The Facebook Gaming app is aimed at live-streaming gameplay just like its rival counterparts Twitch, YouTube, and Mixer. Earlier the gaming app was scheduled for a June launch but taking the best advantage of the pandemic situation the company decided to introduce the app at the best time when all the other gaming platforms are blooming as people including kids are confined to home to reduce the risk of coronavirus and are spending hours gaming having not many available options to lessen the boredom.

The company Facebook announced the Gaming app via Twitter. The tweet reads, “We know you’ve waited patiently. Well, folks, the day has come: we’re launching FarmVille in VR! j/k, sorry, kind mobs of Twitter, don’t @ us! We’re actually launching the Facebook Gaming app on Google Play.”

Facebook Gaming app

The government launches Say Namaste app as an alternative to Zoom app

In order to take on Zoom video conferencing app  Indian government has launched an alternative to the app called Namaste. Basically it is not an app, it is a video conferencing platform which has been introduced by the government due to security and privacy-related concerns related to the Zoom app which suddenly gained popularity during the lockdown.

The Indian government has imposed lockdown in the country to contain the spread of coronavirus. Due to this the empress in the government, as well as the private sector, have taken up work from home. Also, Federal cyber-agency CERT-In released an advisory for the increased cyber-attacks on virtual private networks. So the government asked its employees to refrain from using the Zoom app for official purposes also in the government offices. Now it has found an alternative to the app and has introduced its  online tool called “Say Namaste”

The new video conferencing platform is currently under beta mode and is available both on mobile as well as a desktop platform. Due to increased demand, the website is facing some connectivity issues. On opening the website it reads, “We are facing tremendous demand for NAMASTE and hence you may face some temporary connectivity issues. Please check back soon”.

Those who are also concerned about their privacy and security can use it as an alternative to the Zoom app. This platform works just like Zoom in which you can create a meeting link and share it with the participants, also allowing group video calls.

According to a report the Namaste video conferencing platform has been designed and developed by Inscripts which is a Mumbai-based web application and software development company. The report says that the app version is likely to get launched by this week for the  Android and iOS users.

The app is currently under the beta testing which means the app’s security features are still unpatched and contains bugs on which the company is still working on which is still unsafe and you cannot totally rely on this app.

You do not need to download or install tool for laptops or desktop platforms. The user can create or join a meeting by visiting their website. You can invite other users to a conference call using a meeting link and a code. To make a call it will request for your camera as well as microphone access which can be turned off when you are on a call.

How to use Namaste for hosting a meeting?

  • You can create a new meeting by visiting the link here.
  • By adding your name you can get Meeting URL, Meeting ID and Meeting code
  • The URL, ID and code can be shared with the other participants to join

COVID-19: Know how Google’s new Optimize feature can help businesses keep their website updated

0

With businesses around the world facing new challenges due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Google has shared ways for the new Optimize feature can help you keep your website updated with the latest information.

Earlier, Google had introduced a new way for businesses to quickly post an informational banner at the top of your website. Here the aim was to help making customers aware of the business hours or whether or not there is a change in services provided.

According to Google, now businesses across the globe can quickly add a message on their websites. All you need to do is once you log into your Optimize account you can add a message to the top of your site by clicking “Add a banner.” For this, one can use Google’s templated banner or customize it by editing the colour, size, and text. “We recommend you use a colour that stands out from the other content on the page. You can also select on which pages of your site the banner should be shown, for example only the homepage or on every page of your site,” as stated by Pawel Matkowski, Product Manager, Google Optimize.

Besides this, one can customize their message based on location. “Let’s say you’re a clothing retailer based in San Francisco and are offering expedited shipping to customers located within the city. Optimize can help you display a customized banner that highlights faster shipping just to users located in San Francisco,” as per a blog post by Google Optimize.

In addition to this, one can use Google Optimize to create a personalisation to temporarily display a different version of their sites to people when they visit. One can stop using this personalisation feature whenever they wish and then the site will go back to displaying its original version.

As per the tech giant, this feature of Google Optimize is “helpful if you want to let your customers know about new ways they can purchase from your business. For example, if you’re a restaurant that is now accepting to-go orders over the phone, you can add your phone number to your home page or make it more visible on your site. Or, if you’re a clothing retailer that is now only accepting online orders, you can update your FAQs page to include your new shipping and return policy.”

Apart from this, Google has also shared some additional recommendations that businesses could consider while updating the websites during this time:

1. Avoid automatic product carousels or animation on your site
If you have information about how customers can order from you on the same page, the carousel or animation could draw attention away from that message, as per a blog post by Google.

2. Make changes to your FAQs page
A blog post by Google has shared, “Your frequently asked questions might be different than what they were last year. Make sure this page highlights what is currently top of mind for your customers. If you need to reduce your customer support load, place your contact information below all other sections to allow users to read your FAQs first.”

