In order remain dominant in the worthy mid-range smartphone market, we have been hearing since long that OnePlus is prepping up to launch a new device. Several leaks have revealed that the upcoming handset will be known as the OnePlus 8 Lite. However, now news is rife that the device could be called OnePlus Z.
According to popular tipster Max Weinbach, “I was told that @oneplus is revamping the OnePlus X under a new series…The source referred to it as “OnePlus Z” and said the hardware matched the previous OnePlus 8 Lite render.” This means the OnePlus Z will be a modified model of OnePlus X that lived for a short while.
Earlier leaks have revealed that OnePlus 8 Lite or as the new name suggests OnePlus Z smartphone could come fitted with the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 chipset along with what likely can be a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with a screen refreshing rate of 90Hz. Moving on to camera front, we could likely see a 48MP primary lens, a 16MP secondary lens along with a 12MP selfie snapper fitted at the back of the device. As far as price is concerned, popular OnePlus tipster Ishan Agrawal has hinted that the OnePlus 8 Lite smartphone could be available at price-point as low as £400 (approx. Rs 37,500) in the UK.
Tipster Roland Quandt has tweeted what he claims to be OnePlus 8 official renders revealing that OnePlus Z or the 8 Lite could come in “Crazy new “Glow” color, fancy new Green color, standard Black looking pretty nice, too.” We are yet to find out when this new device will see the light of the day amid the lockdown the world is witnessing due to the Coronavirus outbreak. However, if news reports are to be believed the device might be launched next month in China.
Meanwhile, OnePlus has set up a special team to provide uninterrupted after-sales service to its customers by adjusting existing policies and operations to best maintain continuity and support. It has extended everyone’s warranty to May 31 if it expires between March 1 and May 30. The company has also extended its return and replacement period from 15 to 30 days. It is also providing free two-way shipping for all returns, replacements, and repairs.
Apart from this, OnePlus is also working on a back-up device program that will allow the users to stay connected with their loved ones if the phone is out for repair. Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, there has been a surge in WhatsApp usage across India in order to help people stay connected while they are practising social distancing. Now news is rife that WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature for India in order to bring down video status limit from 30 seconds to 15 seconds under an initiative to reduce the traffic on the server infrastructures.
A tweet by WABetaInfo has revealed WhatsApp has put a bar on time limit for videos posted under the ‘Status’ section of the Facebook-owned instant messaging app. According to the tweet by WABetaInfo, “You can no longer send videos to WhatsApp Status if they are longer than 16 seconds: only videos having a duration of 15 seconds will be allowed. This is happening in India and it’s probably an initiative to reduce the traffic on the server infrastructures.”
However, it further added that some users might be still able to post videos having a longer duration as it will take a little while for the change to be introduced pan-India. While there is a cap on the duration of videos to be uploaded under WhatApp status section, there is no limit of the number of videos a user can upload as of now. Mind you, we are yet to receive an official announcement about WhatsApp status video limit.
In these uncertain times, reliable communication is critical owing to which WhatsApp has almost doubled its server capacity and continue to see strong reliability as people place more voice and video calls around the world. Besides this, WhatsApp also introduced an information hub with tips on how healthcare workers, educators and local businesses can stay connected using this instant-messaging app. It has also donated $1 million to the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) to expand the presence of local fact-checkers on WhatsApp.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp is helping World Health Organization (WHO) to spread its Health Alert to the users of this instant-messaging app by answering common questions about COVID-19. It provides timely, reliable information about how to prevent the spread of the coronavirus as well as travel advice, coronavirus myth debunking and more.
All one needs to do to contact the WHO Health Alert, save the number +41 79 893 1892 in your phone contacts and then text the word ‘Hi’ in a WhatsApp message to get started. The service has been rolled out in English but will be available in all six United Nations languages (English, Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) soon.

According to a report by the premium smartphone company, Apple is working on its augmented reality glasses that might get launched by 2022. For a very long time, some of the rumours have suggested that the AR glasses are under development.
According to a report, the company is developing two headsets including a combination AR/VR headset that could be released by 2022 and a full-fledged AR glasses by 2023. Apple is also in talks with third-party developers to build apps for the hardware.
“Taiwan-based optical component suppliers are engaged in the development of Apple’s augmented reality smart glasses, which may be commercialized by 2022,” the report stated.
Apple’s headset is said to look similar to Facebook’s Oculus Quest. But it would be featuring a much sleeker design and the company will be making use of fabrics as well as lightweight materials to ensure the device is comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. It is suggested to offer a high-resolution display that will allow the user to read even small words and let them see other people standing in front of and behind virtual objects. Subsequently, the company will bring augmented reality glasses. As per the report, the company will be designing the AR glasses in such a way that it could be worn all day. Additionally, the glasses would look similar to high-priced sunglasses with thick frames that house the battery and chips.
