Apple reportedly confirms a massive iOS security hole impacts all iPhone users

0

Apple has given the best of the iPhones to its fans worldwide. Now, the tech giant is once again in news not because it is bringing something new. According to a Forbes report, Apple has now confirmed that the report by ZecOps, which had stated that every iPhone powered by iOS 6 or newer version is prone to remote attacks, is a reality.

The report by Forbes has revealed that “Apple has now gone a step further in talking about this security breach and it has met a controversial response.” As per an official statement issued by the tech giant, “Apple takes all reports of security threats seriously. We have thoroughly investigated the researcher’s report and, based on the information provided, have concluded these issues do not pose an immediate risk to our users. The researcher identified three issues in Mail, but alone they are insufficient to bypass iPhone and iPad security protections, and we have found no evidence they were used against customers.

In the official statement, Apple clarified, “These potential issues will be addressed in a software update soon. We value our collaboration with security researchers to help keep our users safe and will be crediting the researcher for their assistance.”

Earlier, ZecOps had revealed that “Following a routine iOS Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR) investigation, ZecOps found a number of suspicious events that affecting the default Mail application on iOS dating as far back as Jan 2018. ZecOps analysed these events and discovered an exploitable vulnerability affecting Apple’s iPhones and iPads. ZecOps detected multiple triggers in the wild to this vulnerability on enterprise users, VIPs, and MSSPs, over a prolonged period of time.”

ZecOps had further stated in its report that the attack’s scope consists of sending a specially crafted email to a victim’s mailbox enabling it to trigger the vulnerability in the context of iOS MobileMail application on iOS 12 or maild on iOS 13.

In addition to this, ZecOps had added “We believe that these attacks are correlative with at least one nation-state threat operator or a nation-state that purchased the exploit from a third-party researcher in a Proof of Concept (POC) grade and used ‘as-is’ or with minor modifications (hence the 4141..41 strings). While ZecOps refrain from attributing these attacks to a specific threat actor, we are aware that at least one ‘hackers-for-hire’ organization is selling exploits using vulnerabilities that leverage email addresses as a main identifier.”

Telegram Messenger to soon introduce “secure group video calls” on its platform

The Social media app Telegram Messenger has come up with new features that will be helpful to many users to stay connected. The chatting app will introduce secure group video calls. It comes with various features such as folders, cloud storage as well as desktop support to make it more useful to users working from home or studying during the lockdown.

Right now it is not easier to trust any of the other video communication tools. Some are secure but not useable or those who are usable but not secure for instance Zoom. In order to take on these popular but not so secure video conferencing apps Telegram is going to come up with a secure group video calls feature on its platform. However, the feature was announced last week and the company also introduced several other features to kill time while getting bored at home. These features are Quizzes, educational tests, 20,000 stickers and many more.

Until now Telegram did not support a video calling feature but via a new blog post, the company aims to bring a  secure group video calls to feature by this year when most of the apps are not secure keeping their user’s data and privacy at risk. “What’s next, you might ask? The current global lockdown highlighted the need for a trusted video communication tool. Video calls in 2020 are much like messaging in 2013. There are apps that are either secure or usable, but not both. We’d like to fix that, and we will focus on bringing you secure group video calls in 2020. When will they be ready? You‘ll be the first to know when we’re done, promise. So stop asking,” the blog post said.

While on the other hand its rival and popular chatting app WhatsApp has increased the limit of people in a group video or voice call. It now supports up to eight participants in group video calls. Earlier it used to support up to four people.

Earlier this year Telegram introduced a Quiz Mode that allowed users to lex their trivia muscles. Now the company is rolling out an update to this feature with educational features. Earlier it has objective-based multiple-choice questions but with the new update, the users can now add explanations in response to quiz questions allowing them to learn from their mistakes or giving them more context.

Now while creating a quiz via @Quizbot the users can now set a timer for questions. Timers add to the competitive element of Telegram quizzes, which are often used for exam preparation in student group chats. With the new countdown animation, everyone can see how much time they have left.

Furthermore, Telegram has announced to distribute EUR 400,000 )that translates to Rs 3.29 crores) among creators of educational tests. “To take part, use @QuizBot to create and publish an original educational test on any subject at any difficulty level, in any language. Feel free to choose anything from basic Medieval European History in English to Mikrobiologie für Experten auf Deutsch – and add any media you require to your questions, but make sure all intellectual property rights are respected. We will publish the quizzes you submit in a searchable directory. Based on their quality and popularity we will then announce the winners in several stages. Submissions for the first stage end on May 15.”