3. Limit your messages on your mobile site
The information by Google further added, “Limit your messages on your mobile site to less than 50 characters.” This is because adding longer messages to your customers may display fine on desktop but they probably will be too long on mobile devices. And allow users to close the message if they wish.

Mind you! Google has temporarily removed the restriction for the Optimize users to be able to run only 10 different personalisation modes on their site at the same time. Now until July 31, 2020, users can make as many updates to their sites as they require. Moreover, if you don’t already have an Optimize account, you can create one for free.

Apple’s new AirPods earbuds likely to launch in May: Leak

After announcing the second-generation iPhone SE, news is rife that Apple is now working on a new pair of AirPods and a MacBook Pro likely to be launched in May.

According to popular tipster Jon Prosser, who earlier leaked the exact launch date of the iPhone SE, has now tweeted that Apple will lift curtains of its next-generation AirPods alongside a MacBook Pro next month.

Mind you! This new pair of Airpods and the MacBook Pro devices were supposed to be launched at Apple’s March event which was later called off. However, the tech giant had lifted curtains off the new iPad Pro with LiDAR scanner as well as the new MacBook Air in mid-March.

The rumour mills haven’t yet churned out much information about this upcoming version of AirPods. However, DigiTimes had earlier reported that Apple is said to be working with supply chain partners in Taiwan on several upcoming products, which even comprises of “AirPod Pro Lite.”

Besides this, DigiTimes recently reported that the production of AirPods Pro Lite as well as other Apple products could be delayed as the world is grappling with the Covid-19 pandemic. Owing to this, the report added that shipments would not kickstart before April and the speculated launch time for AirPods Pro Lite could be the month of May.

Details related to specification and price of the AirPods Pro Lite hasn’t surfaced yet. From what we’ve got to know from the sources is that it will be sold at an affordable price point.
Earlier, sources within Apple’s supply chain cited by DigiTimes had stated that AirPods shipments could increase by 50 percent in 2020 on a year-over-year basis.

Mind you! Apple showcases AirPods revenue under its “Wearables, Home, and Accessories” category in its quarterly earnings reports. Therefore, this estimated 90-million-shipment figure of AirPods, which represent 50 percent growth in 2020, would imply 60 million shipments in 2019.

Launched in October 2019, Apple AirPods Pro features Active Noise Cancellation and superior, immersive sound, in an all-new lightweight, in-ear design.

“AirPods are the best-selling headphones in the world. The one-tap setup experience, incredible sound and iconic design have made them a beloved Apple product, and with AirPods Pro, we’re taking the magic even further. The new in-ear AirPods Pro sound amazing with Adaptive EQ, fit comfortably with flexible ear tips and have innovative Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode.” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

Let’s see what features the new upcoming AirPods will deliver once it gets launched.

As COVID-19 grips the entire world, the demand for social distancing has stimulated and created the need for many people to shift from their offices to virtual workplaces. People are locked up in their houses to help prevent the spread of the virus and this inevitably means spending much more time at home than we’re normally used to. Given the circumstances, millions of people are finding ways for isolation-friendly activities to stay entertained during home quarantine and I feel that digital platforms are the safest cohorts for entertainment along with connecting them with the world beyond their windows.

Amidst this, E-sports has seen a surge and found prospects that helps not only to entertain but also maintain a safe distance. Tournaments like Overwatch, League of Legends, PUBG, Dota2, Counterstrike, the fighting game community are some of the trendiest ones amongst the generation Y and Z. Currently, there are about 300 million online gamers in India and the number is expected to grow by 46% to 440 million in two years, according to online market researcher Statista.

Gaming in India is growing rapidly and has become a bristling career option as well for many of the budding millennials. The growth in gaming among millennials has been dramatic and swift. In fact, there are several options available to enjoy gaming divergently through PCs and with the addition of AR and VR, joystick, motion play, etc which have undergone many avatars.

I remember, as a retro kid, I seemed to have developed an interest playing Super Mario, Pac-Man around 80’s when these games were just introduced in India. However, this was quite different than what we see today, with millennials dedicated to it and choosing it a career option. Back in 2020, in my newfound free time, I like bestowing some bit of it playing games on my PC while I take few short breaks from my regular work hours and this isn’t just out of boredom but an intrinsic desire to be engaged.

But now as we fight boredom at home during this quarantine, there are some productive and fun things to do at home. You can utilise this opportunity to realign your goals, learn something new and change your life’s path. Here are a few ideas you can look at to entertain yourselves.

Projectors can be your perfect companion: We have been seeing projectors for many years. However, some latest ones embedded with new technologies have been dominating the market and is being considered as the best companion, especially during this lockdown period. They are handy enough to be carried anywhere with ease. You can also set up a home movie theatre and by projecting a new release or family classic on any blank wall. Just ensure you pop up some popcorns and enjoy the show!

