Asus ROG Phone 2 may launch in July, ROG unit ties up with Tencent Games

Taiwanese electronics company Asus’ ROG sub-brand is now partnering with China’s Tencent Games to develop some new gaming experiences for smartphones users. The company has made an announcement about its latest partnership on social networking website Weibo. The tie-up clearly suggests that the company has started working on its Asus ROG Phone 2, which will succeed Asus ROG Phone that was launched by the company last year.

Asus ROG Phone 2 is expected to arrive in July and it will compete directly with the likes of Black Shark 2 and Nubia Red Magic 3. We should also point out that Tencent Games is a part of Tencent Holdings that owns a number of game companies like Epic Games and Riot Games. The company also owns the studio that created PUBG Mobile.

According to the post on Weibo, the partnership does not detail any major future plans, however, it does hint at the launch of Asus ROG Phone 2. As we mentioned earlier, the new gaming smartphone is expected to be launched in July this year.

Asus ROG and Tencent Games are said to be working to create content and gaming experiences for smartphone users. In addition to this, the company is also likely to leverage Tencent’s extensive reach in the world of e-sports tournaments. Asus can make use of this to create awareness of its ROG brand among other traditional gamers. The ROG brand by Asus has a line of gaming notebooks and a smartphone that is aimed at gamers.

Tencent Games has been established as one among the key subsidiaries of Tencent Holdings in 2003. Initially, it was only popular for the online games that it created, however, with PUBG Mobile, the company has become a household name. The popularity of the company particularly escalated once the mobile version of PUBG was launched as it crossed more than 200 million downloads and 30 million daily active users.

Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa to get support for Hindi soon

Amazon’s Alexa is one of the well-known AI voice assistants after Apple’s Siri and Google Assistant. Similar to the workings of other voice assistants, Alexa does what other assistants do, it listens to the command of the user and tries to fulfil the task given to it. But it should be known that similar to other consumer product, Alexa too is a consumer product, and India being one of the biggest markets, it is only natural that the company would focus in the country. And that’s what it seems to be doing as the team at Amazon’s Alexa is working to introduce more regional language capabilities to the voice assistant Alexa so that even the non-English speaking users would be able to use it.

Currently, Alexa speaks more than 14 language variants. While most Indians use English in the smart speaker, those who are not averse to it have still not warmed up to the idea of owning a smart speaker. According to IDC (International Data Corporation), Amazon Echo led the Indian smart speaker market with 59% in 2018. Google Home, a smart speaker by Google, was left with only 39%.

Rohit Prasad, Vice President and Head Scientist for Alexa told IANS at re: Mars event, “Yes, we are working on infusing regional languages capabilities in Alexa for the Indian market but these are early days. Right now, Alexa can understand some Hinglish commands but these are few and far between. For us, it is a contextual, cultural as well as content-related challenge as the question is not that Alexa just needs to understand Hindi. This part we can do relatively easily but Alexa needs to be Indian when it speaks in Hindi as there are several dialects and accents out there which Alexa has to understand and react accordingly. These are challenges which are not language dependent but more culture dependent. We believe in introducing a wholesome experience to delight our customers and not something that is half-baked. We are working on to solve these issues in the Indian context.”

It should be noted that in 2018, Amazon came out with a new category of skill for Alexa called “Cleo”, which enabled the voice assistant to learn Hindi and other regional languages. Other than Hindi, the users can also answer Alexa’s English statements in Indian regional languages such as Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Bengali, Telugu, Gujarati etc.

Currently, Amazon’s Alexa is available in more than 80 countries and it speaks more than 14 languages. With Amazon’s focus targeted towards India, we could soon see Alexa supporting Indian languages. Once it happens the users can use Alexa to play songs, schedule tasks, reading newspaper in their own language too.

Airtel adds LTE 900 Mhz 4G band spectrum to Assam and North East Indian states

Bharti Airtel has constantly been expanding its reach to widen the userbase of its platform. The company has now expanded its 4G network coverage in Assam and states of the North East India with LTE 900 technology. Airtel is using the 900 Mhz 4G band in hopes to enhance the indoor network coverage in those areas and states and it also wishes to enhance the network experience of the smartphone users.

