Xiaomi Black Shark 2 to launch in India in the last week of May

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is all set to launch its Black Shark 2 smartphone in India this month. According to an industry insider, the company will be unveiling its gaming-centric smartphone in the country in the last week of May. However, he did not disclose a specific date of the launch of Xiaomi Black Shark 2.

We should mention that Black Shark 2 is the second iteration of the Xiaomi’s sub-brand Black Shark, which only makes gaming smartphones. Prior to this, the company has two smartphones under the sub-brand: Black Shark and Black Shark Helo. Both the handsets were launched in 2018, however, their rollout was limited to the Chinese and the European markets.

However, considering that India has always been a very important market for the brand, and it has a massive gaming audience, it was only a matter of time before the company launched a device from its Black Shark series in the country. Here’s a look at the expected pricing and specifications of the smartphone:

Xiaomi Black Shark 2 specifications

As we mentioned, Xiaomi Black Shark 2 has already been launched in China and Europe. So, we don’t really have to guess the specifications as its highly unlikely that they would change. Powered by the Snapdragon 855 SoC, Xiaomi Black Shark 2 comes in three RAM variations – 6GB, 8GB or 12GB. The handset is available in 128GB and 256GB storage variants. Black Shark 2 smartphone features a 6.39-inch AMOLED display that has a pixels resolution of 1080 x 2340. The company has also added that Black Shark 2 uses the world’s first ‘direct touch multilayer liquid cooling system’ that is claimed to keep the CPU 14-degrees cooler.

Black Shark 2 also has a dual-rear camera setup on its back panel that comprises of a 12MP primary camera with an f/1.7 aperture and a 12MP secondary camera with 2x optical zoom and an f/2.2 aperture. The smartphone also has a 20MP selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture on its front panel. The Black Shark 2 houses a 4,000mAh battery and has a fingerprint scanner embedded on its display. Since its a gaming smartphone, it comes with a higher refresh rate, a better CPU, better cooling, rugged built, accessories or sleek design.

Xiaomi Black Shark 2 price (expected)

In China, Xiaomi Black Shark 2’s base model with 6GB RAM/128GB storage is priced at CNY 3,200 (approximately Rs 32,647) while the 12GB RAM/256GB storage variant bears a price tag of CNY 4,200(approximately Rs 42,849). In India, the smartphone will directly be competing with the likes of the Asus ROG Phone.

Xbox One’s May 2019 Update shows if friends are playing on PC console

0

Software giant Microsoft has today started rolling out its latest May 2019 Update to the Xbox. The latest update adds some improvements to the friend list and messaging. If you have friends who have Xbox Live and play games across PC and Xbox One, now you can get to know from your dashboard friend list where exactly they are playing. Some new icons will show you that whether your friends are playing on Xbox One, PC or mobile.

We should mention that some of the games that can be played on Xbox are cross-platform. It is also worth noticing that Xbox Live users would no longer have to invite people into games that don’t let players play across PC and Xbox One.

In addition to this, Microsoft is also adding a feature for message requests. This feature will filter out messages that are not from our friends in a separate tab. We should add that this will particularly be useful is the user uses LFG services. For those unaware, LFG services require a lot more Xbox messages. The company has decided to wipe out all the existing group messages to enable this new feature. It would let users copy them from Xbox.com for a “limited time”, so you should hurry up if you want to save any. Individual messages from friends will not be affected by this move.

Another feature that will be added as a part of May 2019 update is an improved way of looking for games and apps. With the update, the games on Xbox One will be sorted better in My Games & Apps section. It will also have titles like The Witcher under ‘W’ section instead of the ‘T’.

Yesterday, Sony and Microsoft announced a partnership to use each other’s services and platforms in order to develop new and improved image sensors. The new partnership would enable Sony to use Microsoft’s cloud for streaming games and media.

