OnePlus Watch gets listed on IMDA certification, tipped to launch soon: Report

After doing well in the Smart Televisions category, now OnePlus is going to foray into the smartwatch business also. The company will launch its first smartwatch soon which is expected to be called OnePlus Watch. According to a report recently the wearable was spotted on the IMDA website which is an Indonesian regulatory. The device has appeared with a model number W201GB. As it has now received the certification, possibly the OnePlus Smartwatch will hit the shelves soon.

OnePlus is prepping up to foray into the smartwatch segment. A report has appeared on the internet claiming the Smartwatch has been certified by Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA). On the website, the device was spotted with its marketing name “OnePlus Watch”. It has been listed under the “Wearable Watch” category with model number W301GB. However, the information about the company’s upcoming offering is very scarce. But in the coming weeks or so we will get to see more information related to its software or design.

If these reports are to be believed then OnePlus Watch will be competing against Apple Watch and Galaxy Watch 3 from Samsung. Where Apple has delayed the launch of its next-gen iPhones due to the pandemic OnePlus is going ahead with some of the major announcements this year. Until now it has timely rolled out the OnePlus 8 Series and yes, the company’s most affordable offering OnePlus Nord. And we are pretty much sure that the Watch will soon make it to the markets in the coming months.

Well, this is not the first time we are hearing about the OnePlus smartwatch. Way back in the year 2016 the company has accepted developing its smartwatch. Interestingly even its co-founder Carl Pei has shared the sketches of the smartwatch they are working on. The sketches have revealed a round dial but the company’s plan never took off.

However, the upcoming OnePlus Watch will arrive with Google Wear OS operating system as all the OnePlus devices run on Google’s Android Operating system. The device is most likely to arrive by the end of this year. Though all these are speculation and it has risen after the launch of Oppo watch by its sister company, so you should take the information with a pinch of salt.

Amazon Halo band and companion app introduced for tech freaks

0

In what seems to be a competition with Apple and Fitbit, Amazon has now introduced its Amazon Halo band and companion app for tech freaks to help them improve their health and wellness. Members can access a suite of AI-powered features through the Amazon Halo app, powered by the comfortable, innovative Amazon Halo Band. Monitor activity and sleep, analyze the user’s body composition and tone of voice and discover healthy habits that work for them. Halo is available via early access for US customers.

“Halo is a new service designed to help you continually improve your individual health and wellness through better understanding it. That means we provide not just useful information, but also ways to put that information into action. Halo takes activity and sleep tracking a step further, plus introduces innovative new tools like body composition measurement, tone of voice analysis, and expert-backed habit labs,” said Melissa Cha, Vice President of Amazon Halo.

Amazon applied its long-term expertise in computer vision (CV) and machine learning (ML) towards developing “Body,” a feature within Amazon Halo, the new health and wellness membership. With Body, the users can easily measure and track their BFP from the comfort and privacy of their own home, using only the smartphone’s camera and the Amazon Halo app. The body is powered by artificial intelligence (AI) developed by the CV and ML team and includes a suite of algorithms that can generate their personalized 3D body model, BFP, and body model slider, a vision of how the body could change as the users gain or lose body fat.

The BFP measurement in Amazon Halo is as accurate as methods a doctor would use and nearly twice as accurate as leading at-home smart scales. So, if you’re used to getting your BFP from a smart scale, you should expect to see a difference. We tested accuracy using Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) which is considered the clinical gold standard for body composition and widely used, but these machines would require a doctor’s prescription.

Whether the bathroom or bedroom, the users can take a body scan wherever they are most comfortable. They will need to wear tight, minimal clothing, tie up your hair, and keep about 4-6 feet of space between themselves and their phone. Once ready, the Amazon Halo app shows you exactly how to stand and guides you through taking four scan images—front, back, and each side.

“In seconds, you’ll see your personalized 3D body model, BFP, and body model slider in the Amazon Halo app. It’s that simple! The model gives you a 3D view of your body at the time of that scan. Amazon Halo helps you understand where your BFP stands in relation to people of the same sex and age, and the slider can help you visualize how your body could change as you gain or lose body fat. Keeping the conditions consistent between scans will help achieve the best result. It takes time for your body fat to change. We recommend taking scans every 2 weeks and observe trends over a longer duration to track progress. We were excited to pilot the Body feature with WW members—more than 80 percent said it was a useful or motivational tool in their journey,” an Amazon blog post revealed.

Amazon further added that health is inherently personal, and taking photographic scans of your body is about as private as it gets. This is the reason why Amazon Halo and Body were built with privacy in mind. The body scan images are automatically deleted from the cloud after processing. After that, the images and resulting personalized 3D body models are only stored locally on your phone. This means no one but you ever sees them unless you choose to share them with a friend or coach. And, of course, you can download or delete your Body data any time through the Settings tab in the Amazon Halo app that comes with Amazon Halo Band.

Furthermore, you can also opt-into storing your Body scan images in the secure Amazon cloud. The users can opt back out any time directly from the Amazon Halo app and the images will automatically be deleted from the cloud.

