Xiaomi 11i review: A suitable smartphone for day-to-day use

Since the start of the new year, there have been a slew of smartphone launches, particularly in the mid-range segment. We have been extremely busy testing new devices, one of which is the Xiaomi 11i. We have been testing it for nearly a month. There is another variant known as the Xiaomi 11i Hypercharge, which offers 120W charging while the one we have offers 67W charging, and this is the only difference between the two phones. So, check out our detailed review of the Xiaomi 11i to learn our honest thoughts on the latest handset.

Xiaomi 11i review: Design and Display

Starting with the design and build quality, we must say that it is quite different from other devices we have seen. It has a blocky appearance with flat and sharp edges, which we found quite uncomfortable at first, but got used to overtime. The rear has a matte glass finish that gives it a premium feel. We have been testing the Camo Green colour, which is both refreshing and beautiful.  Xiaomi 11i review: Design and Display When the light strikes the surface at the correct angle, the colour appears in different hues. The back panel does not collect a lot of fingerprints or smudges. On the other side, we would have preferred it if it had a metal frame. The camera module is rather large and draws a lot of attention, which is a good thing for most influencers these days. We also have no complaints about the device’s weight, which is evenly distributed and includes a large battery. Furthermore, unlike the Vivo V23 Pro, the Xiaomi 11i has an IP53 rating and is one of the few brands that offer splash resistance on a mid-range phone. Xiaomi 11i review: Design and Display You also get an IR blaster, a 3.5mm jack, and speakers on the top frame, which is uncommon in the segment. Our finger/thumb, on the other hand, naturally rested on the side-mounted fingerprint scanner, which also serves as a power button. The fingerprint sensor is quick and precise. The volume controls are also easily accessible. The left side, on the other hand, is devoid of any buttons. As the device supports dual set-up, there is another stereo speaker grill below, as well as a USB Type-C port and SIM tray. On the front, you get a 6.67-inch full-HD+ Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,080×2,400 pixels. The display has a 20:9 aspect ratio, a refresh rate of 120Hz, touch sampling rate of 360Hz, pixel density of 395ppi, peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits, HDR10 compliance, and Widevine L1 support. The screen has a small camera hole-punch cutout near the top and thin bezels on all sides. Xiaomi has chosen Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the Xiaomi 11i. Xiaomi 11i review: Design and Display The colours of the display are eye-catching and appealing. The AMOLED display has a high level of contrast, which is noticeable when watching content in low-light conditions. The speakers are strong, and the stereo sound improves the overall video viewing experience. All of these features, along with slim bezels and a small punch hole cut out, improve the overall viewing experience. It also gets a lot bright, so you won’t have any problems using it outside under direct sunlight.

Xiaomi 11i review: Performance and Cameras

In terms of performance, the Xiaomi 11i is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 920 SoC, which is paired with up to 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. A microSD card can be used to expand the internal storage up to 1TB. We had a good time with the Xiaomi 11i. It is decently fast, apps open quickly, and multitasking is not an issue if you are upgrading from a low-cost or mid-range smartphone. The thermal handling is also excellent; whether gaming, multitasking, or running heavy applications, this smartphone does not crack at all.    Furthermore, we were pleased with its gaming performance. The majority of games can be played on this smartphone at high settings with complete stability. Call of Duty is a high-end game that it easily handles. It provides a consistent 60 frames per second at high graphics settings and a very high frame rate. We did not experience any lag or heating while playing BGMI for more than 30 minutes. So, in our opinion, the Dimensity 920 SoC is an excellent processor. Furthermore, the stereo speakers here are quite good; it is sufficiently loud but does not feel as good as the one found on premium devices. However, we enjoyed listening to music and watching videos on this device.  review of Xiaomi 11i In terms of software, the Xiaomi 11i is powered by MIUI 12.5 on top of Android 11. No word of Android 12 at the moment. The device comes with a slew of preinstalled apps. However, if you prefer a clean interface, you can uninstall them. The UI includes a number of customisations, such as dual apps, which allow you to easily use two similar apps, such as WhatsApp.  Game Turbo, on the other hand, allows you to manage all of your games in one place, and it also allows you to customise the always-on display. However, some apps’ implementation of the dark mode is subpar. Scrolling and navigation in compatible games is extremely fluid due to the fast refresh rate. The 120Hz option, on the other hand, is disabled by default. The Xiaomi 11i comes with a triple rear camera setup that includes a 108-megapixel primary Samsung HM2 sensor with an f/1.89 aperture, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 2-megapixel macro sensor. On the front, it also has a 16-megapixel selfie camera sensor with an f/2.45 aperture. Beginning with the main camera, we found the daylight images to be fairly average for the price. It can take some good pictures with enhanced colours and perfect details on occasions. At times, it over sharpens the images, and the HDR does not work super well. The camera sensor also had difficulty focusing on close subjects. In fact, the shutter speed and image processing are both slow, making it impossible to capture stable or detailed images of moving objects. In our case, we had difficulty capturing a high-quality image of our pet. Portrait images, on the other hand, appeared overly sharpened. The ultrawide images, on the other hand, are nice but not spectacular.

108MP sensor
During low-light conditions, the primary sensor does a good job of reducing image noise. You can use night mode to get even better shots.
review of Xiaomi 11i
Portrait shot
When it comes to selfies, the front-facing camera outperforms the others. You get good selfies without oversharpening the human subject. In terms of videography, the camera is limited to 4K 30fps with no stabilisation. Even the video recording at 1080p 60fps appears shaky. So, in order to capture stable video, you must use 1080p @ 30fps. While selfie videos taken in 1080p@30fps mode are stable, switching to 60fps causes the videos to look unstable. Overall, the cameras left us with a mixed bag of feelings.

