Overall, I loved the audio experience on these headphones, they are comfortable to wear. The Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones will not give you any sort of aches (head or neck). With 40mm drivers inside the sound does not crack or distorts even at full volume. Calling feature works flawlessly, too. The battery lasts for over 25 hours on a single charge, but does take its fair bit of time to recharge. Sony has enabled fast charge on these headphones, where users can get up to 5 hours of playback time with a charge of 30 minutes. But that can happen only by using a compatible fast charger.
Sadly, the charger is not part of the package one would need to buy it separately. That is the only downer I came across on this device. All in all, Sony you have outdone yourself and I for one loved these. They are definitely one of best headphones right now in the premium side of the audio market. If you have the money to spend and are looking for futuristic sound and controls, go for them without a doubt.
OnePlus is doing a partnership with Amazon India. It is slowly ceasing to be just a mobile company. In an interview that appeared India Today they announced that they will launch their first TV in 2019. They also mentioned that they doing a trade-in-program. So, the users can upgrade their phones at an affordable price.
The date of this partnership hasn’t yet been declared. But one thing is certain—it will allow users to upgrade their OnePlus phones easily. It is similar to the current trade-in-offer, where one sends their device and gets credits in return for buying a new smartphone. You would probably send your smartphones to Amazon now that this partnership has commenced. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to trade-in any flagship smartphone.
The trade-in in program might not just start with OnePlus 6T. The report is not very clear on it. According to some sources the program might start with OnePlus 7, when it gets launched next year. Whatever the case maybe, the program seems to be starting very soon. With which model, is yet to be known. We for one would want it to start with OnePlus 6T and continue with the other models that get launched afterwards.
To recall, the OnePlus 6T smartphone, which is based on Android 9.0 Pie has a 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED display. This is laced with a waterdrop notch on the top. It has a 3,700mAh battery, 16MP + 20MP dual rear cameras and a 20MP selfie camera. Also, OnePlus 6T comes with a Nightscape mode, improved low-light photography and enhanced colour reproduction, and dynamic range. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and is available with 6GB or 8GB RAM and 128GB or 256GB storage.
Another good news is that this Chinese smartphone maker is set to launch the OnePlus 6T McLaren edition on December 12.
The McLaren edition would also be an Amazon exclusive and it has gone live on Amazon India’s website with a ‘Notify Me’ button. The technical specifications of the Mclaren edition will be the same as the regular edition. The only change one would see will be on the outside. Before this, the company has already launched couple of limited editions of their previous generation of smartphones. One of the more popular ones was ‘The Avengers’ edition and the ‘Star Wars’ version.

Epic Games, which has developed titles like Unreal Tournament, Gears of War and Fortnite will be launching its own online game store. Developers will be able to use this online game store to sell their games.
At first, Epic Games’ online game store would only be available on PC and Mac. However, it will also be made available to Android and other ‘open platforms’ in 2019.
It has been reported that the concept of the upcoming store will be on the same lines as Valve’s Steam and EA’s Origin. The game store by Epic Games will come with a list of curated titles from different developers.
But the reason why developers may be attracted to use Epic Games’ online store is that the company will take a lesser cut than others.
Most other platforms take 30% of the revenue from the total sales of each title. This includes the purchase fee as well as the in-app purchases that are made by the customers. It was because of this that Epic Games launched Fortnite on Android via its own website.
With its own game store, Epic Games will only take 12% of the revenue from developers, which means better earnings for them. In addition to this, if Epic’s Unreal Engine is used by the title, then the company will cover 5% of the royalty for using the engine.
Other features that will be offered to developers include a newsfeed using which they can communicate with their customers and a special creators program. Using this program, content creators such as YouTubers or Twitch streamers can get a share of the revenue whenever they refer someone to play the game. It is worth noticing that this can only be enabled when developers opt for it, and they also get to decide how much share will go to the content creators.
For the first 24 months, Epic Games will cover the first 5% of creator revenue-sharing.
What makes this even better is the fact that Epic Games has promised that developers will be getting their own game page and newsfeed, which would come without any store-placed ads, cross-marketing or paid ads. Epic Games will also let developers use any game engine and would not be limiting its service to those who use Unreal Engine.
More details about the upcoming game store will be revealed at The Game Awards.

I have been testing Sony’s gadgets since the past decade and a half. There have been highs and lows in Sony’s journey. However, now I would say it is a high point for Sony especially when it comes to audio headsets. They re-strategized a couple of years ago in the headphones segment and now they seem to be on top of their game, with the launch of Sony WH-1000X M3 headphones. These are a great pair of headsets that came to our test bench and left us awestruck. This is our review of the neat wireless headphones.
