Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) receives a price cut again

Last month, South Korean technology giant Samsung slashed the price of its Galaxy A9 (2018) smartphone by Rs 3,000. While it was earlier priced at Rs 36,990, after the price drop it could be picked up at Rs 33,990. And in case you still haven’t bought the device but intend to, we have some good news for you.

Samsung has again slashed the price of its Galaxy A9 (2018) handset, which is the first smartphone in the world to come with a quad-rear camera setup. Apart from a primary sensor, the smartphone also has a wide-angle sensor, a telephoto sensor and a depth sensor.

The revised price of the Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) is now listed as Rs 30,990 on the company’s official website. However, Samsung has done this quietly without making any noise about the new development. But then, it is being speculated as a permanent price cut on the Samsung Galaxy A9 (2019).

Considering that Samsung is consistently reducing the price of its Galaxy A9 (2018) device, could very well mean that the company is planning to soon launch the Galaxy A9 Pro (2019) that is speculated to come with an Infinity-O Display, just like the one we saw on Galaxy A8s.

The device was launched in South Korea last month and it is priced at KRW 599,500 (approximately Rs 37,800), which is similar to the pricing of Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018).

To recall, Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) features a 6.3-inch full-HD+ Infinity Display that comes with a Super AMOLED panel and comes with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. Powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, the smartphone is available in 6GB and 8GB RAM options.

For imaging duties, Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) 24MP primary sensor with an f/1.7 aperture, a 10MP telephoto sensor with an f/2.4 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor with an f/2.4 aperture, and a 5MP depth sensor with an f/2.2 aperture. The primary camera of the smartphone uses a pixel binning technique that combines four pixels into one.

For selfies and video calls, there is a 24MP front-facing snapper that is housed on the front panel of the smartphone.

Apple working on Touch ID that spans across the entire iPhone display

Though Touch ID has been replaced by the advanced Face ID, it still has some advantages. In situations where it isn’t prudent to use Face ID or be in situations where you need to unlock the phone while it is still in the user’s pocket. Apple has come up with a way to do Touch ID-style fingerprint reading. Based on a recently-granted patent, Apple has come up with a new way to do Touch ID-style fingerprint reading. The appearance of the iPhone would not be sacrificed, though.

The patent is titled as “Acoustic pulse coding for imaging of input devices”. This describes how sound could be applied to a surface and detect how another object comes in contact with it. Once the fingerprint is pressed on to the display, it can be read. The patent says, that an array of acoustic transducers are placed beneath the surface, and can transmit coded impulse signal in response to a touch input. An image resolver can receive the reflection data and generate an image based on the input. This happens by monitoring the reflections from multiple coded signals.

Sound impulses are sent out and come into contact with the ridges of the user’s fingerprint. These ridges interrupt the impulse’s transmitted and are reflected. These reflections are then interpreted into a fingerprint image that can be analysed. This technique is very beneficial compared to the existing fingerprint reading technology, including a reduced thickness of components required as the transducers can be placed on the edge and away from other components. Also, there is almost no need for electrodes to be placed on the display.

This not only reduces the complexity of display production, but also give the scope for speed boost for performing the authentication check in the first place. This happens because Apple suggests that it requires less processing power. Based on sound transmittance, this can allow fingerprint reading to occur on any given part of the display and not just a specific point.

A lawsuit filed against Apple for disabling their own charger through an iOS update

0

Apple Inc doesn’t seem to get out of the news headlines anytime soon, at times for all the wrong reasons. With so many products, services and tech scheduled to launch in coming months of 2019 it will continue stay in headlines. But the news may not all be positive this time, as a new class action lawsuit against Apple Inc claims that the company deliberately disabled the old iPhone chargers through an iOS update. The company did this in order to force the users to buy new iPhones. And this seems like a very wrong marketing strategy.

Earlier in 2018, Tim Cook, CEO of Apple Inc. had announced that they were reducing the old iPhone’s performances through updates so that the phone could stay in top condition and function properly, which now when we see this lawsuit is the exact opposite of what he said. The truth was that he wanted to increase the declined iPhone sales and get a good hold on the smartphone market. With his statement he and the company got a lot of hate and negative comments from the users as they felt cheated by the company. And this time again it was charged by disabling the iPhone charger, so that people would buy more Apple products.

‘This accessory may not be supported’, this is the message an iPhone user receives if he becomes a part of this alleged attempt by Apple to make the user buy a new iPhone or a new Apple charger. In both the cases the user loses and the company wins.

According to a MacRumors report, Monica Emerson who is a California resident was the one who filed a complaint against Apple via a law firm this week. In the lawsuit, Apple is accused of releasing a new iOS update in 2016 which were “specifically designed and programmed to reject old iPhone chargers from properly charging the iPhones.”