With the roll out of 4G in the 900 Mhz spectrum band, Airtel will be getting the additional high-speed data capacity with which it can serve its customers. Airtel also mentions that since the 900 Mhz 4G band has a high propagation and has a high reach, it would allow the customers of Airtel in Assam and North East states to enjoy an improved 4G availability. The 900 Mhz 4G band which Airtel will be using in these states will reach inside buildings, homes, offices as well as malls. Other than that, Airtel 4G will be accessible and available to a wider area across the entire region due to the user of the 900 Mhz 4G band.

Raveendra Desai, Assam and North East, Bharti Airtel said, “Our endeavour is to deliver quality network experience to our customers. The deployment of LTE 900 will further boost Airtel 4G coverage, particularly inside homes and buildings. Airtel smartphone customers will enjoy a seamless high speed data and HD quality calling experience on our upgraded network.  We will continue to invest in deployment of latest network technologies to delight our customers.”

It should be noted that, Bharti Airtel uses a spectrum bank of 2,300 Mhz (TD LTE), 1,800 Mhz (FD LTE) and now the 900 Mhz (LTE 900) in Assam and the North Eastern states. All these spectrum banks used by Airtel helps the telecom operator to offer 4G VoLTE services to its customers. In addition to this, Airtel has deployed network technologies and tools such as the 4G Advanced and Carrier Aggregation to boost up the high-speed network capacity and coverage.

This new development from Airtel about expanding its coverage in Assam and North Eastern states using the LTE 900 Mhz 4G band comes after its announcement where it said that it will be expanding its network in Assam and North East Indian states. For that it will be rolling out 2,720 new base stations and 3,100 Km of optic fiber under the network transformation program. Although we didn’t hear anything about the installation of optic fiber or new base stations in those states but installing a new band spectrum could be the start.

To focus more on its cloud-based services, Google has agreed to buy the Looker Data Sciences for $2.6 billion. Google announced its acquisition of the new company on Thursday, June 6 and this gives the company a tool with which it can sell more cloud storage and software related to the cloud. Other than Google, Amazon and Microsoft have also started focusing more on cloud-based services. Considering that Amazon and Microsoft already have made a name for themselves in the cloud business, it puts Google at a very competitive place.

The acquired company – Looker – is located in Santa Cruz, California and it helps the companies to visualize and analyse the data that they store on the cloud. We should mention that Google had to pay $2.6 billion for the deal, making it one of the biggest acquisitions by the company yet. Back in 2014, the search giant acquired the smart home company named Nest Labs for a staggering $3.2 billion. But since the company is facing an antitrust investigation by the US Department of Justice, any of the deals which the company makes will be monitored.

It should be noted that many technology companies think that Cloud is the next step in the internet and world wide web services. That is the reason Microsoft and Amazon and other big companies are focusing so much on the Cloud. A few days earlier, Sony too partnered with Microsoft so that it could use the Azure cloud system that Microsoft owns. So, Cloud is an important aspect for Google’s growth as well, as its search advertising business is slowing down.

According to Bloomberg’s Intelligence analyst, Jennifer Rie, “I think it will get scrutiny because these are complicated businesses and there is so much sensitivity around small acquisitions by the big tech companies.” The deal also won’t “disadvantage any other competitors or have any real potential for harm. I do think the regulators will take a close look, however.”

Thomas Kurian, the head of Cloud said that even though the company has acquired Looker, it won’t stop it from doing business with other companies and its competitors as they have to rely on more than one cloud services to function.

Kurian said, “Many people have asked us for many months, ‘Are you rushing to do acquisitions? We’ve been very disciplined in building our sales, go-to-market capability, and our own products. We’ve chosen Looker as a very complimentary technology that a lot of customers will find value in very quickly.”

The acquisition of Looker by Google will be completed later this year. But it should be noted that both the companies already share more than 350 joint customers and some of the companies include King, Hearst, yahoo, WPP Essence and more. So, the acquisition will help Google strengthen its hold on the tech industry.