Sony WH-1000X M3 headphones Design and Blueprint
The headphones that Sony launched in the last few years have been similar to each other in terms of form factor. And at he first glace the Sony WH-1000X M3 headphones look no different. But when you look at them closely, this one is quite different from the others. To start with, this headphone has only two buttons on it, one to power it on and the other to manage the noise cancellation.
So how does one use the other functions like volume up/down et al. Well that is where the new innovation on these headsets come in. The right ear cup is touch sensitive and users can use touch gestures to manage most of the functions. For example, one can swipe from front to back or back to front to skip tracks. Swipe from bottom to top or top to bottom on the ear cup to manage volume. Double tap on the ear cup to play/pause a song or to pick a call. And on most occasions, this works really well, it is just a matter of getting used to.
The Sony WH-1000X M3 headphones are available in two colours — black and silver, which came to us to be tested. Sony has used premium plastics, metal and comfortable foam pads all around this headphone. The ear cups cocoon your ears perfectly and help to keep the ambient noise out. More on that in the performance section of this review. In case one wants to use these headphones with an auxiliary port, they can with the supplied audio cable that comes in the box. In the box I also found a nifty carry case, an airplane connector and since it is wireless, an USB charging cable as well.
Sony WH-1000X M3 headphones Performance
Moving to the more fun part, its listening experience. Sony WH-1000X M3 headphones are very easy to setup. Just download the Sony headphones app from the Play store, turn on the Bluetooth on your smartphone and in matter of minutes you will be up and running. The Bluetooth headphones work with smartphones, laptops as well as other mobile devices. Connecting them with a laptop is also child’s play.
The headphones app is nicely built and features things like an equaliser and virtual surround sound function. These come handy when you are listening to different genres of music or are watching a movie on the smart device. Moving on to its resonance, Sony did a fabulous job building the Sony WH-1000X M3 headphones. I loved the beats it threw at us, bass is spunky and the lows are clearly audible.
Noise cancellation works extremely well and there are three modes of it on the headphones. One of them is that the headphones will let a bit of ambient sound, like important announcements at the airport, come in. The ambient sound can also be managed via the app, too. The Sony WH-1000X M3 headphones are a smart set of headphones, these automatically adjust to changing environments.
By that I mean the headphones know your surroundings and will adjust the audio mode and sound accordingly. For instance, if you are walking on the road with the headphones on, then it will seep in a bit of ambient sound so that you are aware of the surroundings while listening to your favourite tunes and walking.
Also, when you are traveling in an airplane and the air hostess comes to ask you something, you need not take the headphones off. Instead just place 4 fingers on the right ear cup and automatically you will be able to hear what the person is saying. Quite neat!
Verdict and Final Words
Overall, I loved the audio experience on these headphones, they are comfortable to wear. The Sony WH-1000X M3 headphones will not give you any sort of aches (head or neck).
Price: Rs 29,990
Pro:
Excellent Sound
Futuristic Controls
Comfortable to wear for a long time
Cons:
No charger in the box
Takes a long time to fully charge

Let’s face it we all love music. It quite often happens that we overhear a melody and unconsciously start humming it as we find it soothing. But when we try to recall the song name and want to make it a part of our playlist we might fail. We forget to ask the name of the song when we hear it, which happens often. So how to find a songs name? We can ask our friend who has played it before. But when you don’t even remember the name of the song how is your friend supposed to identify it? By humming? Perhaps no, not when your vocal chords aren’t trained enough. That’s where technology comes in. There are several options through which you can find a songs name through your device. Option 1: One of the most common and widely used website is Google. In case you recall any part of the song’s lyrics, just type it with inverted commas. Once you press ‘Enter’ you’ll most probably find the song. Option 2: Musix Match is another choice. Musix Match is an interesting app which shows you the lyrics of the song which are part of your device. When you play the song and open the app, the lyrics will appear on your screen. If you want to find the song you can type the song lyrics and the name would definitely come. But what if you don’t remember the song lyrics?Don’t worry! This is where Midomi software comes in. In Midomi, in order to find the song, one has to only hum it and the app would identify it. The same goes for Soundhound. Just hum the song and you’ll get your song’s name. The only difference between Midomi and Soundhound is that the former is available in PC/laptop and the latter on the smartphone. Shazam is another interesting app, which immediately identifies the song being played on your device. Shazam is one of the most widely used ones. Musicpedia is another app where you can find your song. This only pertains to classical music. The way it works is that one has to play the song on piano. Provided that it is classical, it would identify the song immediately.

