0

In order to ensure safety of those spending maximum time to learn or work from home or remain connected with the loved ones, Microsoft Family Safety app’s limited preview is now available on iOS and Android devices.

In a blog post, the tech giant revealed “Microsoft Family Safety helps you to facilitate a dialogue with your kids about the time they are spending on their devices and type of content they are viewing. The app provides transparency on where everyone is spending time online and allows you to create flexible schedules to carve out more time for things like online learning. Additionally, it helps you stay connected even when you’re apart with location sharing.”

Moreover, with Microsoft Family Safety app, family members can manage their data and information and who it is shared with. Microsoft asserted that it works around the clock to help protect the users’ information and does not sell their data.

Now, let’s take check out four interesting features that Microsoft has made available for its users in the preview of its Family Safety app:

Activity reporting in Microsoft Family Safety app

A user can now receive information about his/her family’s activity so they can have a conversation about what their kids are doing online and on their devices. View screen time, top websites visited, and terms kids are searching for online. As a part of Microsoft Family Safety app, this email summary for each week will help facilitate a dialogue on healthy digital choices and begin developing good habits from a young age.

Screen time limits in Microsoft Family Safety app

The app enables users to set screen time limits across Windows and Xbox devices. According to Microsoft, “Now when you say only one hour of a certain game, that really means one hour of that game—whether that’s being played on a Windows PC, Xbox, or Android phone. And if they run out of screen time, they can ask for more. You have the choice to add more time or not based on what is right for your family.”

Content controls in Microsoft Family Safety app

Now create a safe space for your kids to explore online by setting up healthy boundaries with web and search filters to block mature content and set browsing to kid-friendly websites on Microsoft Edge.

Interestingly, parents can get notified when your children want to download a more mature app or game from the Microsoft Stores with age limits. Microsoft Family Safety app provides you with the tools to begin talking about the type of content that is right for your kids.

Location sharing in Microsoft Family Safety app

With stay-at-home orders and restrictions on mobility currently in place, it is important to know where your loved ones are when they are not at home—for example if your teenager got side-tracked while running to the grocery store and ended up at a friend’s house. Isn’t the app seems to be very helpful to keep a track on your loved one?

Microsoft has invited iOS and Android users to join the preview so that it can collect the feedback and continue to enhance the experience before launching Microsoft Family Security app in the coming months. Once launched, the app will be available to download for free in the app stores.

Meanwhile, if you wish to join the preview of Microsoft Family Safety app, you simply need to express interest and Microsoft will be reaching out with instructions to download the preview. “Microsoft Family Safety is best when used together. We are looking for families with children of all ages to join the preview. We ask that users participating in the preview actively provide feedback to help us learn from your experience. You can send feedback in the app by shaking your device or tapping on the menu > Help and feedback,” the tech giant added.

0

In a teaser poster that Xiaomi has revealed on Chinese micro-blogging site Weibo, the smartphone maker has now announced that it would be lifting curtains off its Redmi K30 5G Speed Edition smartphone in China dated May 11th. The most important aspect that this teaser poster on Weibo has mentioned is that Xiaomi Redmi K30 5G Speed Edition will derive its power by a yet-to-be launched new Snapdragon 768G processor. However, we are yet to confirm this update as Qualcomm hasn’t revealed any details about the official announcement of the new processor.

Therefore, the teaser regarding Snapdragon 768G chipset in Redmi K30 5G Speed Edition should be considered as a rumour until Qualcomm announces it officially or it gets launched on the main day. According to DroidHolic, the yet to be launched new Snapdragon 768G processor seems to deliver a little better performance as compared to Snapdragon 765 as it will also be housed with 5G modem. The news report further reveals that the Snapdragon 768G chipset will carry with two cores clocked at 2.8GHz and 2.4GHz, respectively along with six power efficient cores that clock at 1.8GHz.

