Nokia to release a new Qualcomm 5G supporting smartphone soon

HMD Global has recently been in a tough spot. The competition in India and abroad got tough from the likes of Realme, Motorola and Vivo that cater to the same price segment. The company is now waiting for the tides of fortune for Nokia smartphone division through 5G. To do this, the company is relying on Qualcomm’s new 5G ready processors. The company announced at the Snapdragon Tech summit on December 3 that the company will soon release a 5G phone with a Snapdragon 765 processor and an integrated Snapdragon X52 5G modem.

On the first day of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit, the Finland based company’s Chief product officer, Juho Sarvikas revealed the brand new phone and that it will be launched soon. The teaser poster showed a copper coloured frame and a side-mounted fingerprint panel and a curved rear panel with circular camera housing on it.

Juho Sarvikas also revealed that the new and upcoming Nokia smartphone will house Nokia’s very own Zeiss camera technology. The phone will also have PureDisplay technology, which supports HDR10 video playback support and upscale SDR content to HDR through a 16-bit engine, which is constantly working. The phone may also have 4K HDR video recording support if it has a Snapdragon 765 processor.

“Our highest priority for 2020 is making 5G more accessible – bringing an affordable yet premium grade, future proof 5G experience for the best possible performance in NSA and SA networks with the Snapdragon 765 Mobile Platform”, Sarvikas was quoted as saying in the official Qualcomm press release.

This possibly means that the new Nokia phone will have dual-mode 5G support. Details of this phone might go official at the company’s event on December 5 in Cairo. However, we are still doubtful of the smartphone as one of the biggest mobile markets in the world, India, is still on 4G band and 3G in some sectors and upgrading to 5G is not happening anytime soon. So, the phones by Nokia might come to India with limited power.

The Black Widow is coming – Trailer out now.

Back in 2010, Iron Man 2 introduced us to the secret assassin, Natasha Romanoff. She made herself dear to the fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe by helping find the Avengers and by taking down intergalactic threats until she sacrificed herself for the sake of the universe in Endgame. However, after many years as a secondary character, Natasha will soon get a movie of her own, in the upcoming Black Widow, whose trailer was released by Marvel today.

This trailer is the first official look at the infamous Black Widow’s solo adventures. From the video we understand that the timeline of the film is set after the ending of Captain America: Civil War where we see the Black Widow confront her past.

We hear the Black Widow talk in a voice-over where she says “I used to have nothing, and then I got this job, this family. But nothing lasts forever.”

The trailer shows flashes of Natasha’s early training days, in the red room and in the KGB program. We see her struggling to put her past as an Assassin while working with the Avengers, but some unknown factor forces her to dive deep into her old world, reuniting us with unforgettable characters like Yelena.

We then hear Natasha’s voice talk of unfinished business and the necessity to go back to where it all started. This unfinished business involves Natasha teaming up with Malena and Alexei or the Red Guardian. Armed with unlikely allies, Natasha will need all the help she can get to defeat the film’s supervillain, the Taskmaster. The identity of the taskmaster, however, is not revealed yet, but comic fans will remember him as a formidable enemy, a mercenary who can instantly copy and absorb his opponent’s strengths and skills.

Along with releasing the trailer, Marvel also released a teaser poster on their twitter page of the Black Widow movie. The film was teased over this summer in San Diego’s Comic-Con, where attendees witnessed footage that showed a new side of the much loved Black Widow.

In a conversation with the press there, Johansson said, that Natasha is at a dark place where she’s got no one and nowhere to go and that she was grappling with her own self. She compared the character to a person who sees something huge exploding and stands still when all the pieces are landing, where the person does not actually know what to do next and that’s the moment that she’s in, one where you have to face yourself.

A New teaser from Xiaomi displays Redmi K30’s rear design

Xiaomi’s Redmi K30 has been in the news for quite a while now. We know that the smartphone is another affordable phone promising 5G connectivity. The device has been in the news because of its dual punch-hole front camera in the display and now Redmi is teasing customers with a picture of the rear panel. Xiaomi’s sub-branch has shown a Redmi K30 with a coin slot style camera panel at the back. On a closer look, we see four vertically aligned cameras housed inside a circle.

