Honor 20 Pro leaked image shows a punch-hole display design

1

The upcoming flagship smartphone from Huawei’s sub-brand – Honor 20 – is scheduled to launch on May 21 in London. Earlier, some leaks and camera renders of the upcoming smartphone had surfaced online showing what it would look like. Weeks ahead of the official launch of the device, another leak has surfaced online which shows the front of the Honor 20 Pro. In the leaked image, it can be seen that the Honor 20 Pro will be housing a hole-punch notched display. Although this is not the first time Honor is coming with a hole-punch cut out display as we have already seen it on the Honor View 20, but this time the hole punch will be bigger than before.

Last month, we saw an image of the Honor 20 Pro’s rear panel which revealed that it would house a quad-camera setup and will come with a gradient back panel. Another leak of the device showed that the Honor 20 Pro will come with a white gradient design with a pinkish hue. But the recent images revealed by DigitalTrends shows the Honor 20 Pro on top of its retail box.

The image shows that the Honor 20 Pro will reportedly sporting a hole-punch camera on the top left corner of the screen. But the thing is, the hole punch camera size on the Honor 20 Pro is bigger than it was on the Honor View 20. Other than that, the device has a thin bezel at the bottom and almost no bezels at the top and sides. There is also a SIM-card slot on the upper left edge of the smartphone. While the display content on top of the Honor 20 Pro shows Amazon’s Alexa along with Fortnite installer. This means that it will support Fortnite gameplay and it might also come with Alexa voice assistant.

Talking about the specifications of the Honor 20 Pro, the leaks and rumours suggest that it will be powered by the Kirin 980 SoC. It will reportedly sport a 40MP main camera with the custom Sony IMX600 image sensor and RGB filter. The main camera will be paired with a 20MP wide-angle camera along with an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom support. The last camera will be a ToF (Time-of-Flight) camera. The Honor 20 Pro is expected to come with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of inbuilt storage. The battery of the device might be of a 3,650mAh capacity with support for 22.5W fast charging.

But since these specifications are based on leaks, they should be taken with a pinch of salt. More details about the device will be made available once it launches later this month.

State-owned telecom operator BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) has revised its prepaid plan once more. In its new plan, BSNL has extended the deadline for its Bumper Offer benefits for the prepaid subscribers to June 30. Earlier, the Bumper Offer plan of BSNL provided selected users an additional 2.21GB data per day. The same plan was extended in January till April 30 and now the company is extending it even further. Other than that, BSNL has also updated its prepaid plans with additional data benefits and they also confirm the extension. For that, users need to recharge from plans ranging from Rs 186 to Rs 1,699.

In the extended Bumper Offer, BSNL is giving its customers benefits of 2.21GB data everyday till June 30. To avail it, the users need to recharge from the prepaid plans including Rs 186, Rs 429, Rs 485, Rs 666, Rs 999, and Rs 1,699. As mentioned, the plans run from Rs 186 to Rs 1,699 prepaid recharge.

But it should be noted that, this plan is similar to the offer BSNL announced back in September 2018. That offer was scheduled to end on January 31 but BSNL extended the validity till April 30. And now that the April’s date limit has passed and once again the company has extended the deadline of the offer to June 30.

The revised prepaid plan from BSNL will offer as much as 3.21GB of data everyday to the user if the recharge is done using the Rs 186 or Rs 429 packs. Earlier, they offered 1GB of data everyday to the user till their mentioned validity. Other than the before-mentioned plans, the Rs 485 prepaid plan and the Rs 666 prepaid recharge plan will also offer 3.7GB of data everyday. Originally both the plans offered 1.5GB of data everyday to the user for the said duration of time.

Other than that, the highest recharge of Rs 1,699 prepaid plan is also getting the increased data usage limit. Now the users who recharges using this recharge pack will get 4.21GB of data everyday which earlier offered only 2GB of data to its user per day. The increased and revised data plan was first noticed by Telecom Talk and it also stated that currently the extended offer is can be used by the users of Chennai and Tamil Nadu circles only. The telecom operator will bring these extended data plans to the other circles in the coming days.

