Back in 2020, in my newfound free time, I like bestowing some bit of it playing games on my PC while I take few short breaks from my regular work hours and this isn’t just out of boredom but an intrinsic desire to be engaged. With distance learning becoming a new normal as the world is facing unprecedented times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, educators from across the global are rapidly modifying their lessons for use in digital classrooms. During the meeting, a blogpost by Microsoft revealed that the focus would be on questions like: What practices and solutions are working best for you? How are you making it all happen? What keeps your students engaged? How do you provide a socially and emotionally supportive environment for everyone involved? According to Microsoft, “We have five discussion questions lined up this month, allowing 14 minutes of discussion time each:
  1. How are you making the transition to remote learning? Share stories.
  2. How do you ensure that all your students are engaged?
  3. How do you care for the well-being of your students, colleagues and community?
  4. What are your best tips and resources to support remote learning?
  5. What lessons can be learned from teaching and learning under the present circumstances?”
Besides this, Microsoft has stated that if an educator is conducting a class at the time of the event, busy doing other things, or asleep, they can participate any time after the event. They can simply look at the questions and share their respective respond as per time and date that’s suitable for them. Moreover, educators can also schedule their tweets prior to the meet. They simply need to ensure that they include the entire question in their tweet and the hashtag #MSFTEduChat, so that everyone knows how their responses align to the event questions and conversations. Microsoft has further revealed that “#MSFTEduChat TweetMeets are global and multilingual conversations on Twitter, facilitated by Microsoft Education. Our events take place every third Tuesday of the month. Every month we choose a new topic that is relevant for educators.” Meanwhile, Microsoft’s Minecraft: Education Edition is now available through June 2020 for all educators and learners who have a valid Office 365 Education account. COVID-19: Samsung Galaxy Watch ‘Hand Wash’ app prompts users to clean their hands

0
Ever since the rise of COVID-19 pandemic, we all have watched those several videos where people could be seen washing their hands while humming the ‘Happy Birthday’ song twice to make sure that the hands are washed at least for 20 seconds as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). Now, Samsung has built a ‘Hand Wash’ app for Galaxy Watch that prompts users to clean their hands, a key preventive attribute to stay safe. In order to create this ‘Hand Wash’ app for the Galaxy Watch, Samsung Research Institute-Bangalore’s UX and wearable teams worked remotely round-the-clock over the last two weeks in order to come up with a solution that helps the users keep healthy and safe. “The ‘Hand Wash’ app on Galaxy Watch helps users maintain hand hygiene by periodically reminding them about it and ensuring each wash is thorough for the duration of 20 seconds in line with WHO recommended best practices,” as revealed by official Samsung blog post. The ‘Hand Wash’ app for Samsung Galaxy Watch, which comes with pre-set reminders which users can customize further based on their needs and schedule, tracks the time and provides users with haptic feedback after 25 seconds of wash cycle. According to the tech giant, “Five seconds are for turning on the tap and applying soap, while 20 seconds are for actual hand wash.” Moreover, the Samsung Galaxy Watch ‘Hand Wash’ app also notifies users if they miss any of scheduled pit stops to the wash basin! Besides this, the ‘Hand Wash’ app also showcases an elegant watch face that allows users to intuitively track their daily wash routine as it reveals the elapsed time since last wash to give users a sense of alertness about their hygiene in real time. The ‘Hand Wash’ app can be downloaded by Samsung Galaxy Watch users through the Galaxy Store. Meanwhile, Samsung India teams have engaged with various governments, local authorities, and healthcare professionals to prepare a broad and meaningful strategy in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The tech giant has announced measures to support local administration and community in Noida, by equipping hospitals with medical equipment required in the preventive drive against the pandemic. In the continuous endeavour to support the fight against Covid-19, Samsung also pledged a contribution of Rs 20 crore to the Union and State governments in India. While Samsung will be donating Rs 15 crore to the PM Cares Fund, it will be giving out Rs 5 crore to Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu to support India’s fight against the COVID-19 outbreak. Everyday Gmail is blocking more than 100 million phishing emails related to COVID-19

