Samsung Galaxy Fold has reportedly passed all tests, re-launch expected soon

0

Samsung’s first foldable smartphone has had a fair share of controversies even before it has gone on its first sale. Prior to making the device available to the public, Samsung Galaxy Fold was sent to some reviewers and YouTubers in the US who found some issues with the screen of the device. Now, a report has surfaced online that suggests that Samsung’s first foldable smartphone has finally passed all the tests and is set to be relaunched for the public soon.

We should mention that Samsung Galaxy Fold was supposed to be launched in April this year. However, after the issues were reported by reviewers and YouTubers, the company postponed the launch of its smartphone and since then, it is working to fix the issues in the Galaxy Fold handset. According to some reports, even a film on the display that was not supposed to be removed could easily be peeled off by using hands.

Until now, the company has not revealed when it will launch the smartphone but it is also expected that the company might unveil the Galaxy Fold for the masses during its Galaxy Unpacked event that will be held in New York on August 7.

Samsung Galaxy Fold launch

According to a report by Android Community, the Samsung Galaxy Fold has passed all the tests and is ready to be shipped to the public.  The report says that the Samsung Display executive has revealed that the Galaxy Fold is ready. Speaking to the website, Kim Seong-Cheol, Vice President of Samsung Display said, “Most of the display problems have been ironed out, and the Galaxy Fold is ready to hit the market.”

The report also adds that Samsung has almost finished the redesign of Galaxy Fold and it has indicated that the smartphone has cleared all the various tests with “flying colours” before its relaunch. A few changes have reportedly been made in the Samsung Galaxy Fold while it was re-engineered.

Earlier this month, Samsung’s co-CEO DJ Koh also admitted that the South Korean technology giant made a mistake by unveiling the Galaxy Fold “before it was ready”. He also stated that he was the person who was responsible to push the Samsung Galaxy Fold to the market so early. He also said that the device was not ready till now, the company has delayed the shipment of the device to the masses. Koh also admitted that the entire episode “was embarrassing” for the company.

Chandrayaan-2 successfully sent to orbit: ISRO

India’s second lunar mission has been successful as its ‘Baahubali’ GSLV rocket has put the moon spacecraft Chandrayaan-2 into the orbit this afternoon. The Rs 375 crore GSLV-Mk III rocket has put the Rs 603 crore Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft, that weighs 3.8 tonnes, in the earth parking orbit it was intended to be in.

The GSLV-Mk III rocket is 43.4 metre tall and weighs 640-tonnes. It has been nicknamed as ‘Baahubali’.

While Chandrayaan-2 has been slung into the intended orbit, it will now have a journey of over a month and a half as it will traverse the 384,400 km between the Earth and its sole satellite.

Speaking on the launch, ISRO’s Chairman K Sivan said, “I’m extremely happy to announce that the GSLV-Mk III-M1 successfully injected Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft into Earth orbit. It is the beginning of a historic journey for India towards the moon and to land at a place near the South Pole to carry out scientific experiments. I salute to all those involved in the launch of Chandrayaan-2.”

The rocket blasted off from Satish Dhawan Space Centre that is located in Sriharikota spaceport at 2:43 pm. After 16 minutes, the rocket was put into orbit Chandrayaan-2 that has three different segments: The Orbiter, the lander ‘Vikram’ and the rover ‘Pragyan’. It has now started its journey to the Moon that will span over 48 days. During this time, ISRO will raise the orbit of the spacecraft by a series manoeuvres so that it is put on Lunar Transfer Trajectory.

We should mention that the rocket was actually meant to fly on July 15 at 2:51 am. However, the mission was called off an hour in advance due to a technical glitch.

An ISRO official has also said that the lander Vikram will land on the Moon on September 7. Speaking to IANS, the official said, “Since this is the first moon landing mission of ISRO, we had built-in buffer time which is being used now.”

ISRO Chandrayaan-2

Speaking more on Chandrayaan-2, it is worth adding that ISRO has named the lander ‘Vikram’ in the memory of Vikram Sarabhai, who is an Indian space pioneer. The rover’s name ‘Pragyan’ means wisdom in Sanskrit. ISRO has also said that on September 7, the lander Vikram will be separated from the Orbiter and will be seen performing a series of complex manoeuvres.