However, we should mention that the partnership between the two companies is still in its early stages, some aspects of the deal still have to be determined. With the partnership, two of the biggest players in the gaming services would be seen coming together to bring their resources together and develop new tools for game developers.

It is worth noticing that Sony is the maker of PlayStation consoles and other games while Microsoft makes Xbox consoles and games. Speaking about the partnership, the CEO of Sony, Kenichiro Yoshida said, “For many years, Microsoft has been a key business partner for us, though of course the two companies have also been competing in some areas. I believe that our joint development of future cloud solutions will contribute greatly to the advancement of interactive content.”

Stanley Black & Decker launches STANLEY Earth to empower farmers in India

Stanley Black & Decker has launched STANLEY Earth in India this week. The company’s new brand will focus on “purpose-driven product technologies” that can be used for social good. The company has said that with the launch of STANLEY Earth, it eyes to leverage its core technical expertise and broad partnership network to come up with solutions that address various societal needs and sustainable development challenges regarding water, energy, and climate.

STANLEY Earth’s first product that will be launched in India is NADI, which is aligned with the solar agricultural revolution that is going on in the country. The company has said that it is an eco-friendly, efficient solar-powered brushless DC water pump that will facilitate irrigation for agricultural applications for farmers across the country. We should mention that NADI uses STANLEY’s brushless direct current (BLDC) motor technology to drive the pump along with solar panels that power the entire system.

Commenting on the launch of STANLEY Earth in India, Jim Loree, President and CEO, Stanley Black & Decker said, “The world around us is facing a growing number of increasingly critical societal issues today. As a company which makes products and services that help create and shape our world, we have an obligation to leverage our resources and expertise to create new solutions to address these very challenges. Our new brand STANLEY Earth is a reflection of our commitment to ‘Innovating with Purpose,’ a core pillar of our CSR Strategy and 22/22 Vision.”

“The launch of products like these will play a key role in helping our company create positive change and get us closer to achieving our goal of enhancing the lives of 500 million people. We want to be reckoned as a force for good in alignment with our purpose, for those who make the world,” Loree added.

Stanley Black & Decker also said in a press note that NADI offers a sustainable alternative to the 25 million inefficient diesel and alternating current (AC) pumps that are being used for agriculture. This draws up almost 20% of the electricity generated in the country and poses a huge environmental pollution challenge.

The smart pump has an intelligent controller that enables micro-irrigation. It incorporates an IOT-based agricultural platform complete with sensors that connect to the cloud and mobile networks, providing real-time data on the pump health along with key environmental metrics. This will enable farmers to efficiently monitor pump performance and conduct preventive maintenance as needed.

“Nearly two years ago, we set out on a mission to deliver a self-sustaining irrigation solution that can provide millions of farmers in India, a solution to one of their key challenges – reliable and consistent access to clean water,” said Ramana Gogula Vice President of Clean Technology Innovation at Stanley Black & Decker.

Compare: Asus Zenfone 6 and OnePlus 7 Pro and Samsung Galaxy A80

This week saw the launch of two new powerful flagship smartphones: Asus Zenfone 6 and OnePlus 7 Pro. Asus Zenfone 6 comes with a rotating camera like the one we saw on Samsung Galaxy A80, and it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, much like the OnePlus 7 Pro. We should mention that this the most powerful processor available right now. Here, we compare Asus Zenfone 6, OnePlus 7 Pro and Samsung Galaxy A80 so that you can decide which among the three is the best buy for you:

Display

Asus Zenfone 6: 6.4-inch full-HD+ IPS screen with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9

OnePlus 7 Pro: 6.67-inch curved Quad HD+ (1440×3120 pixels) Fluid AMOLED display

Samsung Galaxy A80: 6.7-inch Full HD+ display

The clear winner here is the flagship from OnePlus as its Fluid AMOLED display is a better quality screen than Full HD+ ones from the two companies. Although Samsung Galaxy A80 is marginally bigger in terms of screen size, we would go for OnePlus because its display is supposed to be one among its key features.