Moreover, the company has also introduced a new sticker directory where you can browse and search the over 20,000 high-quality free Telegram stickers created in the last 5 years.

DJI launches Mavic Air 2 drone to usher in a new era of aerial creativity

DJI, the global leader in civilian drones and aerial imaging technology, has now stepped into a new era of aerial creativity with the compact and easy-to-fold Mavic Air 2 drone.

Stressing that Mavic Air 2 is another milestone for the company, Roger Luo, President of DJI, claimed, “While the Mavic Air 2 bears all the hallmarks of the Mavic drone family, we had to completely rethink its design and development process. Our goal was to create a drone that offered the best overall experience possible to even the most novice pilot. We hope our drones can help boost creativity and become a fun yet educational experience that can be enjoyed, even at this unprecedented moment in history.”

The new Mavic Air 2 drone features robust imaging capabilities for every type of creator. In an press statement, DJI claims, “No matter the skill level of the pilot, Mavic Air 2’s features and technology are sure to appeal to every creative visionary. Mavic Air 2 is the first drone in the Mavic series to offer 4K video at 60 fps and 120 Mbps.”

In addition to this, users of DJI Mavic Air 2 drone can record content using HDR video, 4X Slow Motion in 1080p at 120 fps or 8X Slow Motion in 1080p at 240 fps. Moreover, pilots can capture 12MP images or choose a new high-resolution 48MP feature that allows the user not to miss even the minutest of the details. Besides, there is a mechanical 3-axis gimbal that enables a user to compensate for camera shake to create smooth and stable footage even in unpredictable scenarios.

Apart from the 3-axis gimbal, DJI stressed that the large Quad Bayer ½-inch sensor of the Mavic Air 2 is the perfect tool to take creativity to the next level with a suite of image capture modes. The newly added SmartPhoto feature clicks 12MP photos using advanced scene analysis and deep-learning to automatically choose one of three image capture options:

  1. HDR photos:

DJI Mavic Air 2 drone automatically captures seven varying exposures of the HDR photograph, merging them together to bring out a highly dynamic image.

  1. Hyperlight:

This is designed for low-light scenarios, taking multiple photographs and merging them to bring out a clear image with less of the noise which usually occurs in low-light scenes.

  1. Scene Recognition:

DJI Mavic Air 2 can recognize five categories of scenes including sunsets, blue skies, grass, snow, and trees, then optimize settings to make the photograph pop by bringing out the highest degree of colour, detail, and tones.

With an aim to provide unparalleled flight performance, DJI Mavic Air 2 weighs as much as a small water bottle at 570 grams. Besides this, the Mavic Air 2 drone comes equipped with new motors, new electronic speed controllers (ESCs), enhanced battery technology and an aerodynamic design to provide a maximum flight time of up to 34 minutes. According to the company, “DJI’s proprietary OcuSync 2.0 transmission technology has been upgraded to deliver an extremely reliable and stable HD video feed from the drone at a maximum distance of 10km. OcuSync 2.0 supports both 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz frequency bands and uses an auto-switching feature to move between the two based on signal strength, while anti-interference technology blocks unwanted signals to keep the video feed clear.”

Looking at the other features of DJI Mavic Air 2 drone is equipped with obstacle sensors on the front and rear of the drone to warn pilots when they’re too close to an object and can also be set to stop the drone from moving any closer to avoid collision. Besides this, DJI revealed that there are additional sensors and auxiliary lights on the bottom of the Mavic Air 2 to help the user with several functions including smooth, automatic landing even in difficult lighting. Additionally, Mavic Air 2 also house GEO geofencing solution to help keep drones away from the highest-risk locations, such as busy airports.

What’s more interesting is that whe users enable Advanced Pilot Assistance System (APAS) 3.0, as obstacles come into the drone’s path, Mavic Air 2 will create a new path around, under or over the object to avoid collision, giving pilots the confidence to fly in more complex situations while focusing on capturing their ideal images. As per DJI, “Using 3D mapping, the updated version aids in smooth transitions and more fluid movements around objects even in highly complex environments.”

As far as pricing and availability is concerned, DJI Mavic Air 2 is available for immediate purchase in China while other regions will begin taking pre-orders with an expected ship time of mid-May owing to the new complexities for global shipping and logistics due to the coronavirus pandemic. Mind you! DJI Mavic Air 2 will be available in two purchasing options:

WhatsApp reportedly registers a 70 percent drop in spread of viral messages on its platform

0

As WhatsApp had earlier announced that it is introducing a limit on the forwarded messages to constrain virality of messages circulating on its platform, a TechCrunch report has now revealed that the Facebook-owned instant messaging app has now registered a 70 percent decrease in the spread of total viral messages forwarded across the globe.