0
The software tech giant Google on Friday revealed that in the past one week it has blocked more than 18 million malware as well as phishing emails all related to COVID-19. According to the company, these phishing attacks generally try to trick the users while exposing their personal data.  The company in its blog post said that phishing is one of the most effective methods that attackers use to compromise accounts and gain access to company data and resources. The bad actors are creating new attacks and scams every day that attempt to take advantage of the fear and uncertainty surrounding the pandemic.  Gmail every day blocks more than 100 million phishing emails. But in the last week, it identified 18 million daily malware and phishing emails related to COVID-19. In addition to this more than 240 million COVID-related daily spam messages.  The software giant said these phishing attacks and scams make use of both fear and financial incentives to create urgency to try to prompt users to respond. The company also provided examples to prove their point. These emails do an impression of authoritative government organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) seeking fraudulent donations or distributing malware such as downloadable files that can install backdoors. Also, it presented examples showing increased phishing attempts of employees operating in a work-from-home setting, imitating government institutions to phish small businesses. Addressing the security and privacy issue the company has put proactive monitoring in place for COVID-19-related malware and phishing across our systems and workflows.  “As soon as we identify a threat, we add it to the Safe Browsing API, which protects users in Chrome, Gmail, and all other integrated products. Safe Browsing helps protect over four billion devices every day by showing warnings to users when they attempt to navigate to dangerous sites or download dangerous files. In G Suite, advanced phishing and malware controls are turned on by default, ensuring that all G Suite users automatically have these proactive protections in place,” the company said. Soon WhatsApp will allow more than 4 participants in a group call to take on other video calling apps

The popular social media app Whatsapp comes with a calling and video calling feature for free. At the moment both the features only allow one person to join a chat session so that you can have face to face conversation when you are stuck in a city far from your family and friends for free. It makes use of the phone’s internet connection so you don’t have to worry about expensive calling charges. But now the situation is different as most of the countries in the world have implemented lockdown or have asked its citizens to stay at home in view of the coronavirus pandemic. Due to health concerns the company has also asked its employees to take work from home instead of coming to the office. So in this condition, Whatsapp is losing its popularity as many apps have emerged as saviours for the public in the time of difficulty offering group video calling feature whereas at the moment WhatsApp only offers group chatting feature. Now it seems the company has taken this seriously and is working on its group video calling feature. Soon the Facebook owned chatting app will be rolling out a group video calling feature on its platform which will allow more than four users who can join a video chat. A report has emerged on the web to prove that the developers seem to be working on the much-needed feature when everyone is practising social distancing to contain the spread of the COVID-19.  According to a recent report by WABetainfo currently, the group calling feature is under development which has been identified in the WhatsApp v2.20.128 beta and WhatsApp v2.20.129 for the Android platform. The report says the new Group Call Limit is under development in order to make it bugs free. The company is planning to extend the limit of participants in a group call in the next updates. At the moment, some users are experiencing issues to make group calls using this update in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.20.128. It is noticed that this might happen because people have not updated to the latest version of the app. According to the report, “participants must use the latest WhatsApp version to be able to participate in a group call having the new limit. Actually, nobody knows what will be the new limit, but surely more than 5 participants in a group call. There is any release date available, but if WhatsApp wants to force people to update in order to call more than 4 people (including you), it means the feature might be rolled out soon.” For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on TwitterFacebook and Instagram. For newest tech & gadget videos subscribe to our YouTube Channel. Samsung Galaxy M31 review: The big-battery wonder

Samsung Galaxy M31 has a massive 6,000mAh battery and it sports a 64MP primary sensor. Getting these two in the budget segment seems like a good deal already. But how good is it really? We spent a few days with Samsung Galaxy M31 and here’s our review of the smartphone:

