After Apple recently release the iOS 14’s beta mode, news is rife that it showcased the green “camera on” indicator for the users while they were reading posts on Instagram even without being involved in any camera-related usage. The control panel ratted out the app behind it. Mind you! The Cupertino-based giant notified the green notification dot on the iOS 14 alerts a user when the device’s camera is being used.
An Instagram spokesperson said in an email to The Verge that the behaviour was a bug and that it’s being fixed. The app’s Create Mode is accessible from the Instagram camera which could set off the camera indicator, and swiping into the app’s Camera from Feed may also trip it up.
“We only access your camera when you tell us to — for example, when you swipe from Feed to Camera. We found and are fixing a bug in iOS 14 Beta that mistakenly indicates that some people are using the camera when they aren’t. We do not access your camera in those instances, and no content is recorded,” the Instagram spokesperson told The Verge.
https://twitter.com/KevDoy/status/1283987495948914689
Instagram asserted that the system sometimes considers that the user has swiped the finger to open the in-app camera. In reality, the user might not have opened the in-app camera. The Facebook-owned photo-sharing app assures to fix this problem in a future update of its iOS app.
“Meanwhile, we’re rolling out a new way to raise money on Instagram for a personal cause, like yourself, your small business, a friend or a cause that’s important to you. You can already raise money for personal causes on Facebook and we’re excited to bring this tool to Instagram. We’ll begin with a small test to create a Personal Fundraiser in the US, UK and Ireland. If you live in a country where you can donate to a fundraiser through our donation sticker, you are also eligible to donate to a Personal Fundraiser,” revealed a blog post.
Since January, people have raised more than $65 million for COVID-19 and racial justice fundraisers globally across Instagram and Facebook. And in the last 30 days, donations on Instagram have doubled in the US. From people raising money to buy medical equipment for Black Lives Matter protesters, rebuilding Black-owned small businesses affected by COVID-19 and funding educational resources related to racial justice, people are eager to mobilize around causes they care about. Now, we’re making it easier to create fundraisers directly on Instagram that benefit such personal causes.
In order to create a Personal Fundraiser on Instagram, tap Edit Profile, Add Fundraiser and then Raise Money. Choose a photo, select a fundraiser category and add details to help tell your story and encourage others to donate. “Then you’ll enter your information for Stripe, our payment processor for donations. And when you’re finished, you’ll tap Send to submit your fundraiser for review. All fundraisers go through a review process to make sure they are for eligible causes. Once approved, you can start raising money. Each fundraiser lasts 30 days, but can be extended as many times as you want. You must be at least 18 years old to create a fundraiser,” as per the blog post.

Poco is the by-product of the Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi. They recently launched the Poco M2 in the country. In India Poco M2 Pro has three variants of 4GB of RAM with 64GB of storage at Rs 13,999, 6GB RAM with 64GB storage at Rs 14,999 whereas the 6GB RAM with 128GB storage variant price has been set at Rs 16,999. For the review, we have received 6GB RAM with 64GB storage option. So, without further ado, let’s begin the review of Poco M2 Pro to know how it is different from other smartphones in the same segment.
Poco M2 Pro Design and Display
On opening the box, the first thing that came to our mind is that we have already seen a device with a similar design. The Poco M2 Pro looks have been inspired by the Redmi Note 9 Series. Only the branding is different, else everything is very similar. Here we are not only talking about the design aspects but (to an extent) the specifications are also the same. You can check out here how both phones share similarities.M2 ProYou get a large hole-punch design display although there is a 5,020mAh battery it is bulkier and a bit slimmer with curved edges. The display comes with a layer of triple Corning Gorilla glass 5 for safety. The selfie camera is positioned inside the hole punch at the top centre of the phone. While on the right side the volume rocker and a power button integrated with a fingerprint scanner are given. At the bottom, users can find a 3.5mm audio jack with the USB Type-C port for charging, a mic and a speaker grille. The rear panel of the smartphone comes with a glossy finish, we have the Greener than Green version for testing, nonetheless, it is available in two more shades (Out of the Blue and Two Shades of Black). The bottom two-thirds part of the back panel has an angular striped pattern which has a Poco logo. Over that, the device comes with P2i water-repellent coating. Also, a camera bump with quad sensors has been placed right at the top centre of the phone. We must say, the overall design of the Poco M2 Pro is quite attractive.Moving on the display, the phone features a 6.67-inch full-HD+ display with a 20:9 aspect ratio offering 1,080×2,400 pixels of resolution. It lacks a higher refresh rate, which could be disappointing for gamers. If you are a Poco fan and looking for a device with a high refresh rate then this phone is not for you as here you get a standard 60Hz display, however, a 120Hz panel is available on the Poco X2. The mobile phone performed smoothly when playing games like Subway Surfer and Asphalt 9. Slight lag was seen at times, but nothing that will put you off.The display is bright and produces punchy colours and is visible in direct sunlight. As the display is Widevine L1 certified streaming Netflix and Amazon Prime Video is a treat. Not to forget, for the readers the device comes with a night mode and reading mode so that your eyes don’t stress. For the price, we think the company is offering a really good display.
