How Gaming is Making Its Way Into Your Favorite Video Games

Gambling is a thriving industry and it’s getting bigger each year to the point that any related activities can be easily accessed by people all over the world. It’s also making its way into the regular video games that we play and some probably aren’t even aware of this. However, there are already video games that do not low-key include gambling like Red Dead Online and GTA V. Both video games are released by the same gaming company, Rockstar. These games having actual casino games are simply not surprising as Rockstar has always been at the centre of controversy when it comes to its adult-only gameplay. GTA V, for example, has crime, sex, gambling, and violence in it. Now, 10CRIC is the best casino app in India and people can just easily play real money games on this. However, for people who do not want to blow up some cash on these games, they go for simulated casino gaming which is found on video games like GTA V. Playing casino games this way is now labelled as social casino gaming.

More on Simulated or Social Casino Gaming

Social casino gaming is not defined as gambling as this is a way for people to play casino games like slot machines, video pokies, blackjack, roulette, poker, and many more without necessarily spending money. However, this is also starting to become like a gateway to gambling as most social casino games are allowing people to purchase in-game currencies that supposedly have no value in the real world. This is also the case for loot boxes in popular video games like FIFA, Call of Duty, Fortnite, and PUBG. These loot boxes allow players to gain in-game items like character skins, weapons, team cards, and many more that don’t affect their gameplay but rather their gaming experience. Being able to afford these loot boxes simply means that they can spend more money on the games that they play. Loot boxes have become an issue in many countries as there have been reports of people getting addicted to them. Countries like the UK, Germany, and the United States are already taking a look at whether these loot boxes should be considered gambling. Meanwhile, in countries like the Netherlands and Belgium, it is illegal to have a loot box system (LBS) in video games. China regulates LBS by limiting the purchases of loot boxes in a day. These loot boxes have the same effects as actual gambling on a person. The desire to win is there when purchasing and opening crates. It’s similar to playing slot machine games and the more you feel like you’re close to winning, the more likely you are to spend more money. In Canada, there are already lawsuits filed against gaming companies like EA for unlawful gambling because of their games with an LBS like FIFA. However, Canada is yet to decide on whether LBS should be banned in the country. EA games are not necessarily banned in countries where loot boxes are illegal. They can still offer their games in Netherlands, China, and Belgium as long as the LBS is disabled. If more countries will also ban loot boxes, they will only have to do this.

Regulating Social Casino Games

Playing at The Vinewood in GTA V isn’t free as players need to purchase in-game currency to be able to gamble. While GTA V does this, Rockstar isn’t getting in any trouble for this just yet. After all, this video game is designed for ages 18 and up, and generally, this is the legal age for many countries. Also, if people win from playing at this casino, the in-game money they win supposedly does not have value in the real world. However, we say that it is supposedly because gamers find ways to make money from what they win from social casino gaming. A quick search would allow them to find a market where they can sell these items. While this is generally not allowed by gaming companies and is under their terms and conditions, many still get away from it. Still, the casino gameplay on GTA V is somehow better than including low-key gambling activities in other video games. Oli Welsh, the editor-in-chief of Eurogamer.net wrote about how GTA V’s casino is at least not pretending to be anything else. Welsh pointed out, “Frist, it doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what it is – gambling or at least a simulacrum of it. It’s not dressed up like some nostalgic sticker-book collection or capsule toy machine; it’s not garlanded with showy crate-opening animations. It’s blackjack and slot machines and roulette and the strictly seedy glamour of the real-life casino. “Second, it’s a sideshow. Whilst you can argue that it plays directly into the main goal of GTA Online – the accumulation of wealth – it’s certainly not the only way to go about it. Nor is it the only way to acquire cosmetic bragging rights; nor is its real-money gambling locked into core game mechanics. That sets it apart from the likes of FIFA in particular, where gambling on opening packs is central to getting better players for your Ultimate Team squad.” Overall, it’s still really up for countries to decide whether social casino gaming including loot boxes should be regulated. However, research and studies still prove that playing these games is still the gateway to actual gambling, which is why regulations may be necessary. Instagram rolls out new tools to protect users from abuse