Looking at what rumour mills have revealed in the past, the Redmi K30 5G Speed Edition smartphone will be carrying two selfie camera that will be housed inside a sleek-oval-shaped punch-hole located above the display. Besides this, 91 Mobiles stated that the listing on JD.com has hinted that the Redmi K30 5G Speed Edition smartphone will be equipped with a 6.67-inch LCD display that will provide its users a screen refresh rate of 120Hz.

As far as camera details are concerned, news is rife that the K30 5G Special Edition will comprise of 64MP main camera, an 8MP wide-angle lens and a 5MP macro lens. On the other hand, it has been leaked earlier that the Snapdragon 768G chipset will come along with 6GB RAM as well as internal storage capacity of 128GB.

Stay tuned for more updates about the upcoming Redmi K30 5G Speed Edition by Xiaomi once it gets launched in China at 2:00 PM as per CST (which translates to 11:30 AM as per IST).

Zoom acquires Keybase to build end-to-end encryption

0

In another milestone in Zoom’s 90-day plan to further strengthen the security of the video communications platform, Zoom has now announced the acquisition of Keybase to help the video conferencing app build end-to-end encryption that can reach current Zoom scalability.

The Keybase’s team has built a secure messaging and file-sharing service leveraging its deep encryption and security expertise ever since it was launched. With this acquisition, Zoom has taken the first attempt to accomplish the creation of a truly private video communications platform that can scale to hundreds of millions of participants, while also having the flexibility to support Zoom’s wide variety of uses.

In a blog post, Zoom stated, “Our goal is to provide the most privacy possible for every use case, while also balancing the needs of our users and our commitment to preventing harmful behaviour on our platform. Keybase’s experienced team will be a critical part of this mission.”

With this, Zoom will soon offer an end-to-end encrypted meeting mode to all paid accounts. Logged-in users will generate public cryptographic identities that are stored in a repository on Zoom’s network and can be used to establish trust relationships between meeting attendees. An ephemeral per-meeting symmetric key, which will be generated by the meeting host, will now be distributed between clients, enveloped with the asymmetric keypairs and rotated when there are significant changes to the list of attendees.

In addition to this, Zoom informed that the cryptographic secrets will be under the control of the host, and the host’s client software will decide what devices are allowed to receive meeting keys, and thereby join the meeting. Zoom is also probing mechanisms that would allow enterprise users to provide additional levels of authentication.

However, the app further notified that these end-to-end encrypted meetings will not support phone bridges, cloud recording, or non-Zoom conference room systems. Zoom Rooms and Zoom Phone participants will be able to attend if explicitly allowed by the host. Encryption keys will be tightly controlled by the host, who will admit attendees. We believe this will provide equivalent or better security than existing consumer end-to-end encrypted messaging platforms, but with the video quality and scale that has made Zoom the choice of over 300 million daily meeting participants, including those at some of the world’s largest enterprises.

Besides this, Zoom is aware of its goal to prevent the use of its products to cause harm. For this, Zoom will continue to work with users to enhance the reporting mechanisms available to meeting hosts to report unwanted and disruptive attendees. Our Take

Both the smartphones come with quad rear camera setup and both include a 108megapixel camera sensor but the S20 Ultra comes with a better camera set up than Xiaomi. Also, the Samsung smartphone features a 40-megapixel selfie camera whereas Mi 10 has a 20-megapixel selfie snapper. So S20 Ultra takes a lead in terms of camera capability. Samsung offers a longer battery life as it is supported by a 5000mAh battery with  45W fast charging support whereas Mi 10 5G is supported by a 4,780mAh battery with 30W fast charging support.

In terms of specifications, it’s tough to decide which amongst both phones is the best. On one hand where Galaxy S20 ultra comes loaded with great features along with better camera quality whereas on the other hand Mi 10 comes with all the necessary features and is also less expensive. We recommend you to go for S20 ultra if budget is not an issue but if you are on a tight budget then Mi 10 5G will be a smart choice at is might cost you half the price of what you will be paying for Galaxy S20 Ultra.