WhatsApp, which had introduced this restriction for all its user on April 7, had said that its users can share the frequently forwarded messages to only one chat at a time. Earlier, these forwarded messages could be sent to five chats at a single go.

In 2019, WhatsApp had unveiled the concept of messages that have been forwarded many times. These messages are labelled with double arrows to indicate they did not originate from a close contact. In effect, these messages are less personal compared to typical messages sent on WhatsApp.

At the time of putting this restriction, WhatsApp had notified that many of its users forward helpful information, as well as funny videos, memes, and reflections or prayers they find meaningful. Besides this, the WhatsApp users had also organised public moments of support for frontline health workers. However, WhatsApp registered a drastic increase in the amount of forwarding that users can feel overwhelming and can contribute to the spread of misinformation. Therefore, WhatsApp thought it’s important to slow the spread of these messages down to keep its platform a place for personal conversation.

Earlier, an official blog post had stated, “WhatsApp cares deeply about the safety of our users in India and around the world. WhatsApp has made significant product changes and worked with partners across civil society, engaged with relevant government authorities and other technology platforms to help address the harmful consequences of misinformation. While there is no single action that can resolve the complex challenges contributing to misinformation, we are committed to helping do our part to ensure that WhatsApp continues to be a force for good in India.”

In addition to this, WhatsApp has also directly collaborated with NGOs and governments, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and over 20 national health ministries, to help connect people with accurate information. Together, these trusted authorities have sent hundreds of millions of messages directly to people requesting information and advice.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp users can learn more about these efforts, as well as how to submit potential myths, hoaxes and rumours to fact checking organizations, on our Coronavirus Information Hub.

Redmi K30 Pro to debut in India as Poco F2 Pro, also Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition is likely to arrive in the country under the same branding

Xiaomi’s sub-brand is soon going to launch Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition in India but will be rebranded as a Poco device. There has been a lot of news and rumours that the company is planning to bring the Redmi K30 series to India and so is the Poco F2 Pro. Now a Google Play device listing has revealed that the Poco F2 Pro will be launched as the rebranded variant of  Redmi K30 Pro. Both the phones are seen with the same codename under different branding.

First spotted by XDA Developers, a Google’s Play listing which includes the names of  Play-certified devices meaning all the devices that are certified to make use of Google Mobile Services. The latest listing includes the latest variant of Xiaomi Redmi K30 Pro with code name Imi along with model name POCO F2 Pro indicating that the much-awaited Xioami’s device will be rebranded as the POCO F2 Pro.

Google Play listing

Earlier it was reported that Redmi K30 Pro will make its way to the Indian market as Poco F2 as suggested by then-latest MIUI Camera code. Both the devices were spotted with the codename “lmi” and “lmiin” within the camera app along with “SHOT ON POCO Phone” watermark confirming that Redmi K30 Pro will be rebranded into a POCO device for India.

But the latest development suggests that the Google Play listing including Redmi K30 Pro exists as two codename variations — “lmi” as well as “lmiin“. The reports says that the “in ” at the end of the device codename indicates an Indian model and in the past, the company has launched Poco F1 as the rebranded version of Redmi K30 4G in the Indian market.

“This listing does not use “lmiin” for POCO F2 Pro, but only “lmi“. Further, “lmipro“, which is the Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition, sees a corresponding Indian variant in the form of “lmiinpro” which retains the same Redmi branding. This leaves us with the conclusion that the Redmi K30 Pro will likely launch in India under the same branding, and the device will be rebranded into the POCO F2 Pro for other markets,” the report says.

However, the Google Play listing also displayed the ‘lmiinpro’ for the Redmi k30 Pro Zoom Edition indicating that the company might launch the device under the same branding in the Indian market.

Those who are unaware Xiaomi introduced Redmi K30 Pro and Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition in March this year. Both the device comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 processor and runs on MIUI 11 based on top of Android 10. Both the smartphones features a 6.67-inch full-HD+ HDR10+ AMOLED display with 1080 x 2400 pixels of resolution and  1,200 nits of peak brightness. These phones houses a 4,700mAh battery with 33W fast charging support.

