Apple to break out Music, Podcasts and Video into separate apps for macOS 10.15: Report

Apple’s media management software iTunes, which is far from being a fan favourite, may be closed down soon. According to a new report that has surfaced online, the Cupertino based technology giant is all set to break up the software into separate Music, TV and Podcasts app in the next version of macOS.

The news about this development was broken by Guilherme Rambo at 9to5Mac and Steve Troughton-Smith. Both of them have said that the new apps will be Marzipan applications, much like Apple News app on the Mac. These apps will share an overarching design and codebase with their iOS counterparts that are used on the iPhone and iPad.

It has been reported that the Music app will focus on offering a home for the Apple Music service away from iTunes. The new TV app will be a place for Apple’s upcoming new service, Apple TV Plus. And needless to say, the Podcasts app will get podcasts. The Books app, which is already on macOS, will also be getting a similar Marzipan redesign that will make it more like the updated app that was released by Apple last year, along with iOS 12.

It would be safe to assume that like Book Store, Apple would soon be breaking out the music, TV & movie and podcast portions of the iTunes store into respective apps too. However, as of now, there isn’t too much information available about them being broken into individual apps.

We should add here that the move makes sense on Apple’s part ad iTunes is a very old software, and many of its users are not too fond of it. By breaking it up, Apple would be able to create apps that are not bloated and come with modern designs. And needless to say, a lot of users are really looking forward to this.

With this, the technology giant is looking to push code-base Marzipan apps in a big way on macOS. And to begin with, it has chosen one among the clunkiest apps to show developers how much beneficial it can be. It is also worth mentioning that macOS will be put in line with iOS with this move, as the latter has dedicated apps for various purposes for ages now.

However, iTunes is not dying so soon. The app will stick around for a while as it is the only way to sync and interact with iPod and other iOS devices.

Don’t like your PSN name? PlayStation now lets you change it

0

There’s some good news for PlayStation users who don’t like their PSN name. Starting today, Japanese electronics maker Sony will now let users change their PSN names. The feature initially launched in beta in October last year, and now, the company has made it available to all. If you don’t like your PSN name, you will be able to change your name via your PS console or through a browser.

However, make sure that you don’t do it often. The first time you change your username, it will be free. But then, it will cost you $9.99 each time. For PlayStation subscribers, it will be more affordable than it will be for others. They would have to pay $4.99 each time after the first.

But then, there’s one good thing too. If you want to go back to a PSN name that you used earlier, you will be able to do it for free. In order to keep it simple for your friends to recognise you with your new PSN name, PlayStation also has an option to display your old name next to the new one for 30 days.

It is worth adding that most games on PlayStation 4 that have been released on either April 1, 2018, or after that should work perfectly well with your new PSN name. This is because it was only then that developers started using tools that enabled a user to change his name at the system level. Sony has said that a “large majority of the most actively played PS4 games” will work fine. However, this does not guarantee any support for it.

Sony has also published a list of a number of games that will experience no issues, games with known issues and those who have critical issues. In case there are issues in the game, problems can range from minor oddities like your previous PSN name popping up time and again, to some extreme ones.

We should add here that exclusive games like God of War and Spider-Man make the date cut-off. However, a number of them that were released before April 1, 2018, are a part of the ‘games with issues identifies’ list. Games that do have issues include Bloodborne, Grand Theft Auto V, Warframe, Uncharted 4 among others.

The Japanese electronics maker has also said that in case a user is facing issues, reverting back to your old PSN name should resolve most of them. However, there is no guarantee for this as well. With so many warnings and disclaimers, we would completely think it through before we change our PSN name.

Uber Vouchers service launched in India, aimed at businesses

0

Cab hailing company Uber has today introduced Uber Vouchers in India that are designed for businesses so that they can make their customers’ lives by sponsoring transportation for them. In short, it means that now companies can book Uber to serve as their transportation platform if they wish to help their customers move from one place to other.

Commenting on the launch, Ronnie Gurion, General Manager and Global Head of Uber for Business said, “With the international launch of this feature, Uber’s goal is to unlock an additional growth lever for businesses by creating an innovative way to bring customers to their door or wherever they need to go. As companies look for new technology and novel ways to engage with consumers, Vouchers provide a perk that businesses know their customers will use.”

