The Taiwanese smartphone company, Asus, today announced the Battle of Gods gaming tournament for ROG phone users. The online tournament has begun from today and is expected to go on for 12 weeks. 

According to the company, the participants of the Weekly Gaming Tournament series will go head to head with PUBG Mobile in order to claim the ultimate prize. The winners will get a chance to win a total pool prize of Rs 6,60,000. The purpose of the tournament is to encourage people to stay at home due to health concerns and applaud them to maintain social distancing and their social interaction through gaming under the lockdown. For this tournament, the company has collaborated with Tencent Games the developers of PUBG Mobile game.

Commenting on the launch Dinesh Sharma, Business Head, Smartphone Division, System Business Group, ASUS India said, “Abiding to the lock-down rules, we have designed this initiative to continue engagement with our ROG Phone community, enabling ROG Phone users to interact with each other through E-Sports within the safety of their homes. Further, the tournament gives our ROG Phone users a perfect opportunity to demonstrate their gaming skills and win big cash rewards. Games are the perfect platform to engage and connect.

The Battle of Gods is the first time being hosted by ROG India for the passionate gamers to indulge in some high-octane gaming and also winning ultimate prizes. The company said that the ROG phone users will go head-to-head in multiple Battle Royale rooms with the quest to rise to the top. Firstly they need to get themselves registered to be a part of the online tournament. Then on Every Friday, the participants will have to compete with each other in multiple Battle Royale rooms. After completing the top players will qualify for the final match that will be live-streamed by the eSports casters in India. The names of the winners shall be announced every week to the total pool prize of the game worth Rs 6,60,000.

The latest addition to Google search is a feature that will allow the users to add a universal watchlist for movies as well as TV shows to it if they want to kill their boredom during their long stay at home. Also, the company has begun recommending personalised TV shows and movies in the search. 

These days everyone is spending most of their time streaming television shows and movies during their stay at home. Google is now rolling out new features to help people stay connected as well as allow them access to information and entertainment. These features have been released to some of Google’s products such as Google Search and Android TV. Earlier Google’s watchlist feature was first spotted in December last year that was limited to few markets only but not the company has made its official for the global market. 

While announcing the roll out the company said, “Many of us are turning to our TVs to stay up to date and entertained while we stay in. To access fresh news and fun entertainment quickly, you’ll now find three new rows from YouTube right on your Android TV home screen.”

Now the users can create their own Watchlist in search also now they can find TV and movie recommendations in Search. This can be accessed with the help of the newly added Watchlist tab on mobile in order to keep track of what to watch next. These can be browsed through  personalized recommendations by searching “what to watch.” Or they can tap “Watchlist” in the preview window for any show or movie to add it to their list. The users can also add content to your Watchlist whenever you search for a show or movie. To quickly access your full watchlist, search for “my watchlist” or tap on Collections in the Google app.

Also now Google Play has a collection of special deals including offers on apps for movies, TV etc. 

“If you’re looking for apps on your big screen, Google Play is adding more collections to Android TV. Your favourite streaming apps are now organized in one row under “Stream the shows and movies you love.” You can also pick up a new hobby or skill with TV apps under “Learn new things.” If gaming on the TV is more your style, you can now find games to “Play with your remote” and “Play with your gamepad.”

Also, the company will now be offering free access to Stadia Pro for two months in 14 countries. It includes access to nine games, including GRID, Destiny 2: The Collection and Thumper. If you’re already a paid Stadia Pro subscriber, you won’t be charged for the next two months.

The Chinese electronics giant, Huawei, has announced the launch of its new Nova smartphone series. The new series would include Huawei Nova 7, Nova 7 Pro and Nova 7 SE smartphones that will be currently available in the Chinese market. All the devices come with 5G connectivity, dual selfie camera, a 64megapixel primary sensor and a 40W fast charging support. Read on to know more details about smartphones.

Starting with the topmost model of the series Huawei Nova Pro comes with a 6.57-inch FHD+ OLED display with a dual hole punch design and DCI-P3 wide color gamut. It is powered by octa-core Kirin 985 SoC with Mali G77 and will run on EMUI 10.1 on top of Android 10. It will be offered in two RAM and storage options 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB.