And it is true, Apple did push out an iOS update named version 10.1.1 in November of 2016. And even at that time reports had come out that iPhones are not supporting third-party accessories after the update. The lawsuit has also asked Apple to stop this practice while also notifying all of the affected iPhone users about the deceptive practice and “engage in corrective advertising” in order to rectify its malpractice.

This is not the first time Apple is in headlines for all the bad reasons. The malpractice of the company against the users might just turn against them and they may lose their customers and user base on a whole. And the company which is known for its innovation and quality of products may just become the exact opposite.

JioPhone 3: Ten things you should know about the upcoming smartphone

Reliance Jio is currently said to be working on the JioPhone 3, which is being touted as ‘India ka smartphone‘. Reports have surfaced online which claim that the after launching its JioPhone and JioPhone 2 feature phones in 2017 and 2018 respectively, Reliance Jio is set to foray into the smartphone industry this year.

A report has surfaced in Beetel Bite which throws light on the upcoming device by Reliance Jio. Here are nine ten takeaways that you should know about:

Will come with a full touch screen display

jio phone

According to the report in Beetel Bite that quotes an anonymous Reliance Jio executive, JioPhone 3 will come with a 5-inch full touchscreen display. Considering that the other two devices launched by the company so far – JioPhone and JioPhone 2 – are feature phones and came with a keypad, this move by Reliance Jio is a big jump and it is most definitely a very welcome change.

JioPhone 3: RAM and Storage

jiophone

The report also said that the executive suggested that JioPhone 3 will come with 2GB of RAM that will be coupled with 64GB of onboard storage. Furthermore, JioPhone 3 will also have support for a microSD card, however, as of now, there is no word on the capacity.

JioPhone 3: Cameras

jio 7

For imaging duties, JioPhone 3 will reportedly come with a 5MP primary camera on its back panel. Customers will also get a 2MP front-facing snapper with which they will be able to click selfies and make video calls.

JioPhone 3: Operating system

jio phone 2

While as of now, there is no confirmed news about the operating system that will be used on the device, the report has suggested that JioPhone 3 will either run a full-fledged version of KaiOS or Android Go.

Reliance Jio may have partnered with this company for JioPhone 3

jio 2

A prior report in Economic Times, Reliance Jio was in talks with the US-based manufacturer Flex to produce the JioPhone 3 smartphones in India. The same report also stated that the company has had discussions about placing a large order of the upcoming device.

Flex has a manufacturing plant in India

jio 4

What plays as a key factor behind the deal between Reliance Jio and Flex is the fact that the US-based company already has a factory in India. The plant is located in Chennai and is said to produce around 4-5 million devices every month.

JioPhone 3 price (expected)

jio 5

Coming back to the report in Beetel Bite, the Reliance Jio executive also told the technology website that the upcoming JioPhone 3 will be priced at Rs 4,500 in India. When compared to JioPhone and JioPhone 2, this is quite a jump in pricing. However, considering it is a smartphone, it is still an entry-level price.

JioPhone 3’s expected launch offers

jio 3

Although we are months away from the launch of JioPhone 3, analysts have guessed that the company may offer screen insurance as a part of the launch offers with the device. The cost of screen repair is one among the key factors why feature phone users hesitate to buy smartphones, so we wouldn’t be wrong to expect this.

When can I pre-book?

jio 8

The report says that interested customers will be able to buy the JioPhone 3 starting July 2019. The upcoming JioPhone 3 smartphone will be available on Jio Stores, Reliance Digital stores, and Jio’s official website.

By when will I get the device?

We should mention that while pre-booking of JioPhone 3 will begin in July 2019, the device will only be delivered to customers by August, so they would have to wait for a for a few weeks before they get their hands on their smartphone.

Chrome browser now has Password Checkup extension: Google’s extra layer of digital security

To tackle the ever-increasing problem of data hack, data breach, password theft and data leak Google introduced a new Chrome extension. Called the Password Checkup, it will help users against data breaches in their account. The extension also suggests changing the password if the user’s account details have been compromised. The tech giant also revealed a measure that it has implemented to make sure the apps and websites, where a user has used their Google account to sign in, is not compromised in case of a Google account hijacking.

In a blog post on Tuesday, Google revealed that the new Password Checkup Chrome extension is now live on the Chrome Web Store and it can be downloaded by anyone who uses Chrome or has a Google account. This new extension alerts users when they enter a compromised username or password on a website. It also alerts the user when the extension finds out that the login information entered has been conceded and it suggests a password change to protect the users account so that no data is hijacked or leaked.

