Xiaomi launched MIUI 12 with improved privacy and a revamped UI design: Details

Xiaomi has finally launched its 12th iteration of Android-based custom operating system MIUI 12. It comes with a slew of changes as well as improved privacy features and revamped UI as well as wallpapers. The MIUI 12 has been released for the global market including India. The company will begin the rollout from next month in phases. To recall the company released its latest OS in the Chinese markets a few weeks back and it has launched the much-awaited MIUI 12 for the global market which marches up with the Chinese version. Xiaomi will begin the final roll out later in June but the beta version of the operating system will start rolling out from next week. Let’s take a look at its new features. Privacy features This time the company has focused on bringing new privacy tools. The company says that MIUI 12 grants the user stronger control over permissions which takes privacy protection to the next level. With the launch of the new version now an individual app will ask for permission. You will now get options such as While using the app” and “Notify” for permission. This allows the user to manage apps request sensitive permissions such as location, permissions to access the camera, microphone, contacts, call history, calendar and storage are only allowed under “While using the app” mode. Now the users can clear away their location information and metadata before they send their pictures. Super Wallpaper Revamped Interface Design The company has also aimed its attention at giving a new look to its UI design and nuanced system animations. With the use of Mi Render Engine, you will get a smoother UI experience. It brings refreshed design that is inspired by nature from the opening and closing of apps to the smooth switching between apps. The company says that with the nuanced system animations, MIUI 12 introduces a lifelike OS experience where every detail becomes tangibly real.  The MIUI 12 brings in  “Super Wallpaper” that represents iconic planetary landforms based on NASA’s official imagery. This has been spread out to Always-on display, Home screen, and Lock screen. Other features and improvements With the release of MIUI 12 multitasking will become manageable. Now a global floating window has been introduced that allows the users to navigate the system using full-screen gestures, floating windows can facilitate multitasking and save the trouble of constantly switching between apps. The floating windows can be moved, closed and resized by simple gestures applied to the action bar. For instance, when a video is playing the users will now be able to read a received text and can also respond to it without having to pause a video.  MIUI 12 also draws enhanced screen casting functionality allowing the users to cast documents, apps, videos, and games with a single tap. According to the company, the windows that are being cast can be minimized at any time. The option to cast items with the screen off decreases power consumption and hiding private items doesn’t allow floating notifications and incoming calls to appear on external monitors. In addition to this MIUI 12 supports an Ultra battery saver mode, Dark mode, App drawers and more. The company plans to begin its first phase of the rollout from June to Mi 9, Mi 9T, Mi 9T Pro, Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro. Facebook Shops now launched to help businesses of all sizes prepare for future

0
With many small businesses are struggling and with stores closing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, entrepreneurs are finding ways to bring their businesses online. Now, Facebook Shops have been rolled out to empower business owner and to make shopping seamless “Facebook Shops make it easy for businesses to set up a single online store for customers to access on both Facebook and Instagram. Creating a Facebook Shop is free and simple. Businesses can choose the products they want to feature from their catalogue and then customize the look and feel of their shop with a cover image and accent colours that showcase their brand. This means any seller, no matter their size or budget, can bring their business online and connect with customers wherever and whenever it’s convenient for them,” the Mark Zuckerberg-led company revealed in a blog post. Wondering where you can find Facebook Shops? Well, people can discover Facebook Shops on a business’ Facebook Page or Instagram profile as well as through stories or ads. From there, they can browse the full collection, save products they’re interested in and place an order — either on the business’ website or without leaving the app if the business has enabled checkout in the US. Facebook Shops work just like a physical store. If you need to ask someone for help while being in Facebook Shops, you’ll be able to message a business through WhatsApp, Messenger or Instagram Direct to get support, track deliveries and more. Moreover, Facebook also revealed that users will be able to view a business’ shop and make purchases right within a chat in WhatsApp, Messenger or Instagram Direct in the coming days. In a blog post, Facebook revealed, Facebook Shops “will be more widely available in the coming months. You can learn more about how we built Shops with privacy in mind here. We’re also investing in features across our apps like Instagram