In an attempt to put a stop to offensive comments and unwanted abuse the photo-sharing app Instagram is rolling out new tools to protect users from abuse. From now onward the app will also show strict warnings when users try to post potential hate comments on social media platforms. The new functionality will allow users to limit comments and DM requests during spikes of increased attention. While announcing the feature Instagram said, “We have a responsibility to make sure everyone feels safe when they come to Instagram. We don’t allow hate speech or bullying on Instagram, and we remove it whenever we find it. We also want to protect people from having to experience this abuse in the first place, which is why we’re constantly listening to feedback from experts and our community, and developing new features to give people more control over their experience on Instagram, and help protect them from abuse.” Instagram’s new anti-abuse tools are rolled out globally with the new Hidden Words feature, which gives people the ability to filter abusive DM requests. The move will help protect people when they experience or anticipate a rush of abusive comments and DMs so Limits- will automatically hide comments and DM requests from people who don’t follow you, or who only recently followed you easily. According to the company, this feature was developed when it came across creators and public figures sometimes experiencing sudden spikes of comments and DM requests from people they don’t know. Instagram says, “In many cases, this is an outpouring of support — like if they go viral after winning an Olympic medal. But sometimes it can also mean an influx of unwanted comments or messages. Now, if you’re going through that — or think you may be about to — you can turn on Limits and avoid it.” As per the research done by the social media owned by Facebook a lot of negativity towards public figures comes from people who don’t actually follow them, or who have only recently followed them, and who simply pile on at the moment. Creators also don’t want to switch off comments and messages completely; they still want to hear from their community and build those relationships. Limits allow you to hear from your long-standing followers while limiting contact from people who might only be coming to your account to target you. Instagram rolls out new tools to protect users from abuse Instagram Limits will be accessible to everyone and can be easily turned on/off from the privacy setting. The application is also finding ways to detect when you may be experiencing a spike in comments and DMs, so it can prompt you to turn on Limits. In addition to this people will now get Stronger warnings when people try to post potentially offensive comments. “And if they try to post potentially offensive comments multiple times, we show an even stronger warning – reminding them of our Community Guidelines and warning them that we may remove or hide their comment if they proceed,” the company explained. Rather than waiting for the second or third comment, we’ll show this stronger message the first time, this will discourage harassment and posting something hurtful. And to help protect people from abuse in their DM requests Instagram has also introduced Hidden Words, which allows you to automatically filter offensive words, phrases and emojis into a Hidden Folder, that you never have to open if you don’t want to. It will also filter out spam or low-quality DM requests. Moreover, Instagram has also expanded the list of potentially offensive words, hashtags and emojis that automatically filters out comments, and will continue updating it frequently. The photo-sharing application recently added a new opt-in option to “Hide More Comments” that may be potentially harmful, even if they may not break our rules. “We hope these new features will better protect people from seeing abusive content, whether it’s racist, sexist, homophobic or any other type of abuse. We know there’s more to do, including improving our systems to find and remove abusive content more quickly, and holding those who post it accountable”, Instagram stated. Sony SRS XG500 review: An audio bazooka

If you ask us, Sony has been leading the house party speakers segment along with LG. Sony speakers are not super expensive like some of the others, but they deliver superb sound, which is comparable to some of the best (more expensive ones) out there. The latest entrant is the Sony SRS XG500, which came to our testing table. This is the Sony SRS XG500 review, which you all need to read before buying.