To let you rethink a reply, we’re running a limited experiment on iOS with a prompt that gives you the option to revise your reply before it’s published if it uses language that could be harmful.”

In what seems to be a Facebook-inspired experiment, Twitter focusses on motivating Twitterati to stay away from indulging in any response that involves usage of offensive language as it will only result in further escalation of tension. However, Twitter remains tight-lipped on when it will be officially rolling out this feature on its social media handle.

According to Twitter’s Hateful conduct policy, A user “may not promote violence against or directly attack or threaten other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, caste, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease. We also do not allow accounts whose primary purpose is inciting harm towards others on the basis of these categories.”

Twitter’s Hateful conduct policy further states that its user may not use hateful images or symbols in your profile image or profile header. You also may not use your username, display name, or profile bio to engage in abusive behaviour, such as targeted harassment or expressing hate towards a person, group, or protected category.’

In another blog post on its official website, Twitter mentioned that its mission is to give everyone the power to create and share ideas and information, and to express their opinions and beliefs without barriers. Stressing that free expression is a human right, Twitter further added that it believes everyone has a voice and the right to use it.

“We recognise that if people experience abuse on Twitter, it can jeopardize their ability to express themselves. Research has shown that some groups of people are disproportionately targeted with abuse online. This includes; women, people of colour, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual individuals, marginalized and historically underrepresented communities,” added Twitter.

COVID-19 outbreak: Samsung collaborates with Benow for New Digital Platform in India

0

With an aim to ensure that the consumers don’t have to step out to a physical store at a time when Social Distancing is the new normal, Samsung has now joined hands with Benow to enable millions of consumers to buy Galaxy smartphones from their neighbourhood stores online. The new digital platform will also help thousands of offline retailers become part of the online ecosystem and reach out to a larger base of consumers.

“Our partnership with Benow is part of our broader online-to-offline (O2O) strategy and is aimed to provide benefits of both offline and online platforms to the consumer. With this new platform, our consumers will be able to browse, select, order, pay and receive their Galaxy smartphone from the comfort of their homes. At the same time, the new platform enables thousands of physical retailers to connect with local customers online,” said Mohandeep Singh, Senior Vice President, Mobile Business, Samsung India.

Samsung has revealed that more than 20,000 offline retailers have already signed up for the digital platform that enables consumers to buy Galaxy smartphones online from their neighbourhood stores.

Asserting that Benow believes in harnessing technology to bring customers closer to their favourite brands, Soorraj VS, Co-founder, Benow, said, “Our O2O initiative in partnership with Samsung ensures that a large number of their mobile dealers can now have an online presence and extend an Omni-channel experience to their customers. This becomes increasingly relevant during these days of strict social distancing. The beauty of the platform is that it does not call for yet another app download while giving a seamless app like shopping experience all the way to a checkout with multiple payment options to the customers.”

Wondering how the new digital platform works? Samsung shares the details of the dealer with Benow to help them become part of the new digital platform. Once the details are shared, the dealers get a link on their mobile numbers that helps them to register for the platform and download the Benow App.

In a blog post, Samsung stated: “On the Benow app, the dealer can make an online catalogue of best-selling Galaxy smartphones. This catalogue can be edited to add newer models. Once the catalogue is ready, the dealer shares the link with customers via email, SMS and WhatsApp. The dealer can also share the link on his/her Social Media channels.”

Samsung further added that the consumer can browse the entire catalogue of Galaxy smartphones through the link shared by a particular dealer. If they wish to purchase a new phone, all the consumer needs to do is place a request via the online link. The dealer gets a notification once the order is placed. By checking the Benow app, the dealer secures customer details to contact them for fixing the deal. Once the dealer gets the go ahead from the consumer, he then generates the payment link through Benow.

Besides this, Samsung informed that the customer has the option to select various payment methods like cash on delivery, credit card, debit card, easy EMI, etc. to make the payment. Upon transaction, both the customer and the dealer get digital charge slips. The dealer gets the Galaxy smartphone delivered to the customer.