Nova 7 Pro

For optics, there is a quad rear camera setup with a 64-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens and another 8-megapixel periscope lens along with a 2-megapixel macro sensor. On the front, there is a dual selfie camera set up that includes a 32-megapixel primary sensor and an 8megapixel secondary sensor. The device packs a 4,000mAh battery with 40W fast charging support. It comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor.

The 8GB/128GB model will be available at  CNY 3,700 (Rs 39,791 approx) and the 8GB/256GB can be purchased at CNY 4,100 that translates to Rs 44,093. Huawei Nova Pro comes in black, purple, green, red, and silver colour options and is up for pre-orders in China and the will go on sale from April 28.

Next is Huawei Nova 7 comes with a smaller screen size of 6.53-inch OLED display with a punch-hole design offering 2400 x 1080 pixels of resolution and DCI-P3 wide color gamut. It also equips the same processor with 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB RAM and storage options. 

Nova 7

In the imaging department, Nova 7 also sports a similar camera set up but has a single front camera of 32 megapixels for taking selfies. Rest battery and software details are also the same as the Pro model.

The 8GB/128GB base model will be available at CNY 3,000 (Rs 32,196 approx) whereas 8GB/256GB variant will be available with a price tag of CNY 3,400 (Rs 36,489 approx). The handset will be available in five colour options Silver, Red, Purple, Black, and Green.

Last but not the least is the Huawei Nova 7 SE which is the stripped-down version of Nova 7. It comes with a 6.5-inch IPS LCD panel with a punch-hole design. It is powered by Kirin 820 SoC with 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB RAM and storage options. This handset also features a quad rear camera set up that includes a 64-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, 2-megapixel macro, and 2-megapixel depth sensor. For selfies, it sports a 16megapixel camera sensor on the front. Also, it comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Huawei Nova 7 SE

Nova 7 SE has been priced at CNY 2,400 (Rs 25,832 approx) for the 8GB/128GB model and the 8GB/256GB RAM and storage option can be purchased at CNY 2,800 (Rs 29,9955 approx). The availability details remain the same as the other two devices.

Oppo A72 with 5,000mAh battery and a 48-megapixel primary sensor launched

Seems like Oppo is on a launching spree. The company recently released three new smartphone series namely Oppo Ace 2, Oppo A92s and Oppo A12. Now again the company has introduced a new device in its A-series of smartphones. Oppo A72 has made its debut in China as a mid-range budget smartphone. However, the company is yet to announce the pricing and availability details of the handset.

Yes, Oppo A72 is another addition to its A-series portfolio. The device comes with an edge-to-edge screen with a small hole punch at the top left corner featuring a selfie camera. It features a 6.5-inch Full-HD+ LCD screen with 1,080×2,400 pixels of resolution. Instead of an in-display fingerprint sensor, the device comes with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner in order to keep the cost down. It runs on Color OS 7.1 OS based on top of Android 10. The smartphone packs in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor combined with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The internal memory can be expanded up to 256GB with the help of a microSD card.

For optics, there is a quad-camera setup on the back panel of the Oppo A72. It comprises a 48MP primary sensor with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, a 2MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor. The device comes with a 16MP selfie camera on the front panel.

Moreover, for connectivity, there is a USB Type-C port, dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It packages a 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast-charging support.

As of now, the company has not announced the pricing and availability of Oppo A72 but it is likely to arrive in global markets like India besides Chin soon. It is expected to retail between Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000. 

To recall, the company recently launched the Oppo A52 as well, which is said to share some similarity in terms of specifications as Oppo A72. It comes with a similar screen size of a 6.5-inch display with a punch-hole cutout. It sports a 12MP sensor instead of a 48MP primary sensor however the rest of the sensor details are the same. For selfies, it has an 8MP selfie snapper.

The e-commerce platform Amazon launched a few Echo devices recently, but what really grabbed our attention because of its unique compact design and that it can be directly mounted on to the power outlet is the Echo Flex. It is compact in size, in certain ways even smaller than the Echo dot. Today in our review we will be telling you about its performance design and also how to use the Amazon Echo Flex in your house, and the most important question, should you buy it?