Shop, live shopping and more that will be integrated with Facebook Shops to help customers discover products they’re interested in and make purchasing easier.” Let’s check out what Instagram Shop is all about. According to Facebook, This summer, starting in the US, we’re introducing Instagram Shop, a new way to discover and buy products you love in Instagram Explore. You can get inspired by collections from @shop, browse selections from your favourite brands and creators, filter by categories like beauty and home, and purchase the looks you love all in one place. And later this year, we’re adding a new shop tab in the navigation bar, so you can get to Instagram Shop in just one tap.” Asserting that Facebook-owned apps users have been using live video across its social media platforms to showcase products for years, from shoe stores announcing new sneakers to beauty influencers trying on different lipsticks, Facebook notified, “Now, we’re making it easier to shop for products in real time. Soon, sellers, brands and creators will be able to tag products from their Facebook Shop or catalog before going live and those products will be shown at the bottom of the video so people can easily tap to learn more and purchase.” Initially Facebook Shops is being tested with businesses on Facebook and Instagram, and the social networking giant would soon roll it out more broadly in the coming months. Besides this, Facebook is also testing ways to make it easier to earn rewards with businesses you love by enabling you to connect your loyalty programs, like the points program at your local cafe, to your Facebook account. “You’ll be able to easily see and keep track of your points and rewards. And we’re exploring ways to help small businesses create, manage and surface a loyalty program on Facebook Shops,” the social networking giant mentioned. In order to provide small businesses the assistance they need, Facebook is also working more closely with partners like Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, ChannelAdvisor, CedCommerce, Cafe24, Tienda Nube and Feedonomics. Mind you! Facebook stated that “these organizations offer powerful tools to help entrepreneurs start and run their businesses and move online. Now they’ll help small businesses build and grow their Facebook Shops and use our other commerce tools.” For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on TwitterFacebook and Instagram. For newest tech & gadget videos subscribe to our YouTube Channel. Beware! Online romance scams are a modern form of fraud, reveals a study

0
With people across the globe practising social distancing owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, digital communication technologies have come to forefront to help them overcome physical, social and psychological barriers in building romantic relationships. Online dating apps like Tinder, Bumble, OkCupid and LivU are amongst several other dating websites that have gained traction during this stay-at-home period. But now a research published in Clinical Practice & Epidemiology in Mental Health journal revealed that the online dating industry has given rise to new forms of pathologies and crime as well. The study by Andrea Pozza and her team from University of Siena and Scotte University Hospital has notified, “Online romance scams are a modern form of fraud that have spread in Western societies along with the development of social media. Through a fictitious Internet profile, the scammer develops a romantic relationship with the victim for 6-8 months, building a deep emotional bond with the aim of extorting economic resources in a manipulative dynamic.” The research revealed that there are two notable features that might lead to underestimation of the number of cases:
  1. Firstly, the double trauma of losing money and a relationship
  2. Secondly, the victim’s shame upon discovery of the scam
As per the research by Pozza, “Sixty-three percent of social media users and 3% of the general population report having been a victim at least once. Women, middle-aged people, and individuals with higher tendencies to anxiety, romantic idealization of affective relations, impulsiveness and susceptibility to relational addiction are at higher risk of being victims of the scam. Understanding the psychological characteristics of victims and scammers will allow at-risk personality profiles to be identified and prevention strategies to be developed.” Over the last decade, nearly about 1400 dating sites/chats have been created in North America alone, the researcher added. Solely in the UK, 23 percent of Internet users have met someone online with whom they had a romantic relationship for a certain period and that even 6 percent of married couples met through the web. As per a recent report by Research and Markets, the global online dating market has witnessed continuous growth in the past few years and is expected to augment even further during the forecast period (2020-2024). The market is expected to be driven by various growth-enhancing factors such as rising internet penetration, increasing smartphone penetration, rising single adults population, changing perception of online dating, etc. For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on TwitterFacebook and Instagram. For newest tech & gadget videos subscribe to our YouTube Channel. Soon, a reusable sensor could detect COVID-19 in just 60 seconds

