Syska Mini Smart Socket review: A smart device to make other devices ‘Smart’

Syska is making new and innovative products to match the high-flying tech industry of today. Syska has made LED lights, power banks, extension boards, plugs and various other electronic equipment for the Indian and foreign customers. And now, with the growing use of smart home devices, Syska has launched new products in its smart home devices, one of those products is the Syska Mini Smart Socket. We checked it out for quite some time. Read our review to find out more about this new product:

Design

The Syska Mini Smart Socket is completely round in shape and it looks similar to what a regular three-pin plug looks, except it is rounder and fatter. It is white in colour and has a power button on the side which can be turned on/off to cut the electric supply.

Syska Mini SMart Socket

The top of the Smart Socket has the three holes for plugging in any other device’s plugs while the bottom holds the three pins which is inserted into the wall mount. It holds a minimalistic design as nothing much really is written on the Smart Socket except the company’s name and logo. The bottom of the socket also holds the name of the product as well as the model number (MWP-002) along with rating and the power output.

It is a little on the heavier side. But seeing what features it comes with, the weight can be overlooked.

Syska Mini Smart Socket

Performance

The Syska Mini Smart Socket can turn any device into a smart device as it is a Wi-Fi enabled wall socket. It can also work as a remote control, which can be used to control other devices connected to it. The device also supports Google Voice Assistant as well as Amazon’s Alexa. The Syska Mini Smart Socket works on Wi-Fi (2.4GHz) along with 2G/ 3G and 4G.

Syska Mini Smart Socket

The device connects with the Syska smartphone “SmartLife” application. Although the connection doesn’t take much time, but for the first-time users it can get a little confusing. The device plugged into it can be controlled with the application as well. To elaborate more, the application can be used to turn off or turn on the device from anywhere in the world as it is connected with the internet.

The application can also be used to set specific timers to turn on/ off the Syska Mini Smart Socket. The timer is also helpful when charging a smartphone or laptop as it doesn’t let the devices overcharge and cuts off the power supply when the timer concludes. According to the company, the Syska Mini Smart Socket can be used for a range of devices including Televisions, Electric Cookers. Common Area Lighting, Street Lights, Wet Grinders, Water Coolers, Air Coolers etc.

Syska Mini Smart Socket

The company touts that the Syska Mini Smart Socket is extra safe as it comes with Type-D 3-pin plug (with the third pin for Ground). It is rated for 240V/10A (2,200 Watts) which is commonly used in the Indian homes. It is also made from flame retardant materials and is equipped with Surge Protection that further protects the devices connected to it.

The smart plug can work with Android 4.4 and higher or Apple iOS 8.0 and higher. One thing we would like to add here is that the box in which the Syska Mini Smart Socket comes in has the QR codes for Android and iOS which can be used to download the apps directly. The device has a switch lifetime of more than 50,000 times, which ensures its longevity and it also lets the users monitor the energy usage.

The smartphone app also sends notification to the user about overcharging or the energy usage. Accordingly, the user can then switch the Syska Mini Smart Socket off with a single touch. The Syska Mini Smart Socket holds an MRP tag of Rs 2,599 but on Flipkart it is listed at Rs 1,099.

Syska Mini Smart Socket

Conclusion

The Syska Mini Smart Socket is a great device considering the features it comes with. It is a product which is a step in the ‘Complete Smart Home’ direction. The timer is an extremely useful feature of this device which can be used to prevent overcharging of any devices. And the voice assistant support just adds another layer of ‘smart’ to Syska Mini Smart Socket.

