With the hope to extend the power of Teams beyond work scenarios to your personal life, Microsoft has now introduced new Teams features that are designed to alleviate the need for disparate tools and instead offer one central hub for individuals, groups, and families to collaborate, stay connected and organized. Mind you! The new features have started rolling out in preview to Microsoft Teams mobile app across iOS and Android and will be fully rolled out in the coming weeks.

Let’s take a look at some of the features that are available in preview of Microsoft Teams mobile app:

Keeps all stay connected with text chat and video calling

Microsoft Teams will become the messaging hub for all personal chats and video and voice calls, with fun features like sharing GIFs, photos, videos, documents, and even location already integrated. Users can create groups to chat and call, to stay connected with family and friends.

Microsoft Teams users will be able to stay organized by sharing lists, documents, and calendars all within the group dashboard. The Teams will allow users to easily go back and see the chats, tasks, pictures, videos, and group calendars shared within the dashboard, providing a great way to pick up conversations or projects where they left off.

Allows you to share important documents

Microsoft Teams integrates with other Microsoft 365 apps so users can easily share from Word, Excel, and PowerPoint right from within the Teams app. All documents are also stored on OneDrive and users can now access these documents across other devices – whether it is for planning a family budget or preparing kids’ schedules.

Makes it easy to share your location

Easy location sharing is available as part of these new personal features as well. This enables the users to tell their loved ones if they’re running late or if they’re still at the grocery store and can get extra milk. Microsoft Teams location sharing will make it easy to share your location and find your friends for that park picnic—or in the crowd at a concert.

Apart from these features, Microsoft Teams will also come with a Safe that allows its users securely store and share important information like passwords, rewards numbers, or login information. These information can be shared directly via Microsoft Teams app with families and friends. The Safe feature in Microsoft Teams app is supported by the security of two-factor authentication and end-to-end encryption.

Google Images now gets ‘Fact Check’ label: Here’s everything you must know

1

With an aim to help people navigate the origin, authenticity or context of an image of what’s going on in the world, Google has started fact check information in Google Images globally for a more informed judgments about what appears on the web. The tech giant has revealed that this builds on the fact check features in Search and News, which people come across billions of times per year.

“Now, when you search on Google Images, you may see a “Fact Check” label under the thumbnail image results. When you tap one of these results to view the image in a larger format, you’ll see a summary of the fact check that appears on the underlying web page. These labels may appear both for fact check articles about specific images and for fact check articles that include an image in the story,” said Harris Cohen, Group Product Manager, Google Search.

According to Google, fact check labels appear on results that come from independent, authoritative sources on the web that meet the criteria by the Google Search. These sources rely on ClaimReview, an open method used by publishers to indicate fact check content to search engines. The tech giant already highlight fact checks on Search and in Google News to make this content easy to discover. YouTube also leverages ClaimReview to surface fact check information panels in Brazil, India and the US. The full fact check library can be accessed through a dedicated search tool and an open API.

It was further added that just as is the case in Search, adding this label in Google Images results does not affect ranking. However, Google’s systems are designed to surface the most relevant, reliable information available, including from sources that provide fact checks.

To recognize the important work being done by fact-checkers during the ongoing pandemic, the Google News Initiative provided $6.5 million in funding support to organizations around the globe earlier this year, revealed a blog post.

Google further added that these efforts not only highlight the significant contributions of the fact check community, but they also ensure that people have access to critical context about the information—and now images—they encounter online.

Soon, the US Army will position drones that can even change their shape during the flight just like Transformers

0

If you have watched the Transformers movie, then you must be well aware of how the cars and other vehicles used to shapeshift into a robot in order the save the world. Now, the reel life incident might change into a real-life existence. According to a report, the U.S. Army will be deploying shape-changing drones during a mission. In the movie, you have seen how effortlessly the vehicles change their shapes to robots and then fold back into a secretive machine. The researchers have found out that this technology is being used by the US military for vertical lift vehicles such as drones and UAVs that can change shape during the middle of a flight.

As per the report the researchers with the U.S. Army’s Combat Capabilities Development Command’s Army Research Laboratory and Texas A&M University have published discoveries in a two-year study in fluid-structure interaction. During their research, they found out a tool that will be capable of improving the structural pattern for Future Vertical Lift vehicles while properly accounting for the interaction between air and the structure.

It is suggested that in the coming year this tool will be used to develop and quickly improve Future Vertical Lift vehicles skilled of shifting form during flight, by this means enhancing the enactment of the vehicle through multiple stages of flying.

An aerospace engineer at the laboratory, Dr. Francis Phillips said “Consider an (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) mission where the vehicle needs to get quickly to the station, or dash, and then attempt to stay on station for as long as possible, or loiter.” He further added, “During dash segments, short wings are desirable in order to go fast and be more manoeuvrable, but for loitering segments, long wings are desirable in order to enable low power, high endurance flight.”