Snapchat adds Zynga’s Tiny Royale battle royale game to its Snap Games: Here’s how to play it

0

With the popularity and the increasing user base of the battle royale games, more and more platforms and companies are leaning towards the genre. Earlier in April, social-networking platform Snapchat announced Zynga’s Tuny Royale battle royale game which would be available on its platform exclusively. Now, a month later, Snapchat has brought the Tiny Royale battle royale game to its platform for the users. So, now, if you head to Snapchat, you will see that the game is available to play. With the addition of the new battle royale game to the application, people who enjoy playing PUBG or Fortnite may find a new reason to come to the platform.

The new game allows the users to battle with their in-game friends, and they can also collect new weapons, much like other battle royale games. Other than that, the Tiny Royale also allows the players to unlock characters and health packs along with way. They can collect all this on the map which shrinks as the match progresses and it will keep on shrinking until only one player or one team is alive. The game even lets you join or make teams or squads, or you can play alone and the last standing player will win. In other words, it’s a battle royale which uses all the features of the genre and adds to a pocket-sized edition.

The Zynga-developed battle royale game is currently available on Snapchat’s in-app gaming platform Snap Games. Talking about how the game works, its similar to other battle royale games. The players will have to shoot the players of the opponent team/single and then collect the loot. They need to also save themselves and, in the end, kill everyone to become the last one standing. The players can go solo or form a squad for a quick two-minute match. At one time, a maximum of 30 players can play the game in the same map, the teams will be made of four. But instead of giving a third person or a first-person view, the Tiny Royale offers a top-down view. The players are also given custom characters to choose from.

As mentioned above, the Snap Games feature is inside the Snapchat app itself and the players won’t have to exit the app to play the game. There are also many other original and third-party games included in the Snap Games platform. This is a new way for Snapchat to bring and lure in more users to its platform. Some of the games available on the Snap Games platform includes – Bitmoji Party, PikPok’s Zombie Rescue Squad, ZeptoLab’s C.A.T.S. Drift Race, Spry Fox’s Alphabear Hustle, Game Closure’s Snake Squad to name a few.

Here’s how you can play the game:

  1. You can access Snap Games by tapping on the Rocket icon on the chat menu.
  2. Then you can search for the game and tap on it to start playing.
  3. You can also invite and add your friends to play with you and form a team or you can play solo.

Probably this is the reason that Xiaomi keeps on offering a discount on the smartphone every now and then. If you want an affordable smartphone with Snapdragon 845 SoC, and don’t mind Xiaomi‘s bloatware-filled MIUI skin, then you can go for the POCO F1 smartphone that is available at a price cut as of now.

Prior to this, the smartphone was available for Rs 19,999 in the country. So, Xiaomi has reduced the pricing of the handset by Rs 2,000. You can buy the POCO F1 smartphone at the discounted pricing from Flipkart as well as Mi.com.

The device is available in Steel Blue and Rosso Red colours. If you buy the smartphone via Flipkart, you can also get a no-cost EMI option, an exchange offer and a 5% instant discount on Axis Bank Buzz Credit Cards.

Fortnite’s latest update brings a new weapon called Storm Flip: Here’s everything that you should know

0

Popular battle royale game Fortnite has added another weapon in the Battle Royale mode called the Storm Flip. The new weapon comes in a new update for the game, and it is a throwable item which explodes on impact and creates a sphere-shaped zone (much like any other throwable). The new Fortnite version 9.20 comes with bug fixes of the previous version along with other improvements. In addition to this, a dancer and a comedian who is famous for his Billy Bounce dance move – YouFunnyB – has also been added to the new update.

Talking about the new weapon – the Storm Flip – it creates a sphere-shaped zone on impact. This zone can create a safe zone when it overlaps with a storm and it will create a storm zone when it overlaps a safe zone. The created zone will last for about 20 seconds before the zone changes back to normal. The Storm Flip can be found in floor loot, chests and vending machines. According to the changelog which comes with the new update, the weapon is available in Epic Rarity.