Processor

Asus Zenfone 6: Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC

OnePlus 7 Pro: Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC with 7nn Kyro chipset

Samsung Galaxy A80: Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G SoC

If performance is important to you, you can pick either the newly launched smartphone from Asus or the one from OnePlus. They both are powered by Snapdragon 855 SoC, which is the most powerful processor in the world.

Rear camera(s)

Asus Zenfone 6: 48MP primary sensor with an f/1.79 aperture + 13MP ultra-wide-angle sensor

OnePlus 7 Pro: 48MP primary Sony IMX586 sensor that has an f/1.6 aperture + 8MP telephoto sensor that has an f/2.4 aperture and 3X zoom + 16MP wide-angle sensor that has an f/2.2 aperture and a field of view of 117 degrees.

Samsung Galaxy A80: 48MP primary sensor + an 8MP ultra-wide sensor + a 3D depth sensor

OnePlus’ flagship smartphone offers a triple rear camera setup with a 48MP primary sensor, and telephoto and wide-angle sensors. The Galaxy A80 also offers a triple rear camera setup with a 48MP primary sensor but it has an ultra-wide sensor and a 3D depth sensor. We recommend you to pick either of the two depending on which sensor you want.

Selfie camera

Asus Zenfone 6: 48MP primary sensor with an f/1.79 aperture + 13MP ultra-wide-angle sensor

OnePlus 7 Pro: 16MP pop-up selfie camera

Samsung Galaxy A80: 48MP primary sensor + an 8MP ultra-wide sensor + a 3D depth sensor

This one is very clear. Pick the Samsung or the Asus if you want a good selfie camera. Who wouldn’t want a 48MP selfie camera?

RAM and storage

Asus Zenfone 6: 8GB of RAM + 256GB storage

OnePlus 7 Pro: 6GB/8GB/12GB RAM with 128GB/256GB storage

Samsung Galaxy A80: 8GB RAM and 128GB storage

If you want a massive RAM, then go for the OnePlus. It offers a 12GB RAM with a 256GB onboard storage. The other two offer 8GB RAM, which is also quite a lot, but wouldn’t give as smooth an experience as a 12GB RAM phone.

Support for microSD card

Asus Zenfone 6: Up to 2TB

OnePlus 7 Pro: No

Samsung Galaxy A80: No

Battery

Asus Zenfone 6: 5,000mAh battery that has support for Quick Charge 4.0

OnePlus 7 Pro: 4,000mAh battery with Warp Charge 30W fast charging technology

Samsung Galaxy A80: 3,700mAh battery with 25W Super-Fast Charging support

In terms of battery, the newly launched smartphone from Asus is the best option to go with as it leaves the other two behind in terms of battery capacity.

Operating system

Asus Zenfone 6: Android 9.0 Pie skinned with Zen UI 6

OnePlus 7 Pro: Android 9.0 Pie skinned with OxygenOS

Samsung Galaxy A80: Android 9.0 Pie is skinned with Samsung’s One UI

Fortnite brings the ‘Boogeyman’ John Wick to its platform with a new update

0

Fortnite is known to bring new and popular elements from pop-culture, entertainment and films to its platform. It has always been its way of keeping its platform fresh for the players. And now, after the release of John Wick Parabellum, Epic Games has brought Wick himself to Fortnite. This new character/ change has been brought to the platform through a new update.

The third part in the John Wick saga – John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum hit the theatres earlier this month and it continued on with the story of the last film. Fortnite with the new update v9.01 brings new limited time mode called the Wick’s Bounty where the players can choose to play as John Wick. The character in the game looks and feels similar to his movie counterpart. When playing in this mode, the players would need to kill the bad guys in order to collect the assassin’s bounty and rewards. But the players should take note that they will be hunted in this mode by other assassins as well to collect the bounty placed on Wick’s head. There is also an option to purchase the John Wick set from the in-game shop. The John Wick set includes the costume, sledge pickaxe, guns, lots of guns and various other items.