Sony SRS XG500 review: Design

When it comes to design, anything that comes from the warehouse of Sony has far superior quality than the rest. They always try to give something fresh, whether it is something as simple as a headphone or the Sony PlayStation 5. Sony SRS XG500 is no different, it is something new and fresh. To start with, this is a massive 5Kg+ (weight) wireless Bluetooth speaker that has a handle running across the top with the Sony branding on it. But still, it is very luggable and this is something we are seeing for the first time. Yes, they do remind us of a Conga drum, but to be frank, the design works for us. The Sony SRS XG500 is wrapped in a mesh-type cloth that runs from top to bottom and left to right. The outlook is black entangled with white thread, which looks like the night sky. The same can be seen on the side woofers.Sony SRS XG500 review top The font top has rubberised buttons, which include the volume, power, Bluetooth and Mega Bass button that enhances the bass of any song. Underneath you will find a large rubber footing to neatly place it on any flat surface. Spin it around and you will find the ports panel, neatly tucked behind a thick rubber wall. Now you must be wondering why is there so much rubber on the Sony SRS XG500 wireless party speaker. Well, these speakers are meant for outdoor use as well, which is why Sony has got an IP66 rating for them. This means they are water-resistant and dustproof. But this does not mean you drop them in the pool, but accidental splashes on it won’t ruin them. The ports on the Sony SRS XG500 include a couple of USB ports (which can be used to charge your smartphone too), power, 3.5mm audio-in and a special guitar or MIC auxiliary port. Just in case you are in the mood for some Karaoke, you can do that with Sony SRS XG500. Sadly, the mic is not part of the package. The last thing we want to talk about in the design department is the lights. Yes, you do get ambient LED lights on both side woofers. These dance as per the tunes you are listening to, but in case you want to control them, you can download the Sony Music Centre App and do so.

Sony SRS XG500 review: Performance

Oh boy! Where do we even begin? The Sony SRS XG500 portable speakers are absolute headbangers. The sound is incredible and one of the best we have seen from any portable speaker from the Japanese major. Consumers get an array of speakers here. In total there are 6 speakers on the Sony SRS XG500. There are two square style X-balanced speakers in the front (middle), with twin high-efficiency tweeters next to them on each side (placed behind the cloth mesh) and two passive radiator audio drivers on both sides. These are built to give you the best sound experience, no matter where you are. We tested the Sony SRS XG500 with a lot of things and devices. We played music from Amazon Music and YouTube, we saw few Netflix shows connecting it to a projector and we played 320kbps songs via our smartphone using Bluetooth and not once did this extra-large portable speaker give us a chance to bicker. It kept surprising us. For a party speaker, it truly is one. It can easily fill a large to extra large living room with wonderful sound. You can also take it out to the pool or even to the roof deck and throw a party without the need of a DJ. Sony-SRS-XG500-rear The verbal audio is crystal clear, the bass is deep, and the music does not crack even at full volume. Behind this rubber wall, you will find additional buttons on the Sony SRS XG500. These include a button that will tell you battery left, one is for enabling the guitar mode, another turns the lights on or off and the last one is for party connect. Yes, you can connect multiple Sony SRS XG500’s to each other or any other party connect compatible speaker to it. As for the battery life, Sony says the SRS XG500 can last for 30 hours. But on our test bench, it needed a recharge after about 29 hours. So, what Sony says is just about right. Since a large power brick is also supplied with the speaker, it can fast charge the device and you can get 3 hours of wireless music playback with 10 minutes of charge. Over that, there are a couple of sound modes available on the app as well, which can be accessed via any iOS or Android device.

Verdict

At Rs 32,999 are the Sony SRS XG500 wireless BT speakers worth it? That is a definite yes. When compared to the likes of Bose or Sennheiser, these party speakers give you a lot of features and most of all, portability. You can grab them by the handle and take them anywhere. We loved them and so will you. It will be money well spent.

Pros:

Excellent audio Good design Ambient lights

Cons:

A bit heavy For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on TwitterFacebook and Instagram. For newest tech & gadget videos subscribe to our YouTube Channel. You can also stay up to date using the Gadget Bridge Android App. You can find the latest car and bike news here.

Samsung Galaxy M42 5G review: Company’s most affordable 5G smartphone on offer

Samsung Galaxy M42 5G is the first 5G smartphone offering by the Korean company in the mid-range segment by the company in the Indian market. This smartphone features a waterdrop-style notch display and a quad-camera setup in a square-shaped module on the back. Other key highlights of the phone include a 5,000mAh battery and it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G processor.  There is a lot of hype in the Indian smartphone market about 5G. So here is our honest genuine Samsung Galaxy M42 5G Review. In this review, we have covered all the aspects from design, display and the actual performance of the Samsung Galaxy M42 5G camera as well as its gaming capabilities.