The Uber Vouchers is developed on the Uber for Business (U4B) platform and has already been tested in more than 100 partners on a global scale. The Uber Vouchers will now be available globally in most countries where Uber operates, which includes India as well.

How Uber Business works:

Businesses in India can sign up for Uber Vouchers by visiting the uber.com/vouchers. Once they sign up, the U4B’s Guest Services team will be made available to support the businesses as they use and integrate the Vouchers.

Getting started with Uber Business is pretty simple, as businesses can use the Uber Vouchers to offer discounted Uber trips to one or many of their customers. The Businesses can also create customized voucher campaigns and programs with parameters, budget, specified pick-up and drop-off locations as well as a set time for an offer. With Business Vouchers, Uber has given the business owners the ability to tailor their own events, promote their services using a web dashboard and U4B’s Guest Services team will be available to support businesses.

Once a Voucher program is created by the business, they can send the Vouchers to their customers by choosing any distribution method – via email, social media, mobile messaging, etc. The companies who will offer the vouchers will only pay for the rides redeemed under the Voucher campaign along with any applicable administrative fees.

When a rider receives a Voucher and clicks to redeem the link, it is automatically added to their Uber app. The Voucher will remain in the app until it expires. The customers who receive these Vouchers can also apply it directly to their existing Uber account. If they don’t have an Uber account then they will be promoted to download the app to redeem the discounted trip via the Voucher.

The businesses can see how many of their generated Vouchers have been redeemed or used within a dedicated dashboard. The data can also be exported to streamline reporting and billing.

According to Uber, the Uber Voucher feature can be used by businesses such as retailers, restaurants or offices who have to move customers, employees or themselves from one place to other frequently. It can also be used by the hospitality sector or in the insurance space. The feature delivers a real-time solution to the consumers to provide them with additional choice and flexibility in their transportation, while also reducing operational processes and costs for their business.

Fortnite update 8.30 brings Respawn Vans and Respawn Cards

0

Epic Games’ popular battleroyale game Fortnite has rolled out a new update that holds the version number 8.30 and it will be released on April 10 after 5am ET (2:30pm IST). The new update was a much awaited one because it brings a new feature from the game’s rival Apex Legends – Reboot Bus. The Reboot Bus/Respawn Vans allows the players to revive their ‘dead’ squad mates. Earlier this feature was not available in Fortnite and it made its debut in the Apex Legends.

The Reboot Van is the new feature being introduced in the new update of Fortnite. According to a video from Epic Games, with the addition of Reboot Vans, the players of the game will be able to revive or bring their dead teammates back to life just like Apex Legends’ respawn beacon. For this, the players would need to pick the Reboot Cards which will be on the bodies of the dead/downed teammates or at the place where they died. The players can then pick those cards and activate them at the Respawn Vans which would bring the dead teammate back to life.

Once the Respawn Vans are activated, there will be a visual and audio cue which will let the players nearby know that someone is trying to revive his teammate. It will also make visible the number of players who are being revived.

But it should be noted that the Reboot Vans can bring only one player of a team at one time. It is worth mentioning that the Respawn Vans have cooldown time once they are activated. So, if the players have the Reboot Cards of more than one teammate, then he would need to take turns reviving them. But it will also take time and will make the player who is reviving his teammates vulnerable. So, they need to watch their back, and it will probably better to get all the teammates gather around the Respawn Van and protect each other.

Also, the creators of Fortnite said that the size of update will be increasing due to “technical improvements”. The Android players of the game will have to download the update which will have a file size between 1.56GB to 2.98GB while iOS players’ update file will be between 1.14GB and 1.76GB.

The new update 8.30 of Fortnite will be available for all the gaming consoles and platforms the game runs on and their download sizes will be different as well. The update of Fortnite can be downloaded from the official Fortnite website or they can follow the update notification. Epic Games also said that the mobile players of Fortnite with less than 6GB of space would need to re-download the game.