PUBG Mobile has undoubtedly become one among the most popular games of the year. The online multiplayer game for smartphone users recently received its Season 4 update, which made all the players start from scratch. And now, another update has been rolled out to the game. PUBG Mobile publisher Tencent Games has confirmed that the popular game is now getting the beta update on Reddit and also gone ahead to say that it doesn’t bring any major changes with itself. The new additions that PUBG Mobile 0.10.0 beta update gets include Mk47 Mutant rifle and new chat options among other changes. For those unaware, the Mk47 Mutant rifle was earlier available on PUBG PC and Xbox One. But now, smartphone players will also gain access to it.
Besides this, PUBG Mobile 0.10.0 beta update also comes with a new outfit and some bug fixes. The chat option of the game has also been improved with new dialogues that make communication between teammates. In 2016, technology giant Google proudly presented the Duo and Allo apps at its I/O Conference. Google left no stone unturned to market the apps touting Duo’s simple user interface and Allo’s AI enhancements. We tried the apps ourselves. Duo indeed is simple, and Allo’s AI enhancements were actually useful. But somehow, people never migrated to using the two apps instead of WhatsApp and Skype.
It seems like Google has given up hope on Allo, as the company has announced that it is shutting down the app. However, this doesn’t come as a surprise, as the technology giant had paused investing in Allo in April this year. When this happened earlier this year, Anil Sabharwal, Google’s Head of Communications Group was quoted saying that Allo as a whole did not achieve the level of traction the company had hoped for.
If you are an Allo user, you will have time till March 2019 to export their conversation history, since the app will work till then. After that, it will close down.
It is worth noticing that the announcement about Allo shutting down comes at a time when Verizon is set to launch RCS chat on Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XLsmartphones. While Allo’s key highlight was its AI enhancements, RCS chat is said to be carrier based. With RCS chat, Google may get the Android rival to iMessage that it has been looking for. However, RCS chat is a service that wouldn’t be run by the technology company itself.
A few days back, Google denied the reports that claimed that its Hangouts Chat is shutting down. The company clarified that a re-branded version of the Google Hangouts is being designed and it will be available for enterprise users. So, the current Google Hangouts app will be replaced by a service similar to Slack. This also means that if you don’t use Google’s G Suite, you will not have access to this new service. Till now, Google has not addressed this and there is no word on what it plans to do to replace the chat for individual users. However, the company did say that Hangouts Chat and Meet will also be available to existing users at some point.

One among the biggest changes in the smartphone industry that we’ll get to see next year is handsets with 5G connectivity. With Snapdragon 855 with 5G modem getting unveiled, the race for 5G has officially begun. All smartphone makers want to be the first one to launch a 5G enabled device.
And OnePlus is no exception to this. The company has fans and loyalists across the globe and being the first to launch a 5G smartphone will further strengthen its popularity. The company had announced in October this year that it plans to launch a 5G enabled smartphone and later confirmed that it would not be a part of its regular flagship lineup. This led to speculations that a separate lineup for 5G enabled devices – with an inflated price tag – will be launched by OnePlus.
And now, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has made another announcement about the upcoming 5G handset by the company. At the ongoing Qualcomm Snapdragon Technology Summit, Lau announced that OnePlus will be the first company to release a 5G smartphone in Europe, and has partnered with EE for the same.
The release sent by the company also said that OnePlus’ next flagship mobile will be among the first to come with the Snapdragon 855 SoC.
Speaking about the newly launched Snapdragon 855 processor, Lau said, “OnePlus only makes flagship smartphones, and we believe that the Snapdragon 855 is the best and only choice. We are thrilled by its powerful performance and 5G capabilities. “
The news from OnePlus comes just days after Samsung announced its partnership with Verizon to launch a 5G device in the United States next year. Although the South Korean technology giant did not specify the name of its smartphone that will come with 5G capabilities, reports suggest that it will be an ultra-premium variant of the Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphone.
Sometime back, it was reported that Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is the first ever device to come with 5G connectivity, however, we should point out that the Chinese smartphone maker launched the 4G version in October. We will see the 5G model early next year. So, the race for 5G is still on and we are waiting to see who grabs the first spot.