The extension will be useful for the new users who can’t regularly keep track of their account or news about data breach and hacks, and it will also be helpful for basically everyone who uses a Google account on more than one place. Google also added that it has built the Password Checkup extension with user’s privacy concerns of sharing the account details with anyone, including Google itself. It also notes that no one, including Google will know about the users account information.

But, when and if the user’s Google account is compromised, Google will notify the apps and websites where the user had used their Google account about the breach so that they can secure their account.

“We built Password Checkup so that no one, including Google, can learn your account details. To do this, we developed privacy-protecting techniques with the help of cryptography researchers at both Google and Stanford University,” Google’s blog post read.

The steps by which the users can install the Password Checkup extension:

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Go on the Chrome Web Store and search for ‘Password Checkup’.
  3. Once opened, click ‘Add to Chrome’.
  4. Confirm that you want to add the extension to your Chrome.
  5. It will then install the extension.
  6. Once installed, a screen shield icon will appear on the top right of Chrome.

Google also said that the Cross-Account Protection measure will make sure the apps and websites where the users are using their Google account credentials to sign in is not compromised in case an attacker gets hold of the user’s profile. It is the first time the company is improving the security of Google sign-in for third-party platforms.

“We created Cross Account Protection by working closely with other major technology companies, like Adobe, and the standards community at the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and OpenID Foundation to make this easy for all apps to implement,” said Google.

Google Maps now shows Electric Vehicle charging ports in India

0

While there aren’t too many electric vehicles in India right now, Google seems to be thinking in advance as it has rolled out an update that will surely be beneficial for anyone who owns an electric vehicle. The popular navigation app has started adding information about electric vehicle charging stations.

To recall, the update was first reported about in October 2018, however, back then it was only available in most western countries. Now, this feature has started rolling out in India too, however, it is only available for Android. So going forward, those who own electric cars and vehicles will be able to look for the nearest compatible charging stations on Google Maps.

Considering that electric vehicles are increasingly gaining popularity in a number of countries across the globe, it’s just a matter of time before they pick up momentum in India too. So, it makes perfect sense for Google to add this information in its Maps app because running out of charge is not a situation electric vehicle users want to find themselves in.

With this feature coming to Google Maps, if electric vehicle owners find themselves in a situation where they are running low on charge, they can turn to the app for help. Although Google Maps has shown some popular EV stations for a couple of years now, the update has just been rolled out in India.

Prior reports suggest that to look for an EV station, you only have to type keywords like ‘EV charging’ and ‘EV charging stations’. The app will then start showing stations that are closest to your location along with information like the type of ports it has, the charging speeds, and more so that you can pick the one that is compatible with your vehicle.

So, businesses that have charging stations on their property will be able to add this information on Google Maps. Furthermore, drivers will be able to add more information via ratings, reviews, photos, and questions/answers.

However, as of now, we don’t know if Google Maps will also be able to show whether any ports are unoccupied. So, the electric vehicle would have to head to the station to find that out. But then, maybe with a future update, Google Maps will be able to share this information too. For other interesting Google Maps features, you can read our article here.

Samsung Galaxy A series might launch in India in the coming month

0

The next lineup of Samsung Galaxy series, the Galaxy A10, Galaxy A20, Galaxy A30 and Galaxy A50 smartphones have been churning in the rumour mill for some time now. And according to a report the A10, A20, A30 and A50 might launch in the coming months in India. Out of all the phones of the A series rumoured to be launched, the Galaxy A50 is expected to debut separately globally first around or before June of 2019. Then after that it might launch in India.

With the successful launch of the M series in Indian markets and the Galaxy S10 launch event is also scheduled in the Samsung Unpacked this February. It seems like Samsung will be making headlines for some time. Yesterday on 5th February when Samsung released their mid-ranged M-series phones, the Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20, which were targeted towards the younger audience. It was an online only sale, a first move for the South Korean tech giant, and the phones went out of stock minutes after their launch.

Later this month, on 20th February, the company will be unveiling their flagships internationally, the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+ and the Galaxy S10 Lite. Alongside the release of S10, Samsung may also announce the conceptual foldable phone, the Galaxy Flex which was teased in a video last week. The Galaxy S10 series might come to the Indian market later in 2019.

It is estimated that the A series will be a mid-ranged budget friendly smartphone and will give fierce competition to the Chinese phone companies who currently hold dominance over this market. The Galaxy A10 is expected to have a starting price tag of Rs 8,490. The A series phones will come with Super AMOLED display, which was absent in the M series as they had LCD displays. The three phones of the A series, the A10, A20 and the A30 might share some similarities with the M10 and the M20. But they might come with lesser batteries than the M series phones, which has 3,400mAh and 5,000mAh batteries respectively.