Pros:

Google Voice Assistant and Amazon Alexa support

Timer feature is good

Easy to turn off/on

Cons:

The application can be a bit cumbersome for new users

Takes some time to understand voice commands

OnePlus’ Oxygen will be getting some special features for India through a software update in the coming weeks. This news was revealed by Szymon Kopec, the Product Lead of OnePlus at the launch event of OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro smartphones in India. The feature also lets the user choose which apps should be blocked from sending notification during the set time. These applications could include anything from social media apps to gaming apps. Compare: Redmi Note 7S and Redmi Note 7 Pro and Redmi Note 7

Xiaomi today launched its Redmi Note 7S smartphone that lies in the middle of Note 7 Pro and Note 7 in terms of specifications and pricing. Here, we compare the Redmi Note 7S and Redmi Note 7 Pro and Redmi Note 7 smartphones so that you can see which is the best for you. Check out all the specifications of Redmi Note 7S compared here:

Display

Redmi Note 7S: 6.3-inch full-HD+ Dot Notch Display

Redmi Note 7 Pro: 6.3-inch FHD+ Dot Notch display

Redmi Note 7: 6.3-inch Full HD+ LCD display

As it is evident here, not much is different in the displays of the three smartphones. Since all the three have the same display, we would recommend you to go with the cheapest of the lot.

Processor

Redmi Note 7S: Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC

Redmi Note 7 Pro: Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor

Redmi Note 7: Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor

The Pro variant is the clear winner among the three smartphones as far as the processor goes, because it comes with the Snapdragon 675 SoC, while the other two were powered by Snapdragon 660 SoC. It means that the performance of the Pro variant of the handset is better than that of the other two smartphones.

Rear camera(s)

Redmi Note 7S: Dual rear camera module with 48MP primary Samsung GM1 sensor + 5MP sensor

Redmi Note 7 Pro: 48MP Samsung GM1 sensor + 5MP secondary sensor

Redmi Note 7: Dual rear camera setup with 12MP and 2MP sensors

The cameras of the Note 7S and Note 7 Pro are identical, but they are far superior to the ones used in Note 7. If photography is a major concern for you, then we would recommend you to go for the Note 7S and Note Pro.

Selfie camera

Redmi Note 7S: 13MP front-facing snapper

Redmi Note 7 Pro: 13MP AI front camera

Redmi Note 7: 13MP front-facing camera

The selfie cameras of all the three smartphones are exactly the same. The Pro version does come with some AI enhancements though so you may choose to opt for that if selfies are very important for you. However, we should add that you shouldn’t expect it to make a world of a difference.

RAM and storage

Redmi Note 7S: 3GB RAM/32GB storage, 4GB RAM/64GB storage

Redmi Note 7 Pro: 4GB RAM+64GB storage, 6GB RAM+128GB storage

Redmi Note 7: 3GB RAM/32GB onboard storage, 4GB RAM/64GB internal storage

The most-high end smartphone of the three also manages to win here. Its base variant, as well as its high-end model, has more RAM and storage than the other two smartphones.

Support for microSD card

Redmi Note 7S: Up to 256GB

Redmi Note 7 Pro: Up to 256GB

Redmi Note 7: Up to 256GB

As far as microSD card support of the three smartphones goes, it is absolutely the same.

Battery

Redmi Note 7S: 4,000mAh battery that has support for Quick Charge 4.

Redmi Note 7 Pro: 4,000mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 4.

Redmi Note 7: 4,000mAh high-capacity battery that has support for Quick Charge 4.

All the three smartphones from Xiaomi come with a 4,000mAh battery that has support for Quick Charge 4. If the battery is the primary concern that you have while buying a smartphone, you may as well go for the most affordable one.

Operating system

Redmi Note 7S: Android 9.0 Pie skinned with MIUI 10

Redmi Note 7 Pro: Android Pie skinned with MIUI 10

Redmi Note 7: Android 9.0 Pie skinned with MIUI 10

We didn’t expect the Android operating system of a new smartphone to be any different, as the Android Q is not scheduled to come on Redmi smartphones.

Price

Redmi Note 7S: Rs 10,999

Redmi Note 7 Pro: Rs 13,999

Redmi Note 7: Rs 9,999

If a good processor with good RAM/ storage and smooth performance what you look for in a smartphone, then we recommend you to go for the Redmi Note 7 Pro. And if photography is not what you look for, then you should go for Note 7. Redmi Note 7S lies in the middle of the two so you may go for it rather than Note 7 for better cameras and display.