The report stated that “Leaked code from an internal version of iOS 14 shows some of the ways Apple is testing their AR headset. A geolocated bowling game, which can be triggered at an intersection near the Apple office “Mathilda 3” at 555 N Mathilda Ave in Sunnyvale, California, is being tested which allows users to play bowling using the crosswalk as a lane. This office is only a few miles from Apple Park and could be one of the locations used for developing the AR headset.”

The Chinese smartphone company Oppo today has announced to extend the warranty services on its devices in India. This move came in view of ongoing pandemic coronavirus to support the customers whose device’s warranty is going to or have expired post the announcement of nationwide lockdown starting March 23.
The company in its announcement said, “In view of the ongoing pandemic and precautionary measures being taken, OPPO India, today announced its support to the customers by extending the warranty services for OPPO smartphones, accessories and even the customer service offers. The offers include extended warranty across all smartphones and accessories whose warranty has expired during the lockdown period starting 23rd March 2020.”
Other companies such as Huawei, Honor and Realme have already announced the extension of the warranty service on their devices which covers smartphones, smart wearable, audio devices (including earphones, headphones and speakers) and other accessories.
According to Oppo, the warranty extension is applicable to products purchased from authorized offline and online platforms whose validity expires post 23rd March 2020 till further notice. This move has been taken to ensure the well-being of the general public because at the moment the company has suspended all on-ground repair operations. Moreover, the Oppo has also started Online Service that will help customers with basic troubleshooting and software related issues all day long.
The extended warranty services are available under the below mentioned Terms and conditions until further notice
Warranty for smartphones that is generally 12 months has been extended
Warranty for accessories including charger, data cable, earphones and even the internal battery has been also extended
Validity extension of all Customer Service Offers including One-time screen replacement and complete damage protection
On Thursday, Realme has also announced that it has extended the warranty period on all the products till May 31. This applies to Realme smartphones, wearables, and more whose warranty expires between March 20 to April 20. Along with this initiative the company has also extended the replacement period to 30 days on devices that were purchased after March 15 to April 30.
While on the other hand, Huawei has also issued warranty extensions on all its devices till June 30 whose warranty expires between March 21 to June 21. Similarly, this applies the same to the company’s sub-brand Honor mobile phones including all the accessories as well as wearables.
To contain the coronavirus spread many countries across the world have implemented lockdown. In India, the Prime Minister also announced nationwide lockdown as COVID 19 pandemic is spreading in the country like a wildfire. The current situation seems very chaotic. In this time of social distancing people, you can still stay connected to your loved ones and enjoy the time just by staying at home.
Now Houseparty is another app that is gaining more popularity during the lockdown period. There are a couple of video conferencing apps that have helped a lot and are more bearable to stay at home while being connected with your friends and family. But Houseparty is different from them as the name suggests to allow people to play games with your friends altogether.
To recall, the social video app Houseparty was launched in the year 2016. But it has become more popular due to coronavirus and people are forced to stay indoors to contain the spread of the virus. The app is available for download on both Android and iOS. The app is owned by Epic Games the developers of popular game Fortnite. The company acquired the face-to-face social platform in the year 2019. To connect with your friend one needs to drop into a ‘room’ if your friends are online instead of hitting a call button. It works similarly to Yahoo Chat Groups to which one can connect with their friends by joining the “room”.
Now you must be wondering how the app works. For instance, you are chatting with your sister and then your brother logs and sees that you are chatting with your sister in a room then he can join that room without any hassle. But if you don’t want any relatives or even parents then you can simply lock the room. Houseparty also offers a couple of games such as Heads Up, Trivia and Quick Draw which can be played with your friends and family even when you are on a chat. Up to eight people can join the chat to avoid overcrowding. The smiley button on the top lets you view friends and notification settings.
Your friends can also invite their friends to join in but the app will warn you when someone not known drops in. You can also link Houseparty to your other social media apps such as Snapchat and Facebook to connect with more friends. The app works best when used on a laptop or a tablet.

Earlier this week Xiaomi’s spin-off Redmi launched two new devices in China. To expand its portfolio the company unveiled Redmi K30 Pro and Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition. Now Xiaomi is planning to launch one of the smartphones in India. We are very well aware that the company launched Poco F1 as the rebranded of Redmi K30 4G in the Indian market. Soon Redmi K30 Pro will make its way to the Indian market as Poco F2. The most recent MIUI Camera code suggests new development.