Poco M2 Pro Performance and Camera
Poco M2 Pro is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The internal memory is expandable by up to 512GB using a microSD card. The device is pretty good at managing day to day tasks, but on some occasions (especially when multitasking) the handset slows down. So remember to keep the memory free by shutting down the not used apps running in the background. We also tested playing heavier games on its such as PUBG Mobile and it did well even on high graphics settings. However, the phone heats up when you play games for long hours or when the camera app is running in the background.Poco M2 Pro reviewThe Poco M2 Pro runs on MIUI 11 skinned on top of Android 10. Instead of running MIUI launcher, it runs its own Poco Launcher as default. It comes with a lot of unnecessary apps which we hardly used. The saving grace is that you can also get rid of all the junk by uninstalling or disabling or not providing app permissions. There are lots of third-party apps, which have already been banned in India such as Helo and some others. But we are sure, with the next update these would be driven out of the phone. Since there is a single speaker on Poco M2 Pro, we found the sound to be on the lower side. We would have appreciated a little more volume coming front the audio driver.Poco M2 Pro reviewNext, let’s talk about camera performance. First, let’s take a look at what the smartphone brings. On the rear panel, you get a quad rear camera set up that includes a 48-megapixel primary sensor, a secondary 8-megapixel Ultra-Wide-angle lens and a 5-megapixel macro lens as well as a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Upfront there is a 16-megapixel selfie camera sitting inside the hole-punch display. We have to mention, the Poco M2 Pro’s camera specs are also similar to Redmi Note 9 Pro. We were quite satisfied how well the camera performed in both bright as well as low light conditions, which we were missing during the Note 9 Pro Max review (read here). The outcome is fantastic. The pictures are very detailed and punchy that you just can’t stop at one. We even took a few pictures in a moving vehicle and still got appealing images. And yes, to add glory to your pictures the pro mode on the camera app go us splendid beautiful aspects of the subject. On the less bright side, the 48-megapixel mode does not have support for HDR. If you are just like us who is inclined towards extreme close-up photography then this phone is not for you, we would recommend Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. The macro shots lack a bit of detail, however, the colours look vibrant which made the overall picture look good. The device also had some issues in focusing the subject which simply puts our mood off.Poco M2 Pro reviewThe portrait mode is perfect and the shots clicked looked pretty good. Same was the case with ultra-wide mode, but we would have appreciated a little more edge clarity. The video mode on the Poco M2 Pro is outstanding; it can capture 4K video at 30FPS. Also, one can record macro and ultrawide videos at 1080p, 30FPS. You also get an option to shoot cinematic videos in a 21:9 aspect ratio. All of them came out vibrant and very close to life. As for the battery, the Poco M2 pro is backed by a 5,000mAh battery that is pretty good for an average user like us. The battery lasted for more than a day of nominal use. The device is bundled with a 33W ultra-fast charging that charges the device fully in about 1 hour 30 minutes. This was missing in Redmi Note 9 Pro.
Verdict
The overall performance of Poco M2 Pro is satisfactory. For a price tag of Rs 14,999, the device performs well while offering a great battery life. It takes stunning pictures and yes, the low light images are also pretty good. The smartphone is well designed giving a premium feel. The price also makes sense as it is an all-rounder.Pros
33W fast charging
Longer Battery Life
Looks premium
Cons
Higher refresh rate panel missing
Camera performance could have been better

Achieving an important milestone on its way to the launch pad, NASA has announced that its Mars 2020 Perseverance rover mission has cleared the Flight Readiness Review. The meeting was an opportunity for the Mars 2020 team and launch vehicle provider United Launch Alliance to report on the readiness of the spacecraft, along with the Atlas V rocket, flight and ground hardware, software, personnel, and procedures. According to NASA, the daily launch window opens at 7:50 a.m. EDT (which translates to 5:00 p.m. IST) on Thursday, July 30.