Redmi 7A spotted on TENAA listings, will pack a notch-less display with single selfie and rear camera

0

Xiaomi has launched its new smartphone – Redmi 7S – in India today, but there is another device in the Redmi 7-series which was spotted on the TENAA’s database. The Redmi 7A, which will be the successor of the Redmi 6A, is touted as the most sold smartphone in India in Q1 2019 by IDC. The TENAA listing reveals that the Redmi 7A will hold the model numbers M1903C3EE and M1903C3EC.

Redmi 7A expected to make an appearance soon in the Chinese market. Currently, the company hasn’t said or revealed anything about the Redmi 7A as it is planning to launch its new flagship – the Redmi K20.

Currently, the TENAA listing hasn’t revealed anything other than the design of the upcoming Redmi 7A. According to the images on the listing, the Redmi 7A will be rocking a notch-less display with normal top and bottom bezels. A single front camera can be seen on the Redmi 7A and similar to its predecessor, the handset will have a thinner top and bottom bezels. The image also reveals that the volume rocker keys will be on the right side of the device while the SIM card tray will be placed on the left of the device. The back part of the device reveals a single camera with LED flash and there is “AI Camera” printed on the back of the device which reveals that the device will come with AI camera functionality.

But the rear part of the device does not sport a fingerprint scanner which reveals that the Redmi 7A may come with an in-display fingerprint scanner. Although the specifications of the Redmi 7A are currently not known, but since it is the successor of the Redmi 6A, it will hold higher specifications than its predecessor but lesser than the Redmi 7. The screen size of the Redmi 7A is not known, but the Redmi 6A packed a 5.5-inch display while the Redmi 7 packs a 6.26-inch HD+ display. So, we can expect that the Redmi 7A will come with a similar-sized display.

Furthermore, the Redmi 7 is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 632 SoC and it packs a 4,000mAh battery. The Redmi 7 packs a dual-rear camera setup but the TENAA listing image reveals that the Redmi 7A will pack a single AI rear camera. Currently, there is no word about the Redmi 7A as the company is busy launching its flagship Redmi K20 smartphone in China.

Google suspends its business with Huawei as the US government puts the company in a trade blacklist

In a shocking turn of events, Google – the owner of the popular Android OS has suspended business with Chinese smartphone maker Huawei. This includes the transfer of hardware, software along with technical services with the company except the open source licencing. The news comes after the US government and Donald Trump asked to blacklist Huawei around the world. Alphabet Inc’s Google has also cut the Android licence of Huawei and has blocked it from using the major products and services from Google Play Store including Gmail and YouTube.

According to a report by Reuters, further business with Huawei will be blocked and suspended by Google. But the holders of the current Huawei smartphone will be able to use and download the Google application and their updates. A Google spokesperson said, “We are complying with the order and reviewing the implications. For users of our services, Google Play and the security protections from Google Play Protect will continue to function on existing Huawei devices.”

With this suspension and blockage of Google services from Huawei’s smartphones, the Chinese company could take a lot of damage both on the international markets as well as its home market. The biggest problem for Huawei will be that the future smartphones that the company will launch won’t get support of Android updates or the popular Google services.

According to Reuters, “Huawei will only be able to use the public version of Android and will not be able to get access to proprietary apps and services from Google.”

The US government led by Donald Trump on Thursday added Huawei to a trade blacklist which was enacted into action immediately. It basically means that the Chinese company won’t be able to do business with many of the other American companies, and Google is certainly a key player as it owns the whole Android platform along with many services which goes into making a smartphone.

The US Commerce Department said that it was considering to put restrictions on Huawei to “prevent the interruption of existing network operations and equipment.”

As mentioned above, the Chinese OEM maker will continue to get access to the Android operating system but only the versions that are available via open source license. The open source license of Android by Google is known as the Android Open Source Project (ASOP) and it is publicly available.