According to the latest report by the publisher, XDA Developer suggests that the new MIUI 11 beta confirmed that Redmi K30 Pro has been spotted inside the code of Mi Camera app. It has found the evidence which proves the possibility to launch under the Poco series. Earlier before the launch of the publisher also spotted Redmi K30 Pro (code-name “lmi”) and Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition (code-name “lmipro”). Now on further investigating the camera app, it found the traces of“lmi” or “lmiin.”
The code name “lmi” is associated with Redmi k30 Pro while “in” at the end of “lmiin” signifies India which indicates the possibility of the Indian variant of the Redmi K30 Pro.
“Thus, the device code-named “lmiin”, which we anticipate being the Indian version of the Redmi K30 Pro, is expected to display the watermark “SHOT ON POCO PHONE”. This tells us the Redmi K30 Pro may have POCO-branding when it is sold in India.” the report stated.
Redmi K30 Pro runs on MIUI 11 based on top of Android 10 OS. It features a 6.67-inch full-HD+ HDR10+ AMOLED display with 1080 x 2400 pixels of resolution and 1,200 nits of peak brightness. On the front, it features a 20-megapixel pop-up selfie camera. The device packs a 4,700mAh battery with 33W fast charging support.

With more and more people continuing their daily routine by staying at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Microsoft is introducing news ways to help in mobilization of the remote workforce. According to a ZDNet report, Microsoft, which had earlier introduced temporary adjustments to select non-essential capabilities, has now made temporary adjustments to OneNote, SharePoint and Stream video conferencing features to Office 365 services.
Microsoft has made temporary adjustment to download limit of file attachments in OneNote in order to support the Office 365 users during these unprecedented times. A post on Microsoft’s Tech Community has revealed that the tech giant will restrict the download of file attachments to 100MB for OneNote. According to the post, “Most OneNote clients limit file uploads to 50MB, so this shouldn’t impact most attachments.” However, the post also revealed about scenarios do deal with larger files that will no longer successfully download without one of the following workarounds:
If you are using OneNote for Windows 10, you could attach as a cloud file by following this path. Go to Insert > File > Upload to OneDrive and insert link. Attaching as a cloud file enables others with access to the notebook view your attachment without any size restrictions. If you don’t have access to the original file, use either of the two workarounds listed below to obtain the file, and then attach it as a cloud file.
Secondly, you could open your notebook in OneNote for the web and then go to https://www.onenote.com. Once the website opens, you click the purple Sign in button and save the attachment by right-clicking the attached file.
You could even use OneNote 2016 or another desktop version of OneNote to download the attachment. The post reveals that the officials did not expect these changes to have significant impact on users’ experiences. Among the examples of the types of changes Microsoft might take would be things like how often its services check for presence; intervals in which other parties typing are displayed; and video resolution.
As far as SharePoint is considered, Microsoft is rescheduling specific backend operations to regional evening and weekend business hours. This move creates an impact on capabilities like migration, DLP and delays in file management after uploading a new file, video or image. Besides, it also reduces video resolution for playback videos.
Microsoft is also helping millions of people adapt to remote work. The company is ensuring that the government and organisational functions can continue while keeping safe distances is critical to our society today.
“As demand continues to grow, if we are faced with any capacity constraints in any region during this time, we have established clear criteria for the priority of new cloud capacity. Top priority will be going to first responders, health and emergency management services, critical government infrastructure organizational use, and ensuring remote workers stay up and running with the core functionality of Teams. We will also consider adjusting free offers, as necessary, to ensure support of existing customers,” said Jared Spataro, Corporate Vice President for Microsoft 365.
Oppo launched its Reno 3 Pro smartphone in India at a starting price of Rs 29,990. The smartphone comes with a number of great specifications like 64MP primary camera, 8GB of RAM and 4,025mAh battery. We spent a few days with the Oppo Reno 3 Pro to know whether it’s really as good as it sounds on paper. Read the rest of our review to know what we think of it:

Oppo Reno 3 Pro design and display
As always, we’ll begin by talking about the design of the device. It is worth mentioning that the design of Oppo Reno 3 Pro’s model that has been launched in India is different from the one that has been unveiled in China. The one that has been launched in China comes with a curved-edge screen that sports a hole-punch camera. On the other hand, Oppo Reno 3 Pro that has been launched in India has a flat display and it sports a dual hole-punch on its top left corner. While the bezels that outline the display of Oppo Reno 3 Pro are thin, the chin is thicker than the rest of the three. The device’s screen also has the fingerprint scanner embedded on it.
Flip over, and you will see the gradient back panel of the smartphone. The handset is available in Auroral Blue, Midnight Black, and Sky White colour options and the one that we got for review was dressed in Blue. The back panel of the device has a glossy finish and it houses the quad-camera setup and has the Oppo branding. We should point out that the back of the handset is very prone to getting fingerprint marks so it is recommended to carry a micro-fibre cloth with yourself. The edges of the smartphone are made up of plastic. While the right one houses the power button, the left one has the volume rocker keys and the SIM tray. The bottom edge has the 3.5mm headphone jack, the Type-c port, the speaker grille and the microphone, while the top edge has the secondary microphone on it.