IP address is really important to troubleshoot internet and networking problems. Therefore, one should know the IP address of their device so that they can fix problems. But, many of us don’t know how to find our IP addresses. So here are some guidelines for you to follow. IP, internal or external will be displayed in this format (XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX), where the X’s will be numbers. There are two kinds of IP addresses—internal and external IP address. Internal IP address refers to the one that identifies your local device. The external IP address is what helps the internet to communicate with your device. There are two separate ways of finding both IP addresses. Firstly, let us look at how to find the internal IP Address:
Go to the start menu and type cmd
The computer would show the suggestion of command prompt at this stage: click on it
An HTML file would open in black coloured background wherein you have to type ipconfig and then press enter
A chunk of information will unfold. Scroll down and find “IPv4 address”. The number which is written across it is your internal IP Address
Now let us learn how to find the external IP address or the one which is visible to the internet:
In your internet browser, search for ‘what’s my IP’
A site named www.whatsmyip.org should appear in the suggestions, hopefully on the top
Once you click on the link your IP Address will appear on top of this site.
You can also directly type www.whatsmyip.org in the browser as well and that should show you your external IP address. At times, you might not have to visit the link. Once you search ‘what’s my IP’ on Google it will appear on top of the suggested links. If Mac/Apple users want to find their IP then they can follow the subsequent steps:
Go to Apple Menu and click on Open System Preferences
Click on the icon labelled network
There would be several labels. The one on top needs to be clicked
Towards the right hand side you’ll find a text which would show you your IP Address
As we are coming closer to the launch of Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 Plus smartphones, more and more news about them is surfacing online. It has even been reported that Samsung is planning to launch four instead of the usual two devices in its lineup this year – a Lite version and a 5G model.
And now, 91mobiles in partnership with @OnLeaks has shared the renders of the much anticipated Samsung smartphone. A 360-degree video of the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus has also been shared and the report by 91mobiles also carries some details about the smartphone which it claims are confirmed.
According to the report, Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus will sport a 6.4-inch dual-curved edge display, and we should mention that this is line with previous leaks of the smartphone. The screen of the smartphone is expected to come with an AMOLED panel and will have QHD resolution.
The renders that have been shared show that Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus mobile sports four rear cameras coupled with an LED flash. These cameras are horizontally stacked on the device and reportedly comprise of a standard, a telephoto and a wide-angle lens. The details about the fourth camera have not been shared yet. The front panel of Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus has dual selfie cameras that are placed on the top right corner of the display. In the renders, it looks like they are piercing into the display. At its Developer Conference last month, Samsung has showcased this selfie camera placement and had called it the ‘Infinity O’ design.
With this kind of placement of cameras, we can expect the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus to give us a nearly bezel-less display experience and come with one among the highest screen-to-body ratios. The dimensions of the smartphone are reported to be 157.5 x 75.0 x 7.8mm. The renders show the smartphone to be available in gradient Ice Blue, which the company also used for Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus.
Earlier reports have also confirmed that Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus will come with an ultrasonic in-display smartphone and will be dedicating 30% of its screen to it. So you can place your finger anywhere on that portion of the display and the smartphone will be unlocked. It is also worth noticing that an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor uses sound to read the map of your fingerprint and is more accurate than optical fingerprint scanners used in the likes of Vivo Nex (review) and OnePlus 6T (review).
Prior reports have also suggested that Samsung plans to ditch iris scanning and will come with face unlock instead. Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus has been reported to retain a 3.5mm jack and it will be placed along with the USB Type-C port at the bottom. The SIM card will be placed on the top, much like Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018). The power, volume rocker and Bixby buttons would be placed on the side edges of the smartphone.
Other specifications of the upcoming smartphone include Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor or Exynos 9820 SoC, depending on the market. It should run Android Pie skinned with Samsung’s OneUI and as of now, there is no clarity on the RAM and storage of the device. A report did say that a 12GB RAM and 1TB storage model is in the pipeline, but if this is true, the price tag would be massive too.