It is expected to soft-land from a height of 100 km from the Moon’s surface close to its South Pole. According to ISRO, no one has gone there before. The lander will be carrying out three scientific experiments there. The rover Pragyam will be carrying out two experiments on the Moon’s surface for a period of one lunar day. The Orbiter will carry out eight scientific experiments and will stay on its mission for a year.

Redmi smartphone with 64MP camera teased with a camera sample

0

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi recently launched its K series smartphones in India with Remi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro. Both the smartphones feature a triple rear camera setup that consists of 48MP Sony IMX586 sensors. After launching the 48MP camera smartphone, the company is now reported to be planning to launch a new device that will feature a 64MP camera.

Today, Xiaomi has teased an image on its official Weibo account that hints at the arrival of the world’s first 64MPcamera smartphone. This will leave behind the present 48MP camera devices across the world. The leaked image shows the camera sample that reads Redmi’s first 64UU megapixel photo. While teasing the development of the 64MP camera, the picture also says that the mobile phone winds into the 64 million era.

The new upcoming smartphone by Xiaomi is speculated to feature a 64MP ISOCELL Bright GW1 camera sensor. A few months back in May this year, Samsung also revealed that its upcoming device will sport a 64MP sensor. The 64MP ISOCELL Bright GW1 camera sensor comes with 0.8 microns of pixel size that is claimed to capture 16MP resolution images under low-light conditions. These images will be clicked using Samsung’s Tetracell technology which is capable to merge four pixels into one.

However, until now, the company has not confirmed whether Samsung’s ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor will be used to support the device or not. Samsung announced the ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor earlier this year. As per a report that surfaced on the web, Xiaomi will be using Samsung‘s ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor in its upcoming smartphone. The pre-installed MIUI camera app also hinted that the subsistence of the 64MP camera sensor in the Xiaomi’s devices. Samsung is also speculated to introduce the 64MP camera sensor in its upcoming Galaxy A-series smartphones. Oppo is also in the queue to reveal its 64MP camera handset that will be powered by Samsung’s ISOCELL GW1 sensor. Oppo is planning to launch the handset at the end of 2019. Realme India CEO, Madhav Seth also flaunted a 64MP camera sample, so a device with the sensor is expected from the company too.

Amazon Prime Day Sale: Camera gear worth Rs 9 lakh sold for Rs 6,500 by mistake

1

In order to boost their sales, Amazon India and Flipkart keep on announcing various kind of sales on their respective websites. The latest one to conclude on Amazon is the Prime Day Sale, which got a number of attractive offers, discounts and deals for the Amazon Prime customers. The Amazon Prime Day Sale went live on July 15 and concluded on July 16.

Just days after the sale has ended, a report has surfaced online that claims that the best deal that was offered by Amazon during the two-days sale was probably a glitch. Some photography lovers were able to buy high-end camera gear worth approximately Rs 9 lakh ($ 13,000) at Rs 6,500 ($95). Yes, you read that correctly.

Once the buyers found this deal, the e-commerce website was flooded with orders of the camera products. It is worth adding here that the camera gears on which the glitch showed up were from high-end brands like Sony, Fujifilm and Canon.

In fact, it was Canon EF 800 lens, that is priced at Rs 9 lakh (USD 13,000) and was being sold at Rs 6,500 (USD 95). While this deal was live for a very brief period of time, it was enough for a large number of people to place the order for the item.

Some buyers even took to social media platform Reddit to talk about their shopping experience and lucky buy. A Reddit user posted, “I somehow got a $3,000 camera for $94 on Prime Day last night. It just seems a little too good to be true. Do you guys think it will ship or get cancelled because it was a glitch?”

But then, it seems like this wasn’t the only ‘glitch’ that was there on the platform. Another user said, “I too got some deals from the prime day ‘glitch’. $16,000+ in gear for about $800.”

One user wrote, “Right place right time,” talking about the deals on Amazon. Another comment read, “Amazon Accidentally Sold $13,000+ Camera Gear for $100 on Prime Day.”

Amazon Prime Days Sale

A user also felt the need of thanking Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos by saying, “Bought the most expensive camera bundle during the prime day glitch for 94.48. Thank you, Bezos!”

As of now, there is no word from the e-commerce giant on whether this was a real deal during its Amazon Prime Day sale, or whether it was just a glitch on the company’s part.