According to Epic Games, the makers of Fortnite, John Wick’s Bounty mode will go live once the update hits the game. In this mode, the players would start with limited gold coins which will increase when the players kill other players and collect the ‘bounty’. There is a target gold coin limit which the players and the squads have to reach. The player or the squad who reaches the target gold coins first wins the trophy.

But it should be taken into account that, the more assassin the players kill the more he will be visible on the map to other players. Other than that, the players would also be given three lives in a match. The top three players who have the highest number of gold coins will be visible to other players in the map at all times.

The players would also be given weekly challenges to complete and earn rewards – gold tokens, one shot glider, ‘Boogeyman Wrap’. Other than that, there is a new game called the John Wick Hex, a strategy-based neo-noir game which was announced earlier this month. The interested players can purchase the game from Epic Games Store for $7.19 (approximately Rs 500).

PUBG Mobile Season 7 Here is Everything You Want to Know

‘Trail Smoke’ feature

pubg mobile season 7 1

This is one of the most interesting features that has been added to PUBG Mobile game.

As the name suggests, with this feature you will be able to leave a trail of smoke when you jump from the plane.

The smoke will come out from the players’ feet and from the looks of it, it’s a cool new addition.

Royale Pass of Season 7

PUBG Mobile season 7 2

The Royal Pass of Season 7 is now available. We all know that Royale Passes of PUBG Mobile are really important as they help us unlock a number of features that we don’t have access to otherwise.

With Royale Pass Season 7, players will get exclusive outfits, emotes, additional rewards and the all-new EZ Mission License, which offers exclusive discounts and the chance to open crates immediately.

It will also add a new ranking system to the PUBG Mobile game.

Changes in Survival Mode

PUBG Mobile season 7 3

With every new update, PUBG Mobile has started getting a new mode or some tweaks in the existing ones. This time, there isn’t one, but two.

If you open the Survival mode in your game, you will see plenty of changes that have been made to it and the most prominent ones are Curse of Dawn and Twilight Escape settings.

However, we should point out that the Survival mode can only be played by those who reached Level 5 or higher.

Uzi Skin

PUBG Mobile season 7 4

Another addition important to PUBG Mobile Season 7 is the Uzi Skin or the ‘King of Monsters – UZI’. Players can upgrade it just like they update the M4 and M16.

The company has also said, “Players can now customize their avatars with three exclusive new parachutes, clothing, airplane skins and more.”

New weapon: Skorpion

pubg- mobile

A new gun has also been added to PUBG Mobile – Skorpion.

While we would have to play with it first and only then we’ll be able to tell you how powerful it is, it has been reported that the Skorpion can go for 40 rounds with extended mag and has two firing modes: single and auto.

You can get to know about the rest of the PUBG guns here.

Companion feature is currently not available

PUBG Mobile 5

While we saw the Companion feature in the beta version of PUBG Mobile season 7, surprisingly, it is not available in the stable update.

There is also no word from PUBG about when we’ll get to see the Companion feature again, or if we’ll get to see it at all.

New Middle East server

PUBG Mobile 10

A change has also been added in the server of the game. Going forward, there will also be a ‘Middle East’ server available for players who access the game from that region.

You will be able to find it with all the other servers over maps. The server is supposed to offer s reduced lag and the company has promised to add other features soon.

Beard added

PUBG Mobile 2

We should also mention that you can tweak your avatar even more than you could earlier with the new season.

Now, you can add a beard to avatar if you like the idea of having it, but, you would need to Royale Pass for it.

We think it is a great addition for those who like to change their avatars every now and then.

Gameplay Improvements

PUBG Mobile 9

PUBG has announced that a number of in-game adjustments and updates have been made for players, including subscription adjustments, a new BP category tab for the shop, tuned audio and more.