But other than that, Google will stop providing the Chinese electronics maker with access, technical support and collaboration. In this regard, Huawei said that it was developing its own technology as a backup plan in case it was blocked from using the Android platform. And some of the new Huawei technology is already being sold in the Chinese market.

Although Huawei has the right to use the Open Licensed Android system on its devices but it won’t be able to use Google services on its smartphones. Those services include popular apps such as – Gmail, YouTube, Google Play Store and so on. To use these services, the company needs to take commercial permission from Google itself.

It might not be a good news for the existing users of the Huawei smartphones but as we mentioned earlier, people who already own a device from the company will still be able to use Google’s services. Users will also be able to get the app updates, but it is highly unlikely that they will be receiving the new Android updates on their devices.

Oppo Reno with dual rear cameras teased on Flipkart before its official launch

0

Oppo recently announced that its youth-centric sub-brand – Oppo Reno – will be coming to India this month. Two variants of the smartphone have been launched in China recently – Oppo Reno and the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Edition. The launch date of both these devices in the Indian market has been set to May 28, 2019. The Chinese smartphone maker is set to hold a launch event where it is expected to launch both of its devices – the Oppo Reno and the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Edition. But ahead of the official launch, Flipkart has made a landing/teaser page of the upcoming Oppo Reno. With the availability of the teaser page, it has been confirmed that the devices will be available on the Indian e-commerce platform, Flipkart.

In addition to this, Flipkart has mentioned the Oppo Reno smartphones under its ‘Home of Flagships’ page along with the newly launched Google Pixel 3a-series. The device listed on the platform sports a dual-rear camera setup and a full screen display. The dual-rear camera setup hints at the regular Oppo Reno smartphone instead of the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Edition. This could mean that the company will be bringing the regular Oppo Reno to the Indian audience and we could see the Zoom Edition version sometime later. The landing page also hasn’t mentioned the date of the actual sale or the pricing of the device.

The landing page of the Oppo Reno on Flipkart has also put a ‘Notify Me’ button which the customers can click to get more details about the handset. Once the smartphone is available for sale of pre-orders, the users will be notified, and will be able to book the device. Prior to the launch, the accessories of the Oppo Reno smartphones has also been made available on the e-commerce platform. The accessories of the Oppo Reno and the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Edition includes a tempered glass, leather pouch, back covers and so on. Although Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Edition hasn’t been put on the landing page yet, its accessories have been made available on Flipkart. This hints at the launch and availability of the device in India, but there is a possibility that the Zoom Edition variant of the device might see a later availability date than the regular Oppo Reno smartphone.

And since the Oppo Reno has been teased by Flipkart, it could mean that the device will be exclusively available on the e-commerce platform itself. For more details we will have to wait till the device launches in the Indian market next week.

Other things that have been confirmed via leaks is its rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and a Red coloured variant. Some camera samples clicked by the Redmi Note 7S smartphone were also shared by the company and these included some ‘detailed daylight shots’, a shot from Portrait mode with depth-of-field bokeh effects some ‘amazing low-light shots.’

It is being speculated that Xiaomi might launch the China variant of the Redmi Note 7 in India today.

The China variant of the handset comes with a dual rear camera setup with a 48MP Samsung ISOCELL GM-1 sensor clubbed with a 5MP depth sensor. It has a 6.3-inch full-HD+ LTPS display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9, 84% NTSC colour gamut, Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and the screen is protected with 2.5D curved glass. Powered by 2.2GHz Snapdragon 660 octa-core SoC coupled with Adreno 512 GPU, the smartphone comes with up to 6GB of RAM and up to 64GB of internal storage. The handset can hold a microSD card of up to 256GB.

For selfies and video calls, the smartphone comes with a 13MP front-facing snapper. The device houses a 4,000mAh battery that has Quick Charge 4 support. The connectivity options of the smartphone include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5, GPS, a 3.5mm audio jack, as well as a USB Type-C port.