Coming to the 6.4-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display of the device, it was one among the pros of Oppo Reno 3 Pro. The screen showcased bright and vibrant colours that remained consistent at different viewing angles. The user also gets the option of adjusting the colour temperature according to their own preference. We literally watched films on Netflix during our time with the device and we didn’t find the experience to be disappointing even once. The images were crisp and the colour output remained consistently good.
The sunlight readability of the display was good too, and this is a very important aspect, according to is. The in-display scanner that we mentioned earlier works well at all times, even when our finger was slightly moist. In a nutshell, we can say that the display of Oppo Reno 3 Pro smartphone was definitely among its positive points.
Oppo Reno 3 Pro performance and cameras
Before we begin talking about the performance of Oppo Reno 3 Pro, let’s take a minute to look at its other specifications. The smartphone is powered by 2.2GHz octa-core Mediatek Helio P95 SoC clubbed with 8GB of RAM. The device can be bought in two storage variants: One with 128GB internal storage and the other with 256GB of onboard storage. In case users require more space, they can install a microSD card on the device. The handset runs Android 10 skinned with ColorOS 7 and it houses a 4025mAh battery that has support for VOOC Flash Charge 4.0.
Speaking about the UI of the smartphone, we should mention that it comes with some bloatware. The pre-installed apps on Oppo Reno 3 Pro include Facebook, Amazon, Opera News, Netflix, WPS Office, Helo, Gaana and DocVault amongst others. The device also comes with Game Space and Game Centre. The good thing is that these apps can be uninstalled. Other than this, the user interface of the smartphone is mostly clean. There is a smart sidebar that can be accessed by swiping right from the home screen. This includes a number of useful shortcuts like screenshot and screen recording. Other than this, there are some extra features like Smart Driving and Riding modes. Oppo Reno 3 Pro also comes with Digital Wellbeing feature of Android 10 that helps users cut down on screen time.
Coming to the performance of Oppo Reno 3 Pro, it was decent. We did not face any lag during our time with the device and with 8GB of RAM, multi-tasking was not an issue at all. However, if we compare it to other smartphones in the same range, the performance of Oppo Reno 3 Pro does not match up in terms of speed.
Gaming was also decent on the smartphone. While playing games like Alto’s Odyssey and Temple Run 2, when we tried playing graphic-hungry games like Asphalt 9: Legends, we did see some frames drop. On the upside, the smartphone never heated up or warmed up even if we played games for 30 minutes straight.
The 4,025mAh battery was one among the strong points of the Oppo Reno 3 Pro. Even with heavy usage, the smartphone’s juice lasted for almost a day and a half. The smartphone charges also pretty quickly with its 30W charger. It usually took us around an hour to charge the device completely when its cell was 0%.
The call quality of the smartphone is good and we could make and receive calls even in areas like basements and elevators. We could clearly listen and be heard at the be the person on the other end.
Finally, let’s talk about the cameras of the Oppo Reno 3 Pro smartphone. The device comes with a quad-camera setup with a 64MP primary sensor, a 12MP telephoto sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor and a 2MP mono lens. The camera of the handset also comes with 5x hybrid zoom and 20x digital zoom capabilities. For selfies and video calls, there is a 44MP front-facing snapper and a 2MP depth sensor.
Image taken with primary camera
The camera app of the device comes with Night, Portrait, Panorama, Slo-mo modes and it even has the Time-Lapse feature. The app also has support for AI Scene recognition.
The images taken during the day turned out extremely well. They had a great amount of details and the colour reproduction was very accurate and vibrant. The images taken with the primary camera of the smartphone remain good at night or in dimly-lit areas.
Image taken with ultra-wide sensor
The wide-angle camera of the device gets a lot more area in the frame, but the quality of the images taken does drop. The zoomed-in shots turned out to be decent too. The portrait shots turned out to be good too and users get the option of setting the level of blur before clicking the picture.
Zoomed-in shot
Coming to the selfies that we took with the smartphone, most of them turned out to be decent, but we did feel that there could have been more details in the images.
Verdict
To conclude, we would say that a starting price of Rs 29,990, Oppo Reno 3 Pro does come with its share of pros. The display of the smartphone is definitely its positive point. The lasting battery and the great primary camera are also its bright points. The performance of the smartphone could have been better though. If we compare that to other devices in the same range, it is somewhere behind the rest. However, the positives really outdo that. We think that you wouldn’t be disappointed if you buy the Oppo Reno 3 Pro.