Sony and Microsoft enter into a strategic partnership to make new technologies

The gaming industry is all set to see a huge change as two of the biggest games and consoles makers have entered into a strategic partnership. This week, Sony and Microsoft announced that they were partnering up to use each other’s services and platforms to develop new image sensors. As a part of this partnership, Sony would use Microsoft’s cloud for streaming games and media.

The partnership is still in its early stages, and many aspects of it have not been determined as of now. But two of the biggest players in the gaming and interactive entertainment services would team up and bring their resources together to develop and make new development tools for game developers.

Sony is the maker of PlayStation consoles and other games while Microsoft is the owner of Xbox consoles, games and many other services. They both hold high regards and respect among the tech and gaming industry. In a statement, the CEO of Sony Kenichiro Yoshida said, “For many years, Microsoft has been a key business partner for us, though of course the two companies have also been competing in some areas. I believe that our joint development of future cloud solutions will contribute greatly to the advancement of interactive content.”

This deal would strengthen Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing business which was one of the reasons Microsoft became a trillion-dollar company. Teaming up of both the company would be helpful for business and their own technologies for both the companies.

On the other hand, Sony, a Japanese electronics maker has already been in talks about the leaks of its upcoming PlayStation 5. It has also been a major developer of camera chips for smartphones and digital cameras. Sony’s partnership with Microsoft will help it develop new image sensors. These sensors will use Microsoft’s artificial intelligence technology for business customers.

Both companies also said that they will explore how to use Microsoft’s AI tools and technologies in Sony’s consumer products. Their end goal is to provide highly intuitive and user-friendly AI experience.

The CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella said in a statement, “Sony has always been a leader in both entertainment and technology, and the collaboration we announced today builds on this history of innovation.

Microsoft’s strength has been in the field of PCs, software and electronics while Sony specializes in TVs, smartphones, cameras, consoles, games, speakers etc. In other words, they have a higher market capture. So it would be interesting to see what these two electronic companies do together.

Samsung Galaxy M20 goes on sale in India, receives a limited period discount of Rs 1,000

Samsung Galaxy M20, which was launched in January this year in India, will go on sale today via Amazon India as well as the company’s Online Store. If you have been planning to buy the smartphone, now is definitely a good time to do so because Samsung will be offering a limited period discount of Rs 1,000 on the Galaxy M20.

So, instead of paying Rs 10,900 for its base model, you can get it for Rs 9,990. The highlights of Samsung Galaxy M20 include a massive 5,000mAh battery, up to 4GB of RAM and a dual camera setup on the back panel. Here are more details about Samsung Galaxy M20 sale in India, price, and specifications:

Samsung Galaxy M20 price in India

Samsung Galaxy M20’s base variant comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, and its more high-end model has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. The base model now costs Rs 9,990 instead of Rs 10,990, and the 4GB RAM variant can now be picked up at Rs 11,990 instead of Rs 12,990. The handset is available in Charcoal Black and Ocean Blue colour variants and can be picked up from Amazon India and the Samsung Online Shop.

At the given price, Samsung Galaxy M20 competes with the likes of Redmi Note 7, that was also launched shortly after it in the country.

While Redmi Note 7 has been appreciated a lot for its specifications and price point, we think that buying a smartphone from Samsung is a better choice. This is because the handsets from Samsung are far more durable than the ones from Xiaomi.

Samsung Galaxy M20 specifications

Samsung Galaxy M20 runs Android 8.1 Oreo and features a 6.3-inch full HD+ display. The Galaxy M20 has an Infinity V display, which basically means that it has a V-shaped notch on top of its screen that houses the selfie camera.

The handset is powered by an octa-core Exynos 7904 processor and comes with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

On the camera front, the smartphone from Samsung comes with a dual rear camera setup with a 13MP sensor with f/1.9 aperture and a 5MP ultra-wide sensor.