Not much has been known about the specs these phones will have but it is speculated that Galaxy A10, A20 and A30 will be powered by Exynos 7885 SoC and will have Android 9.0 Pie for its OS. Also, the Galaxy A10 (SM-A105F), Galaxy A20 (SM-A205F), Galaxy A30 (SM-A305F), Galaxy A40 (SM-A405F) and A50 (SM-A505F) phones recently appeared on Geekbench. It was also revealed that the A10 will have 2GB RAM, the A20 will have 3GB of RAM, the A30 will have 4GB of RAM and the A40 will also have 4GB of RAM.

According to Geekbench listing the A50 will run on Exynos 9610 SoC with 6GB RAM and will come with Android 9.0 Pie out of the box. It might also come with 64GB storage and 128GB storage options with colour choices of black, white, blue and red, The A50 might have triple camera setup with in-display fingerprint scanner, the selfie camera and the main camera might come with a 24MP sensor. It is also possible that the A50 could house a 4,000mAh battery.

With all the phones Samsung is launching this year the users will get a wide range of smartphones to choose from according to their needs. And also, the smartphone market will heat up this year with many phone companies coming with their own recipe and excellent tech in their smartphones.

Soon you will be able to delete sent messages in Facebook Messenger

There are people who wish to remove messages once they are on social media or messenger. Sometimes we might send messages to wrong people, or even worse, send unfriendly messages and change our mind about it the next moment. However, the blunder is done and just like in real life, you cannot take back what you said. Well, now you don’t need to worry anymore because now you can actually delete messages if you have sent something inappropriate or irrelevant.

Facebook was against this idea sometime ago. However, a year ago, Mark Zuckerberg was caught doing it. There was a report which came sometime ago telling users that this service was caught scraping call logs and message data. As a matter of consequence, Facebook came under a lot of pressure as users started accusing it for the misuse of its power. Facebook then said that this was a feature that it was planning to incorporate soon in the messaging app. Now, Facebook released a statement regarding this.

We can at least say for now, that Facebook will work towards this feature. It is very similar to WhatsApp because just like this messaging app, Facebook Messenger will also have the option to delete the message for one person or for all the participants of the conversation. Facebook has taken quite a long time to bring this feature, considering that WhatsApp and Instagram have rolled this out a long time ago. One important thing to note is that the message can be deleted within 10 minutes of sending it.

In other apps this limitation can be bypassed. WhatsApp might have already prepared for these bugs, however, it is uncertain whether other bugs will attack the Facebook sub-company or not. It cannot be ascertained if Facebook will actually release the message deleting feature until it gives an official announcement about the same. However, considering the current state of affairs, this feature is most likely to be true.

This is how you will click selfies in future

One of the biggest differentiators of the Samsung Galaxy Note series is its S Pen. And let’s admit it, the South Korean technology giant has made every S Pen better than the last one we saw. The latest S Pen, which is coupled with Samsung Galaxy Note 9, comes with Bluetooth connectivity and can run for minutes with just a minute of charging.

And now, we have some really exciting news about an upcoming S Pen that points towards Samsung planning to go notch-less. However, we can’t really say if we’ll get to see this S Pen with Samsung Galaxy Note 10. It has been reported that USPTO has today granted a patent that shows the S Pen being used as a camera with an optical zoom. This could very well mean that Samsung plans to remove the notch from the display of its Galaxy Note series smartphone and use the S Pen to house the camera.

So, if you are one of those people who don’t find the idea of a punch-hole on a display too appealing, you can rejoice. In the patent, Samsung has mentioned that handsets usually utilize digital zoom in order to reduce the thickness of the smartphone, however, optical zoom in comparison results in better quality of the final image.

The patent further throws light on describing a method with which one can embed an optical sensor into the S Pen. There would be at one lens that users will be able to control via an external button.

We know that to some people, the idea of an accessory of the smartphone housing the selfie camera may seem a little over the top, but with more and more smartphones becoming bezel-less and notch-less, companies are expected to come up with new and innovative ways to place the selfie camera.

If we speak about other flagships from Samsung – Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy S10E – they will come with a hole-punch display that we first saw on Galaxy A8s to house the selfie camera in the screen itself. By placing the selfie camera in the S Pen, which remains with Galaxy Note smartphones all the time, Samsung will be going a step ahead by completely removing the camera from the front panel.

We should also mention that the patent that has surfaced online was filed a year back in February 2017. While it does seem to provide a solution that will help Samsung do away with the notch and resort to bezels that will be as thin as possible, we can’t say if it will be seen on the Galaxy Note 10 mobile that is expected to launch this year.

