Today, Apple made its first major announcement of 2022. The company has unveiled the all-new 2022 model of iPhone SE powered by the A15 Bionic chipset. This is the same chipset used on the flagship iPhone 13 series. The price of the new iPhone SE will start at $429 which translates to Rs 33,000. The device is scheduled to be available for pre-order this Friday before coming on sale on March 18. The American smartwatch manufacturer Garmin today brought a new lineup of smartwatches in the Indian market. The company has released Garmin Instinct 2 smartwatch series that includes Garmin Instinct 2 and Garmin Instinct 2S. Both the models include Solar-charging editions. In addition to this, the lineup also has a Tactical Edition of the Garmin Instinct 2 Solar smartwatch.

The Garmin Instinct 2 is priced at Rs. 36,990 for the standard model and Rs. 41,490 for the Camo Edition. The Garmin Instinct 2 Solar Edition costs Rs. 46,990, while the Solar Tactical Edition costs Rs. 51,990. The regular Instinct 2 smartwatch is only available in Graphite, but the Garmin Instinct 2 Solar is available in Graphite, Mist Grey, and Tidal Blue. Xiaomi’s upcoming fitness tracker Mi Band 7 is expected to release soon. Ahead of any announcement the alleged smart band’s specifications have surfaced online. The device will succeed the existing Mi Band 6 and this time it will bear a bigger display. The smart wearable is also said to have always-on display support with GPS and smart alarm. Details of the Mi Band 7 have been spotted on Huami’s Zepp application as per a report by XDA Developers. The alleged Mi Band 7 is likely to have a 192×490-pixel display resolution, which is higher than the 152×486-pixel resolution on the Mi Band 6. In addition to this, the fitness tracker is tipped to include a new Always On Display mode on some watch faces. It is expected to include built-in GPS support, allowing it to be used to track workouts such as jogging and running without the need for a smartphone. Although as with other devices that offer GPS functionality, the GPS capability may come at the expense of battery life. Major tech giants cutting ties with Russia amid its invasion of Ukraine
Many of the major tech giants across the world have begun distancing from Russia amid its invasion of Ukraine. Companies such as Apple and Google have started distancing from Russia by cutting ties and restricting their services with the country in support of Ukraine. Due to ongoing Russia’s military actions, the Ukrainian govt itself requested approx 50 tech companies to impose sanctions on Russia. Apart from Apple, Google and Meta, other companies like AMD, Dell, TSMC, and Intel are also limiting or discontinuing sales in the country. In fact, many other firms have imposed trade restrictions while some choose to voluntarily withdraw from Russia. Below is a list of tech firms that have so far barred Russia from accessing their product and services.

Google

In support of Ukraine Google has barred Russian government-funded news organisations from using advertising tools and some YouTube features. Also, the search giant has removed RT from its news-related features and Google News search tool and removed apps associated with RT and Sputnik from its Play store. Russian state media has also been restricted from using its tools to buy ads or place advertisements on Google services. Not just his Google has ceased all advertising in Russia while some of the Russian banks have also barred access to Google Pay and Apple Pay.

Apple

Apple meanwhile announced that it would no longer be selling the iPhone and other devices in the country. Moreover, it has strictly limited users in Russia from downloading govt run RT News and Sputnik News apps outside the country, in addition to limiting Apple Pay and other services similar to Google. In support of Ukraine Apple has also disabled traffic and live incidents in Apple Maps for Ukrainian citizens.

Meta

On the other hand, Meta has also come in support of Ukraine and has restricted Russian state media from running advertisements and monetising on its social media network that includes Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram. Access to RT and Sputnik throughout the European Union has been barred. While Instagram launched encrypted direct messages to assist users in Russia and Ukraine in conducting private conversations. Also, Facebook responded by stating that it would not stop fact-checking and labelling content from state-run news organisations.