Samsung Galaxy M31 design and display

When you look at the Samsung Galaxy M31, you would certainly be reminded of the Galaxy M30s smartphone. Both the handsets do have a lot in common in terms of the design. To begin with, both Samsung Galaxy M31 and Galaxy M30s sport 6.4-inch displays and come with waterdrop-shaped notches on the top of their screens. Both also have a plastic built, but then, that’s common in all smartphones in Samsung’s M series. The bezels that outline the Infinity-U display of the smartphone is not exactly very thin and the chin at the bottom is thicker than the other three. The right edge of the smartphone has the power and volume rocker keys sandwiched on it while the left one has the SIM tray. The top edge has the secondary microphone while the bottom has the 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port, speaker grille and microphone on it. Samsung Galaxy M31 5 Flip over and you will see the back panel of Samsung Galaxy M31. The rear panel has the fingerprint scanner in the centre, a quad-camera setup that also houses the LED flash and the Samsung branding. It is worth mentioning that the smartphone has slightly curved sides and that actually helps with the grip and one-handed usage of the device. Samsung Galaxy M31 is available in two colour options — Space Black and Ocean Blue — and the handset that we got for review was dressed in Black. To sum it up, we would say that while the look and feel of Samsung Galaxy M31 may be similar to that of other smartphones in the company’s Galaxy M series, but then, the handset is elegant-looking. Coming to the 6.4-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display of the smartphone, it was one among the pros of the device. The colours it projected were accurate and they stayed consistent at different viewing angles. The images were sharp and clear and the experience of watching videos was also a smooth one. The smartphone also scored well in terms of sunlight readability. It is worth adding that Samsung has added Corning’s Gorilla Glass on top of the handset’s display for protection.

Samsung Galaxy M31 performance and cameras

Before we begin speaking about the performance and cameras of Samsung Galaxy M31, we’ll take a minute to talk about the rest of its specifications. The smartphone is powered by Exynos 9611 octa-core processor clubbed with Mali-G72 GPU that takes care of graphics. The smartphone comes with 6GB of RAM and is available in two storage options — 64GB and 128GB that are priced at Rs 15,999 and Rs 16,999 respectively. Right now, Samsung is offering a discount of Rs 1,000, so you can actually buy the 64GB storage version for Rs 14,999 and the 128GB storage variant for Rs 15,999. Samsung Galaxy M31 1 Users also have the option of adding a microSD card of up to 512GB, to expand the memory further. Samsung Galaxy M31 runs Android 10 skinned with OneUI 2.0, which gets its own share of customizations and tweaks. For instance, you will find features like Dark Mode, Focus Mode, Parental Controls and Digital Wellbeing on the phone. The smartphone has a considerable amount of bloatware and it comes with several pre-installed apps like Netflix, Candy Crush Saga, Facebook, Helo, Likee, Solitaire Infinite, etc. There is also the My Galaxy app which belongs to Samsung’s own suite and sends an annoying number of notifications. While the design and the display were the pros of the smartphone, the same cannot be said about the performance of Samsung Galaxy M31. It was far from being flawless. A very weird problem we encountered with the device was that apps take unusually long to download. When we were setting up the device, it took multiple attempts on our part and hours to update Google‘s suite of apps. After that, installing any app on the device took way longer than it does on most other phones. To make sure that the problem wasn’t arising because of our Wi-Fi connection, we disconnected the smartphone from it and tried using 4G instead. However, that did not help too. Also, we tried downloading a number of apps on other devices connected with our Wi-Fi network at the same time and we encountered no problem with them. Having said that, we did not encounter any lag while launching or switching between apps on the device. Thanks to the 6GB RAM of the device, multitasking was not an issue too. We tried gaming on the smartphone too. We played some light games like Alto’s Odessey and then we moved on to some graphic-hungry ones like Asphalt 9: Legends. Needless to say, we didn’t encounter any problems while playing games like Alto’s Odessey. However, the experience wasn’t as smooth with Asphalt 9. Although the frames didn’t drop and the game ran perfectly, but the device started heating up just after 15 minutes of gameplay. This is definitely one of the issues that we encountered with the handset. Coming to the fingerprint scanner of the smartphone, it worked well at all times, even when our finger was slightly moist. The facial unlock was decent too. One of the key highlights of the smartphone is its massive 6,000mAh battery. While this does make the device a little heavy, it is extremely useful to have a battery as big as that. Even with heavy usage that involved hours on social media apps, watching videos on YouTube and Netflix, clicking pictures and listening to music, the battery of the smartphone lasted for almost two entire days. Samsung has also packed a 15W charger with the handset, so it won’t take too long for you to charge the smartphone. Now, let’s finally talk about the cameras of Samsung Galaxy M31. The device sports a quad-camera setup that comes with a 64MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, a 5MP depth sensor and a 5MP macro lens. For selfies, there is a 32MP front-facing snapper. The photos that we took using the primary camera of the smartphone turned out to be great. The colours were bright and vibrant and they had a good amount of details too. By default, the images from this camera lens will be saved in 16MP shots. However, you can change this to full resolution if you wish to. The images taken the 64MP primary camera remain consistent in various lighting conditions.