Verdict

It costs Rs 27,000 for the base variant, which has 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, and Rs 29,000 for the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model. Because the company has included the fast charger, the pricing is on the higher side when compared to its predecessor, the Mi 10i. There will be no problems with the phone in normal use, nor will there be any heating issues. We appreciate that Xiaomi offers fast charging, but that isn’t the only reason we recommend the Xiaomi 11i. We loved the display and long battery life too. If cameras aren’t important to you, this phone is a very good choice, but there are many other options on the market with a faster chipset and a more capable camera setup from Xiaomi, in case you are a shutterbug. Xiaomi 11i Pros
  • Good for Gaming
  • Fast Charging
  • Robust design
Xiaomi 11i Cons
  • Bloatware
  • Average cameras

Our verdict

The specifications of the two newly released versions are pretty much identical. The camera specifications are nearly comparable, however, Vivo outperforms Samsung thanks to the 16MP selfie camera. Both phones feature a similar display that supports a refresh rate of 120Hz. The battery capacities are similar as well, although Vivo offers 33W Pro fast charging. In terms of price, the Vivo T1 5G is less expensive than the Samsung Galaxy F23 5G. Given the specifications and cost, the apparent winner is the Vivo T1 5G. What Is An App Drawer In Android Smartphones And 3 Ways To Use It Optimally

Like the way you keep all your on the go stuff in the drawer which you have the easiest access to at your home, Android smartphones have app drawers for the same purpose. An app drawer is a space in your smartphone that hosts all the downloaded and installed applications. It is the first place where you look for any downloaded app on your device, and the fastest and the easiest way to launch it. Whenever you install an app from the play store, it gets placed in the app drawer. If you are an iPhone user, your app drawer would be your home screen itself. But in Android, you are provided with an app drawer as a separate section apart from your home screen.  Android Home Screen Your home screen also contains apps like your app drawer, but only those that are most frequently used, or are probably your favourites. The icons for the apps on your home screen are shortcuts for launching them so that you don’t have to open your app drawer to locate them again and again, and can instead directly access them through your home screen itself. To make the most out of your app drawer, below are mentioned the 3 best ways to use it optimally. Read also: Top 10 Apps To Download In Your New Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Sort Apps Alphabetically For Easier Access

Generally, the apps in your Android app drawer are installed and placed in the order in which you download them. However, for simpler and more planned out access to your apps, most Android smartphones provide you with the option to sort your apps alphabetically. You can sort your apps alphabetically in the following manner. Categorize Apps By Creating App Folders

You can categorise your apps within your app drawer by creating folders for each category and placing the apps accordingly in them. For example, you can create a folder named Google for all the Google apps that you have on your smartphone, like Google Chrome, Gmail, Google Lens, Google Meet, Google Maps, etc. Similarly, you can create a separate folder for all the Microsoft apps that you utilise, like MS Office, MS Outlook, etc.  You can create a folder in your app drawer in the following manner.  Step 1: Long press one of the apps in your app drawer which you want to put in the new folder that you want to create. The Settings pop up will appear right on top of the app. Click on the Select option. Creating Folders- 3 Ways To Use An App Drawer Optimally In Android Step 2: Then check on all the apps that you want to put in the same folder, and click on the Create folder option on the top right corner of the interface, as highlighted below.  Creating Folders- 3 Ways To Use An App Drawer Optimally In Android Step 3: Your new folder gets created with the apps that you checked earlier. You can name your folder by tapping on the Folder name area on top and typing the name in it.  Step 3 Creating Folders There is another easier way to create a folder within your app drawer. All you need to do is just drag the icon of one app and drop it onto any other app from the same category, which will generate a folder including the two in it. You can then keep on adding more apps to the same folder by just dragging and dropping. Samsung smartphones also let you set a colour as a theme for your folder.

Directly Search An App Through The Search Bar

Almost all Android smartphones provide a search bar within the app drawer for searching apps. Instead of finding your luck in spotting an app by mere scrolling, you can save time by directly using the search bar to locate the app.  Searching Directly Through The App Drawer Search Bar So those were the best 3 ways that we suggest to use your Android app drawer optimally. We would love to hear of any other means or ways you find, to make the best use of the app drawer provided in Android smartphones. The alleged Mi Band 7 is likely to have a 192×490-pixel display resolution, which is higher than the 152×486-pixel resolution on the Mi Band 6. It is expected to include built-in GPS support, allowing it to be used to track workouts such as jogging and running without the need for a smartphone. Although as with other devices that offer GPS functionality, the GPS capability may come at the expense of battery life. Xiaomi’s Mi Band 7 is tipped to have model numbers M2129B1 and M2130B1, as well as the codename “L66.” In addition to this the smart wearable is also expected to include a power-saving mode (only recording steps and basic sleep data). This may help to enhance the wearable’s battery life. The Mi Band 7 is also said to include a Smart Alarm feature, which could wake up a user 30 minutes before their alarm goes off if it detects light sleep. It should be noted that the Chinese company has yet to make any official announcements about an upcoming fitness tracker, including its specifications and features. The Mi Band 6 has a 1.56-inch full-screen AMOLED touch display with a resolution of 152×486 pixels. It also has a peak brightness of 450 nits and a pixel density of 326ppi.