Microsoft

Joining the bandwagon Microsoft announced that it would not display any state-sponsored RT or Sputnik content on its platform while also removing RT news apps from the Windows app store and began de-ranking these sites in Bing search results. The company will also ban all advertisements from RT and Sputnik across. In addition to this, the tech giant will now put any advertisements on any of its sites.

Intel

Intel has also halted all shipments to customers in Russia and Belarus. Also, the company has raised over $1.2 million for relief through employee donation teams in surrounding areas such as Poland, Germany, and Romania.

Twitter

Another social media tech giant Twitter has begun labelling tweets that are linked to Russian state-affiliated media. To ensure public safety the company has also stopped advertisements in both Russia and Ukraine. The firm has also confirmed that it will continue restricting the visibility of RT and Sputnik content on its platform. Other companies such as TikTok, AMD, GoDaddy, PayPal, Nokia, Spotify, Netflix and more have either halted their services or stopped taking new customers. According to TechCrunch, Nothing founder Carl Pei presented a prototype of the upcoming Nothing smartphone to the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. Notably, the prototype was introduced to the key executives of the industry which included Qualcomm whom the company has collaborated with last year for the chipset, therefore, confirming that the upcoming Phone by Nothing would equip a Qualcomm processor.

The company has yet to make an official announcement about its first smartphone. But the report suggests that the Nothing smartphone could include a transparent design similar to the Nothing Ear 1 TWS earbuds, which were released in 2021. Last month Carl Pei teased the upcoming device on Twitter in a series of posts. Following which Pei’s tweets were responded to by both the Snapdragon and Android Twitter accounts. The London-based consumer electronics company announced a partnership with Qualcomm Technologies Inc. and its Snapdragon platform to power future technology products. Nothing has also raised an additional $50 million in funding from strategic and private investors to strengthen its tech ecosystem. Nevertheless, before the company releases its first Nothing Phone, it is possible that it will release a power bank called Nothing Power (1). After the confirmation to launch the all-new Redmi Note 11 Pro series in India, Xiaomi’s sub-brand is all set to bring a new smartwatch to the Indian market. On March 9 while launching its new smartphone series the company will also introduce Redmi Watch 2 Lite. The company took to Twitter to make the announcement however the smart wearable has already debuted globally in November last year. It features GPS and a heart rate monitor. In addition to this, the device comes with over 100 workout modes, including 17 professional modes. On March 9, the Redmi Watch 2 Lite will be released in India alongside the Redmi Note 11 Pro and Note 11 Pro+ 5G. The company will be hosting an online launch event to present the devices.

Redmi Watch 2 Lite specifications

As we mentioned earlier Redmi Watch 2 Lite has already debuted globally in November last year. So the specifications are expected to be the same as the global variant. The global model features a 1.55-inch TFT display with 320×360 pixels of resolution. The device comes with 100 watch faces for customisation. In addition to this, there is Bluetooth V5 for connectivity. Redmi Watch 2 Lite comes with more than 100 workout modes, including 17 professional modes. The Redmi smart wearable is also water-resistant up to 5ATM (50 metres). SpO2 and heart rate monitoring are also included in the Redmi Watch 2 Lite. The smartwatch also includes GPS-based location tracking, and 24-hour heart rate monitoring monitors sleep and stress levels. Moreover, the smart wearable is compatible with both Android and iOS and can send notification alerts from a connected device. The smartwatch has a 262mAh battery that can last up to 10 hours. It also offers 14 hours of continuous GPS connectivity on a single charge.

The Redmi Note 11 Pro is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio G96 SoC and up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM, and it runs MIUI 13, an Android 11-based operating system. The device’s display is a full-HD+ AMOLED Dot Display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. It has a 5,000mAh battery and 67W Turbocharging support. A 108-megapixel main sensor with an f/1.9 wide-angle lens, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide shooter, a 2-megapixel macro lens, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor is housed in a quad rear camera arrangement. In addition, a front-facing 16-megapixel selfie camera is included for selfies and video chats. Like the Redmi Note 11 Pro, the Note 11 Pro 5G runs MIUI 13 and has a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz.