Huawei has fixed the date December 17th for the launch of Nova 4. The backdrop of this launch, as it is rumoured, is based on Huawei’s wish to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy A8s launch. Huawei Nova 4’s unique feature is that it has a display hole for the selfie camera. Yes, there will be a small hole in the screen on the top left edge for the front camera. This brand-new model, which includes the latest Kirin 980 SoC, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage is going to release in China first. Huawei Nova 4 has an in-display fingerprint sensor and works on Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box. The company took to Weibo to announce the launch of its upcoming Huawei Nova 4 smartphone.According to leaked renders, Samsung Galaxy A8s would also has a similar feature in terms of camera—a display with a small cut out for the selfie camera. Samsung too is suspected to release its phone during December and in all probability will directly compete with Huawei Nova 4. Two phones competing with each other, having similar design leaves us in a lot of anticipation. Both phones have a similar design. Let us see which proves to be better and in what respect after both of them are launched. While Huawei Nova 4 is launching on 17th December, Samsung Galaxy A8s is launching on 10th December.Huawei has also put a teaser image. In this, we can see Huawei Nova 4 has a striking resemblance to the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10, if we go by its leaked renders, too. One difference is that Samsung’s front facing camera is supposed to be built on the top right side, and in case of Huawei Nova 4 it would appear in the top left-hand side. With the launch of Huawei Nova 4 the company would be expecting good demand for the smartphone. Considering that it has a notchless camera, which a lot of users would be looking forward to. If the feature turns out to be a huge hit, it might even beat some of the biggest names in the market. South Korean technology giant Samsung has confirmed that date of its Galaxy A8s smartphone’s launch. If you have been following updates about Samsung Galaxy A8s, you would know that the smartphone is the first one in Samsung’s lineup to come with a display hole for housing a selfie camera. The company will be doing this in order to deliver a full-screen experience to users.
Samsung has taken to Weibo to announce that its upcoming Galaxy A8s smartphone would be launched on December 10. The poster highlights the outline of the device and a camera hole on the top left of its display. With Samsung Galaxy A8s, the company will truly give a bezel-less experience to its users as in the poster, no notch or chin of the display can be seen. Samsung had spoken about such a display at its developer conference last month and it calls this kind of a screen as an Infinity-O display.
However, there is one thing that we must point out. Samsung has announced the release date of Galaxy A8s smartphone just after Huawei set the launch date of its Nova 4 smartphone as December 17. It actually seems like Samsung was just waiting for Huawei to announce a launch date so that they could choose an earlier date for the launch of their device. This is because Huawei Nova 4 also comes with a display hole to house the selfie camera. If Huawei Nova 4 would have launched earlier, the company would literally have beaten Samsung in its own game. And clearly, Samsung did what it had to in order to avoid that.
The rivalry between the two smartphones is evident from the images that have been shared by the two companies on Weibo. Samsung’s poster looks completely inspired from Huawei’s which also shows an outline of the device and a cut-out selfie camera on the top left of the display. The background of both the posters is an image of a galaxy. However, it seemed like Samsung did not want to leave any stone unturned to mock Huawei, as its poster has ‘Real Galaxy’ written on it.
Speaking more about the specifications of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy A8s mobile, it will reportedly feature a 6.39-inch full-HD+ display that will come with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The device is said to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor clubbed with 6GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage. For more storage, users will get the option of installing a microSD card of up to 512GB.
Reports suggest that Samsung Galaxy A8s will come with a triple rear camera setup comprising of 24MP, 5MP and 10MP sensors. For selfies and video calls, there is a 24MP front-facing camera that will be housed in the display hole at the top left of the screen. The hole on the display is said to be 6.7mm. It has been speculated that Samsung Galaxy A8s will house a 3,400mAh battery and will come with a USB Type-C port. A previous report also said that Samsung is ditching the 3.5mm headphone jack with its A8s smartphone.

Early next year, Whatsapp is finally going to release its dark mode version. The only difference in this coveted version compared to its earlier one is in terms of its looks. In Dark Mode, the white background can be converted into black. The benefit of this is that it decreases 43% of your phone’s brightness compared to “Normal Mode”. As a result, it increases battery life and is less harmful for the eyes. Some reports suggest, it is going to be very safe and healthy to look at your screen in the dark. The Dark Mode was first announced in September via a tweet, which was treated as a rumour. Its visual representation is unknown as of now. We are eagerly waiting for it to release. Even Google applications such as YouTube and Google Maps have commended the new dark mode in its respective apps. Its look is supposed to be similar to Whatsapp’s UI on Windows OS smartphones. According to a recent tweet by WABetainfo, the Dark Mode is still under development. Besides Android, it will also find its way to Windows 10 PCs, notebooks, Apple iPhones with iOS 10 and Mac. Once it is out let us see how well it can live up to the user’s expectations. Over that, Facebook is also planning to release its Dark Mode very soon.