OnePlus’s new OxygenOS Open Beta adds a bloatware which shares sensitive information with Tencent

0

Before the launch of the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7 scheduled for May 14, the company has come to light once again, and this time for all the wrong reasons. The company had rolled out its OxygenOS Open Beta Software update for the OnePlus 6 and the OnePlus 6T devices earlier. And the users of the devices have found something which could land OnePlus in trouble. In the new beta update, the company has added an Intelligent Cleanup feature with the intention of freeing up the storage on the OnePlus 6 and the OnePlus 6T devices. The Intelligent Cleanup feature is present in the preinstalled File Manager application of the device. Besides cleaning up the phone, the app is also sending data to the company who made the application – Tencent. This is obviously very worrisome for the users.

The users noticed that the Intelligent Cleanup tool was a tool made by Tencent. And as per the reports shared by the users on the official OnePlus forum, they are concerned about their data being with Tencent. And it is opposite of the OnePlus’ claim of it being against bloatware. OnePlus had added the Intelligent Cleanup feature for its File Manager app in the OxygenOS Open Beta 17 for the OnePlus 6 and in OxygenOS Open Beta 9 for the OnePlus 6T. In the changelog of the update, this feature is already listed as Clean in the application and it uses a tool developed by Tencent and OnePlus. A user had also pointed out that the updated privacy for File Manager states that relevant data is sent to Tencent’s Singapore server.

It is true that some of the information might be sent to Tencent server such as the Android version, language, region, and hardware model. But it is the other information that is being shared about which the users are worried. Information such as application caching details and app usage details are more sensitive and is found problematic by the users. Some users on Reddit have also reported the same issue about their data being shared with Tencent. However, it should be noted that the feature is currently limited only to India. And there is no word from OnePlus about its expansion of this feature to the other markets.

As mentioned earlier, OnePlus is against the addition of unnecessary bloatware to its devices. We hope that OnePlus will soon fix this or give out a statement about what information is being shared so that its users can be at peace.

Microsoft has said that it will make text typed in incognito made ‘private’

Scores of people live under the impression that their activities in Google’s Chrome Incognito mode are not being tracked or recorded. However, software giant Microsoft has revealed that anything that you type on any browser on Windows is being used to learn user’s typing habits so that they can be assisted with autocomplete and autocorrect suggestions.

The company has also added that it is working to fix this situation saying that it will begin treating all the text that is typed by users in the incongnito made as private. So, it will no longer be analysed by anyone. We should mention that this is very similar to how smartphones treat typed text into secure text fields.

Do note that the change will not become live immediately and it will take some time for it to come into effect. This is because it has currently been applied in the Chromium codebase and can be tested before being adopted in Google Chrome itself. It is worth mentioning that this contribution by Microsoft comes as the software giant is ramping up the Chromium-based version of its Edge browser. This step has been taken after Microsoft decided to abandon the EdgeHTML rendering engine.

The report of the development first appeared in 9to5Google and it said that it spotted the change in Chromium developers’ message board. We should add that the thread said that the change has been added by a Microsoft employee and it is being reviewed by peers from within the open-source Chromium organisation.

It should also be noted that both Chromium and Windows have mechanisms that let them identify when text should be treated as private, however, they need to be linked. While Chromium comes with a tag called ‘shouldDoLearning’, with which the text can read for pattern learning. On the other hand, Windows 10 comes with an attribute called ‘IS_PRIVATE’, which lets the text to be isolated.

We should mention that the older versions of Windows also don’t come with equivalent protection, which basically means that the private or incognito mode of the browsers do not understand these preferences.

However, with the upcoming change that Microsoft has spoken about, the text that is typed in the private browsing session will be used or retained by the end of the session. Caches of text typed by the user will be dumped along with his browsing history, and cookies, according to the software giant.

Samsung and Apple’s smartphone sales fall in Q1 2019; Huawei takes the second spot: Reports

The first quarter of 2019 saw a number of new trends in the smartphone industry including optical zoom, ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensors, penta-camera setup, various different ways of placing the selfie camera among others. In spite of all these innovations, the global smartphone market plunged down for the sixth quarter in a row. If we speak individually about the top smartphone makers, Samsung maintained its lead in the market even though its share went down marginally. Samsung was followed by Huawei, which saw phenomenal growth in the global smartphone market as compared to last year and Apple took the third position. It is worth noticing that the Cupertino-based technology giant lost the No. 2 position to Huawei this year.