Design

The compact design of the Amazon Echo Flex lets you use it in any room or space such as kitchen, hallway, garage, bathroom etc. It features a quadratic or you can say a boxlike design that measures 2.8 x 2.6 x 2.05 inches. You get two microphones on the front to listen to the user’s voice commands. In between the microphones, there is a LED light which is tiny in size. It turns blue when it is listening to your queries or commands. Just below you get an Action button that is similar to the other Echo devices that can be used to manually call upon Alexa to turn off/on the microphone or speaker without having to ask Alexa to do it for you. Beneath the device, there is a USB Type-A port and on the left side, you get a 3.5mm jack.

Performance

The device comes with a 3.5mm jack and it can connect two Bluetooth speakers for enhanced audio. The speaker on the Echo Flex is not as good as on the other echo devices so we do not recommend you to listen to music directly on it. It comes with two microphones but 3 out of 10 times the echo device did not pick up our voice especially when the music is playing.

The best part about the Amazon Echo Flex is that you can directly mount it on the outlet even in your bathroom. Here you do not have to worry about Flex getting soaked in water because it goes right on the outlet. You can use it to get updates while brushing your teeth as it comes with an inbuilt speaker. We also tried to listen to music while cleaning the utensils in the kitchen as the lockdown has been implemented due to coronavirus but the speakers were not too loud and we could not hear anything, which was more annoying than cleaning the utensils, but it also ensures we did not miss a call while our hands were dirty. The best part is it could still pick up our voice even while showering. Here is an advice you can also connect a waterproof Bluetooth speaker to it while showering and listen to music without any worries. But in this case, you have to shout out loud multiple times to change the music because of the weaker microphones in the Echo Flex. 

Amazon Echo Flex Review

The device does not use any counter space so you can install it anywhere, you can control your smart home with it. Since it has a USB port at the bottom you can even charge your smartphone in the kitchen, which is the most convenient feature on the device. I usually kept the Echo Flex in the kitchen while cooking because I listen to a lot of music on it. Apart from this, the Amazon Echo Flex can connect to a third-party device on it such as a doorbell to hear notification if someone is at the door. The Flex devices can also detect smoke or the sound of breaking glass, which is a bonus because there are some places in your house you do require it. Over that, it can act as a sensor in dark areas like hallways or your bathroom to turn on the lights remotely. However, both the motion sensor attachment and light are not yet available in India but it is available on Amazon US. In India, it is available with a few optional accessories such as a smart white bulb, Oak remote and Wipro smart plug.

Verdict

The Amazon Echo Flex is a really tiny device and it is more about the form factor, which is the beauty of the device as it is pretty useful. If you are not planning to listen to music on this device but are looking for a less expensive and compact product to make your home smarter this is the device to go for. In case you want to listen to music with it, you can connect a good quality Bluetooth speaker to enjoy the music without having to spend a lot of money. You can pick the one for you without having to spend much at just Rs 2,499 and make your home smarter.

Good news for gamers. Call of Duty: Mobile has announced that its first official e-sports tournament “Call of Duty: Mobile World Championship 2020 Tournament” to kick-start on April 30 in collaboration with Sony Mobile.

For those who are new to the gaming world, Call of Duty: Mobile is a free-to-play game that is a definitive first-person action experience. It features multiple modes of play, fan-favourite maps, weapons, and characters from both the Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare franchises.

In order to be eligible to participate in the “Call of Duty: Mobile World Championship 2020 Tournament”, players need to be ranked veteran or higher in Multiplayer. And if you’ve haven’t yet reached these ranks, worry not as you’ve still got time to increase your rank before the tournament starts. So keep playing and jump into the Ranked Mode lobby to view your current rank. Mind you! As a beginner you rank will Rookie I. In order to reach Veteran I rank, you need to progress through several ranks.

The 12GB of RAM with 128GB storage option of the smartphone price has been set at CNY 3,298  that translates to Rs 35,400  and lastly, the 8GB RAM with 256GB configuration will be available at CNY 3,398 that translates to Rs  36,400. All the variants of the device are now up for pre-orders and are scheduled to go on sale in China starting April 29. The handset will be available in two colour options Night Black and Sky Blue.

The gaming industry is booming and so is the popularity of PUBG Mobile game and its modes. To kill the boredom people are taking the support of mobile gaming and in order to keep things interesting, and lure more users, Tencent has been bringing new updates to add features and gameplay modes to PUBG Mobile game. Recently it brought Arctic mode to the mobile game and now it brings the most awaited modes called the Ranked Arena Mode to Team Deathmatch.