Moreover, the tool will also allow the structural optimization of a vehicle will be equipped for such transformation while accounting for the distortion of the wings due to the fluid-structure interaction, he explained. According to him one problem with morphing vehicles is striking a balance between sufficient bending stiffness and softness to enable morphing, He said if the wing bends too much, then the theoretical benefits of the morphing could be negated and also could lead to control issues and instabilities. So to get the better of the researchers has developed a process that decouples the fluid and structural solvers, which can bring down the computational cost for a single run by as much as 80 percent.

The report says that “the analysis of additional structural configurations can also be performed without re-analyzing the fluid due to this decoupled approach, which in turn generates additional computational cost savings, leading to multiple orders of magnitude reductions in computational cost when considering this method within an optimization framework.”

In due course, the U.S. Army will be able to design the model more quickly than through the use of current techniques. Philips is confident that when this technique is applied within an optimization framework and together with additive manufacturing, the future warfighter will be capable of using this tool to construct optimized custom air vehicles according to the mission’s requirements.

Redmi Earbuds S Review: A sound investment

Xiaomi is no longer just a smartphone brand. With its spinoff brands like Redmi, it has entered various genres of technology. We for one have been using their products since its inception in India when it was a small smartphone brand trying to get some percentage of the Pie here. Now, it is the Numero Uno brand in India when it comes to smartphones and just like its competitors, it has started to make a strong foothold in the TV and audio segment as well. Talking about which, the company under the Redmi banner has launched a new set of wireless earplugs. They call it Redmi Earbuds S that we have been playing around with since the past 2 weeks. At an incredible price, these are somewhat of a showstopper in the entry range of wireless earbuds. This is our review of the Redmi Earbuds S.

Design

Let us start by how light these are. Even when inside the case, the whole apparatus is super light. Available in matt black finish these are a capsule size earplug that weigh just 4 grams each. And in those many grams, Xiaomi was able to fit in 43mAh battery in each earbud and the audio drivers. Each earbud has a led light inside with a clickable front panel to manage tracks, calls and more. Underneath you get the charging points and the left/right ear markings. The default silicon ear tips did fit us well, however, the company does give two extra pairs in the box for different ear cavity types.

The Redmi Earbuds S are magnetic so they snap swiftly within the charging case. The charging case also has a matt black finish. The rear of the case has the micro USB port for charging, however, there is no charging cable provided in the box. The top lid of the case is also magnetic and snaps shut nicely. Overall, the design and build of both the earplugs and the case are good. We would have appreciated a little more tension in the case hinge, but in the price bracket, they are decent.Redmi earbuds s plug

Redmi Earbuds S Performance

Coming to the fun part, Redmi Earbuds S is built for not just the music lover but also for gamers, which is a unique quality to own in wireless earplugs. It gets connected to any smartphone in no time at all. We tried them with a smartphone that supports Bluetooth 5.0 since Redmi Earbuds S also supports the same tech and the sound was outstanding. We got good bass, clear vocals and crisp lows and mids.

To put it to further test we played PUBG mobile with them and we loved every bit of it. It comes with a gaming mode that reduces the latency to 122ms and gives almost as good shot to sound latency as you would get from a wired headphone. These are also sweat and splash-proof (IPX4 rating), so if you take them to the gym or for a run nothing will happen to them. Just don’t dunk them in water. As far as the battery life is concerned, we got about 3.5 hours of battery life from them, which included 1.5 hours of gameplay. If you want more then just tug them back in the case and you will end up getting up to 12 hours of additional time as it has 300mAh battery.

Call quality is also not bad either on the Redmi Earbuds S and one can access voice assistants on the smartphone as well. You can do this by triple pressing the button located on the earpiece. Google assistant came up and we were able to command it well 9 out of 10 times.

Verdict

All in all, Redmi Earbuds S are a good package in just Rs 1,799. We quite liked the design and the built, we could not take them out for a jog, but we exercised with them at home and they did not unplug from the ear cavity even once. If you are looking for inexpensive wireless audio earplugs for music or gaming needs these are your best bet.

Pros

Good design

Good sound

Lightweight

Cons

No charging cable

Case lid hinges could have been more robust

One prominent development will be a new branding for iOS as well as iPhone OS. Yes, speculations are being made that the company might change the name of these products.

Recently, Apple’s software chief, Craig Federighi announced that from now on iPad will run on its own OS. The new operating system for the iPad will be called iPad OS and will no longer run on iOS. It is going to have its own native operating system which will share the same core of both iOS as well as macOS. While the specific details of the new OS for iPad are yet to go official we expect the company might also discuss it at the conference.

The company might also include the major changes it has made for its Mac devices over the years in its Keynote. As per the rumours the company is most likely to introduce its latest iMac computer this year but it is not confirmed where this will take place at WWDC. The newly designed iMac is expected to be offered in two screen sizes of 21.5-inch and 23-inch options with narrow bezels.

The company is also expected to shift from Intel’s processor to its own RM-based processors for Mac computers. Reports suggest its chipset will be based on the unannounced A14 processor. Hence this step will give Apple more control over its hardware development in order to increase the speed and make its devices more powerful.