Samsung Galaxy M42 5G review: design and display

Samsung Galaxy M42 5G comes with a polycarbonate built but the back panel has a glossy finish. The upper portion has a dark finish whereas the lower part has a lighter shade. Because of the glossy panel, the rear attracts a lot of fingerprints and smudges that have to be cleaned regularly. We have got our hands on the Prism Dot Black colour option that also gives a prism effect at different angles.  Samsung Galaxy M42 5G review: design and display The smartphone also appears to continue the company’s trend of carrying a thin profile. The device is less bulky too, however it loads a 5,000mAh battery. The company doesn’t provide silicon back cover, so we have used this phone without any protection and until now, we have not seen any scratches on the front and back.  Samsung Galaxy M42 5G review: design and display The Samsung Galaxy M42 5G feels comfortable in hands and the volume rocker and the power button are well positioned so that it is easy to reach with one hand. The phone features an in-display fingerprint scanner, which is reasonably fast and accurate. The SIM card slot is given on the left side whereas the 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port, and speaker grill are given at the bottom. While the top has a secondary microphone. To cut the cost Samsung has provided a 6.6-inch HD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-U display on the Galaxy M42 5G. The screen offers an HD+ resolution and has a 60Hz refresh rate. But we would have preferred a full-HD+ display over an HD display as that is a standard in this price category. Bezels on the sides are slim, too. The good thing is that the display is that it supports Widewine L1, so watching HD content on YouTube or other OTT platforms is not an issue. Samsung Galaxy M42 5G review: design and display The colours produced are punchy, the contrast level is good, viewing angles are also good and the brightness is adequate as well. All in all, it offers a better viewing experience but of course, it is not the sharpest display around. The audio output on the Samsung Galaxy M42 5G is just fine because of a single bottom-firing speaker.

Samsung Galaxy M42 5G review: Performance and cameras

Moving ahead into the performance department, the Samsung Galaxy M42 5G is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G SoC paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage. The good part is that its internal memory can be expanded up to 1TB via a microSD card if the need be. We got our hands on the 6GB RAM with 128Gb storage variant. Performance-wise, firstly we did not notice any major hang or heating issue. Secondly, the processor is capable of offering the option of 60FPS on Call of Duty game. Call of Duty can be played at a max frame rate along with high graphics settings. Note that the device is not a proper gaming phone, however, it comes with a pretty good balanced processor allowing a high-end gaming experience. All in all, it can handle pretty much everything that you throw at it.  On the software front, there is Samsung One UI 3.1 based on the top of Android 11. It is the latest that Samsung offers at the moment, which is one of the best custom skins you can find in the market. The best thing is that it offers features such as Knox device protection and Samsung Pay.  You will also see a new Google discover page and other significant features such as system-wide dark mode, secure folder, dual messenger and more. The UI is smooth and thankfully we haven’t seen ads or spam notifications on it, which is great. On the contrary, this mid-range phone comes with lots of bloatware, however, these apps can be uninstalled so that’s not a big deal at all.  On the connectivity front, the Samsung Galaxy M42 5G comes with four 5G bands. But at present, it does support 4G carrier aggregation. The battery backup is also quite decent courtesy of the 5,000mAh battery that comes with a 15W charger inside the retail box. In terms of medium to heavy usage, it was able to deliver a day and half days of battery life. But on light usage, we were able to get the endurance of 2 and a half days which is great. The charger’s output is quite low as it takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes to charge the phone completely.  review of Samsung Galaxy M42 5G Ok now since that’s done and out of the way, let’s talk about the cameras on the device. In terms of camera, Samsung Galaxy M42 5G comes with a quad rear camera setup consisting of a 48-megapixel GM2 primary sensor. In addition to this, there is a secondary 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, a 5-megapixel macro sensor, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. Upfront there is a 20-megapixel selfie camera. review of Samsung Galaxy M42 5G With the primary camera, we were able to shoot beautiful images having good colour reproduction, nice details and dynamic range of the highest quality. The pictures clicked indoors on the device are eminent too. The Ultra Wide shots are also balanced but don’t expect the images to be as good as the main camera produces. The macro shots are also satisfactory. Even the photos that were taken in dim lighting were well lit with decent details and nearly no noise in the output. Even portrait images are good. In terms of the selfie camera, the dynamic range and background bokeh are well managed and the skin tone looks natural. It does not produce any warm or oversaturated colours. review of Samsung Galaxy M42 5G review of Samsung Galaxy M42 5G You can record videos in 4K @ 30FPS from both front as well as from the rear cam. But it lacks video stabilisation when you choose to go with this option, but at 1080p @ 30FPS it offers stable videos. But we were not very impressed with the video stabilisation even after the EIS kicked in. It somehow missed the punchy colours.