Two reports from market research firms Counterpoint Research and IDC have surfaced recently and they both show that Huawei has had a monumental first quarter in 2019. According to both the reports the global smartphone shipments of the Chinese smartphone brand grew from 11% in Q1 2018 to 17% in the last quarter. This shows that Huawei has grown a lot and according to IDC, a major portion of its success comes from Europe and is also because of the ‘positive momentum’ of the company’s portfolio is all the price brackets. Huawei is also expected to maintain its position throughout 2019.

According to Counterpoint, Samsung shipped 6 million units lesser in Q1 2019 as compared to the same quarter last year. We should mention that this has happened in spite of the fact that Galaxy S10 series has better sales as compared to smartphones in the Galaxy S9 series. During its earnings call, the South Korean technology giant reported that it made a decent profit. However, the company saw a decline in the overall revenue because of stiff competition in the budget and mid-range segments. The market shares of the company fell only by 1%.

Coming to Apple, it sold 20% fewer iPhones in Q1 2019 as compared to its sales a year back, according to Counterpoint. IDC, on the other hand, said that there was a 30% drop in shipments. The reason for the decline is said to be the longer upgrade cycles for iPhone users. While Counterpoint has said that Apple’s market share has gone down from 14% to 12%, IDC says it has decreased from 16% to 12%.

Vivo has emerged as another brand that has grown according to both the reports. The shipments of the smartphone brand went up by 25% in Q1 2019 as compared to last year. The reports were not on the same page as far as Oppo goes. While Counterpoint says that Oppo‘s shipments grew by 10%, IDC reported a decline of 6%.

Samsung Galaxy A10, Galaxy A20 and Galaxy A30 receive a price cut in India

0

Samsung had launched its Galaxy A-series handsets this year to target each price segment in the smartphone market. Firstly, the company had released the Samsung Galaxy A10, Galaxy A20 and the Galaxy A30 earlier this year and all the smartphones targeted different price segments. But now, according to the company, all the above mentioned Galaxy A-series devices are getting a price cut. Samsung Galaxy A10, Galaxy A20 and the Galaxy A30 will now be available at a new price on company’s official website along with Amazon and other retail brick and mortar stores across the country. All the new Galaxy A-series devices are newly launched and this is the first time they are getting an official price cut off of their original prices.

According to the new prices listed on Samsung Online Shop and Amazon, the price of all the Galaxy A-series devices have gotten around Rs 1,500 off of their original prices. Samsung Galaxy A10 which earlier held a price tag of Rs 8,490 is now selling at Rs 7,990 while the Galaxy A20 whose original price was Rs 12,490 is now being sold at Rs 11,490. And lastly, Samsung Galaxy A30, which was launched at Rs 16,990 will be sold at Rs 15,490.

It should be noted that the price of these smartphones dropped a day after Samsung Galaxy A70 went on its first live sale in India. It is worth noticing that Samsung Galaxy A50 which was launched at Rs 19,990 is also now listed at Rs 19,750. The new price cuts on the budget and mid-range segment of the Galaxy A-series might be because of the recent smartphone launches from the Chinese brands like Xiaomi and Realme.

To survive in the market, Samsung had to reduce its prices or the other manufacturers might have taken over the market. The Galaxy A10 and the Galaxy A30 was launched in March 2019 while the Galaxy A20 was brought in April in the country.

Talking about the specifications, we see that Samsung Galaxy A10 sports a 6.2-inch HD+ (720 x 1520 pixels) screen and is powered by an octa-core Exynos 7884 SoC. It comes with 2GB of RAM on its base variant and it packs a 3,400mAh battery. The Galaxy A10 comes with a single 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera.

On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy A20 sports a 6.4-inch HD+ (720 x 1560 pixels) screen and is powered by an octa-core Exynos 7884 SoC. It comes with 3GB of RAM as its base variant and it packs a 4,000mAh battery. Unlike Samsung Galaxy A10, the Galaxy A20 comes with a dual-rear camera setup with an 8MP selfie camera.