Enhance your photography/editing skills: Over the years I have come to consider myself a bit of a technology nerd, perhaps it’s because I spend more time with my PC that allows me to keep track of the latest trends in the industry. But this doesn’t stop you to explore your hobby or something you are passionate about besides your usual day to day work. Off late, we see a lot of people who are obsessed with creativity and are finding ways to explore that. Well, there are some amazing laptops available with powerful processors and graphics that can help bring out the hidden talent in you and what best time than this to learn and explore more on it.

Become a pro gamer: We can’t deny that there are so many amazing gaming PCs available in the market right now and this could be a good chance for all you budding gamers out there to practice gaming and play along with your friends which also gives you a chance to stay safe and stay connected. There are many gaming PCs that provides you with an immersive experience and packed with the most cutting-edge internals possible such as the RTX graphic cards, processors etc. So, grab hold of one and start gaming!

WiFi: That’s the base of everything we do while working. Internet is important and the faster it is, the better. A good Wi-Fi router with wide coverage and anything above 60mbps is probably good to do most of your work.

Wearable Gaming: VR is likely to seep into the mainstream now. Gaming has reached to us through the formats of virtual headsets, AR/VR, Myo Gaming, I-wear, Hand machines interface, etc. which can be worn and experienced for exciting know-how.

While this is a challenging time for all of us, digitalization has proved a welcome diversion for many people in this time of the pandemic. Hopefully, these practices can help you navigate this new terrain and make the most out of at-home.

COVID-19: Microsoft to host remote learning #MSFTEduChat TweetMeet for educators on April 21

0

With distance learning becoming a new normal as the world is facing unprecedented times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, educators from across the global are rapidly modifying their lessons for use in digital classrooms. In order to support the teachers in making this transition to online learning, Microsoft is hosting a special-edition TweetMeet on April 21 at 10:00 AM Pacific Time (10:30 PM IST) about the topic Remote Learning.

In this 74-minute session, Microsoft has invited 200 former hosts back to guide the conversation in many different languages. During the meeting, a blogpost by Microsoft revealed that the focus would be on questions like: What practices and solutions are working best for you? How are you making it all happen? What keeps your students engaged? How do you provide a socially and emotionally supportive environment for everyone involved?

According to Microsoft, “We have five discussion questions lined up this month, allowing 14 minutes of discussion time each:

  1. How are you making the transition to remote learning? Share stories.
  2. How do you ensure that all your students are engaged?
  3. How do you care for the well-being of your students, colleagues and community?
  4. What are your best tips and resources to support remote learning?
  5. What lessons can be learned from teaching and learning under the present circumstances?”

Besides this, Microsoft has stated that if an educator is conducting a class at the time of the event, busy doing other things, or asleep, they can participate any time after the event. They can simply look at the questions and share their respective respond as per time and date that’s suitable for them.

Moreover, educators can also schedule their tweets prior to the meet. They simply need to ensure that they include the entire question in their tweet and the hashtag #MSFTEduChat, so that everyone knows how their responses align to the event questions and conversations.

Microsoft has further revealed that “#MSFTEduChat TweetMeets are global and multilingual conversations on Twitter, facilitated by Microsoft Education. Our events take place every third Tuesday of the month. Every month we choose a new topic that is relevant for educators.”

Meanwhile, Microsoft’s Minecraft: Education Edition is now available through June 2020 for all educators and learners who have a valid Office 365 Education account.

COVID-19: Samsung Galaxy Watch ‘Hand Wash’ app prompts users to clean their hands

0

Ever since the rise of COVID-19 pandemic, we all have watched those several videos where people could be seen washing their hands while humming the ‘Happy Birthday’ song twice to make sure that the hands are washed at least for 20 seconds as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). Now, Samsung has built a ‘Hand Wash’ app for Galaxy Watch that prompts users to clean their hands, a key preventive attribute to stay safe.

In order to create this ‘Hand Wash’ app for the Galaxy Watch, Samsung Research Institute-Bangalore’s UX and wearable teams worked remotely round-the-clock over the last two weeks in order to come up with a solution that helps the users keep healthy and safe.

“The ‘Hand Wash’ app on Galaxy Watch helps users maintain hand hygiene by periodically reminding them about it and ensuring each wash is thorough for the duration of 20 seconds in line with WHO recommended best practices,” as revealed by official Samsung blog post.

The ‘Hand Wash’ app for Samsung Galaxy Watch, which comes with pre-set reminders which users can customize further based on their needs and schedule, tracks the time and provides users with haptic feedback after 25 seconds of wash cycle. According to the tech giant, “Five seconds are for turning on the tap and applying soap, while 20 seconds are for actual hand wash.”