Redmi K30 Pro is available in 6GB with 128GB variant, 8GB with 128GB option and 8GB with 256GB model. Whereas the Zoom Edition is offered in  8GB with 128GB storage and 8GB with 256GB variant.

For optics, Redmi K30 Pro comes with a quad rear camera setup that includes a 6, 4-megapixel primary sensor with Optical Image Stabilisation, a 5-megapixel macro lens,  a 13-megapixel wide-angle sensor with 123-degrees of Field of View and a 2-megapixel depth sensor.

Whereas Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition also features a quad-camera system with a 64-megapixel primary camera, a 2-megapixel depth sensor, a 13-megapixel wide-angle sensor and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens offering 3X optical zoom and 30X digital zoom. Both the devices sports a 20-megapixel pop-up selfie camera.

Here’s how you can get Android 11 Developer Preview on Google Pixel devices

0

Google has recently released Android 11 Developer Preview, a program that gives developers everything they need to make the apps compatible and build for the next version of Android. The program is free, and one can get started right away by downloading the Developer Preview SDK and tools.

Here’s how you can get started as Android 11 Developer Preview is available on Google Pixel 4 / 4 XL, Pixel 3a / 3a XL, Pixel 3 / 3 XL, and Pixel 2 / 2 XL devices. Mind you! Google has revealed that “Developer Preview releases are early baseline builds for developers only. Because they’re not suitable for daily use by early adopters or consumers, we’re making them available by manual download and flash only.” In order to flash these baseline builds, simply adhere to the following steps:

Firstly, note that you’ll need to do a full reset. Therefore, ensure to back up your data first.

Secondly, Google has stated that at each milestone, it will offer system image downloads that one can download and flash themselves. To make manual download and flash easier, the tech giant is also offering preview system images through the Android Flash Tool, just connect your device by USB and go. Mind you! One can flash Developer Preview builds direct to their device using the Android Flash Tool.

Thirdly, once a developer has flashed a Developer Preview build to their Pixel device, they’ll automatically be offered over-the-air updates for later Developer Preview and Beta builds.

Lastly, head to the Downloads page for Flash Tool, system image downloads, and complete flashing instructions. One can choose to revert to a production build at any time – to do that, they need to flash the appropriate system image from the Pixel factory images page. Remember, one needs to do a full reset in this case as well.

According to Google, “If you are not a developer but you want to try Android 11, please wait a little longer – we’re expecting to open Android Beta enrollments in the next several weeks.”

As far as Android Emulator is concerned, Google revealed that “Even if you don’t have access to a hardware device that can run Android 11, you can still participate in the Developer Preview by setting up an Android emulator for development and testing.”

In a blog post, Google has stated that configuring the Android emulator to run Android 11 Developer Preview is a great solution for exploring new features and APIs and testing with Android 11 behaviour changes. Setting up the emulator is fast and convenient and allows you to emulate various screen sizes and device characteristics.

Moreover, Google has further notified that one can set up an emulator with Android 11 Developer Preview from inside Android Studio. All that has to be done is just install the latest system image and create a new virtual device as follows:

  1. In Android Studio, click Tools > SDK Manager.
  2. In the SDK Platforms tab, select Show Package Details at the bottom of the window.
  3. Below Android 11 Developer Preview, select a system image, such as Google APIs Intel x86 Atom System Image.
  4. In the SDK Tools tab, select the latest version of Android Emulator.
  5. Click OK to begin installation.
  6. After the installation has finished, select Tools > AVD Manager, and follow the instructions to create a new AVD.
  7. Be sure to select a Pixel device, and select R for the system image.
  8. When you return to the AVD Manager’s list of virtual devices, double-click your new virtual device to launch it.

The company is to roll out the beta version for Android 11 most likely by next month and we can expect the stable OTA update of Android 11 later this year.

Many of the features which are now available on the Android 11 developer preview 3 might not be included when the final update rolls out. So today we are going to talk about the most useful features that might arrive to the upcoming Google’s operating system that is currently the part of DP3.

App screen gets larger previews along with shortcut button

According to a report, the app will get bigger previews now also there are going to be shortcuts for Screenshots and share at the bottom. The Screenshots button can be used to take a screenshot of the app whereas the Share button will allow you to take a screenshot and then it immediately opens up the share sheet.

App permissions automatically gets denied if not being used for months

This is going to be an interesting privacy feature on the DP3 that is known as “Auto revoke permissions.” As the name suggests this feature automatically denies the app’s permissions if a particular app hasn’t been used for a few months.