Tencent Games has rolled out  Ranked Arena Mode to the PUBG Mobile game. With the release of the new game mode, the players can now access the new game mode via EvoGround game mode selection tab. Now they don’t have to choose between pushing rank in Classic Mode or just playing a quick match through the TDM mode.

According to the company, the new game mode called Ranked Arena Mode will be available as a part of EvoGround game mode selection. Now the players can choose between random modes and maps such as Team Deathmatch, Assault and Domination in the Ranked Match. The rank starts from Bronze and goes all the way up to  Ace in the TDM mode. In order to make secure and reliable calls when you can’t be together in person, Google Duo, which is end to end encrypted, is constantly making optimizations to ensure that a user’s video calling experience is clear and uninterrupted. “Duo already uses AI to reduce audio interruptions, and in the coming week, we’re rolling out a new video codec technology to improve video call quality and reliability, even on very low bandwidth connections,” Dave Citron, Group Product Manager at Google Duo, said in a blog post.

Besides this, a Google Duo user can now capture special and everyday moments with much more ease. According to an official blog post by Google Duo, “When you’re on a video call with another person, starting today you can quickly take a photo together to capture the moment on smartphones, tablets and Chromebooks, and share it automatically with everyone on the call. You’ll be able to do this on group calls and on more devices soon.”
Apart from this, Google Duo has increased the group size to 12 participants as against 8 participants for both Android and iOS users as group calling is on the rise.

In addition, Google Duo now makes it easy to send personalized video and voice messages when you can’t call. In the recent past, the Duo users are sending 180 percent more messages, with an 800 percent increase in regions particularly impacted by social distancing. You can say “I miss you” or “I’m thinking of you” using one of our latest AR effects. Moreover, Google Duo users will soon have the option to automatically save these messages instead of having them expire after 24 hours.

Recently, the tech giant also brought Google Podcasts to iOS for the first time and adding support for subscriptions on Google Podcasts for Web.

The American multinational information technology company HP has introduced a free remote help desk for PC users in India. The company’s intentions are to provide support for all the PC users to enable productive remote working while staying connected. 

“Now more than ever, consumers are relying on technology providers like HP to support them with the right set of products and services to help in their day-to-day continuity. These are challenging times and as industry leaders, it is our responsibility to go beyond corporate boundaries and help every user out there. Today working, learning or earning from home is the new normal, and this 24/7 help desk is aimed at making sure users can do so in an uninterrupted fashion,” said Vinay Awasthi, Managing Director, HP Inc. India, Bangladesh & Sri Lanka.

The company said that with this initiative it will be helping small and medium businesses as well as individuals to stay productive while working from home. It is a limited period of free helpdesk support to PC users of all brands to enable hassle-free work from home. The government has imposed countrywide lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus. So all the office, as well as educational institutions, will remain closed till May 3 dues to this the business in the country are worst hit as they are unable to stay productive as the employees have to adopt a new working environment at their home and often face  IT-related challenges and HP aims to address these operational issues via their remote support from experts. 

According to the company, the helpdesk will have HP certified technicians to help on issues that can be addressed remotely. These include issues related to general performance, security configuration, connectivity, operating system, media support, mobility, software operation, and installation, among others. HP has also appointed a specialised team of agents who have been provided with access to work-from-home technology by HP to manage multiple queues, leveraging chat, social and web support options. 

How to avail HP’s remote services: 

The company said that for individuals this service will be available till May 31 and for small and medium business users will be eligible for this service for a fixed period of one month from the date of registration. The HP certified technicians will be addressing issues related to general performance, security configuration, connectivity, operating system, media support, mobility, software operation, and installation, among others.

267 Million Facebook Identities goes on sale on Dark Web for Rs 41,030

After Zoom being in the headlines for all wrong reasons like “Zoombombing”, now Cyble researchers have reported that one of the threat actors have dropped an online bomb by dropping the identities of 267 million Facebook Users for 500 Euros (which translates to INR 41,030.98). The compromised details include the e-mail, first name, last name, phone number, Facebook ID, last connection, status and age of 267 million Facebook users.