If the Redmi K30 is anything like the Redmi K20 series, we speculate that the quad-camera setup will be of normal, telephoto and ultra-wide cameras with a macro or depth-sensing camera. We believe that there will be a minimum of two phones in this series, so it’s completely possible that this kind of quad-camera setup is only for one model and the other device(s) will have a different setup.

The brand recently posted pictures of the front panel of a Redmi K30 phone. A different post talks about the K30 series’s 5G details as well. The Redmi K30 is all set to launch later in December 2019, however word of its launch outside China is still a question mark. It might come as a POCO device in India.

Talking about the possible specifications of this phone, the Redmi K30 will have 5G support and dual punch hole camera display. It is possible that the phone will use Mediatek’s dual-mode 5G supporting processor. Rumours also say that the Redmi K30 will come with Mediatek’s 5G commercial smart chip.

The probable specification of the Redmi K30 cameras is that they will be 64MP, 8MP, 5MP and 2MP. It is also possible that the Redmi K30 will have a new better screen refresh rate.

As per the company, the Redmi K30 will be unveiled in China on December 10. After which it will go to other parts of the world.

The company’s’ flagship Android tab comes with a price tag of Rs 59,900 for the LTE variant, with yes, few bank card schemes. As the price is classy so is the Tablet it comes with all the needed features as well as specifications one would want. The device comes in an all-metal body, but we will talk about its blueprint in detail further in the review. So, without any further delay let’s move on to a detailed review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6.

Design and Display

After unboxing the Tablet, we were really impressed with the design of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6. To make it more user-friendly the company has given it a sleek look and is much lighter and can be carried in a small bag without any trouble. The tablet has thin bezels and curved edges giving it a much fresh look, but we were expecting a bezel-less screen that Samsung offers in its flagship smartphones. That is not the case here.

The device comes in a sleek all metal and glass body. The front display features 10.5-inch WQXGA super AMOLED HDR10 screen that offers 2,560 x 1,600 pixels resolution. On the top, there is a front-facing camera with an 8-megapixel sensor for taking selfies. It also comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor and a face unlock feature, which gave us mixed reaction times. The display is brighter than the competition and it was a treat to view videos on it. We just loved watching movies and music videos on the device. The screen is also bright enough to be used outdoors under bright sunlight.

The back panel is made up of aluminium that does not attract many scratches and fingerprints. On the left top corner, there is a dual camera set up comprising of 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel camera sensors. Below you will that you get an S pen indent that can hold the S Pen to the tablet, magnetically. But the magnet is not super strong and has a movable grip, but does a fine job of keeping it in place. The Samsung logo has been as usual inscribed in the middle of the machine

On the upper and lower edge, you will get quad speakers tuned by AKG and we really loved the sound of the speakers. On the right side, a power key, a volume rocker and a microSD card slot have been put. The device comes with a stylus (S-pen) as well. It works as a remote control and can control the tab form a distance just like the S Pen on Galaxy Note 10 series. It also comes with Air Actions feature similar to Note 10 where you can prompt certain apps on the device like the camera. Personally, we loved writing notes in our own handwriting. The handwritten notes get automatically transcribed if your handwriting is readable, which in our instance was the case.

Performance and camera

Now, this is the most important part of the review and we loved every bit of it. Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 is powered by Qualcomm’s top of the line Snapdragon 855 chipset. The unit which we got for the review had the 6GB of RAM with 128GB of internal storage. The storage if needed can be expanded up to 1TB using a microSD card.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6

The device is a multitasker and with several app and internet browsers open on it, it never hanged or slowed down the performance of the Tab. The tablet runs on Android 9 Pie with Samsung One UI. You get the stock Android feel and is bloatware-free.

Below are a few benchmark results of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 which we ran:

Geekbench 5: 725 single-core score and 2,543 multi-core score

AnTuTu 3D Bench: 4,49,441

The scores were quite satisfactory as per the machinery inside. All the benchmark results indicate good performance. We did not come across any sort of heating or lag either while playing games or during long sessions of watching movies.

The DEX Mode comes to your rescue when you are in a no mood to carry your heavy laptop while traveling or while you are with friends enjoying a day out. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 can be attached to a Book Cover Keyboard and the Tab turns into a desktop-like mode. When the DEX mode is triggered you will see a system tray at the bottom right where you can access notifications and navigation buttons. The app drawer is on the bottom left.