Moreover, the Samsung Galaxy Watch ‘Hand Wash’ app also notifies users if they miss any of scheduled pit stops to the wash basin!

Besides this, the ‘Hand Wash’ app also showcases an elegant watch face that allows users to intuitively track their daily wash routine as it reveals the elapsed time since last wash to give users a sense of alertness about their hygiene in real time. The ‘Hand Wash’ app can be downloaded by Samsung Galaxy Watch users through the Galaxy Store.

Meanwhile, Samsung India teams have engaged with various governments, local authorities, and healthcare professionals to prepare a broad and meaningful strategy in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The tech giant has announced measures to support local administration and community in Noida, by equipping hospitals with medical equipment required in the preventive drive against the pandemic.

In the continuous endeavour to support the fight against Covid-19, Samsung also pledged a contribution of Rs 20 crore to the Union and State governments in India. While Samsung will be donating Rs 15 crore to the PM Cares Fund, it will be giving out Rs 5 crore to Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu to support India’s fight against the COVID-19 outbreak.

0

Good news for gamers. After 26 years since the last episode of the Streets of Rage series, the 4th chapter is finally launching with Battle Mode on April 30 on PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One for $24.99.

“Battle Mode lets you select your favourite characters and test your skills against one to three friends across several memorable levels. While it’s true that Streets of Rage 4 is all about cooperation, we thought it would be fun to let you guys play around with the characters and discover which of them is the most powerful, and which ones best suit your playing style. Whether you want to train your combos and specials, or just have some fun, Battle Mode is the place to do it – and it will be available right from the start,” said Cyrille Imbert, Executive Producer of Streets of Rage 4.

“Everyone at Dotemu, Lizardcube, and Guard Crush Games is super excited to finally make this dream a reality. As huge Streets of Rage fans ourselves, we can’t wait for you to play and enjoy the game,” added Imbert.

Street of Rage 4 will support two-player online and up to four-player offline co-op when it launches on April 30. This feud-settling battleground is bound to help rivals recognize who truly is Wood Oak City’s finest alley-clearing ruffian, as well as settle grudges spurred by accidental friendly strikes during multiplayer sessions.

Streets of Rage 4 is the series’ first mainline entry in more than 25 years, reuniting Axel, Blaze, Adam, and introducing new fighters a decade after the events of Streets of Rage 2. The new character, Floyd, dishes out serious damage with his incredibly strong cybernetic arms, a cutting-edge upgrade courtesy of Streets of Rage 3’s playable cyborg, Dr. Zan. Although Floyd’s movement and health recovery are slower than most, he boasts the longest reach among the playable roster and tremendous power, ensuring any combo he puts an enemy through will be devastating.

With devastating new combat abilities, fluid animation, and original music from franchise composers Yūzō Koshiro (Streets of Rage 1, 2, & 3, Sonic the Hedgehog), Motohiro Kawashima (Streets of Rage 2 & 3, Shinobi II) and a renowned team of contributing musicians, Streets of Rage 4 celebrates the iconic series’ past while offering an inventive, skull-crackling brawl all its own. Everyday Gmail is blocking more than 100 million phishing emails related to COVID-19

0

The software tech giant Google on Friday revealed that in the past one week it has blocked more than 18 million malware as well as phishing emails all related to COVID-19. According to the company, these phishing attacks generally try to trick the users while exposing their personal data.

The company in its blog post said that phishing is one of the most effective methods that attackers use to compromise accounts and gain access to company data and resources. The bad actors are creating new attacks and scams every day that attempt to take advantage of the fear and uncertainty surrounding the pandemic.

Gmail every day blocks more than 100 million phishing emails. But in the last week, it identified 18 million daily malware and phishing emails related to COVID-19. In addition to this more than 240 million COVID-related daily spam messages.

The software giant said these phishing attacks and scams make use of both fear and financial incentives to create urgency to try to prompt users to respond. The company also provided examples to prove their point. These emails do an impression of authoritative government organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) seeking fraudulent donations or distributing malware such as downloadable files that can install backdoors. Also, it presented examples showing increased phishing attempts of employees operating in a work-from-home setting, imitating government institutions to phish small businesses.

Addressing the security and privacy issue the company has put proactive monitoring in place for COVID-19-related malware and phishing across our systems and workflows.

“As soon as we identify a threat, we add it to the Safe Browsing API, which protects users in Chrome, Gmail, and all other integrated products. Safe Browsing helps protect over four billion devices every day by showing warnings to users when they attempt to navigate to dangerous sites or download dangerous files. In G Suite, advanced phishing and malware controls are turned on by default, ensuring that all G Suite users automatically have these proactive protections in place,” the company said.