According to a blog post by Cyble researchers, they “executed the sale and were able to download and verify the data. The impacted users will be able to verify this on Cyble’s data breach monitoring platform, AmIbreached.com shortly.”

Cyble researchers have reported that they were not aware of how the data got leaked at the first instance, it might be due to a leakage in third-party API or scrapping. Given the data contain sensitive details on the users, it might be used by cybercriminals for phishing and spamming.

Cyble recommended Facebook users to tighten the privacy settings of their profiles, and be cautious of unsolicited emails and text messages. According to the researchers, “We are currently indexing the data at our darkweb monitoring platform, and retail users can access it via AmIbreached.com”

Earlier this year, Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Facebook, had said, “Every day, platforms like Facebook have to make trade-offs on important social values — between free expression and safety, privacy and law enforcement, and between creating open systems and locking down data.”

“Often it is as important that decisions are made in a way that people feel is legitimate. I don’t think private companies should make so many decisions alone when they touch on fundamental democratic values. That is why last year I called for regulation in four areas: elections, harmful content, privacy and data portability,” he added.

Facebook, in a blog post, stated that the social-networking giant already publishes more detailed reports about harmful content than any other major internet service, and we’ve shown regulators how our systems operate. The company is also looking at opening up its content moderation systems for external audit.

Apart from this, international agencies also use Facebook’s Data for Good programme to figure out which communities need help after natural disasters, and governments use our publicly available population density maps for vaccination campaigns.

The Chinese smartphone company, Realme, has announced the launch of its new 5G device in China. The company has launched the Realme X50M, which is a stripped-down variant of Realme X50 that was introduced earlier this year. The device comes with a 120Hz display, 30W Dart fast charging support and Snapdragon 765G SoC. Besides this, it features a quad rear camera setup with a 48-megapixel primary sensor. The company launched the device in the mid-range segment, which might also arrive in the Indian market soon. Check out the pricing and full specification details of the newly launched device.

Realme X50M pricing and availability

Realme X50M has been launched in China and is a toned-down version of Realme X50. The company has introduced the device in two different configurations of 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage and 8GB RAM with 256GB storage model. The base model that is the 6GB version will be available with a price tag of  CNY 1,999  that translates to Rs 21,500 whereas the 8GB RAM variant has been priced at  CNY 2,299 that translates to Rs 25,000. The handset will be available in two colour options Starry Blue and Galaxy White. The device will be up for sale in China starting April 29th.

Realme X50M runs on Realme UI based on top of Android 10. It features a 6.57-inch full-HD+ IPS display with 1,080×2,400 pixels with  20:9 aspect ratio and 120Hz refresh rate. The display panel comes with a 90.4 per cent of screen-to-body ratio. The handset is powered by octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset paired with up to  8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB UFS 2.1 storage.

In the imaging department, Realme X50M comes with a  quad rear camera setup consisting of a 48-megapixel primary lens with f/1.8 aperture. The setup is further assisted by a secondary 8-megapixel lens with 119 degrees of field of view and f/2.3 aperture, a 2-megapixel  macro lens with f/2.4 aperture and lastly a  2-megapixel quaternary monochrome sensor with an f/2.4 aperture. The device features a dual selfie camera setup that includes a 16-megapixel primary Sony IMX471 sensor with a 2-megapixel secondary sensor.

In terms of connectivity, the Realme smartphone includes  5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C port. The sensors included are an accelerometer, ambient light, gyroscope, magnetometer, a proximity sensor and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for authentications. Moreover, it houses a 4,200mAh battery with 30W Dart fast charging tech support.

By looking at the spec sheet it is clear that Galaxy S20 Ultra comes with a slightly bigger display. Both the devices comes with a 108-megapixel Samsung’s ISOCELL Bright HMX sensor but Smasung offers a better camera setup on the front also S20 Ultra takes on Edge+ as it offers a 40-megapixel selfie camera. Both the devices equip a 5000mAh battery however with Samsung you get 45W fast charging support whereas Motorola offers an 18W fast charging support. But if you are on a tight budget then you need to wait for a few more weeks until Motorola brings Edge+ in India because that might cost you almost half the price of Galaxy S20 Ultra.