Redmi Note 7S price (expected)

If Redmo Note 7S is a rebranded version of the China variant of Redmi Note 7 in India, then we have a fair idea of what to expect in terms of pricing. In China, Redmi Note 7’s base variant with 3GB RAM/32GB storage is priced at CNY 999 (approximately Rs 10,300) and goes up to CNY 1,399 (approximately Rs 14,500) for its most high-end variant that has 6GB RAM and 64GB of storage. In India too, we expect to see similar pricing.

How to save the parking location of your vehicle on Google Maps (Android and iOS)

Google Maps is one of the most useful apps today. It can be tremendously beneficial for getting directions of locations we have never been to and finding nearby places. However, there is a lot more that you can do with Google Maps. A small but useful feature that Google Maps has is that it can save parking location of your vehicle.

It can often be very frustrating to look where your vehicle is parked if you are a place where hundreds of people may have used the parking space apart from you. If you often find yourself in a difficult position looking for your car after spending the day at a mall or watching movies, we are here to help you. Here’s how you will be able to save your parking location on Google Maps app:

Save the parking location on Google Maps for iPhone

  • Once you have parked your car, open Google Maps and tap on the blue dot which represents your current location.
  • From the list of options that appear, choose ‘Set your parking location.’
  • You can also send the location to your friends via the ‘Share’ button. You will be able to find it in the ‘Saved parking’ bar at the bottom of the app.

To find your parking spot in Google Maps for iOS, go to ‘Saved parking’ bar and choose the option of ‘Directions’. This will show you step-by-step directions back to the spot where your car is parked. You can tap on the ‘Clear’ button to remove the saved location.

Save the parking location on Google Maps for Android

  • The process of saving parking location on Google Maps for Android is very similar to how it is done on Android. But then, the Android version has some extra features. Here’s how you have to go about it:
  • Park your car, open Google Maps while you are at that location and tap on the blue dot.
  • Choose ‘Save your parking’ from the list of options that appear.
  • You can send your location to other people using the ‘Share’ option under ‘Parking location’ bar.

Choose the option of ‘Enter notes’ to save additional information like a spot number in the place you have parked your vehicle. You can also tap on the box under ‘Add Photos’ to add an image that will help you remember where your vehicle is parked. These two options will be found in the ‘Parking location’ car at the bottom.

The way to find your parking spot in Maps for Android is identical to the one in iOS.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 5G to come with a lesser than expected battery: Report

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 has started creating news months before its scheduled launch. But then, this time is slightly different because it is not in news because of an upcoming new feature, but because Samsung has revealed a potentially fatal flaw in the device.

Samsung specialist site GalaxyClub has shared a submission by the company to South Korea’s official testing institute KTR. The document has certification of the new Galaxy Note 10 battery, and before you get your hopes high, we should tell you that its lesser than you expect it to be.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 is listed to have a 4,170mAh battery, which is just 170mAh than the 4,000mAh battery of the Galaxy Note 9. However, what makes this is a flaw is the fact that Samsung Galaxy Note 10 is a much bigger device than Galaxy Note 9 as it is reported to have a 6.75-inch screen. Other than this, it will also have 5G connectivity.

We should point out that Samsung Galaxy S10 5G has a 4,500mAh battery. If you are wondering how exactly we can toe the KTR-submitted battery to Samsung Galaxy Note 10 5G. The submission has the product number EB-BN972ABU and Samsung batteries are known to carry the product code of their intended smartphone within them which is usually followed by ‘B’, which stands for the battery.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 range starts with the N970 and that is reserved for the 4G version of the smartphone. So the BN972 has to be for the Exynos or Snapdragon 5G edition of Galaxy Note 10.

Considering that Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus’ 4G variant came with 400mAh lesser battery than the 5G model if Samsung does something similar for its Note series, the regular version of the Galaxy Note 8 will house a 3,800mAh battery, which will be a drop.

But then, since its months ahead of the launch and Samsung has not said anything about it so far, we should take this information with a pinch of salt. With upgraded cameras, RAM and storage, there is very little reason for the company to lessen the battery of its smartphone.