Notification shade has been upgraded with hidden notifications

The Notification shade has been redesigned and comes with more changes such as expanded Quick Settings toggles that are now wider and as well as gradient. Along with the Clear All button a History button has been added to the new Notification History page. On top of that, the users can now swipe away persistent notifications that keep showing up for application along with Foreground service. When dismissed it gets listed in an “Apps active in background” section.

Undo gesture to bring back ousted apps

This feature was earlier spotted in the previous Android 10 Q betas that is now again available on the latest DP3 in order to bring back applications that have been recently swiped away. You will now get an option to undo an app which has been swiped down in the Recent app menu to bring it back.

Compact Screenshot pop-up menu

At the moment when you take a screenshot the options for screenshots is shown in the notification panel that allows you to share, edit or delete it in the latest Android 10. But now you will be getting a compact pop up menu for the screenshot which can be removed by tapping on the X button, can be shared as well as edited using an image editor. Also, an option to allow you to take scrolling screenshots might also arrive and is not fully functional.

Lots of other useful features are also available to the Android 11 DP3 such as full-screen gesture navigation with inward swipe gestures from left and right sides of the screen replacing the back button, support for ethernet tethering along with redesigned caption preferences.

COVID-19: Google once again brings its popular interactive Doodle games for people staying indoors

0

With COVID-19 severely impacting communities around the world, people and families everywhere are practising social distancing much more seriously. Now, to keep people staying indoors entertained, Google has launched a throwback Doodle series looking back at some of its popular interactive Google Doodle games.

Today’s Doodle “Coding for Carrots” — the first coding Doodle ever – had first appeared on Google on December 4, 2017. Google was, then, celebrating fifty years of coding languages for kids.

In the interactive Doodle, you program and help a furry friend across 6 levels in a quest to gather its favourite food by snapping together coding blocks based on the Scratch programming language for kids.

“Coding for Carrots” doodle was developed through the close teamwork of not one or two but three teams: the Google Doodle team, Google Blockly team and researchers from MIT Scratch.

In 2017, Champika Fernando, one of the project’s most passionate collaborators at MIT, had then said, “With Scratch, kids can create their own interactive stories, games, and animations, using coding blocks just like the ones in today’s Doodle. They can also share their projects in an online community with millions of other kids around the world. We believe all kids should have the opportunity to develop their confidence with the technology that surrounds us.”

Now, millions of people around the world can once again enjoy their first experience with coding. “It makes me happy to think of all of the nine-year-olds who will get their first coding experience playing with today’s Doodle. My hope is that people will find this first experience appealing and engaging, and they’ll be encouraged to go further. In some ways, it’s very different from my first coding experience many years ago, but I hope it will be just as inspiring and influential for them,” she had stated at time of first rolling out of this “Coding for Carrots” doodle.

In this “Coding for Carrots” doodle by Google, all you have to do is simply help the rabbit to collect his favourite food by monitoring its movement along a block of tiles. For this, you need to instruct the rabbit whether it has to “go forward” or he need to “turn left or right” till the time he doesn’t head towards its goal.

Do let us know about your experience with this Google Doodle in the comments section below.

From now onwards Whatsapp group call will be supporting up to 8 participants. Earlier this feature was spotted on WhatsApp beta, which was under development. But now the company has officially announced the rollout of this feature on both Android and iOS platforms.

7 ways how Facebook Messenger Rooms is different from Zoom Meetings

0

In today’s unprecedented times, video-calling apps are helping most of us bridge the distance. Now, Facebook has also introduced Messenger Rooms to make it easy for users to spend quality time with friends, loved ones and people who share your interests. Let’s check out how Facebook Messenger Rooms are different from already popular video-conferencing app Zoom.

How much is the cost and time limit

Interestingly, Facebook Messenger Room can be accessed free of cost for unlimited time as against Zoom, where price variates from free-tier to the paid version. The Basic version for Zoom Personal Meeting comes free of cost with a limited time of 40 minutes only. The Pro version of Zoom, which seems to be great for small teams, comes for monthly charge of $14.99 with a time limit of 24 hours. The Business version of Zoom Meetings, which can be used by small-and-medium size of businesses, is available for monthly charge of $19.99. Lastly, the Enterprise version of Zoom, which is perfect for large enterprises, comes with a price tag of $19.99 per month.

How participants can be added

While a user can create a room right from Messenger or Facebook, and invite anyone to join the video call, even if they don’t have a Facebook account. The social-networking giant claims that Rooms will soon hold up to 50 people with no time limit. On the contrary, Zoom’s basic personal meeting plan can hold up to 100 participants.