Sony patents its first smartphone with folding display and pressure sensors: Report

0

A number of major technology companies are trying to manufacture their foldable smartphones. While Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Fold at the launch of Galaxy S10 smartphones, Huawei has once showcased its 5G foldable handset – Mate X. Now, a report has surfaced online that claims that Sony has also patented its foldable design smartphone.

According to a new report by LetsGoDigital, Sony had patented its new foldable smartphone that shows a flexible display of the rear and front that has a pressure sensor, acceleration sensor, and temperature sensor. As per the report, the company will be adding a resistance and photo sensor on the display of the smartphone that will help the device determine the holding habits and customize the UI accordingly.

Sony’s foldable smartphone will feature a folding design that will be similar to that of Huawei Mate X. This means that the screen of the smartphone will fold outwards. When the device is folded outwards it will provide the smartphone with a secondary display screen. However, the company has not revealed when the foldable device will be launched or whether it will be made available for purchase at all.

As per a previous video that was shared by Tech Configurations, it has been revealed that the company is working on the foldable design of its upcoming smartphone. Besides the design, a few specifications of the smartphone have also come to light.  According to the leaks, the device is expected to come with a 6.2-inch 4K resolution OLED display (when folded out), a dual rear camera set-up (19MP + 12MP), an in-display fingerprint sensor, 8GB of RAM, 128/256/512GB of internal storage and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 SoC.

Apart from this, it’s also speculated that the foldable phone will be called Xperia Note Flex and it will come with a polymer joint.

We should mention that earlier this year, South Korean technology giant Samsung launched its first foldable smartphone – Galaxy Fold. The device was all set to be made available in markets for purchase, but due to some screen durability issue, there has been a delay. Before launching the smartphone, the company sent few units for a review to a number of Youtubers in the US. But the smartphone company postponed the sale of the device when it got the feedback that the display of the handset broke in some cases. A film on top of the display, that wasn’t supposed to be removed, could also easily be removed. But now Samsung has re-engineered the hinge and it says that going forward, the film will be impossible to peel off by hands.

Google Pixel 4’s leaked images show large forehead bezel on the display

Google Pixel 4 has become the talk of the town even months before its launch. The technology giant took a bold step and released its first image last month, even though the device will be unveiled officially in October. However, this has only made fans speculate more about the upcoming Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL smartphones. Now, a new set of images of the Google Pixel 4 have surfaced online and they show that the device will come with a large bezel on top of its screen.

The image has been leaked on Twitter by Ice universe (via 9to5Google) and they give a good look at the Pixel 4’s front panel. The pictures are in line with other reports of the device that have been pouring in. It can be seen that the upcoming flagship smartphone will come with a larger forehead and chin bezels than its rivals like Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus and OnePlus 7 Pro. We should mention that these bezels will cover up a variety of sensors and front-facing snappers that are otherwise hidden in a notch or a pop-up camera module.

A report has also suggested that the handset will come with some motion-sensing technology that will be termed as Project Soli. This technology will make use of radar to detect fine motion above it. With the size of the bezels that can be seen in the images, it looks like Google required plenty of space to place the sensors.

Besides these images, @OnLeaks and iGeeksBlog have released a number of renders of the upcoming Google Pixel 4 smartphone and it is worth mentioning that they also show thicker top and bottom bezels.

When Google shared the first image of its upcoming smartphone last month, a number of things about it came to light. The upcoming Pixel 4’s official image revealed that the smartphone will come with a square camera bump on its back panel’s top left corner. Two camera sensors and an LED flash can be seen inside the camera module. Some reports have surfaced online that suggest that the second camera sensor on Google Pixel 4 will be a telephoto lens.

Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL

We should also point out that the smartphone does not sport a fingerprint sensor on its back panel. So, it can be concluded that the upcoming Pixel flagship will come with an in-display fingerprint sensor. The device can also be seen to sport a silver-coloured Power button on its side edge.

Another very notable thing about the design of the Google Pixel 4 is that it’s back panel is not like the rear panel of other Pixel devices. Other Pixel handsets come with a glossy glass portion on the top of their back panel and a matte portion lies right below it. However, Pixel 4 looks like it only has one among the two portions, although as of now, it can’t be said whether it will be matte or glass.