In a piece of unrelated news, Samsung Galaxy Fold issues have been resolved. However, the South Korean technology giant has not revealed the new launch date of its first foldable smartphone. Soon after Samsung gave the devices to members of the tech press, it was reported to break by a few reviewers.

oneplus 7 pro 2

Zen Mode is a new feature in OnePlus smartphones that is a lot like Google’s Digital Wellbeing. This mode makes the smartphone unusable for 20 minutes. It cannot be cancelled once activated and it mutes all notifications for the stipulated period of time. However, it lets users make emergency calls. But then, all the apps on the smartphone will be disabled apart from the Camera app. Even restarting your smartphone wouldn’t cancel Zen mode.

Comes with Snapdragon 855 SoC and 12GB RAM

Stereo speakers

oneplus 7 pro 6

OnePlus 7 Pro comes with Stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos. So basically, when you are watching a video or listening to music, the sound will blast from the top as well as the bottom edge of the smartphone. Wouldn’t that make the video and gaming experience so much better?

OnePlus 7 Pro’s primary camera has a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor that has an f/1.6 aperture and 1.6-micron pixels (4-in-1). The presence of Liquid Cool technology on OnePlus 7 Pro makes it a great smartphone for gaming. Mostly, this technology is only present on smartphones that are specifically meant for gaming. Xiaomi Black Shark 2 to launch in India in the last week of May

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is all set to launch its Black Shark 2 smartphone in India this month. According to an industry insider, the company will be unveiling its gaming-centric smartphone in the country in the last week of May. However, he did not disclose a specific date of the launch of Xiaomi Black Shark 2.

We should mention that Black Shark 2 is the second iteration of the Xiaomi’s sub-brand Black Shark, which only makes gaming smartphones. Prior to this, the company has two smartphones under the sub-brand: Black Shark and Black Shark Helo. Both the handsets were launched in 2018, however, their rollout was limited to the Chinese and the European markets.

However, considering that India has always been a very important market for the brand, and it has a massive gaming audience, it was only a matter of time before the company launched a device from its Black Shark series in the country. Here’s a look at the expected pricing and specifications of the smartphone:

Xiaomi Black Shark 2 specifications

As we mentioned, Xiaomi Black Shark 2 has already been launched in China and Europe. So, we don’t really have to guess the specifications as its highly unlikely that they would change. Powered by the Snapdragon 855 SoC, Xiaomi Black Shark 2 comes in three RAM variations – 6GB, 8GB or 12GB. The handset is available in 128GB and 256GB storage variants. Black Shark 2 smartphone features a 6.39-inch AMOLED display that has a pixels resolution of 1080 x 2340. The company has also added that Black Shark 2 uses the world’s first ‘direct touch multilayer liquid cooling system’ that is claimed to keep the CPU 14-degrees cooler.

Black Shark 2 also has a dual-rear camera setup on its back panel that comprises of a 12MP primary camera with an f/1.7 aperture and a 12MP secondary camera with 2x optical zoom and an f/2.2 aperture. The smartphone also has a 20MP selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture on its front panel. The Black Shark 2 houses a 4,000mAh battery and has a fingerprint scanner embedded on its display. Since its a gaming smartphone, it comes with a higher refresh rate, a better CPU, better cooling, rugged built, accessories or sleek design.

Xiaomi Black Shark 2 price (expected)

In China, Xiaomi Black Shark 2’s base model with 6GB RAM/128GB storage is priced at CNY 3,200 (approximately Rs 32,647) while the 12GB RAM/256GB storage variant bears a price tag of CNY 4,200(approximately Rs 42,849). In India, the smartphone will directly be competing with the likes of the Asus ROG Phone.

Xbox One’s May 2019 Update shows if friends are playing on PC console

0

Software giant Microsoft has today started rolling out its latest May 2019 Update to the Xbox. The latest update adds some improvements to the friend list and messaging. If you have friends who have Xbox Live and play games across PC and Xbox One, now you can get to know from your dashboard friend list where exactly they are playing. Some new icons will show you that whether your friends are playing on Xbox One, PC or mobile.