How to start the meeting

In order to start the Messenger Rooms video call, a user can start and share rooms on Facebook via News Feed, Groups and Events that will allow people to join in easily. According to an official blog post by Facebook, “The default privacy settings were designed to be consistent with what you’d expect for where you create a room. For example, rooms you create through a Facebook Group are open by default to members of that Group.”

Mind you! In Facebook Messenger Rooms, you can invite people who don’t even have a Facebook account to join the video call. On the other hand, before joining a Zoom meeting on a computer or mobile device, you can download the Zoom app from the Download Center. Otherwise, you will be prompted to download and install Zoom when you click a join link. The other pre-requisites is that each meeting has a unique 9, 10, or 11-digit number called a meeting ID that will be required to join a Zoom meeting. Moreover, if you are joining via telephone, you will need the teleconferencing number provided in the invite.

How to keep uninvited guests away

Facebook Messenger Rooms can be locked or unlocked once a call begins. If a room is locked, no one else can join, except a Group admin for rooms created through a Group. However, if at any point you feel unsafe in a room, you can leave. Just because a room is locked doesn’t mean you have to stay.

Now looking at Zoom, when you’re in the meeting, click Participants at the bottom of your Zoom window. In the participant’s pop-up box, you will see a button that says Lock Meeting. When you lock the meeting, no new participants can join, even if they have the meeting ID and password.

How can you reporting a violation

As far as Facebook Messengers Rooms are concerned, you can report a room name or submit feedback about a room if you believe it violated our Community Standards. According to Erin Egan, Chief Privacy Officer, Policy at Facebook Messenger, said, “But since we don’t watch or listen to your audio or video calls, it’s important to know that reports and feedback will not include audio or video from the room.”

Now moving on to Zoom, account owners and admins can now enable a setting to allow the host to report participants to Zoom. According to latest release notes by Zoom, “This feature will generate a report which will be sent to the Zoom Trust and Safety team to evaluate any misuse of the platform and block a user if necessary. This setting is available at the account, group, and user level and can be locked at the group or account level.” It is believed that this feature will help the video-conferencing app to counter “Zoombombing.”

How to block someone

You can block someone on Facebook or Messenger who may be bothering you and we won’t inform them. When someone you’ve blocked is logged into Facebook or Messenger, they won’t be able to join a room you’re in and you won’t be able to join theirs.

As the Zoom account owner or admin, you can manage blocked numbers on your account. Blocked numbers can be inbound (numbers will be blocked from calling in) and outbound (phone users in your account won’t be able to dial those numbers). Mind you! Blocked calls will still appear in the admin call log and associated phone user’s call history. Moreover, blocked callers will hear a generic message stating that the person they are trying to reach is not available. If a phone user calls a blocked outbound phone number, they will hear the same generic message stating that the person they are trying to reach is not available.

Besides this, you can even remove unwanted or disruptive participants on Zoom without blocking by heading to the Participants menu. Now, you can mouse over a participant’s name, and several options will appear, including Remove. Click that to kick someone out of the meeting.

How information and activity privacy is managed

Regardless of whether you use Rooms through your Facebook account or join as a guest, an official blog post by the social-networking giant claimed that “we don’t watch or listen to your audio or video calls. When you join a room through Facebook or Messenger, call participants who you aren’t friends with on Facebook will be able to see and hear whatever you say or share in the room, but they won’t gain any greater access to your profile or information in other parts of Facebook. They’ll only be able to see information that they otherwise would have been able to see such as your name and public Facebook profile information, what you’ve posted publicly or content in a group you’ve both joined.” And if you are not logged in to Facebook, only as user has to reveal his/her name as it will be shown to help other guests and the room creator identify you in a call.

On the other hand, Zoom claims, “We do not sell your personal data. Whether you are a business or a school or an individual user, we do not sell your data. Your meetings are yours. We do not monitor them or even store them after your meeting is done unless we are requested to record and store them by the meeting host. We alert participants via both audio and video when they join meetings if the host is recording a meeting, and participants have the option to leave the meeting.”

Moreover, when the meeting is recorded, it is, at the host’s choice, stored either locally on the host’s machine or in our Zoom cloud. As per Aparna Bawa, Zoom’s Chief Legal Officer, the video conferencing app “collects only the user data that is required to provide you Zoom services. This includes technical and operational support and service improvement. For example, we collect information such as a user’s IP address and OS and device details to deliver the best possible Zoom experience to you regardless of how and from where you join.”