COVID-19 crisis: Know how Philips showcases its commitment to telehealth

0

Philips, a global leader in health technology, today announced it has once again joined forces with the American Telemedicine Association (ATA) to help further the adoption of telehealth across the industry, demonstrating its commitment to connecting care across acute, post-acute and home care settings. The continued collaboration spotlights the growing adoption and momentum in telehealth amidst COVID-19, and the need to convey the exponential shift to telehealth capabilities.

The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the share of Americans participating in telehealth from 11 percent in 2019 to 46 percent up until now, with healthcare systems reporting a 50 to 175-fold increase in telehealth volume compared to pre-pandemic levels.

According to Philips, “As the world begins to move from the first wave of reactive care, into a more proactive phase and beyond, virtual care solutions are supporting the recovery of COVID patients as they transition through their care journey, and non-COVID patients as they return to elective surgeries, diagnoses, prevention and treatments that have been put on hold since the onset of the pandemic.”

Asserting on importance of new opportunities to deliver quality care whenever and wherever it’s needed, Ann Mond Johnson, CEO, ATA, “There is no better time for Philips to team with the ATA. Philips is creating proactive, AI-powered solutions to improve patient monitoring, precision diagnosis and clinical workflows at every point along the continuum. This directly aligns with our vision for telehealth — to drive the transformation of health by integrating virtual care from the hospital to physician offices and the home.”

Philips alignment with ATA will help promote strong  growth and faster adoption of telehealth and policy changes escalated during the COVID crisis as we pivot to innovate ‘virtual first’ strategies to support hospitals, payers, and patients across care settings, including digital health technologies to support healthy living in the home.

“Philips has been a leader in telehealth across acute care and post-acute care settings in the hospital and in the home for over three decades, helping health systems deploy and scale telehealth solutions to help improve patient outcomes, enhance patient and staff experience and lower care costs,” said Roy Jakobs, Chief Business Leader Connected Care, member of the Executive Committee at Royal Philips.

“Our alignment with ATA will help promote strong  growth and faster adoption of telehealth and policy changes escalated during the COVID crisis as we pivot to innovate ‘virtual first’ strategies to support hospitals, payers, and patients across care settings, including digital health technologies to support healthy living in the home,” added Jakob.

As per Philips, COVID-19 has propelled digital technology to the forefront as healthcare systems rapidly expand telehealth, including virtual care, remote patient monitoring, data analytics and medical record-sharing capabilities to care for patients with COVID-19.

In response to the pandemic, Philips has been working with customers around the world to rapidly develop and deploy scalable telehealth solutions to support frontline care professionals and their patients.

The COVID-19 pandemic changed the routines of millions of people around the world seemingly overnight. In some places, once-congested streets are now easily navigable; previously crammed sidewalks, eerily vacant. Such widespread, rapid change in human activity is unprecedented and its effects on our planet and our lives are only just beginning to be realized.

Earlier in May, NASA’s Earth Science Division announced that it is supporting the science community as it investigates the many changes this unique situation has brought to light. Through its Rapid Response and Novel Research in Earth Science (RRNES) initiative, the agency is providing funding for selected, rapid-turnaround projects that make innovative use of satellite data and other NASA resources to address the different environmental, economic and societal impacts of the pandemic.

The agency recently funded the following four RRNES projects:

  1. Exploring Uneven Gains in Urban Air Quality
  2. Impact of Air Pollution Reduction on the Atmosphere
  3. Air Pollution Links to Water Quality
  4. Shedding (Night) Light on Pandemic Economic Impacts

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is tipped to feature a 120HZ refresh rate display panel

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series is rumoured to launch on August 5. On this day the company will reportedly host an Unpacked 2020 event online, due to the coronavirus pandemic. Up till now, we came across lots of rumours, reports and leaks with regard to the sequel of Galaxy Note 10. So far the colour options, display screen and chipset details have been tipped. In a new development, a tipster has claimed that the Ultra variant of the upcoming device is going to feature an LTPO OLED display with a higher refresh of 120Hz. In addition to this, live images of the device showcasing the front panel have also come to light.

News is abuzz that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will be powered by Snapdragon 865+ SoC. This chipset is yet to be announced by Qualcomm. Moreover, it will be supported by an upgraded S Pen stylus. In addition to this, the device will be featuring an LTPO OLED display with QHD+ resolution supported by a refresh rate of 120Hz. There are going to be new camera functions also.

A Twitter post has also showcased the live images of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra which appears to be similar to Galaxy Note 10+ that was launched last year. However, the tipster has only shared the images of the front panel displaying vibrant natural looking wallpapers. The display has a notch to house a selfie camera located at top centre. A curved display panel is clearly seen and on the left side, the device has a volume rocker and a power button.

Some of the previous leaks suggest that the vanilla variant will have a full-HD flat display with 60HZ refresh rate along with wide frames. This indicated that the smartphone will go for narrow bezels instead of a curved display. Moreover, the Galaxy Note 20 series is tipped to be available in three colour options in Black, Copper, White/Grey, and Mint Green. The series is going to include Samsung Galaxy Note 20, Samsung Galaxy Note 20+ and Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. This time we will see a lot of differences in the specifications of the three smartphones. The regular model is most likely to come with a 6.7-inch display, while the Plus variant will come with a 6.9-inch display.