We should mention that some of the games that can be played on Xbox are cross-platform. It is also worth noticing that Xbox Live users would no longer have to invite people into games that don’t let players play across PC and Xbox One.

In addition to this, Microsoft is also adding a feature for message requests. This feature will filter out messages that are not from our friends in a separate tab. We should add that this will particularly be useful is the user uses LFG services. For those unaware, LFG services require a lot more Xbox messages. The company has decided to wipe out all the existing group messages to enable this new feature. It would let users copy them from Xbox.com for a “limited time”, so you should hurry up if you want to save any. Individual messages from friends will not be affected by this move.

Another feature that will be added as a part of May 2019 update is an improved way of looking for games and apps. With the update, the games on Xbox One will be sorted better in My Games & Apps section. It will also have titles like The Witcher under ‘W’ section instead of the ‘T’.

Yesterday, Sony and Microsoft announced a partnership to use each other’s services and platforms in order to develop new and improved image sensors. The new partnership would enable Sony to use Microsoft’s cloud for streaming games and media.

However, we should mention that the partnership between the two companies is still in its early stages, some aspects of the deal still have to be determined. With the partnership, two of the biggest players in the gaming services would be seen coming together to bring their resources together and develop new tools for game developers.

It is worth noticing that Sony is the maker of PlayStation consoles and other games while Microsoft makes Xbox consoles and games. Speaking about the partnership, the CEO of Sony, Kenichiro Yoshida said, “For many years, Microsoft has been a key business partner for us, though of course the two companies have also been competing in some areas. I believe that our joint development of future cloud solutions will contribute greatly to the advancement of interactive content.”

Stanley Black & Decker launches STANLEY Earth to empower farmers in India

Stanley Black & Decker has launched STANLEY Earth in India this week. The company’s new brand will focus on “purpose-driven product technologies” that can be used for social good. The company has said that with the launch of STANLEY Earth, it eyes to leverage its core technical expertise and broad partnership network to come up with solutions that address various societal needs and sustainable development challenges regarding water, energy, and climate.

STANLEY Earth’s first product that will be launched in India is NADI, which is aligned with the solar agricultural revolution that is going on in the country. The company has said that it is an eco-friendly, efficient solar-powered brushless DC water pump that will facilitate irrigation for agricultural applications for farmers across the country. We should mention that NADI uses STANLEY’s brushless direct current (BLDC) motor technology to drive the pump along with solar panels that power the entire system.

Commenting on the launch of STANLEY Earth in India, Jim Loree, President and CEO, Stanley Black & Decker said, “The world around us is facing a growing number of increasingly critical societal issues today. As a company which makes products and services that help create and shape our world, we have an obligation to leverage our resources and expertise to create new solutions to address these very challenges. Our new brand STANLEY Earth is a reflection of our commitment to ‘Innovating with Purpose,’ a core pillar of our CSR Strategy and 22/22 Vision.”

“The launch of products like these will play a key role in helping our company create positive change and get us closer to achieving our goal of enhancing the lives of 500 million people. We want to be reckoned as a force for good in alignment with our purpose, for those who make the world,” Loree added.

Stanley Black & Decker also said in a press note that NADI offers a sustainable alternative to the 25 million inefficient diesel and alternating current (AC) pumps that are being used for agriculture. This draws up almost 20% of the electricity generated in the country and poses a huge environmental pollution challenge.

The smart pump has an intelligent controller that enables micro-irrigation. It incorporates an IOT-based agricultural platform complete with sensors that connect to the cloud and mobile networks, providing real-time data on the pump health along with key environmental metrics. This will enable farmers to efficiently monitor pump performance and conduct preventive maintenance as needed.

“Nearly two years ago, we set out on a mission to deliver a self-sustaining irrigation solution that can provide millions of farmers in India, a solution to one of their key challenges – reliable and consistent access to clean water,” said Ramana Gogula Vice President of Clean Technology Innovation at Stanley Black & Decker.