0
With the COVID-19 pandemic grappling the world, ‘testing’ is the new mantra to contain the outbreak of the coronavirus. Now, it seems that people could soon use a reusable sensor to detect the COVID-19 in mere 60 second. In order to develop a portable, reusable coronavirus sensor that people can always carry with them, University of Utah electrical and computer engineering professor Massood Tabib-Azar has received a $200,000 National Science Foundation Rapid Response Research (RAPID) grant. The sensor, about the size of a quarter, works with a cellphone and can detect COVID-19 in just 60 seconds. As Tabib-Azar has already developed the technology—and a prototype—to detect the Zika virus, an official blog post on the University of Utah website stated that “he said he could have a prototype of the new COVID-19 sensor for clinical trials in two to three months.” According to Massood Tabib-Azar: “It can be made to be a standalone device, but it can also be connected to a cellphone. Once you have it connected either wirelessly or directly, you can use the cellphone software and processor to give a warning if you have the virus.” In April this year, Tabib-Azar along with Subhashish Dolai got two papers published in IEEE Sensors Journal. Mind you! The technology, which is based on a sensor Tabib-Azar first began developing for the NSF about a year ago to detect the Zika virus, involves just a drop of saliva and can produce results in a minute. Tabib-Azar is now converting the same technology to work with COVID-19. In an official blog post on the University of Utah website, it was revealed, “The sensor would use single-strand DNA called aptamers in the sensor that would attach to the proteins in the COVID-19 virus molecule if it is present. A person would plug the small sensor into the cellphone’s power jack and launch an app made for the device. To test for the presence of the virus, the user would place a drop of saliva on the sensor, and the results would appear on the phone.” Moreover, this sensor could also test for the virus on the surface of something, like a table or desk, by brushing a swab on the surface and then on the sensor, the blog post added. Besides this, it was also notified that this amazing technology by Tabib-Azar could help detect the presence of COVID-19 in floating microscopic particles in the air in enclosed spaces such as an elevator. Mind you! Up until now the virus is not considered not airborne, but numerous researches are being done to discover if minute particles of the virus can hang in floating droplets in the air. Therefore, “if the virus is present, the DNA strands in the sensor would bind to the virus’ proteins and electrical resistance is measured in the device, signaling a positive result,” the blog post added Now if you wondering about the structure of this sensor that could help you detect the COVID-19 pandemic, Tabib-Azar has stated that the sensor would include an array of tiny devices inside it. Each of these tiny devices will come fitted with a DNA strand that looks for a different protein. A specific combination of proteins would be unique to just COVID-19, he added. Tabib-Azar further added that “By increasing the number of devices and single-strand DNA, we can increase the sensor’s accuracy and reduce the false positives and false negatives.” What’s more interesting is that the sensor is designed to be reusable as it can destroy the previous sample on it by producing a small electrical current that could heat up and remove or disintegrate the virus. All that this the entire process would require is a little battery power from the smartphones, said Tabib-Azar. The researcher at the University of Utah also talked about “another possible method would involve putting the saliva sample on disposable sheets that are placed on top of the sensor like a sticky note. This would decrease cross-contamination on the sensor and eliminate the need to heat up and destroy the sample afterward.” In addition to these impressive testing techniques, it was stated that researchers across the world can get a clearer and more accurate picture of where hotspots are with big outbreaks of the virus the device also can be designed to upload the results to a central server that maps out positive results in an area. YouTube vs TikTok: TikTok rating plummets drastically after YouTube pulls down CarryMinati’s video

0
Internet is witnessing an unending online war between YouTubers and TikTok fans since the recent past. Now what has added fuel to the fire is the removal of CarryMinati’s viral video from YouTube for violating its terms of service. Soon after the video titled as ‘YouTube vs TikTok: The End’ was  taken down, CarryMinati’s fan stormed the Internet to wage a war against TikTok by bringing down its rating which now stands at 2 as against 4.5 rating earlier on Google Play Store. In the ‘YouTube vs TikTok: The End’, which has now been removed, CarryMinati roasted Amir Mumbai-based TikToker Amir Siddique for his earlier posted TikTok video where he had accused YouTubers of plagiarising TikTok content. In another recent video on , CarryMinati clarified that a lot of his slangs in the ‘YouTube vs TikTok: The End’ video have been taken out of context by the viewers. He tried making his image clear by stating that people are understanding his words in their own respective ways.