According to the changelog, “The changes of getting high-powered, rare items from Supply Drones was higher than felt appropriate, so we’ve reduced their availability slightly.” The new updated Fortnite v 9.20 has also removed the hunting rifles from the game. The sniper packages availability in the supply drones has been reduced from 12.5% to 8.45%, so now it will be difficult to find these weapons. The explosive package availability has been reduced from 12.5% to 7.04%. Other than the addition of a new weapon, changes has been made to the Save the World and the Fortnite Creative mode.

Fortnite’s new update also brings Transmitter and Receivers to the game and it allows the players to link their devices to each other using the Channels. There is also a new Pueblo Theme launched in the game, that allows the players to build a desert town which pairs with a new Canyon Island. There is also the Mounted Turret’s usage which has been decreased over time so that the Overheat time is increased by 20%. Other than that, the changelog also mentions that the players revived from the Reboot Van will lose their vulnerability when shooting or building.

Furthermore, YouFunnyB announced that he has worked with Epic Games to add his Billy Bounce Dance move to Fortnite and it will soon be added to the game as a dance emote. If the players want to buy this dance move, it will cost them 500 V-bucks or $5 (approximately Rs 346). It should be noted that the game earlier had faced many troubles in the past over not giving the credits to the performers of the dance before they integrated the dance to their game. The company also faced lawsuits from some of the dancers for featuring their dance moves in the game. But later, those lawsuits were dropped.

Moto E6 Plus’ Geekbench listing shows MediaTek Helio P22 SoC and Android 9.0 Pie

Lenovo-owned smartphone brand Motorola has plans of launching a new premium smartphone in India this month. From what it looks like, the company is getting ready to launch more smartphone models in different markets. Among these, the Moto E6 is one handset that has been talked about a lot. A report had surfaced online in April which claimed that the smartphone was supposed to launch via US carriers. Now, a new listing has appeared on Geekbench that suggests that the company is working on Moto E6 Plus, which will be powered by MediaTek Helio P22 SoC and run Android 9.0 Pie.

According to a report by NashvilleChatter, popular benchmarking app for smartphones, Geekbench, has listed a scorecard for ‘Motorola Moto E6 Plus’. The listing states the single and multi-core scores of the upcoming smartphone. Other than this, some of the key specifications of the handset like its processor, RAM and Android version have also been listed on the platform.

The Geekbench listing states that the smartphone will come with an ‘ARM MT6762V/WB’ processor, which is popularly known as Helio P22 processor. We should mention that this is an entry-level chipset that is found in budget smartphones. The handset will reportedly come with 2GB of RAM, however, there are chances of other RAM/storage configurations being made available at the time of the launch. The device is listed to run the Android 9.0 Pie.

Moto E6 plus geekbench

As we mentioned earlier, in April, a report had surfaced online which had the specifications of the Moto E6 listed on it. According to the report, the Moto E6 smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC and will be launched via US carriers. It is a very high possibility that the Moto E6 Plus will be launched along with it. However, we should mention that the presence of the MediaTek chip hints that the smartphone could be launched outside the US, and India could definitely be one among the countries where it is made available.

Although not much is known about the smartphone as of now, the pricing of the device is expected to be under Rs 10,000, considering that a number of smartphones in that range come with similar specifications.

On the other hand, Motorola is also gearing up to launch a new ‘premium device’ on June 20 in India. As of now, there are no reports about what to expect from the launch. However, it has been speculated that the company is planning to launch the Motorola One Vision smartphone, that was recently unveiled in Brazil.

How to get a refund on the games and app purchases made from Microsoft Store?

It’s the era of online gaming and the days when one had to go to a shop to purchase games are long gone. With the rise in popularity of the internet, everything has been moved online from where the gamers and the users can purchase games. But there are also problems with purchasing games online. For instance, you may not get a refund for an online game if you wished to return it. But this is changing now, as Sony and Valve both have offered digital refunds through purchases made on Steam or the PlayStation Store. Microsoft too has added this feature to its platform. Now, Microsoft has also brought the refunds for digital copies of Xbox One and the Windows 10 games and apps purchased via the Microsoft Store. But since the feature is new, most players and users are not aware of this feature.