Chandrayaan 2 launch scheduled for today: How to watch the live stream

0

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is all set to launch Chandrayaan 2, its second moon landing mission today. The mission was earlier scheduled for July 15, but it got called off just an hour before the lift-off because of lack of pressure in helium tanks of Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-Mark III (GSLV-Mk III). Today, the lift-off is set to begin at 2.43 pm IST and it will be live-streamed for all. With Chandrayaan 2, ISRO aims to go to the Moon’s south polar region, which is a place no other country has been to before.

Chandrayaan 2 launch details

The launch time of ISRO‘s Chandrayaan 2 is 2.43 pm IST today. The GSLV Mk-III launch vehicle will be used for the mission and it will be taking place from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) located in Sriharikota. Lunar surface ad relay communication between Earth and Chandrayaan 2’s Lander — Vikram, will be observed via Orbiter.

Chandrayaan 2 is an unmanned mission and it will consist of a Pragyan Rover, which has six wheels and is backed by AI. According to ISRO, it can travel up to 500m and makes use of solar energy to function. ISRO has also said that it can only communicate with the Lander.

Chandrayaan-2 launch live stream details

As we mentioned earlier, the launch of Chandrayaan 2 will be held at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre. SDSC had opened registrations to witness the launch from their viewer’s gallery. While the registrations are now closed, you can still bank on the live streams to watch the launch. ISRO has said that the live stream of the event will be available on its Twitter and Facebook pages.

In addition to this, the launch will also be live-streamed on Doordarshan’s YouTube channel. We have also embedded the live stream video of Chandrayaan 2 launch on this page, so you can even come back here to watch it. In case you don’t have access to the internet at the time of launch, you can also watch the launch of Chandrayaan 2 on Doordarshan’s TV channel.

Key objectives

ISRO has said that Chandrayaan 2 will be attempting to soft-land the lander — Vikram and Pragyan rover — in a high plain between Manzinus C and Simpelius N craters. The landing is planned to at a latitude of about 70 degrees south. ISRO has said, “Evidence for water molecules discovered by Chandrayaan-1, requires further studies on the extent of water molecule distribution on the surface, below the surface and in the tenuous lunar exosphere to address the origin of water on Moon. The lunar South Pole is especially interesting because of the lunar surface area here that remains in shadow are much larger than that at the North Pole. There is a possibility of the presence of water in permanently shadowed areas around it. In addition, South Pole region has craters that are cold traps and contain a fossil record of the early Solar System.”

As we pointed it out earlier, Chandrayaan 2 is the first-ever space mission to conduct a soft landing on the south polar region of the Moon. Besides this, it is also the first attempt by India to attempt a soft landing on the Moon’s surface with home-grown technology. It is also the country’s first mission to explore the lunar terrain with technology that has been made in India itself. On doing this successfully, India will become the fourth country to soft-land on the lunar surface.

How to save your Android smartphone’s battery life

Smartphones are indispensable from our lives. Is there anyone in today’s world who can do without them? We depend on our smartphones for endless things including making calls, calling a cab, ordering food online, making payments, staying in touch with friends and so much more. However, if there is one thing everyone has a love-hate relationship with, it’s our smartphone‘s battery. We completely depend on it. In fact, to make sure that it doesn’t get too low, most of us carry power banks with us. Actually, anything that makes our smartphone’s battery last the entire day is acceptable. But then we should tell you that you don’t really have to go to great lengths to ensure this. You can follow these simple steps to manage the battery life effectively on your Android smartphone:

Make use of the Doze mode

The Doze Mode was introduced in Android 6.0 and it makes sure that the apps on your device are not using the battery when your smartphone is not in use. You don’t really have to do anything to make this work, as it is enabled automatically. However, you can include and exclude apps on which the Doze mode is applicable. Follow these steps to do so:

  • Go to your smartphone’s Settings.
  • Scroll down and tap on ‘Apps and Notifications.’
  • Tap on ‘Advanced’ and then go to ‘Special app access’. Here, click on ‘Battery optimization.’
  • You will see a list of apps and how many of them are optimized for the Doze Mode.
  • You can choose any app here that you want to exempt from the Doze Mode. Just tap on the name and then choose ‘Don’t optimize’.

Turn on Adaptive Battery and Adaptive Brightness

Adaptive Battery and Adaptive Brightness make use of Artificial Intelligence to adjust your apps and screen according to your habits. So, they only make use of power when required. While both are mostly turned on by default, you can always double-check.