Lenovo owned company Motorola has finally unveiled its new flagship Motorola Edge series officially. The series includes two new devices Motorola Edge+ and Motorola Edge. Both the devices come with a waterfall curved hole punch design display along with a triple rear camera set up. The company introduced the device via an online launch event that will be available in the US starting May 14. The Indian availability of the devices will soon be revealed by the company. The smartphone company Motorola launched Motorola Edge+ and a toned-down variant Motorola Edge. The Edge+ has been introduced with an asking price of  $999 that translates to Rs 76,400 for the 12GB RAM with 256GB storage and the device will be available for purchase in the US starting May 14. Whereas the pricing and the availability for the Edge is yet to be announced. Edge+ will be available in two colour options  Smoky Sangria and Thunder Grey whereas Motorola Edge comes in Solar Black and Midnight Magenta colour options.

In terms of imaging Motorola Edge also features a triple rear camera set up consisting of a 64-megapixel primary camera with f/1.8 aperture and 0.8-micron pixel size. Further assisted by a 16-megapixel wide-angle camera with  117-degree field of view and  f/2.2 aperture, and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture and  2x optical zoom. It also gets a ToF sensor. While on the front there is a 25-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture.

With remote work becoming the new normal as the world is fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, Google has now rolled out four most-requested Google Meet features to make people stay connected even while they’re apart.

As the number of people connect on Google Meet is growing rapidly, Google has introduced four of their top-requested Meet features like Google AI to improve meeting quality and user experience, and will gradually roll out to customers across the world. These include: Tiled layout for larger calls, Present higher-quality video content with audio, Low-light mode and Noise cancellation. With these new features, the tech giant aims to ensure that the users have the features they need to share and be productive.

Looking at the Tiled layout for larger calls, Google has stated that “The expanded tiled layout now lets web users simultaneously see up to 16 participants at once (previously, tiled layouts only enabled you to see four people at a time). More updates are coming for larger meetings, better presentation layouts, and support across more devices.”

As far as presenting higher-quality video content with audio feature is concerned, an official blog post by Google revealed that the users now have the option to present a Chrome tab (instead of just presenting their window or entire screen). If you need to share high-quality video with audio content in meetings, select this option for the best experience for remote viewers.

Besides this, the Low-light mode allows Google Meet to use AI to automatically adjust your video to make you more visible to other participants in sub-optimal lighting conditions. According to Google, “This feature is currently rolling out to mobile users, and will be available to web users in the future.”

Coming over to Noise cancellation feature, this will help limit interruptions to your meeting. According to Smita Hashim, Director of Product Management, Google Meet, Voice & Calendar, “Meet can now intelligently filter out background distractions—like your dog barking or keystrokes as you take meeting notes. Noise cancellation will begin rolling out in the coming weeks to G Suite Enterprise and G Suite Enterprise for Education customers starting with web users and later to mobile users.”

“We are constantly finding ways to enhance security and privacy for all users, such as adding new moderator controls to help educators more effectively manage their meetings and protect their students,” she added.

Amidst COVID-19 lockdown, the popular social media platform Facebook has now decided to expand the reach of its Messenger Kids app to more countries along with new features. The company has announced to launch the kids focus messaging service to more than 70 countries including India. 

Facebook launched the Messenger Kids initially in the US in the year 2017 followed by Canad and Perur in the year 2018. From now on, the Messenger kids will be available for download via App Store, Google Play Store and Amazon Appstore in selected regions or iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and all Android devices. 

While expanding the reach to the other countries the company states, “With schools closed and people physically distancing, parents are turning to technology more than ever to help their kids connect with friends and family. Messenger Kids is a video chat and messaging app that helps kids connect with friends and family in a fun, parent-controlled space. Facebook is also teasing how the Messenger Kids app will work and how the parents can use the platform to allow their kids to learn remotely as their schools and educational institutions are closed due to coronavirus. Now the children will be able to manage their contact list under their parent’s supervision. Earlier the parents used to invite and approve every contact for their child with the fresh update using the parents can choose to allow their kids to also accept, reject, add or remove contacts, while maintaining the ability to override any new contact approvals from the Parent Dashboard. When the child approves or rejects friends invite in Messenger Kids their parents will be notified via Messenger, also they can keep a tab on their recent activities by going to Parent Dashboard. The Supervised Friending feature is being rolled out in the US and will gradually reach other markets.