Given below is the download sizes of the platforms:

Fortnite download size for update 8.30

  • PC: 6.93GB
  • Mac: 7.7GB
  • PS4: 3.9GB
  • Xbox: 4.06GB
  • Nintendo Switch: 3.93GB
  • iOS: 1.14 – 1.76GB
  • Android: 1.56 – 2.98GB

0

Chinese smartphone brand OnePlus will soon be seen launching the OnePlus 7 handset, and prior to its launch, some details of the upcoming device have been leaked. Or rather, we should say that it is the latest leak about OnePlus 7, since details about the smartphone have been circulating online since months now. The recent leaks reveal that there will be multiple variants of the upcoming OnePlus 7. In addition to this, OnePlus 7 Pro was spotted on the Chinese social networking platform, Weibo which revealed its design, details and specifications. The OnePlus 7 Pro was also spotted on the Bluetooth certification site which further confirms that the device will be launched soon.

OnePlus 7 Pro’s images had been leaked on Weibo which shows that the device will sport a dual edged display that is very similar to the one we saw on Samsung Galaxy S10+. The images further revealed that the OnePlus 7 will have a notch-less and hole-less display similar to the new Oppo or Vivo smartphones, ehich further indicates that the device will pack a pop-up selfie camera. There is also an ‘About Phone’ image leaked alongside the leaked photos that reveals some specifications of the OnePlus 7.

According to the leaked image, the OnePlus 7 Pro sports a 6.67-inch Super Optic display and is powered by a Snapdragon 855 SoC paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. There is also a mention of a triple rear camera setup in the leaked image, which is said to comprise of a 48MP primary sensor, a 16MP sensor and an 8MP sensor. Although the triple rear camera setup is mentioned but the back side of the device has not been revealed in the leaked image. Furthermore, the device seems to run on Android Pie.

Furthermore, the tipster Ishan Agarwal tweeted that the upcoming OnePlus 7 will come in three variants – the OnePlus 7, OnePlus 7 Pro, and the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G. The model numbers for the three device variants will be GM1901, GM1903, and GM1905 for the OnePlus 7, GM1911, GM1913, GM1915, and GM1917 for the OnePlus 7 Pro, and GM1920 for the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G. It should be noted that this is an expected tip so the news should be taken with a pinch of salt as the company hasn’t mentioned anything about the multiple variants of the OnePlus 7.

But is should be noted that the leaked Weibo image shows that the OnePlus 7 has a model number GM1915. Also, the OnePlus 7 with the same model number was spotted on the Bluetooth SIG certification site which further confirms and proves that the leaks might hold more weight than thought.

Google Pixelbook group to launch new laptops and tablets in future: Here are all the details

A recent report suggested that technology giant Google may have plans of shifting its employees out of the laptop and tablet division that developed the premium Pixelbooks and Pixel Slate because of ‘roadmap cutbacks’. However, when the report surfaced online last month, Google neither confirmed nor denied it.

But now, the search giant has said that its hardware division is working on new tablets and laptops that may be launched soon. While the previous report emerged on Business Insider, Google gave the recent confirmation to The Verge.

However, even now, Google has not spoken about the details and timing of the launch of the upcoming tablets and laptops. But that doesn’t mean it has not even dropped a hint. According to a report in 9to5Google, Google led a session at its Cloud Nex 2019 conference which was called ‘Introducing Google Hardware for Business.’ At the session, Google suggested that it is working on a new device that will help on-the-go employees in ways that the Pixelbook and Pixel Slate can’t.

Speaking on this, Google’s Pixelbook Group product management lead Steve Jacobs said, “We think there’s some unique things we can do differently than the Pixelbook and Pixel Slate that are going to really help give them what they’re looking for when they’re working in this new modern cloud-first era.”

We should point out that if you go to Jacob’s LinkedIn profile, you will see that he leads three different categories within Google’s Core Technology group – Pixelbook, Pixel Slate and ‘Emerging’. As of now, there is no word on what ‘Emerging’ means, however, Jacob’s speaker profile for Cloud Next says that the focus of the Core Technology group is to look “for new and innovative ways to advance the way we work and play on personal computers.” So, we can assume that it’s another of a personal computer.

It is worth mentioning that although “Google Hardware for Business” is also a new name, it is not a brand new initiative and it seems like it is a part of the company’s prior Chrome Enterprise push.

The technology giant is also said to be quietly working on a new operating system named Fuchsia, that may replace both Android and Chrome OS in the future. However, Google has always maintained that Fuchsia is just an experimental project that it is working on.