How to turn on Adaptive Battery:

  • Go to Settings and tap on ‘Battery’.
  • Scroll down to ‘Adaptive Battery’ and enable it if it’s not turned on already.
  • How to turn on Adaptive Display:
  • Go to Settings and choose ‘Display’.
  • Tap on ‘Adaptive Display’ and enable it if it is not already enabled.

Install an app for it

Greenify is a great app to save battery life of your smartphone. It enables you to force apps to hibernate, and hence, helps in saving smartphone battery. There are other similar apps available on Google Play Store too.

battery

Uninstall unwanted apps

Go to your app drawer and list down what apps you have not been using for a while. It’s better to uninstall them as even when we are not using any apps, they use a lot of data and battery in the background. You can also find out which apps in your handset are using the most power. Follow these steps for it:

  • Head to Settings > Battery > More > Battery usage.
  • Choose the option of ‘More’ and tap on ‘Show full device usage’. This will show you where exactly your smartphone’s battery is used up the most.
  • If you find any apps eating the battery too much, you may choose to uninstall them.

Turn on Battery Saver on your smartphone

Follow these steps for turning on the battery saver on your Android smartphone:

  • Head to Settings > Battery > Battery Saver.
  • Enable ‘Turn on automatically’.
  • Specify the percentage at which you want it to activate.

How to spot fake Android apps on Google Play Store

If there is something that makes smartphones smart, it has to be the apps that we have installed on it. There are apps available for literally everything under the sun today. They can help you learn a new language, convert currencies, order food online, call a cab, connect with friends and so much more. Basically, you name the purpose and there is an app available for it. However, one should always watch out for fake Android apps that may be available on the Google Play Store.

While Google has started its Play Protect to filter out such apps, there are still a few of them that manage to be there. It is very necessary to know how to spot a fake Android app as downloading them may install malicious software in our smartphones. Other than this, there are also apps that have adware, and some may even be used by hackers to spy on your activity. So how can you know whether an app on Google Play Store is real or fake? We have listed down some ways here in which you can find out:

Check the name, the developer and the logo

Two apps cannot have the same name. Which developer would want to name his app exactly as some other app and why? So, in case an Android app is fake, there would be some kind of a deviation in its name. However, it will be very subtle. It’s usually something like an extra space or a letter, so that it is subtle enough to be ignored easily. Make sure you check the apps with the same names carefully and never mindlessly install the first app that pops up in search results.

Another thing that you should look out for is the logo of the app. While most fake Android apps have the same logo as the real one, there is usually some sort of subtle variation there too. The most important thing to see is the name of the developer. This is the biggest giveaway that tells whether an app is original or not.

Look out for the download count

Original apps have more number of downloads than their fake versions. But then, there are some fake Android apps on Google Play Store that have garnered a lot of downloads too. So, don’t fall for any app that has a high number of downloads. Compare similar-looking apps and download the ones with more number of downloads.

fake Android apps on Google Play Store

Pay attention to the comments

No one really has the time to read the comments under the Review Section. However, they may have some insightful information as someone who had a bad experience with the app may have talked about it there. So, it’s always advisable to rear comments below an app. But remember, companies also pay for positive comments to manage their reputation online, so, do look for the comments that don’t carry too much rating.

Google Play Protect verification

Google Play Protect is the company’s own antivirus for Android that has now integrated with Play Store. This has been done to ensure that all apps have undergone a verification process. If you see the sign beside an app that indicates that it has been verified by Play Protect, you can download it without having to worry about it being malicious.

WhatsApp for iOS to soon get voice message previews in notifications

WhatsApp regularly keeps getting updated by its parent company so that it remains useful and beneficial for its users. With its new update, WhatsApp is getting a new feature that would permit its users to preview voice messages in notifications. However, as of now, this feature is known to exist only in iOS.

As of now, the instant messaging platform only allows previews of photos and videos in the notification bar. However, according to a new report by WABetaInfo, the company has now decided to include voice messages in the preview too. Soon the platform will bring a feature to preview the received voice notes in the notifications of the smartphone itself. The iOS users will soon receive a push notification with an incoming voice message.

WABetaInfo, on its Twitter account, informed that the new upgraded feature for WhatsApp for iOS allows its users to listen to a voice message with a dedicated play button placed in the notification itself. According to the website, the new feature is under development and the Facebook-owned WhatsApp will soon roll out the new update for iOS.