Conclusion

Besides the HD display, there is a lot that Samsung Galaxy M42 5G comes with. The powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G SoC doesn’t throttle the performance of the smartphone in fact it comes with the best UI experience. The camera performance is not extraordinary but is decent for the pricing. So If you’re looking to buy a non-Chinese 5G mid-range smartphone, then you can consider the Samsung Galaxy M42. Also, this is the most affordable 5G smartphone that the company is offering at the moment around Rs 20K. Pros Pretty light and handy Well built Decent battery life Cons Glossy back is a fingerprint magnet HD+ display instead of a Full HD Slow charging For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on TwitterFacebook and Instagram. For newest tech & gadget videos subscribe to our YouTube Channel. Watch Out for These Top Internet Scams

When the worldwide web (www.) was initially launched, the developers kept on repeating to avoid giving out their credentials to strangers. But, unfortunately, today, we have grown so fond of the internet we tend to forget dangerous people are lurking online. Not much has improved since the turn of the decade, the majority of internet scams are familiar foes. From Russian women thinking you’re cute to Nigerian princes asking you for cash and professionals who want to help you make large sums of money at home. Hackers will build fake web pages for unsuspecting people. In 2019 the FBI had documented a record 3.5 billion lost to online scammers. However, you can download VPN for your windows to evade these hackers. VPNs will throw such people off your tail because they scramble the location of your IP address. Also, you can invest in a good firewall that can repel attacks. Today hackers are not only targeting your computer but also any other internet-ready device, including smartphones, tablets, smart cars, among others. Let’s look at some of the most rampant scams today and how you can deal with them.

Some of The Most Rampant Online Scams Today Include:

COVID-19 Scams

Online scammers are taking advantage of the Covid-19 pandemic by disguising themselves as legitimate news sources about the virus. In addition, scammers may try to send you emails, texts and even set up malicious web pages to get to you.

Some of The Most Rampant Covid-19 Scams Include:

Dubious health organizations – scammers will pose as health experts such as the CDC (centre for disease control or WHO (world health organization) Dubious non-profitable appeals – it’s no secret that many people will rally behind charitable causes such as the Covid-19 pandemic to help areas with no access to amenities such as food. Unfortunately, this is a superb chance for hackers to set up fake non-profit organizations.

Phishing

Phishing is among the most rampant online scams, and hackers are advancing their tactics. Phishers imitate the personality of a family member, friend, or colleague to get you to click on a dubious link or willingly give them your details. Phishing attacks take place globally every day, and although they take place mostly via mail, criminals are escalating their reach to cover all avenues of communication online.

How Can You Spot a Phishing Attempt?

To spot a phishing stab, take your time reviewing any texts or emails you receive on any of your devices. This can help you find discrepancies such as poor sentence structure, misspelt names, and dubious links.

Tech Support Scam

A tech support scam takes the form of an ad or phone call. Impersonators will contact you to inform you that your computer has been infected by certain malware. They will proceed to ask you to download software to clean the malware while, in fact, they are remotely taking control of the machine. Finally, after taking control of your device, they will ask you to send money or risk your data being wiped out completely.

How Can You Spot a Tech Support Con?

First and foremost, you need to understand that no tech company, including Google or Microsoft, will ever contact you to inform you that your device is infected. If an issue arises, they prompt you to change your passwords and update your security. Therefore, always double-check to ascertain you have received communication from legit tech support.

Fake Shopping Websites

Scammers have created a vast number of dubious web pages to mimic your favourite brands. Most of these web pages have been well-executed, and most times, you won’t suspect a thing. They even try to entice you with great deals such as 50% discounts.

How can You Spot a Fake Shopping Website?

If you check cautiously, you will find that the URL is similar but not identical to the real thing. Also, you could discover spelling mistakes which is something you are not likely to find on sites such as Amazon or eBay. scam careful

Form Jacking

There is a relatively new group of cybercriminals that are known as form jackers. Basically, this is an attempt to steal your credit card credentials. This happens when a real e-commerce webpage has been compromised without the owner’s knowledge.