The company will be hosting its Google I/O developer conference in May this year, and it will be unveiled its Android Q operating system at the event.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 and 665 chips launched, aimed at mid-range smartphones

0

American chipmaker Qualcomm has today announced its Snapdragon 730 mobile platform which is aimed at powering mid-to-high-end smartphones later this year. The new system-on-chip is the successor to Qualcomm’s 710 SoC that was used in devices like Samsung Galaxy A8s and Xiaomi Mi 8 SE. We recently also saw the launch of Snapdragon 712 SoC, however, the newly-launched Snapdragon 730 mobile platform is a far better improvement.

Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 730 mobile platform has 8 Kyro 470 cores that are clocked at 2.2GHz and the chipset is built on an 8nm process. The mobile platform has an Adreno 618 GPU, a Hexagon 688 processor coupled with a tensor accelerator, a Spectra 350 ‘computer vision’ image signal processor and an X15 LTE modem.

The chipset also has support for Wi-Fi 6. It is worth mentioning that these processors will get AI-powered processing and imagery to devices that don’t belong to the flagship ranges of smartphone companies.

According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 730 chipset also has support for 4K HDR video capture with Portrait Mode and photo and video capture in HEIF format for reduced file sizes. The 8nm process on the chipset is claimed to provide extreme power efficiency in a smaller size. The company says that the mobile platform is engineered for this new architecture, to better extend battery life while increasing compute capabilities.

Other than this, there is also another version of the processor called 730G, which is primarily focussed on gaming. This chipset has its GPU clocked higher and promises to give a 15% faster performance on the handset. The mobile platform will support smartphones with 1440p displays, while the regular 730 will have support for devices with 1080p screens. Furthermore, the gaming-focussed processor will be able to offer 960fps slow-motion video.

The American chipmaker also says that Snapdragon 730G SoC will enable a ‘Jank Redcuer’ feature which is capable of “reducing janks by up to 90 percent” in 30fps games.

That’s not all. Qualcomm has also announced its Snapdragon 655 SoC, which is the successor of the company’s 660 processor that was launched in 2017. Much like Snapdragon 675, the newly launched Snapdragon 665 SoC has 8 cores built on an 11nm process. The mobile platform uses Kryo 260 cores and an Adreno 610 GPU. The new processor has support for triple rear cameras and 48MP sensors. So, we can expect to see these features in more affordable smartphones soon.

The company has said that devices with Snapdragon 665, 730 and 730G will hit the stores in mid-2019.

PUBG Mobile zombies mode 11

The new update adds two new weapons to PUBG Mobile. While one is a rocket launcher called RPG-7, the second one if the explosive crossbow, in which the bolt explodes immediately after hitting the target. These can be used to completely blow up walls and vehicles. However, according to reports, these weapons will only be available in the Zombie event mode.

PUBG Mobile zombies mode

The new update will be getting an all-new zombie mode under the Event Mode section of the game. The description of the mode says, “Collect supplies during the day and fend off zombies at night. Survive until the rescue arrives to win!” In other words, this could be a mode where players would need to defend themselves and survive against zombies for a specified period of time.

You will be able to watch your friends play PUBG Mobile

Zombie Mode will finally arrive on PUBG Mobile on February 19: All you need to know

With the next update, you will be able to watch play PUBG Mobile using a feature called ‘Friendly Spectate’. The feature would also enable you to keep a track of their stats and information as you look at their gameplay and see how many other spectators are watching.

PUBG Mobile zombies mode 4

In the upcoming PUBG Mobile update, players will be able to choose from nine colours to customize the no-scope crosshair. In addition to this, they would also be able to customise the red, holographic, 3X and 2X scope crosshair to Red or Green.

Companions

PUBG Mobile 5

This adds an eagle which the player can choose to include with their character when they are in the lobby or during the gameplay. The eagle sits on the character’s shoulder and comes with some emotes of its own. The companion can earn XP for you. While not all the ways for this are known, one way to buy more XP is in the shape of food. One piece of food will give 100 XP. Your companion will only be visible to your teammates.

New grenade added

PUBG Mobile 8

The update PUBG Mobile game comes with a new grenade called Liquid Nitrogen mine. By using this, you will be able to slow everybody down as far as they are in the range of the mine. We think it can prove to be a very useful weapon during the gameplay.