Lastly, Samsung Galaxy A30 sports a 6.4-inch full-HD+ (1080 x 2340 pixels) Super AMOLED Infinity-U Display and is powered by an octa-core Exynos 7904 SoC. It comes with 4GB RAM as its base variant and it packs a 4,000mAh battery. Similar to the Galaxy A20, it also packs a dual-rear camera setup with a 5MP selfie camera.

The much-awaited OnePlus 7 Pro will be launching on May 14 but it is not the only flagship being launched this month as there is another company which will also be unveiling its own flagship smartphone. Taiwanese electronics maker Asus is set to launch its upcoming flagship smartphone –  the Asus Zenfone 6 on May 16. The dates have been revealed by Asus itself and the company has also teased about the device on the social media. Asus on its Twitter account posted a teaser image of its upcoming Zenfone 6 along with the launch date and time.

The teaser image holds a caption “Defy Ordinary” which hints at the unique and distinctive design the smartphone might have. Other than that, the image also shows the silhouette of the Zenfone 6 with its no-notch and a bezel-less display. The image also mentions the date (May 16) and the time (20:00 CEST or 11:30pm IST) of the launch. The launch event will take place in Valencia, Spain.

Earlier, some images and renders of the smartphone were leaked which showed a dual-slider design of the Zenfone 6. According to the renders, the Zenfone 6 will come with dual-rear and front cameras. There is a possibility that this design will feature in the 5G variant of the Zenfone 6.  Although the teased image does show the device in a shadow, it doesn’t reveal any specifications or any major key feature of the Zenfone 6. But it is certain that the smartphone will be a successor to the 2018’s Zenfone 5Z.

Asus Zenfone 6 specifications (rumoured)

In April, the smartphone had surfaced on the US Federal Communications Commissions (FCC) website. The website listed out that the Zenfone 6 will be powered by the Snapdragon 855 SoC and will feature a dual-rear camera setup with a horizontal alignment.

Other than that, the device was also spotted on the AnTuTu listing and according to it, the Zenfone 6 will run Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box skinned with ZenUI. It is expected to pack a 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage as a base variant. The display of the device will reportedly be a Full-HD+ (1080 x 2340 pixels) display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9.

It should be noted that all the specifications mentioned here are based on leaks, listings and rumours so it is liable to change and it should be taken with a pinch of salt. Other details about the Zenfone 6 will be revealed on the day of its official launch.

In response to this, Xiaomi said that it is working with Epic Games and Qualcomm to get support Fortnite to Redmi Note 7 Pro. The company also announced earlier this week that Redmi Note 7 Pro now has support for the game, so now, the competition between the two smartphones is even more intense.

Huawei becomes the most-selling smartphone brand in China, leaves Apple behind

0

Apple is one of the best-selling and a premium smartphone brand across the globe and Huawei is a company which is banned in the US but is still trying to become the No.1 in the world. And Huawei has managed to do this at least in its home country. In China, Apple is overlooked and Huawei has become the most successful smartphone company. Huawei is outperforming Apple in its home country and is selling more than four times the smartphones as compared to the Cupertino-based technology giant.

According to a report by a market research firm Canalys, Huawei has dominated the Chinese smartphone market in the first three months of 2019. In the first quarter, Huawei has 34% market share while the other companies such as Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi or Apple struggled to find solid ground. And Huawei is the only major smartphone market in the country that managed to grow in China’s declining smartphone market.

The report states that the company shipped around 30 million smartphones in the first quarter of 2019. This number is 41% more than the first quarter of 2018. While Apple struggled and it shipped around 6.5 million smartphones with a decrease in 30%, which is the worst the company has faced in the last two years.

We should point out that Apple’s smartphone business is struggling in some other parts of the world too. The company, in its first quarter report of 2019, said that its sales fell 17% from last year. The report also said that this is the largest quarter decline for the company. While for Huawei, the quarter was the strongest it has ever been.

Mo Jia, the analyst from Canalys said that the company has also opened more stores in the last couple of years. The stores have made it a trusted company among buyers and it has also gained new customers from other Chinese companies as well. Huawei launches smartphones in the mid-range to and premium segments, unlike Apple that only caters to the high-end market.