How Can You Spot a Form Jacking Attempt?

When you visit a website and you are redirected to a different address during the payment process, most likely, the page has been compromised. Also, if you’ve made payment and the items delivered are fake or no items are delivered, you may be compromised.

Final Thoughts

All in all, online scams are not about to stop any time soon as long as there are gullible internet users out there. Therefore, when using the internet, it’s your responsibility to be careful that you don’t fall victim to some of the scams illustrated above. Exploring Gaming’s Biggest Genres in the Entertainment Industry and the Next Big Gaming Craze

The gaming industry has rapidly become the biggest entertainment sector in many countries, and in others, it’s rapidly growing to outperform the likes of music and cinema. Coming out of 2020, the video games market was estimated to be worth more than $90 billion globally, up from just over $78 billion three years prior. Gaming offers a level of immersion and physical input that other entertainment sectors simply can’t match. The hands-on nature of gaming has even proven to deliver cognitive, creative, and motivational benefits. However, that’s not to say that some of the same aspects that drive other forms of entertainment are also present in gaming. Genres, as they historically have, play a huge role in which games become popular. Here, we’re looking at the most popular game genres, how they reflect on the wider entertainment industry, and which genres of gaming are emerging into the spotlight. Why certain genres prove popular with so many people
In emerging markets, such as India, it is the games that define the genres, which is why joining Nepal to outright ban PUBG Mobile was such big news. Still, in more mature markets that have seen several years of hyped releases and have a larger paying audience, the same game genres tend to rise to prominence. The action genre is the most popular in gaming. A huge part of the action genre, however, is the first-person shooter sub-genre, which is so big that many put ‘shooter’ into its own category. Ranging from the aforementioned shooters to sci-fi action games and fighting games, all of these action games have the same style of appeal. They require quick reactions, making tactical decisions at the moment, and good hand-eye coordination. PUBG Mobile fits into this genre, as does Tekken and Halo, but the biggest of the bunch is Call of Duty, which drives its parent company’s revenues each quarter. The second-place spot is quite hotly debated, with it either going to a traditional gaming genre or a form of gaming that’s spawned from another entertainment medium. Due to what are essentially the same games selling so well each year, we’re going to slide the sports genre in as the second-most popular, as is concurred by the Straits Research piece. FIFA, NBA 2K, NHL, Madden, and Football Manager shift millions of copies every year. These games allow players to take on a controlling role of their favourite sports teams, allowing them to rewrite sports history in the game itself. Narrowly behind the sports genre is adventure. This is the genre that has perhaps the largest association with gaming, offering escapism, the chance to be the hero, or even live as a different being altogether. Of the adventure genre, the likes of The Elder Scrolls, The Witcher, The Legend of Zelda, and even the Xbox Game Pass beast that is Minecraft can be considered among the biggest titles. Action and adventure headline other entertainment genres, too
According to the calculations by The Numbers from 1995 to 2021, the market share of action and adventure movies greatly outweighs all others. Despite releasing a little under 1,100 movies each, adventure claims a 27.22 per cent share of the total box office, with action just behind at 20.48 per cent. Drama, which released over 5,400 films for this analysis, clocks in a 15.05 per cent share. Among the most successful movies of all time, you have action and adventure titles like Avatar, Jurassic World, MCU titles, and even some Fast and Furious releases. The trend continues in other genre-driven entertainment mediums, like online casinos, with the top games section of the slots platform showcasing as much. Adventure and action games like Poseidon: Ancient Fortunes, Jurassic Park, Scarab Kingdom, and Lara Croft: Temples and Tombs sit prominently among the top games – as do a couple of sports games, like 4 to Score and 11 Champions. Perhaps the biggest takeaway from gaming when it’s compared to other entertainment sectors is the overwhelming drive for excitement and escapism. Entertainment finds the most success when it’s detached from reality: even sports games offer a detachment from the real occurrences of sport. This desire to be immersed like this is why so many want great home theatre-like electronics. This, in part, would be why the emerging genre of first-person, atmospheric horror looks to be a big up-and-coming game genre. Right now, this is headlined by the 97 per cent positively reviewed Phasmophobia. The first-person ghost-hunting game draws on psychological horror elements, particularly those exercised in the best first-person horror movies, such as The Blair Witch Project, REC (and its English-language remake Quarantine), and Cloverfield. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that horror experiences are also the main drivers in VR gaming too. Action and adventure continue to be the big hitters across entertainment, with sports also being a big draw in gaming. In the near future, as more innovative titles weigh in and expand their accessibility, expect atmospheric, psychological, and the first-person horror to grow in gaming – perhaps spurring a comeback at the cinema. Optoma HD30HDR projector review: What a wonderful view