New event mode: Survive Until the Rescue arrives

PUBG Mobile zombies mode 6

In this mode, you will be left at a random place on the map. You need to fight everyone and survive the game with the usual set of rules. However, there is only one exception to this. You need to survive till extraction, much like the name of the game suggests.

Facebook and Google may have to face a new regulator in the UK

The United Kingdom has laid out a plan for regulating the technology industry more closely in a detailed proposal that it has released today. This is the latest crackdown on Big Tech in Europe.

According to the proposal that has been shared, a more decisive action is required considering that there are a number of growing problems online including the spread of terrorist content on various popular platforms. We should mention that the white paper has been produced by the UK’s secretary of state for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and the secretary of state for the Home Department.

The authors have written in the proposal, “There is currently a range of regulatory and voluntary initiatives aimed at addressing these problems, but these have not gone far or fast enough, or been consistent enough between different companies, to keep UK users safe online.”

To fight the problems that have been mentioned earlier, the UK government has been suggested to impose new rules on companies like Facebook and Google by the proposal. The rules should be made in a way that they make these companies monitor the content on their platforms more closely and give regulators more information. The new rules will also require technology giants to take reasonable action on user complaints immediately.

If they fail to take timely action, fines would be imposed on them by a new regulator. However, as of now the scope of the rules still has to be decided by officials in the UK.

As we mentioned earlier, this move by the United Kingdom is the latest one in Europe’s plan to regulate technology giants more closely. Europe has also passed a regulation called GDPR, which is considered to be one among the strictest moves to regulate personal data on the internet.

Post the Cambridge Analytica scandal, the United Kingdom has been scrutinizing a number of technology giants including Facebook. Furthermore, after the video of a mass shooting at two mosques in New Zealand went viral on Facebook and other social media platforms, a renewed urgency has been imposed on the issue of moderating content on the internet.

The proposal that has been shared will soon be debated upon by the Parliament in the United Kingdom. Member of Parliament Damian Collins, who is also the chair of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee has appreciated the white paper saying, “Member of Parliament Damian Collins, chair of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee.”

Apple’s ‘2019 16-inch MacBook Pro’ may get a successor in 2021

Cupertino-based technology giant Apple’s much-talked-about ‘all-new’ 16-inch MacBook Pro is rumoured to launch this year. And now, a report has surfaced online that claims that the laptop will be followed by another one by Apple in 2021.

Earlier, a news report about the delay in the launch of the 16-inch MacBook Pro appeared as a research note from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo on MacRumours. However, it was later reported that this model will be launched in addition to the one that will be unveiled in 2019.

We should mention that it was Kuo who earlier predicted the rumour that Apple was working on a refreshed MacBook Pro lineup that consists of a larger model with a display size between 16 and 16.5 inches. In addition to this, it will also be available in a 13-inch model that would have higher-end specifications than Apple’s current variant that comes with up to 32GB of RAM.

According to Kuo’s original note, the laptops were supposed to release in the second half of 2019, however, a recent report claimed otherwise. However, now it has been clarified that both speak about two different models of MacBook Pro.

Apple was expected to launch a new MacBook Pro model this year. Although Apple’s current MacBook Pro design is just three-years-old, it has not been received well by a lot of fans and has been subjected to its fair share of criticism. This is particularly true if you consider the design flaws in the keyboard as well as the problems that the users are encountering with cables of the MacBook dying, that is also known as Flexgate.

It is worth adding that Apple is struggling with the keyboard flaws and has even tried to fix them last year. A big possibility is that Apple may have fast-tracked a new MacBook Pro hardware ahead of its normal cycle just to put an end to these issues.

If you are an Apple fan, this must be a piece of good news for you as you know that you will be getting a refreshed MacBook Pro soon. Besides this, Kuo has also predicted that a 31.6-inch 6K display with a ‘Mini LED-like backlight design’ will still be launched in 2019. So at least there’s something to look forward to.

Update: The story has been corrected. Previously, the report said that Apple’s rumoured 2019 MacBook Pro was delayed until 2021. The variant that will be launched in 2021 will be in addition to the one launched in 2019 and it will be a Mini-LED model.