Coming on to the camera capabilities, Samsung Galaxy Tablet S6 features a dual camera set up comprising of a 13-megapixel primary camera and a 5-megapixel wide-angle lens that offers a 123-degree field of view. The camera did a fine job. The pictures taken were vibrant as well as sharp and detailed but that is only during the daylight. At night or low light conditions, the quality was a little unsatisfactory.

There is also an 8-megapixel selfie camera on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6, which clicks fine pictures but the quality of the pictures drops off during the low light situations as well.

The flagship tablet comes with an all-day battery life as it houses a 7,040mAh battery supported by a 15W fast charger that comes inside the box. To charge completely it takes around more than two hours offering an all-day battery life. We used it to browse the internet, Facebook, check feeds on Instagram listening to music and watching lots of videos and by the end of the day, it was able to survive with 30 to 35 percent battery.

Verdict

The overall performance of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 was decent. You get a vibrant and crisp display. The Tablet is slim as well as lightweight. We loved the AKG powered quad speakers that made the overall experience of watching videos or movies much better. We just skipped using the earphones as the stereo speaker’s performance was excellent. You do not need to carry your laptop everywhere when Samsung DEX is here. We were turned off by the erratic performance of the fingerprint sensor and face unlock instead we used the pattern lock for unlocking the device quickly. And lastly, we enjoyed working with the S Pen.  Price is also on the steeper side and is comparable to a laptop, but that laptop will not give you the same type of portability which this tablet will.

Pros

Vibrant display

Good battery life

Lightweight

Cons

Cannot fully replace a laptop

Pricing is slightly high

Here is a clever hack to help you upgrade to Windows 10 for free

0

Microsoft is planning to end support for Windows 7 come January of 2020. The option to upgrade to Windows 10 for free officially is no longer available. As Microsoft is passive-aggressively trying to get more users to connect on to Windows 10, smart users have found out a way to upgrade their PCs and laptops for free of cost.

Here is how you can do it:

Users with a genuinely activated Windows 8, 8.1 or 7 need to download and run the Media creation tool, they will then have to enter their passkey given during purchase of their version of Windows they have or bought previously. This upgrades the system to run on windows 10 at no cost at all.

A Reddit user, who claims to be working at Microsoft since before the launch of Windows 10 says that the limited period free upgrade was a marketing strategy to get more and more users to upgrade as soon as possible. This limited period offer did not need a product activation key.

After the free upgrade period got over, users were required to get premium exclusive product activation keys.

The Reddit user also said that “WDG didn’t care pretty much at all because Terry Meyerson at the time cared more about his upgrade stats than license revenue as Windows isn’t Microsoft’s cash cow anymore. It’s the same stance back in the day where Microsoft would allow Windows Updates on pirated copies of Windows 7 as the bigger picture was to thwart security threats based from those copies,”

However, the user warned IT admins in corporations to not exploit this for large-scale free upgrades, which could land them in trouble. He warned users to be careful and choose to upgrade the current system keeping all data intact to convert the old Windows 7 license into a windows 10 digital license. If a user chooses to delete everything and start afresh, they lose the chance for a free upgrade.

Windows 10 was introduced almost 5 years ago and is till date the best operating system released by Microsoft. The company has stuck to increasing the branding and the number of Windows 10 users has only increased year after year. Microsoft even introduced a limited period free upgrade program for devices running older versions of Windows to promote them to the latest version. As of March 2019, Windows 10 was running on 800 million computers worldwide. This is leaps and bounds ahead of Apple OS or Linux.

Samsung’s flagship, The Samsung Galaxy Fold, which has been in the news recently, will only receive the update in April 2020, which is when mid-range and cheaper devices will also be receiving access to Android 10. Samsung probably does not want to take chances with the Galaxy Fold and wants to make sure everything works on it with the new update. The good news is that Samsung is not restricting the chance to update to Android 10 only to its premium smartphones, but instead is opening it to many more of its lineups.

Vivo V17 to launch on December 9, invite poster launched

Looks like Vivo is on a launching spree this year. The company is all set to launch a new smartphone in India. For this the company has also started sending media invites also. On December 9 the company will introduce Vivo V17 in the country. This new smartphone has already been unveiled in the Russian market a few days ago. Whereas the company rebranded the phone to Vivo S1 Pro and launched it in the Philippines as a global variant.

The company media invite-only reveals that the phone will be launched on December 9 in the country however it does not reveal the name of the upcoming smartphone.