Here we are listing down the ways by which you can get refund on your purchase made on Microsoft Store. However, we must mention that not all games are eligible for refunds.

Which games are eligible for refunds?

The users who purchased a game from the Microsoft Store can get a refund but there are certain limitations and rules. Games and applications purchased are only eligible for a refund within 14 days of purchase. But it should also be noted that the users should have played less than 2 hours on the game across all accounts.

In other words, you can’t get a refund if you play the game for 50+ hours and try to return before 14 days. The time limit is just 2 hours.

In addition to this, Downloadable content, season passes and other add-ons aren’t eligible for refunds either, the refunds will be made just for the base game itself.

Also keep in mind that users should take note that you will need to wait at least one day after the game’s release date before you request a refund. You can also have the game downloaded and launched at least once to get a refund as the companies wants to make sure you have actually played the game or just tried the game once.

How to get a refund on Microsoft Store?

  1. First you need to log in to your Microsoft Account – the one which you used to make the purchase.
  2. Go the menu bar on the top, and click on Payment & Billing.
  3. Here, click on Order History.
  4. Once there, go to the app or game you want a refund on and then click on Request a refund.
  5. That’s it, you should get an instant refund if you have followed all the rules we stated earlier. You don’t need to fill up a form or anything, but there will be times when the refund won’t start and Microsoft will ask you to verify the reason of the refund. If that happens, you need to get in touch with a Microsoft representative within 72 hours of applying for refund.

Earlier, leaks and renders hinted that the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will pack a quad-camera setup at the back and a center-placed punch hole camera on its front panel. There was also news that the device will pack a smaller battery (around 3,500mAh) than that of its predecessor Samsung Galaxy Note 9 (4,000mAh battery). But now, a recent development reveals that the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will come in two variants and the higher end variant will bear a bigger price tag – similar to the Samsung Galaxy S10+. The second variant will be a lesser and watered down variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 with a lesser price similar to the Samsung Galaxy S10e. The newest leaks that have surfaced online suggest the price of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.

According to a Russian website named Hi-Tech, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 is expected to be priced around $1,100 to $1,200 (approximately Rs 76,000 to Rs 83,000) and this was first spotted by GSMArena. Other than the price, the reports doesn’t mention if the given price was for the watered-down variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 or the high-end version. But seeing the ever-increasing price point of the smartphone this year it wouldn’t be a surprise if the company placed the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 past the $1,200 mark.

It should be noted that the reports further claimed that the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will pack a smaller hole-punch camera than the earlier Samsung Galaxy S-series. According to our previous reports, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will come in two different screen sizes. Out of the two, the bigger of the smartphone will then come in four different variants with two display sizes. Similar to the current smartphone trend, the bigger and the top-end models of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will come with a ‘Pro’ moniker in its name. Unlike the Samsung Galaxy S10-series, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 10 series will have a vertical camera placement and its front camera placement will also be changed.

Other than that, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Pro is expected to come with a 4,500mAh battery while the watered-down variant of the device is expected to come with a 3,400mAh battery. The upcoming Galaxy Note 10 will reportedly come with 45W fast charger as well. Also, there won’t be a headphone jack on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and there will be no physical buttons on the new Note device.

It makes Nokia 2.2 the cheapest smartphone to receive the Android Q update from Google and it has also made the budget segment market a little tougher to compete. Processor

Nokia 2.2: MediaTek Helio A22 SoC

Nokia 2.1: Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC

The Nokia 2.1 is the clear winner here with its Snapdragon 425 SoC, even though the Nokia 2.2 is powered by a newer Helio A22 CPU.

Rear camera

Nokia 2.2: 13MP rear camera

Nokia 2.1: 8MP auto-focus camera with LED flash

On some areas like the CPU, Nokia 2.1 wins with its Qualcomm’s Snapdragon CPU, even though the SoC on the device is older but it will no doubt compete against well against the new Nokia 2.2 powered by Helio A22 SoC. Nokia 2.1 loses on the RAM and storage department where it packs only 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage so multi-tasking and storing many files wouldn’t work on it.