Vivo V15 Pro live image leaked, shows gradient back panel with triple rear cameras

Chinese smartphone brand Vivo rolled out the invite for its next handset launch in India a few days back. According to the invite, the smartphone will come with a pop-up selfie camera like the one we saw on Vivo NEX last year, and it will be launched on February 20. Ever since the invite was released by the company, reports and rumours about the upcoming Vivo V15 and V15 Pro smartphones started surfacing online.

The latest among these reports has surfaced on 91mobiles and it shows the live image of the upcoming Vivo V15 Pro handset. The report also claims that the image that is in-line with renders that were shared by the same technology website a few days back.

In the image, the back panel of the Vivo V15 Pro smartphone can be seen with a gradient red and black finish that is coupled with a checkered design on the bottom half of the device. The report says that Vivo may opt for a rather fancy name for this particular design. Apart from red and black, the smartphone is also expected to be available in gradient blue colour.

The back panel in the image seems to be made up of glass, however, we cannot rule out the possibility of the material being polycarbonate with a glossy finish. The back panel of the upcoming Vivo V15 Pro house the vertically-stacked triple rear cameras along with LED flash. We should mention that ‘AI Triple Camera’ is written on top of the triple rear camera module. Also, the back panel doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor on it, so that further points towards the possibility of the smartphone coming with an in-display fingerprint scanner.

India ranks first in the Digital Maturity global rankings according to Dell

0

Dell Technologies Digital Transformation released an Index today according to which India is the most digitally mature country in the world by gaining the highest digital maturity score. Dell Technologies collaborated with Intel and Vanson Bourne surveyed 4,600 business leaders (director to C-suite) from mid to large-sized companies across the globe to score their organizations’ transformation efforts.

The study revealed that emerging markets are the most digitally mature with the top three countries India, Brazil and Thailand in the global ranking. All three of the countries belong to the developing nations. In contrast, developed markets and the developed nations slipped behind with Japan, Denmark and France receiving the lowest digital maturity scores.

In the two-year comparison built on the DT Index II (DT Index I launched in 2016) highlights India’s steady progress. Digital Leader’s and Digital Adopter’s percentage has increased in India, compared to globally there’s been no progress at the top and almost four in 10 (39%) businesses are still spread across the two least digitally mature groups on the benchmark (Digital Laggards and Digital Followers).

But still businesses in India have a lot of work to do. The Indian leaders are more aware of the need to prioritize digital transformation throughout their organization. 91 out of 100 percent business leaders in India believe that digital transformation should be more widespread, compared to 78% globally. Also, 48% of the leaders believe they’ll struggle to meet the changing customer demands within five years, compared to 51% globally.

Michael Dell, chairman and CEO of Dell Technologies says, “In the near future, every organization will need to be a digital organization, but our research indicates that the majority still have a long way to go. Organizations need to modernize their technology to participate in the unprecedented opportunity of digital transformation. The time to act is now.”

According to the Index, India has grown tremendously in these two years (2016-2018) in the digital maturity. Among the benchmark groups were Digital Leaders, Digital Adopters, Digital Evaluators, Digital Followers and Digital Laggards. In Digital Leaders group the global percent in 2016 was 5% and today it still is the same, but India was 8.3% in 2016 and today has grown to 12%.

In Digital Adopters group, global percent in 2016 was 14% and today its 23%, whereas India in 2016 was 29% and has grown to 34% today. Similarly, in Digital Evaluators group, global percent in 2016 was 34% and today its 33%, but in 2016 India was at 37.3%, which has increased to 40% today.

In the Digital Followers group we see that in 2016 the global percent was 32%, which reduced to 30% in two years whereas, in 2016 India was at 20.7% which reduced to 14% today. And lastly, in Digital Laggards group, the global percent in 2016 was 15% and today its 9% and India’s percentage in 2016 was 4.7% which reduced to 2% today.

The most digital mature countries according to the ranking are: India, Brazil, Thailand, Mexico and Colombia. And the least digitally mature countries are: Japan, Denmark, France, Belgium and Singapore in that order.

But the achievements of India were not easy. And there were some barriers to digital transformation success in India. Sony pumps up the capacity of PlayStation Plus Cloud from 10GB to 100GB

If you have upgraded your gaming console from PS4 to PS4 Pro, you would have to shift all the data from our old device to the new one. You can do this by using an Ethernet cable to connect both the consoles to your router. However, before doing this, you must make sure that both your consoles have the latest firmware installed on them. After this, log in to your PS4 Pro using your PSN and you would then see a prompt asking you what all data you would want to transfer.