The children will be able to connect through groups and the feature allows parents the choice to approve a similar adult to help connect their child with other kids through a group in Messenger Kids. The approved adults can only connect to kids until their parents have granted the adult the same approval. The teachers, coaches, parents and other leaders will be able to access this feature. Once connected through a group in Messenger Kids, kids will also be able to chat with each other individually. Kids can also leave groups they’re added to at any time. From now on the parents can also choose to make the kid’s name and profile photo visible to friends of their kid’s contacts and their parents, kids of the parent’s Facebook friends, and kids of people parents invite to download the Messenger Kids app.

Samsung aims to introduce 600MP image sensor to make invisible visible

In the recent past, mobile phone cameras have become the main instrument for recording and sharing our everyday moments with our loved ones instantly. We witnessed how Samsung expanded its 0.8μm image sensor line-up from 20MP, 48MP, 64MP to now ultra-high 108MP resolutions. Now, it seems that the South Korean tech major is aiming to introduce 600MP camera sensor for all its devices.

In an editorial on topic ‘Rivalling the Human Eye: How Samsung is Opening Up the Possibilities for Image Sensor Technology’, Yongin Park, EVP, Head of Sensor Business Team, System LSI Business, said, “To date, the major applications for image sensors have been in the smartphones field, but this is expected to expand soon into other rapidly-emerging fields such as autonomous vehicles, IoT and drones. Samsung is proud to have been leading the small-pixel, high-resolution sensor trend that will continue through 2020 and beyond, and is prepared to ride the next wave of technological innovation with a comprehensive product portfolio that addresses the diverse needs of device manufacturers.”

With relentless innovation, Samsung is determined to open up endless possibilities in pixel technologies that might even deliver image sensors that can capture more detail as compared to human eye.

According to Samsung, the image sensors of human eyes are said to match a resolution of around 500MP. In order to be able to match human perception capabilities, a lot of work has to be done as most DSLR cameras today offer 40MP resolution while flagship smartphones deliver mostly 12MP resolution.

In May 2019, Samsung was able to announce the smartphone industry’s first 64MP sensor. ISOCELL Bright GW1 is a 64MP image sensor that pixel-merging Tetracell technology and remosaic algorithm. It can produce bright 16MP images in low-light environments and highly-detailed 64MP shots in brighter settings.

In February this year, Samsung had unveiled 108Mp sensors in the smartphone market. For the 108Mp image sensor, the ISOCELL Bright HM1, Samsung implemented its proprietary ‘Nonacell technology,’ which dramatically increases the amount of light absorption pixels are capable of. Compared to previous Tetracell technology which features a 2×2 array, the 3×3 pixel structure of Nonacell technology allows, for instance, nine 0.8μm pixels to function as one 2.4-μm pixel. This also mitigates the issue raised by low-light settings where light information is often scarce.

Facebook pumps in Rs 43,574 crore in Reliance Jio Platforms

With an aim to open new doors and fuelling India’s economic growth and the prosperity of its people, Facebook and Reliance Jio Platforms has announced the signing of binding agreements for an investment of Rs 43,574 crore by the social-networking giant into the wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited. This investment by Facebook will translate into a 9.99 percent equity stake in Jio Platforms on a fully diluted basis.

The partnership between Facebook and Jio is unprecedented in many ways. This is the largest investment for a minority stake by a technology company anywhere in the world and the largest FDI in the technology sector in India.

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder and CEO, took to the social-networking platform to share an update on the deal with Jio Platforms. According to him, “Facebook is teaming up with Jio Platforms — we’re making a financial investment, and more than that, we’re committing to work together on some major projects that will open up commerce opportunities for people across India.”

Asserting that India is home to the largest communities on Facebook and WhatsApp, and a lot of talented entrepreneurs, Zuckerberg added, “With communities around the world in lockdown, many of these entrepreneurs need digital tools they can rely on to find and communicate with customers and grow their businesses. This is something we can help with — and that’s why we’re partnering with Jio to help people and businesses in India create new opportunities.”