Google Duo soon introducing a Beta on Android TV

0

In a bid to make video calling your friends and family better, Google Duo has now announced that it is rolling out a Beta on Android TV in the coming weeks. With Google Duo, the tech giant revealed that you can initiate one-on-one and group calls from your TV, and if your TV doesn’t have a camera built-in, you can simply plug in a USB camera.

Besides Google Duo, Google Meet on Cast can help you turn any room in your house into your own personal conference room, taking advantage of your TV or a Smart Display. “Whether you want to step away from the notifications on your laptop or phone to be more present in a meeting or you are on mute in a larger meeting and want to concentrate on your task at hand, casting to your TV can help you be more productive and stay focused,” said TJ Varghese, Group Product Manager, Google Meet hardware.

The blog post further added that Meet and Cast can also work together to simplify distance learning. Students can view their classmates and lesson plans on the big screen while working from their laptops, and teachers can get a broader view of their students on a call.

In order to get started, all you need is to have a Google account, update to the latest version of Chrome and ensure that your Chromecast device has the latest firmware installed. Google Cast functionality is available for all Meet users, and casting works on Chromecast, TVs with built-in Chromecasts and Nest displays.

Apart from TVs, Duo and Meet also work seamlessly with Nest Hub Max. The Google blog post added that you can simply say “Hey Google, join my next meeting” or “Hey Google, start a group call” and jump right into the video hands free, staying productive from a separate device on your desk.

With the Acer Chromebase and ASUS Remote Meet Kit from Google Meet hardware, the users can elevate their work-from-home space into a dedicated home office. Google Meet hardware syncs automatically with Google Calendar so they can join meetings with a single touch, and is built on Chrome OS which brings over-the-air updates, peripheral support and advanced management capabilities. This frees up the laptop for more immersive meetings.

Video calls aren’t going anywhere. But with new developments from Meet + Cast, Duo, Android TV, Nest Hub Max and Google Meet hardware, they can be a little more enjoyable.

At the end of your session, you will see an EDA response graph on-device and in the mobile app to gauge your progress over time and reflect on how you feel emotionally. Fitbit’s new Stress Management Score calculates how your body is responding to stress based on your heart rate, sleep and activity level data.

Simply hold your fingers on the corners of the stainless steel ring around the watch while being still for 30 seconds to receive a reading that can be downloaded to share with your doctor.  Moreover, Fitbit Sense can detect and send a notification if your heart rate is outside your thresholds with 24/7 continuous heart rate tracking.

Furthermore, Fitbit Sense adds a new skin temperature sensor to detect changes to your wellbeing that may potentially be a sign of a fever, illness or the start of a new menstrual phase. Wearing your device when you’re asleep each night lets you regularly measure your skin temperature variation.

Microsoft now adds Hindi and English (India) to Neural Text-to-Speech service

0

In order to empower people wherever they are to access information easily, Microsoft has announced the addition of English (India) and Hindi to its Neural Text to Speech (Neural TTS) service language set. According to the company, these two Indian languages are among the 15 new dialects added to the service enabled with state-of-the-art AI audio quality.

For those who are unaware what Neural TTS is all about? Well, it is a part of the Azure Cognitive Services and converts text to lifelike speech for a more natural interface. The service also provides customizable voices, fine-tuned auto control and flexible deployment from cloud to edge.

“Our text-to-speech services have played a key role in democratizing information reach and empowering people and organizations. Through the inclusion of English (India) and Hindi in Neural TTS, we are demonstrating our continued commitment to refining speech and voice-based services for personal and business use in India. We will continue to drive further advancements in speech services to empower people wherever they are to access information easily,” said Sundar Srinivasan, General Manager, Microsoft India (R&D) Pvt. Ltd.

Neural TTS significantly reduces listening fatigue when users are interacting with AI systems with natural-sounding speech that matches the stress patterns and intonation of human voices. This makes the service ideal for developing interfaces to communicate with the customers.

Microsoft, in a blog post, revealed that organizations across sectors like telecom, media, and entertainment, retail, manufacturing, and product/ service development are using Neural TTS. Udaan, India’s largest online business-to-business (B2B) marketplace, is using Text to Speech in Azure to develop conversational interfaces for their voice assistants.

While Microsoft’s Neural TTS can be used to make interactions with chatbots and virtual assistants more natural and engaging, it is also being used to convert digital texts such as e-books into audiobooks and being deployed for in-car navigation systems.

The Neural TTS service by Microsoft enables human-like natural and clear articulation and uses deep neural networks to overcome the limits of traditional text-to-speech systems in matching the patterns of stress and pitch in spoken language.

Microsoft further added that the other new languages introduced are Arabic (Egypt and Saudi Arabia), Danish, Finnish, Catalan, Polish, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian, Thai, Swedish, and Chinese (Cantonese Traditional and Taiwanese Mandarin). Up until now, Microsoft TTS supports 110 voices and over 45 languages and variants.