While switching to the wide-angle camera does include a lot more area in the image, the quality of the image does go down as compared to the primary camera. Zoomed-in shots lack details and at times, they didn’t match up in terms of quality too. The results were sort of inconsistent with lenses other than the primary sensor.

In dimly lit areas, all sensors apart from the 64MP one take long to focus. Some wide-angle and zoomed-in shots that were taken in dimly lit areas had noise closer to the edges too. The Night Mode helps with this, but not tremendously.

Coming to the selfies taken with the 32MP front-facing snapper, most of them turned out fine in well-lit conditions, but their quality did drop in areas that were dimly lit.

Verdict

At a starting price of Rs 15,999, there are a fair number of reasons to buy the Samsung Galaxy M31. These include its design, the vibrant display, the long-lasting battery and the primary camera. However, the cons include the heating issue and a few software glitches that we mentioned earlier. We are sure those will be taken care of in the next OS update. The performance of the other three lenses in the camera module was inconsistent, so that is something to be noted before making the purchase. At a price of Rs 15,999, Samsung Galaxy M31 will not disappoint, provided the cons we mentioned are not deal-breakers for you. Pros
  • Vibrant display
  • Lasting batter
  • Primary camera
Cons
  • Heats up during gaming
  • Software glitches

Apple AirPods Pro ear tips replacement now available on its online store

Apple has now introduced a choice of small, medium, and large silicone ear tips for your AirPods Pro earbuds in order to deliver best sound quality and superior noise cancellation. Each pair of the AirPods ear tips replacement comes with a price tag of $7.99 (approx. Rs 614). Your ear tips should make a good seal with your ear canal. When the fit is right, you experience better noise cancellation, and music has a rich bass sound. Mind you! The medium size ear tip comes already attached with Apple AirPods Pro earbuds. If you can’t get a good seal, try adjusting the AirPod or switch to a larger ear tip. If the ear tip feels too large in your ear or is uncomfortable, try a smaller ear tip, as revealed by the tech giant. However, before purchasing the AirPods Pro ear tips replacement via Apple Online Store, try the Ear Tip Fit Test to ensure that you’re getting the comfortable fit with a good seal. All you need to do is that with your AirPods Pro in your ears, go to Settings > Bluetooth on your iOS device. Now, tap the info button next to your AirPods in the list of devices. Select Ear Tip Fit Test. If you don’t see the Ear Tip Fit Test, make sure that you have iOS (or iPadOS) version 13.2 or later. Tap Continue, then tap the Play button. After following these steps, try adjusting your AirPods Pro and testing again if the test suggests adjusting or trying a different ear tip. Then try a different size. You might need different sizes for your left and right ears. Also, removing and attaching ear tips are not a hassle. In order to remove an ear tip, pull firmly with your fingers at the base of the ear tip, where the ear tip is attached to the AirPod. If you need to attach an ear tip, simply align the ear tip with the oval-shaped connector on the AirPod and push it onto the connector until you hear it click into place.