As mentioned earlier, the smartphone market of China is suffering and it has been the worst in six years. The shipments have declined by 3% to 88 million phones. But still, Huawei is doing well in the Chinese market and on a worldwide scale, the Chinese company is right behind Samsung to become the world’s largest smartphone maker.

Google brings swipeable ‘Tiles’ for its Wear OS, will arrive next month to the smartwatches

Google’s Wear OS is an UI for the smart wearables and since the start of 2019, we have seen multiple smart watches being launched by different companies. There is no doubt that the future will be filled with smart watches and smart wearables and for that, Google’s OS will be one primary ingredient. Google earlier introduced the quick swipeable widgets on its Wear OS in August 2018. The swipeable feature provided its users much convenience as with just a simple swipe they can access notifications and other information on their smart watches.

And now, the California-based search giant has launched Tiles, a new swipe based information interface. These Tiles are widgets for the Wear OS which provides quick access for the upcoming events, headlines, information and weather forecasts. It also offers many new features and tools to the Wear OS. The search giant has announced 6 Tiles for the Wear OS which can be checked by swiping left on the home page of the smart watches that come with Google’s OS.

This information was revealed by Google through a blog post where it introduced the six Tiles – Goals, Next event, Forecast, Heart rate, Headlines, and Timer. The Tiles do what their names suggests – the Next Event tile will show the upcoming event of the user while the Forecast Tile will show the weather information. The Heart Rate will display the user’s heartrate while the Timer will start a countdown timer. The Headlines Tile will show the current news headlines and the Goal Tile can be used to check the health and fitness goals the user has pre-saved.

The Tiles can be chosen by swiping left and tapping on the desired tile. The user can also select the order in which the Tiles will appear in their smart watch powered by Google’s Wear OS. For adjusting the order of the Tiles, the user can long press and move the tile to their desired location. The users also have the option to change the Tile order through his smartphone.

These are the best upcoming Sci-Fi movies we can’t wait to watch

Marvel’s Avengers saga has finally come to an epic conclusion and although it would seem as if the next superhero or sci-fi movie is months away, it isn’t. There are lots of movies scheduled to be released this year and some of them have already been launched on the silver screen, like Shazam. But as they say ‘there is more out there’. Here, we have made a list of some of the best sci-fi and superhero movies which will be releasing in this quarter. So, in no specific order, here’s the list:

  1. Godzilla: King of Monsters

Godzilla: King of Monsters
Godzilla: King of Monsters

The Kaiju saga continues with Godzilla: King of Monsters. And this movie will probably be more action-packed than its last one. As in this we will get to see some of the most impressive and dangerous-looking monsters till now. Produced by Warner Bros, it will release on 29th May, 2019. The trailer shows that this time there will be 17 monsters in the film, one of them rises from a volcano, while another from an ocean and another from underground. And maybe we will get to see the epic and much awaited battle between Godzilla and King Gidorah. It might just be a theory but the winner of battle will be crowned the King of Monsters. We (without a doubt) are rooting for our spiky boi.

2. X-Men: Dark Phoenix

X-Men
X-Men Dark Phoenix

Continuing the X-Men saga, Dark Phoenix will be the next film in the new X-Men universe. Produced by Marvel Studios, 20th Century Fox with music given by none other than Hans Zimmer himself, it will be a spectacle. After the end of Avengers, X-Men might be the next film, which could make it big in the Marvel Universe. In it we will see star-filled cast such as Sophie Turner, Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, to name a few. The story will follow Jean Grey and we will see how she evolves to become the comic iconic Dark Phoenix, the most powerful mutant ever.

3. Men in Black: International

MiB
MiB International

Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones left some big shoes to fill in the Men in Black Universe. But the new trailer shows that Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson might fill them up, partially. The MIB International is produced by Sony Pictures and Columbia Pictures and will release on June 13. The trailer shows that the new movie too can meet the action and laughter level of the old ones and it is packed with much action as well. However, does it deliver and how close it comes to the original MiB will be seen once it hits the theatres. Also, Liam Neeson will be in the movie as well along with some of the fan-favourite aliens from the original MiB. So action and fun is surely guaranteed.

