not hang at all, which is impressive. Also, not to forget this device has the gesture shortcuts for fast access to the camera, flashlight and more. And yes there you also have nice looking live wallpapers.

review of Motorola One Fusion+

On the gaming front, Motorola One Fusion+ also did well. We ran Call of Duty Mobile and PUBG Mobile with ease. Though there is a single speaker on the phone, there is an amazing sound experience that we missed in some of the smartphones in the segment. It is loud and very clear.

Next, we tested the performance of the camera, Motorola One Fusion+ has a 1+3 camera setup. There is a 64-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. Further assisted by, a secondary 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens with f/2.2 aperture, a 5-megapixel macro sensor with f/2.4 aperture and a 2-megapixel depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture. While on the front there is a 16-megapixel pop-up selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture.

Personally speaking, Motorola devices offer the best camera performance in any price segment. Motorola One Fusion+ has various camera modes to capture the most beautiful shots. The device performed its best even in darkness; surprisingly, the pictures turned out to be soft and less noisy. It comes with a dedicated Night Vision feature which enhanced the pictures more. While the HDR Mode delivered pulsating images.

Shooting the images from the wide-angle camera also delivered good shots. Some of the images seemed to be less sharp when compared to the primary camera, but that is the case with most smartphones these days. On the other hand, the macro images on the phone captured were always impressive and sharp. We must add, the macro images produced were well detailed and came out with natural colours close to life. The portrait shots were impressive too, the edge detection on it is also on point, and you can also set the level of blur before you take one.

The Motorola One Fusion+ comes with a pop-up selfie camera that pops up when you switch from rear to front. The images captured here were perfect and had the right amount of details with perfect edge detection. And, the night mode comes to the rescue in low light situations. Overall the camera setup did impress us.

After all the testing, the device’s battery lasted for more than a day when used excessively. This included watching videos, movies, capturing images, gaming and browsing Facebook and checking our Instagram feed. If you are a moderate user, then it would last for 1.5 days, while for light users it can last for more than that on the Motorola One Fusion+.

Verdict

On the whole, we would say the Motorola One Fusion+ has good battery life as there is a 5,000mAh battery bundled with an 18W TurboCharger in the box for faster charging. The cameras were great, and they also performed well. The rear-mounted fingerprint sensor is also quick. Motorola One Fusion+ can handle PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty well at high settings too. During the review, we did not come across any lag or heating issues. All in all, it is a whole package and gives a tough competition to other brands who are offering smartphones in this price segment.

Pros

Longer Battery life

Vibrant images

Smooth Performance

Bloatware free

Cons

Higher refresh rate missing

Not happy with the design

Huawei, a tech giant of China, wants to help Canada develop 5G technologies

0

5G is the main priority of digital charter

When Justin Trudeau’s government took over the country in 2016, it laid out a plan for the development of the digital economy. In 2019 the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Industry published the Digital Charter. The document is a set of principles that Canada will follow as the digital economy advances. The government will try to provide equal access to digital technologies and the internet for all citizens. They want the process of digitization to be transparent and secure. For this purpose, they organized meetings and panels with industry representatives and businesspersons all over the country. A major part of the digital economy is cryptocurrencies. The government actively supports the industry. Other branches were allowed to accept digital currencies from their users. The iGaming sector was one of the first branches to adopt financial technologies and allow their users to play with digital currencies. After this change, the industry started booming. The users were not limited to the traditional money option. Providing the choice to pay with cryptocurrencies made it easier for players not just in Canada but around the world to spend more time playing. Crypto revolution was a true gift for players who received bitcoin slots, roulette and jackpot games. Top-tier casinos created exclusive games for only BTC users and that decision attracted more players. The transactions of traditional money can consume too much time. It might take days before the money reaches the destination. Allowing cryptocurrencies enabled users, especially outside Canada, to not worry about time anymore. The digital currency transactions take under an hour sometimes and are very fast and easy. Canada saw the potential of digital currencies, unlike other big countries like The United States. Digital industries and cryptocurrencies turned out to be a perfect match, and many Canadian companies saw a big growth after implementing digital currencies, as we saw on the example of iGaming platforms. Experts believe that after iGaming industry’s success, 5G would be another ‘winning decision” from Trudeau’s office. 5G would help the further development of the digital economy and could potentially lessen the impact and economic losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The First 5G Network Will Roll-out in Canada Anytime in 2020

Telus is planning on launching the first 5G network in Canada by the end of 2020. The company might use Huawei’s technologies. CFO of Telus Dough French said that the company tries to follow the government regulations and so far everything is going according to the plan. The company is also open to more proposals from tech firms besides Huawei. Other companies want to start a 5G network in 2020. However, the government of Canada is considering imposing restrictions on the companies because of some privacy concerns.

Why Huawei was the first choice

The Chinese company Huawei is one of the top network infrastructure providers in the world. They also sell the equipment for much lower prices than their competitors. Huawei is leading research on the development of technologies and owns 2,700 patents, even though not all of them are trustworthy. Telus and Huawei are long time collaborators and Telus has been getting data for lower rates than they could get from other companies. Imposing restrictions on 5G could mean big delays in time and a big rise in the cost.

The US Presses Canada on Their Decision Over Huawei’s Ban

Huawei is considered untrustworthy by the United States government. The US authorities accuse Huawei of spying on their clients and conducting unlawful surveillance, as well as using the gathered data for their close collaboration with the Chinese government. The US authorities want Canada to ban Huawei’s involvement in the development of 5G in Canada. The Canadian government stated that they are working on the subject of 5G and that Canada will make its own decision about the 5G networks in the country.