For selfies and video calls, there is an 8MP selfie camera. In addition to face unlock, the handset also has a fingerprint sensor on its back panel and houses a massive 5,000mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy Fold issues are reportedly solved, launch date not revealed yet

Samsung’s Galaxy Fold was one of those devices which would change the face of the industry had it hit the right notes, but unfortunately, it didn’t. Samsung sent some models of the Galaxy Fold smartphone to some reviewers prior to its release. However, it was reported by many of them that their review unit broke. Its screen and the protective plasticky layer on top were the main culprits. This even made Samsung postpone the launch of its foldable smartphone. Now, reports have surfaced online saying that the company has found the major problems and solved them too.

Before releasing the Galaxy Fold to the markets around the world, the company decided to send some review units to tech reviewers and YouTubers. But moments later, news started swarming in that the Galaxy Fold’s screen had protective layer on top, which when removed, could damage the device. However, Samsung had not informed these reviewers about not removing the layer on the device. But this changed later as Samsung then decided to put a warning on the box, asking the users not to remove the plastic covering. Since it appeared more like a plastic protection rather than an important piece of the device some of the reviewers removed it, and the screen of the Galaxy Fold turned black.

There was also a screen flickering issue in Samsung Galaxy Fold along with some problems in the hinges of the device. Although the company had earlier said that it would fix the design issue thus putting an indefinite delay to the release of Galaxy Fold. But now, according to a report by Yonhap News, Samsung has found a solution of the flaws in its Galaxy Fold. The company is planning to put the protective screen layer into the body of the device rather than on the top. It will also block the gaps at the top and the bottom of the hinges of Samsung Galaxy Fold which would prevent the debris from entering inside the device and killing the display.

After the indefinite delay of the Galaxy Fold, Samsung apologized to the customers who had pre-booked the device. But even though the faults in the Galaxy Fold has been located and solved, the company has not released a launch date of the device yet. It hasn’t finalized when the device will be available in the markets again.

Recalling all the Galaxy Fold units before its release was a wise move from the South Korean tech giant. If it was released in the markets there was a 100% chance that it would be bigger than the backlash Samsung faced with its Galaxy Note 7.

Valve’s Steam Link application has finally made its way to Apple’s App Store

1

Valve has rolled out its Steam Link application to mobile devices. The application allows the PC users to stream their games from their own PC to an Apple TV, iPhone or iPad. The app was rejected from the by Apple for over a year but now, it has been added to the App Store. The Steam Link app allows the users to play their Steam games on Apple devices. To play the games, the players would need to have a high-speed local Wi-Fi network and a powerful PC.

It should be noted that Valve had announced the launch of the application for Android and iOS on May 9 last year. The application made its way to the Apple’s App Store after the approval process but it was removed the next day. Post that, Valve released a statement which stated that Apple’s review team had missed a business conflict and thus the app was removed. The application would have allowed the users to purchase the games through Steam but it was against what Apple wants its partners to do. Apple has always been strict about its rules because it places the security of its users’ data on a very high priority.

According to Apple, all applications must go through the App store to make the purchases which Steam Link app lacked. And because of this, Apple wouldn’t have get the percentage it gets when a user purchases something using the App Store. The Valve’s Steam Link app allowed the users to make it work as a remote desktop tool, the users could use the application to make the purchases of games directly from the application.

After facing rejection, Apple had said that it was working with Valve on the application and its transaction processes. And now, a year later, the application has finally made its way to the Apple App Store. It can be downloaded to iPhones, iPads, iPod touch and the Apple TV. But it should be noted that the latest application of Valve doesn’t let the users purchase games from Steam. The application is currently available on the App Store for free.

The application would work on iPhones or iPads running iOS 11 or later, on Windows or Linux based PC or Mac. The users can use the Steam controllers or Bluetooth Keyboards and mice to play the games. According to Valve, the players can play games at 1080p at 60fps but it can be increased to 4K and 60fps if a powerful PC is used. To play the games, the players would need a 5Hz Wi-Fi network and it can be played at a local network, in home or office.