The investment of Rs 43,574 crore by Facebook values Jio Platforms amongst the top 5 listed companies in India by market capitalization, within just three and a half years of launch of commercial services, validating Reliance Industries’ capability in incubating and building disruptive next-generation businesses, while delivering market defining shareholder value.

Commenting on the partnership with Facebook, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director, Reliance Industries Ltd, said, “All of us at Reliance are therefore humbled by the opportunity to welcome Facebook as our long-term partner in continuing to grow and transform the digital ecosystem of India for the benefit of all Indians… In the post-Corona era, I am confident of India’s economic recovery and resurgence in the shortest period of time. The Lenovo owned smartphone company Motorola is all set to launch its new flagship smartphone model in the market. As scheduled the company is going to introduce the Motorola Edge series which is expected to include two devices namely Motorola Edge and Motorola Edge+. Both the devices have been part of the rumour mills since a very long time. Today the company will be hosting an online launch event to unveil its latest flagship device of 2020.

Last week Motorola officially announced that it is going to launch a new smartphone with the waterfall edge that is expected to be the rumoured Motorola Edge series. As decided the launch event will begin at 11 AM CDT (9.30 PM IST). The company, however, did not reveal the how to watch the live streaming only it revealed that  it is going to be unveiled via an E-event referred in the video teaser which stated, “Join us for the Motorola Flagship Launch E-vent.” But the company has created an add to calendar blog where the online launch event is going to be webcast. Motorola Edge and Motorola Edge+ will be launched globally so it is expected to arrive in the Indian market as well. However, the company has not confirmed when the series will make its way to India.

Motorola Edge Series expected specifications

As per some reports, the Motorola Edge+ is the top variant from the series. It is expected to feature a  6.67-inch full-HD+ curved display with 1,080×2,340 pixels of resolution and 440 ppi pixel density.  It is likely to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor paired with 12GB of RAM. For optics, it is suggested to include a triple rear camera setup which might include a 108-megapixel sensor. The device is said to pack a 5,170mAh battery and will run on Android 10.

Whereas the Motorola Edge is a regular model from the series which is expected to sport a similar screen size with a  single hole-punch display. It is expected to include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor with 6GB of RAM. As per the leaked images, the device will also include a triple rear camera setup with a 64-megapixel primary sensor and a 16-megapixel secondary sensor as well as an 8-megapixel tertiary sensor. Also, the alleged live image shows a  laser autofocus sensor.

WhatsApp increases the limit of participants for group voice or video calls

Recently, we reported that the Social media app Whatsapp is planning to increase the limit of participants for its group call. The chatting app is now rolling out the latest beta update of the increased group call limit for Android and Whatsapp users. As per a report, the company has increased the limit up to eight participants in a group video or voice call. Earlier the much anticipated increased group call limit was four only, which now has been doubled in order to take on other video conferencing apps like Zoom.

During the coronavirus pandemic, the business of the gaming sector and video conferencing apps and tools have been on a boom since all the countries have imposed lockdown to contain the spread.

Earlier, Wabetainfo released a report in which it hinted that WhatsApp’s plan to set a new limit of participants for its group call is in the pipeline in which the users will be able to create a call with more than 4 participants. However, this feature was under testing with Android and iOS beta versions only. 

In a new development, the publisher has now found that the chatting platform has applied some new changes to the call button in groups. According to the reports, those users who were a part of a small group with 4 participants will be able to make a direct call to all the four group members without having to choose the participant because automatically all the members will be added in the call. This feature was under testing allowing to add more than 4 participants in a call which also includes adjusting the UI to allow to see more participants.

The social media app is rolling out the iOS and Android beta update to everyone with the possibility to add 8 participants in a group voice or video call. “Precisely, you need to install the 2.20.50.25 iOS beta update from TestFlight and the 2.20.133 beta from Google Play. Other participants need to be on the same versions, otherwise, they cannot be added in the group call,” the report added.

For making a group voice or video call the beta users have to open a group and tap the call button. If the group has more than four members in a group that app will ask to choose the contacts you wish to call. Those members who have not saved your contact won’t be added in the call. Or you need to open the calls tab in your app then tap the call button. After that, you can select a new group call in which you can select contacts you wish to call.

The new feature will be useful to those who are well aware of the other video calling tools or apps other than WhatsApp to keep in touch with their family or friends stuck far away from home due to lockdown.