Compare: Asus Zenfone 6 and OnePlus 7 Pro and Samsung Galaxy A80

This week saw the launch of two new powerful flagship smartphones: Asus Zenfone 6 and OnePlus 7 Pro. Asus Zenfone 6 comes with a rotating camera like the one we saw on Samsung Galaxy A80, and it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, much like the OnePlus 7 Pro. We should mention that this the most powerful processor available right now. Here, we compare Asus Zenfone 6, OnePlus 7 Pro and Samsung Galaxy A80 so that you can decide which among the three is the best buy for you:

Display

Asus Zenfone 6: 6.4-inch full-HD+ IPS screen with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9

OnePlus 7 Pro: 6.67-inch curved Quad HD+ (1440×3120 pixels) Fluid AMOLED display

Samsung Galaxy A80: 6.7-inch Full HD+ display

The clear winner here is the flagship from OnePlus as its Fluid AMOLED display is a better quality screen than Full HD+ ones from the two companies. Although Samsung Galaxy A80 is marginally bigger in terms of screen size, we would go for OnePlus because its display is supposed to be one among its key features.

Processor

Asus Zenfone 6: Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC

OnePlus 7 Pro: Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC with 7nn Kyro chipset

Samsung Galaxy A80: Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G SoC

If performance is important to you, you can pick either the newly launched smartphone from Asus or the one from OnePlus. They both are powered by Snapdragon 855 SoC, which is the most powerful processor in the world.

Rear camera(s)

Asus Zenfone 6: 48MP primary sensor with an f/1.79 aperture + 13MP ultra-wide-angle sensor

OnePlus 7 Pro: 48MP primary Sony IMX586 sensor that has an f/1.6 aperture + 8MP telephoto sensor that has an f/2.4 aperture and 3X zoom + 16MP wide-angle sensor that has an f/2.2 aperture and a field of view of 117 degrees.

Samsung Galaxy A80: 48MP primary sensor + an 8MP ultra-wide sensor + a 3D depth sensor

OnePlus’ flagship smartphone offers a triple rear camera setup with a 48MP primary sensor, and telephoto and wide-angle sensors. The Galaxy A80 also offers a triple rear camera setup with a 48MP primary sensor but it has an ultra-wide sensor and a 3D depth sensor. We recommend you to pick either of the two depending on which sensor you want.

Selfie camera

Asus Zenfone 6: 48MP primary sensor with an f/1.79 aperture + 13MP ultra-wide-angle sensor

OnePlus 7 Pro: 16MP pop-up selfie camera

Samsung Galaxy A80: 48MP primary sensor + an 8MP ultra-wide sensor + a 3D depth sensor

This one is very clear. Pick the Samsung or the Asus if you want a good selfie camera. Who wouldn’t want a 48MP selfie camera?

RAM and storage

Asus Zenfone 6: 8GB of RAM + 256GB storage

OnePlus 7 Pro: 6GB/8GB/12GB RAM with 128GB/256GB storage

Samsung Galaxy A80: 8GB RAM and 128GB storage

If you want a massive RAM, then go for the OnePlus. It offers a 12GB RAM with a 256GB onboard storage. The other two offer 8GB RAM, which is also quite a lot, but wouldn’t give as smooth an experience as a 12GB RAM phone.

Support for microSD card

Asus Zenfone 6: Up to 2TB

OnePlus 7 Pro: No

Samsung Galaxy A80: No

Battery

Asus Zenfone 6: 5,000mAh battery that has support for Quick Charge 4.0

OnePlus 7 Pro: 4,000mAh battery with Warp Charge 30W fast charging technology

Samsung Galaxy A80: 3,700mAh battery with 25W Super-Fast Charging support

In terms of battery, the newly launched smartphone from Asus is the best option to go with as it leaves the other two behind in terms of battery capacity.

Operating system

Asus Zenfone 6: Android 9.0 Pie skinned with Zen UI 6

OnePlus 7 Pro: Android 9.0 Pie skinned with OxygenOS

Samsung Galaxy A80: Android 9.0 Pie is skinned with Samsung’s One UI