CarryMinati, who has more than 18 million subscribers on YouTube, is drawing support from his fans and celebrities including Mukesh Khanna who defended CarryMinati via a video stating “I support CarryMinati  who raised his voice against TikTok. His video has been deleted from YouTube which is wrong according to me. If video has to be deleted, then all objectionable video content should be removed.” “Along with this, I would also like to advise Carry Minati to choose his words and sentences carefully. Avoid using words or sentences that would hurt others feeling. People love and support you, therefore choosing right words is extremely important. Many a times, by using wrong world, we stand incorrect even if we are right,” added Khanna. “We are familiar with Roasting format. We like him because of slang. In India, we have freedom of expression. Let me educate you like Pitamah educated Arjun of Dwapar Yug. Abusing is not freedom of expression. It does not give you freedom to say something which can hurt feelings and sentiments of others. Let me add something from my side too. People have this wrong notion abusing, using slang language adds more weightage to what we say. This is wrong! Facebook rolls out Room Messenger integration in latest WhatsApp beta for Android

1
With the introduction of Facebook’s Messenger Rooms that can hold up to 50 participants in the same group call, the social-networking giant had then announced that soon it will be adding ways to create rooms from Instagram and WhatsApp too in order to build the communication bridge. And now news is rife that a latest WhatsApp beta has integrated this real-time video chatting feature. A WABetaInfo report has revealed that the WhatsApp beta app version 2.20.163 for Android showcases a new integration with Messenger Rooms. This allows users to have access to this real-time video-chatting feature that enables up to 50 people to participate in the same group call. If you too have 2.20.163 Android beta update installed, the news report added that you can check for WhatsApp’s new integration with Messenger Rooms by checking out the chat sheet if the Room icon is place alongside like Documents, Gallery, Audio, Location and Contacts. Why we didn’t mentioned about the Camera icon here, the reason is it has been replaced by Rooms in the WhatsApp beta app version 2.20.163 for Android. On Clicking on Rooms, WhatsApp will introduce Room Messenger to you and you can get started by creating Rooms. But there is a second option too as you can access Room Messenger via Call tab. You select your contacts and then continue in messenger to create Room. According to the report, the Messenger Rooms integration on WhatsApp has initially been introduced to users in the United States. However, it is believed that it will be made available in other regions soon. In a blog post earlier, Facebook had revealed that “Messenger Rooms make it easy to spend quality time with friends, loved ones and people who share your interests. Create a room right from Messenger or Facebook, and invite anyone to join your video call, even if they don’t have a Facebook account. Rooms will soon hold up to 50 people with no time limit.” “Messenger Rooms is a new way to spend time with friends and family through group video calls when you can’t be together in person. We built Rooms with privacy in mind and designed controls to let you manage your experience,” said Erin Egan, Chief Privacy Officer, Policy. Let’s check out 5 features that have been introduced to make Room Messenger secured: Locking: Rooms can be locked or unlocked once a call begins. If a room is locked, no one else can join, except a Group admin for rooms created through a Group. Removing a participant: The room creator can remove any unwanted participants. If the room creator removes someone from the call or leaves, the room will lock automatically and the room creator must unlock the call for others to join. Leaving: If at any point you feel unsafe in a room, you can leave. Just because a room is locked doesn’t mean you have to stay. Reporting: You can report a room name or submit feedback about a room if you believe it violated Facebook’s Community Standards. But since Facebook don’t watch or listen to your audio or video calls, it’s important to know that reports and feedback will not include audio or video from the room. Blocking: You can block someone on Facebook or Messenger who may be bothering you and we won’t inform them. When someone you’ve blocked is logged into Facebook or Messenger, they won’t be able to join a room you’re in and you won’t be able to join theirs.