The tweet reads, “I leave this here. Yes, it’s a push notification with an incoming voice message, on iOS. It will be available in future (maybe in a major update with other features?)”

However, WABetaInfo has not confirmed when WhatsApp is planning to launch the new feature. As of now, there is no clarity on whether the preview voice note feature will be made available for the Android users.

To recall, there was another report by WABetaInfo that suggested that WhatsApp will soon bring a new feature called ‘Quick Edit Media Shortcut’. This new feature will allow the users to edit media files sent or receive within the app.

According to the report, this new feature is also under development for both Android and iOS. WhatsApp has released the ‘Quick Edit Media Shortcut’ for beta users and it will soon bring the new feature to other users also. With the new edit feature, the users will be able to edit their media files like their pictures sent or receive on the app itself. A dedicated button for the feature called Edit that has been placed beside the Share and Favourite buttons on the app and will be accessible when the user taps the media file.

This petition demands Redmi K20 price in India to be slashed

Chinese technology company Xiaomi launched its much-awaited Redmi K20 Pro and Redmi K20 smartphones in India just a few days back. The company has been boasting about the powerful specifications of the two smartphones, but then, it seems like there are some fans who don’t think that they are worth the price. A petition has emerged on Change.org that asks Xiaomi’s sub-brand to lower the Redmi K20 price in India.

While the device has been launched at a starting price of Rs 22,000, the petition demands a price cut of Rs 2,000. It further says that Redmi should slash the price of its Redmi K20 smartphone because the device does not have enough memory.

The petition reads, “Redmi K20 is literally very overpriced for specs! For 2,2000 we get 6(RAM)+64 (internal storage) which is a lot less storage! 64GB isn’t enough in this new generation of tech, a minimum of 128gb should be starting Variant…every indian usually expects a mid range phone from xiaomi if they price at 22k we atleast need a long lasting phone with bigger storage even if they planned for 64(GB) @22 (Rs 22,000) they should have given memory card slot atleast bcz Indian’s always demand more, with such a good cam storage will be more importance!”

This is how the petition on Change.org begins. It goes on to talk about how saving files on the cloud is not always an option and how Redmi K20’s price in China is around Rs 19,000.

At the time of writing, 2,160 people had signed the petition, which means that there are others who think that Xiaomi‘s price for Redmi K20 is not justified. The petition is still growing gradually. So let’s see how many people come to support it ultimately.

0

If you have been waiting for Google Stadia, we have some news for you. Google Stadia controllers will not work with Bluetooth headsets at the time of its launch. Users would instead have to plug in a set of wired headphones into the 3.5mm jack of Stadia’s controller. The California-based technology giant has announced that Google Stadia will first be coming to 14 countries including the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands. The report says, “Hotstar is the most penetrated OTT Entertainment App with 49% of smartphone users having it installed on their devices.  One of the main factors for Hotstar’s growth has been its sports, especially cricket content, be it IPL or now the World Cup Championship.  This is letting people watch their favourite sports entertainment on the go or even catch-up it at their convenience.  The app has been able to successfully attain leadership and continues to retain the top spot.”

On the other hand, the report also revealed that Amazon Prime is doing slightly better than Netflix. The access to Amazon Prime Video is 15% as compared to Netflix which is at 13%. This is because Amazon has partnered with few smartphone manufacturers where its apps like Amazon Shopping and Amazon Prime Video comes pre-installed on the phones. The study also added, “However, the delta does not commensurate the tie-ups Amazon has compared to Netflix which doesn’t have any such relationship with a Smartphone OEM.”

It has also been revealed that 74% of the female smartphone users in India use OTT entertainment apps whereas 79% of the male have OTTentertainment apps installed on their devices.

The report said, “Platforms like Amazon Prime Video and Netflix which have a mix of global as well as local content, is more popular among women.  The new age women of India are going beyond the regular daily soap operas on the regular TV channels and looking for more engaging and entertaining content for which they watch such OTT platforms.  These also include working women and students who are living on their own, typically out of their home city/town.  Netflix penetration among women is 9% compared to 8% in men while its 15% and 13% for Amazon Prime Video respectively.  The content on such platforms resonates with the struggling and aspirational stories of the rising women power in India.”