The demand for good televisions and projectors in India has surged, as more indoor entertainment options were needed during the last year and a half. People are stuck indoors thanks to the pandemic and many looked to buy bigger, better screens to watch TV channels, Netflix or just play console games. Optoma is a brand that has got some good to great projectors under its belt, serving the needs of entertainment seekers. We got our hands on the latest Optoma HD30HDR projector to understand how well the latest 4K projector is. This is our Optoma HD30HDR projector review and what we feel about it.

Optoma HD30HDR projector review: Design

When it comes to the design of the Optoma HD30HDR projector, it looks like the rest of the pack. With a large lens and lamp upfront, all the relevant keys can be found on the top and a couple of ports located on the back panel. These include 2 HDMI, 1 USB and 1 audio port. Dressed in sparkling white the front also has the IR receiver to be managed by its remote. There is a rotating zoom dial on top as well, here you can find the Optoma branding too. Beneath the Optoma HD30HDR projector, users also get a corkscrew stand. This helps in case you want to raise the screen level when the projector is placed on a hard surface that is lower than the height of the white screen or wall. This is paired with vertical keystone correction, which helps align the screen. The projector can be ceiling mounted as well; however, the mount is not part of the package. With the Optoma HD30HDR projector users also get a fully functional IR remote that works well. We tested from as far as 15 feet and it worked like a charm. Another good thing about the remote is that it is LED-backlit. In case you are in a dark or lowly-lit room, you will not find it to be a problem to use the remote. Optoma HD30HDR projector review: Performance

When it comes to the performance of the Optoma HD30HDR projector, we were super impressed. The company has made the projector with almost perfection. It supports 4K resolution and we connected it with a laptop as well as a set-top box. We played a lot of PC games on it including PUBG and Mortal Kombat X and we loved every bit of it. It was even better at gaming because the company has specially tuned it for games. The input lag is just 16ms and 120Hz refresh rate is supported to get better FPS from compliant systems. The same is the case with the set-top box. The Olympics looked exceptional on it. The colours are accurate and bright. The text is legible and there is no ghosting at all. We projected the screen on an off-white wall and the colours were good. The blacks are deep, and the hues did pop out when you play 4K videos. On the flip side, there are just 2 HDMI ports, which means only two external devices can be connected. So if you have an STB and Gaming console connected to the Optoma HD30HDR projector, then you cannot connect another device to it, unless you remove one. There is a 3W speaker in the projector, which is somewhat fine if you are sitting near it and watching TV. However, since you will be using it in large rooms, you do need external speakers connected to it via the 3.5mm audio port for the best audio experience. The Optoma HD30HDR projector can display a screen size of 120-inches from a range of 12 feet. Which we found to be the sweet spot. Though it does support up to 300-inches, we found the imagery to be the best between 100 to 150-inches. Also, unlike many other projectors, the Optoma HD30HDR projector is not noisy or does not overheat. The lamp supports 3,800ANSI and up to 15,000 hours of life in dynamic mode, which means it will last for a decade and a half. Moreover, thanks to the high brightness you can watch it with the room lights on, the projection will not wash away.

Verdict

At just over Rs 80,000 the Optoma HD30HDR projector is a great projector to own. We loved every bit of it and if you are in the market looking for a well-performing projector that will last you for long, then your search ends here. We just wish the company would have added more ports within.

Pro

Exception projection Lightweight and compact 4K support

Cons

Needed more ports The sound could have been better For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on TwitterFacebook and Instagram. For newest tech & gadget videos subscribe to our YouTube Channel.