I receive a lot of questions about the Dark Mode.. It's still under development and there is no news now, be patient please. When there is news on iOS and Android, you will obviously receive more info from me, don’t worry. 😊
In case you want to use dark mode-like setup right now, follow these steps:
Launch Whatsapp and tap on the three dots menu (you can find them on the right-hand corner of your phone)
Tap on settings
Then tap on chats
Scroll down until you find the wallpaper option and then click on it
Select the solid colour option
Then select a dark colour of your choice for your chat background
Click the set button and your dark mode will start functioning
The dark mode is going to prove very useful for its users considering that it is comforting to the eyes and saves battery life by reducing brightness. Initially what was a rumour on the basis of a tweet proved to be true, eventually. Now users don’t have to worry about their eyes getting strained when they use the screen in a dark room. Well now at least, with the dark mode coming in, the late night Whatsapp exchanges with friends will not be that strenuous.

The software giant, Microsoft which released its Edge Browser, with a redesign to replace Internet Explorer is finally letting go of it and making a new default browser — Chromium. The reason being, though Edge Browser has paid off with it’s modern look and feel, the underlying browser engine—EdgeHTML has not been able to keep up with the current demand. There has been a lot of frustration in Microsoft with regard to Edge’s web compatibility, despite businesses and consumers trying to improve upon things. According to reports, Microsoft is almost ready with its new browser and in all probability will announce its plan for the launch of its new browser in the coming days. Chrome is, in today’s time, the most popular web browser. Many including us love to work on it because of its minimalistic outlook. Android, PCs and Macs has leveraged its usage. However, lately the Google Chrome browser has become memory hog. Nevertheless, web developers most often find it useful to optimize their sites. Google has been creating Chrome-only web services because it is usually the first to adopt web technologies as its engineers are the first to adapt to most modern web standards.Microsoft was susceptibly about to adopt Chromium onto Windows. As its companies have been working with Google to support a version of Chrome on an ARM-powered Windows operating system. It has finally admitted Edge Browser’s incompetency to Chrome.Unlike earlier, now Microsoft would not send notifications to its Windows 10 users to not to use Chrome. Microsoft pulled Google Chrome’s installer from Windows Store because it violated store policies. Those policies restricted rival store browsers to use Microsoft’s Edge Browser. After this event, Microsoft’s rivalry with Chrome will finally come to an end. With this new innovation Microsoft would want to regain lost popularity when it comes to internet browsers. Today, Google Chrome is way ahead of the competition and is one of the most popular browsers on the PC as well as mobile platform. Will Microsoft be able to regain lost ground? Only time will tell.

Chipmaker Qualcomm has unveiled its Snapdragon 855 mobile platform, which is the first among a new generation of smartphone processors that will support 5G connectivity in the United States next year. Snapdragon 855 chip has been launched by the company at an event in Hawaii and its key feature is the 5G Snapdragon X50 modem. This will enable smartphones to connect to 5G wireless data networks at ‘multi-gigabit’ mobile data speeds that is claimed to be up to 50 or 100 times faster than the speed that we get on the current 4G networks.
The latest processor from the biggest chipmaker in the world will power the Samsung 5G smartphone, which will be launched in H1 2019, as announced by Samsung and Verizon Communications. It is worth noticing that as of now, Qualcomm has only announced the Snapdragon 855. It will be talking in detail about it later at its ongoing annual Snapdragon Technology Summit.
But there are things that have already been revealed like Snapdragon 855 is said to come with Qualcomm’s fourth generation, multi-core Qualcomm AI Engine that boosts the AI performance of the device up to three times as compared to smartphones that run on the previous generation mobile platform.
Qualcomm has also said that its mobile platform Snapdragon 855 features the world’s first Computer Vision (CV) ISP that helps smartphones to recognise objects and faces better and it also powers new video capture features.
Qualcomm went on to say that Snapdragon 855 would support the new Qualcomm 3D Sonic Sensor, which is an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor by Qualcomm and can rear user’s fingerprint through the glass screen of a smartphone.
If we quote Qualcomm’s blog post about this particular feature, it said, “This is the only mobile solution that can accurately detect fingerprints through numerous contaminants. Furthermore, this technology enables sleek, cutting-edge form factors while distinguishing itself from alternatives with higher levels of security and accuracy.”
The 5G smartphone by Samsung would be a major setback for Apple, which will reportedly only launch a 5G enabled iPhone in 2020. Samsung happens to be Apple‘s biggest rival in the premium smartphone segment globally and considering the Cupertino based technology giant is locked in a legal battle with Qualcomm, it obviously wouldn’t be using its processor chips. If no other solution comes up, Apple would indeed have to be a year late in launching a 5G iPhone.
While we are waiting for more details on Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 mobile platform, we know for sure that it will be used in most major flagship devices in 2019.