4. Brightburn

Brightburn

A horror take on the Superman chronicles, the trailer shows what would happen if the Man of Steel wasn’t the self-righteous and a ‘big fan of justice’? What would happen if someone used that power for something other than the protection of the world and its people? What would happen if the boy from space would use his powers to hurt and hunt people? That’s what James Gunn, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy wants people to know. Brightburn will hit the theatres on May 23 and then we will see how a sinister villain is made and how he uses his superpowers. The trailer of the film surely does a good job of scaring its viewers and it also shows what goes through the head of the super-powered villain child. And instead of donning the cape and the suit, the child dons the cape and a mask, which would give the Scarecrow run for his money.

5. Spiderman: Far From Home

Spiderman: Far From Home

After the events of the Avengers: Endgame, Peter is seen relaxing with his friends on a vacation to Europe. How it led to this and what happened after the Endgame might be revealed in the movie, maybe. The cinema will be directed by none other than Kevin Feige, and although the film will be releasing in July 2019,we are still putting it on this list. The trailer already shows what the friendly neighbourhood Spiderman (Tom Holland) is up against, but it also shows the fan-favourite Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). Who might be the main villain or might be on our hero’s side? We will come to know soon. The trailer doesn’t mention Tony Stark but it does shows Happy Hogan and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson).

6. Detective Pikachu

Detective Pikachu

Produced by Warner Bros. this movie is the live-action take on the ever-popular and classic Pokémon Universe. It will release in May of 2019 and it will be one funny and action-packed cinematic masterpiece. In the movie, we see a talking Pikachu voice by none other than Deadpool’s star Ryan Reynolds. The trailer shows a young man with name Tim goes on a search to find his mysteriously missing father Harry Goodman. But he won’t be going alone as he will be getting a pocket monster buddy tagging along with him, Pikachu. The Pokémon itself is searching for something and together they go on an adventure in a world which co-exists (with Pokémon and humans). The trailer also shows some of the widely known and popular Pokémon characters such as Charizard, Onyx, Evee, Jigglypuff, Mr. Mime, Meowth and the legendary Mewtwo.

Huawei to introduce the world’s first 5G enabled 8K TV in 2019: Report

0

Huawei and Samsung are known to be competitors. It now seems like their rivalry is going to get more intense, and this time it would not be to take a lead in the smartphone industry. It has been reported that the company is working on a new TV that will come with an 8K display and built-in 5G connectivity. This will be the first time that the world will see a television that completely eliminates the need for a cable box or an internet connection.

The Chinese smartphone brand plans to introduce the new television as soon as this year, according to a report in Nikkei. We should mention that Huawei is really trying to do this the Samsung-way. Much like Samsung has not limited itself to just smartphones, Huawei is trying to expand its range of devices. We would not be surprised if the company starts providing an entire ecosystem of products, much like Samsung.

It is no secret that Huawei wants to replace Samsung as the top smartphone maker in the world. And coming out with an 8K 5G TV just goes to show that Huawei is serious about its rivalry and the competition between the two companies isn’t just limited to smartphones.

We should also mention that the news of this TV comes at a time when the company’s smartphone business is growing stronger by the day in spite of its tensions that are going on with the US. According to research firms IDC and Strategy Analytics, Huawei is gaining ground while shipment numbers of Apple and Samsung are slipping.

Currently, Samsung is not only the leading in terms of smartphone shipments, but it is also the biggest TV manufacturer in the world. The South Korean technology giant also started shipping an 8K TV which is priced at $4,999. However, the offering by Samsung does not come with 5G connectivity.

Speaking of 8K TVs, according to research firm IHS Markit, shipments of 8K TVs will go up from 430,000 in 2019 to 2 million in 2020. Although Huawei has carved a place for itself among the top smartphone companies in the world, manufacturing TVs is a different game altogether, and that too a much tougher one.

And it is also worth adding that both 8K and 5G technologies are still very new, so making them work seamlessly in TV will prove to be tough too. Some may say that Huawei is being too ambitious, but we personally would love to see an 8K 5G TV as soon as this year.