According to NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine, “This mission is emblematic of our nation’s spirit of meeting problems head-on and finding solutions together. The incredible science Perseverance will enable and the bold human missions it will help make possible are going to be inspirations for us all.”
Expressing happiness on passing another milestone with the completion of the Flight Readiness Review, Matt Wallace, deputy project manager for the mission at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Southern California, said, “But we’ll keep our heads down through the final prelaunch activities and the opening of the launch window next week, until we’re certain this spacecraft is safely on its way. Mars is a tough customer, and we don’t take anything for granted.”
With all the connections between the spacecraft and Atlas V launch vehicle complete, the majority of business remaining for Mars 2020’s Assembly, Test, and Launch Operations (ATLO) team involves checking out every one of the multitude of systems and subsystems onboard the rover, aeroshell, cruise stage, and descent stage.
Stating that NASA can’t wait to take the next steps on the surface of Mars with Perseverance, Lori Glaze, director of the Planetary Science Division at NASA Headquarters in Washington, said, “The science and technology of this mission are going to help us address major questions about the geologic and astrobiologic history of Mars that we’ve been working on for decades, and we’re excited to take the whole word with us on this journey.”
At this point, the spacecraft has been powered on and will remain so around the clock. The launch operations team will continue to monitor the health of the spacecraft to ensure it’s ‘Go’ for launch – nothing glamorous, but an important part of the job.
Mars 2020 Perseverance spacecraft and launch teams have one more major review to complete. Scheduled Monday, July 27, the Launch Readiness Review is the last significant check-up before the mission receives final approval to proceed with launch.
Around 1 p.m. EDT on July 27 (which translates to 10:30 p.m. IST), or approximately one hour after the Launch Readiness Review ends, the agency will hold a pre-flight news conference that will air live on NASA Television and the agency’s website.
NASA revealed Mars 2020 Perseverance rover’s astrobiology mission will search for signs of ancient microbial life. It will also characterize the planet’s climate and geology, pave the way for human exploration of the Red Planet, and be the first planetary mission to collect and cache selected samples of Martian rock and regolith (broken rock and dust). Subsequent missions, currently under consideration by NASA in cooperation with ESA (European Space Agency), would send spacecraft to Mars to collect these cached samples from the surface and return them to Earth for in-depth analysis.
The Mars 2020 mission with its Perseverance rover are part of America’s larger Moon to Mars exploration approach that includes missions to the Moon as a way to prepare for human exploration of the Red Planet. Charged with sending the first woman and next man to the Moon by 2024, NASA will establish a sustained human presence on and around the Moon by 2028 through NASA’s Artemis program.

With privacy is at the heart of Messenger, Facebook has now announced App Lock and new privacy and security features that give its users more control to be with the people who matter the most via a message, video chat, call or a Messenger Room. The feature is available on iPhone and iPad and will come to Android in the next few months.
According to Facebook, App Lock enables the users to add another layer of security to their private messages and helps prevent other people from accessing them. This optional feature gives them the confidence to know that if a friend or family member needs to borrow their phone, they won’t be able to access the chats.
Moreover, Facebook’s App Lock uses the device’s privacy settings like fingerprint or face authentication to unlock the Messenger app, and the touch or face ID is not transmitted to or stored by Facebook.
Facebook users can find this feature in the new Privacy settings section. The Privacy section makes it easy to access settings and features like the audience for their stories, muted stories and blocked people. “App Lock and the Privacy section let you tailor your experience and choose settings that work best for you. We’re always working to give you more control over your privacy, so as we introduce more privacy features, you’ll have this centralized place to find them,” said Jay Sullivan, Director of Product Management, Messenger Privacy and Safety.
“People tell us that they want more controls over their inbox and calls. That’s why we’re working on new controls so you can decide who can message or call you directly, who goes to your requests folder, and who can’t message or call you at all. This will be similar to the message controls on Instagram, and we’ll share more details when we start testing these controls,” added Sullivan.
Facebook is also exploring more ways to protect the privacy and safety when someone they don’t know sends them a message. The Mark Zuckerberg-owned social media giant will also be testing a feature similar to what exists on Instagram and WhatsApp that blurs images in your message requests folder. This way, the Facebook users have the choice to view an image from someone they may not know before replying to the message or blocking or reporting the account.
