Samsung Galaxy Fold launch still delayed, company confirms

South Korean technology giant Samsung has already postponed the relaunch of its Galaxy Fold smartphone because of the issues that the device has. However, a report has now surfaced online that claims that the company may take longer than we previously estimated. We should mention that earlier this week, it was reported that the new launch date of Samsung Galaxy Fold will fall within the next few weeks. But the company has today denied with by formally issuing a statement.

According to the Korean Herald, when a Samsung spokesperson was asked whether the Galaxy Fold will launch before the end of July, he said, “Nothing has progressed since the April delay.” This clearly means that no such media event has been planned by the company yet.

For those unaware, technology website CNET had earlier reported that Samsung has not given up on Galaxy Fold smartphone yet and the company will be making an announcement “in the coming weeks.”

Samsung Galaxy Fold smartphone was first shown off at the company’s developer conference this year and at that time, most people expected it to lead in the race of foldable phones. The handset was initially supposed to launch in select countries on April 26 and its price was announced as $1,890, approximately Rs 1,31,200. The company gave out some units of the smartphone to reviewers prior to the launch and most of them said that the screen failed. In one case, the display completely cracked.

After this happened, Samsung decided to postpone the launch of the smartphone indefinitely. In addition to this, the company also cancelled some pre-orders. The technology giant will obviously have to ensure that the folding screen of its handset is working perfectly before it relaunches its device.

To recall, Samsung Galaxy Fold features a 4.6-inch (860x1960p) external display and unfolds to reveal a 7.3-inch Flex Dynamic AMOLED panel. The smartphone comes with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. At the time of launch, there was no word on which processor was used in the device.

Samsung is not the only company that has showcased its foldable smartphone. Chinese technology giant Huawei has also unveiled its Mate X handset that can be folded. After issues started arising in Galaxy Fold, the launch of Huawei Mate X also got postponed from June to September as it needs to run some additional tests on the screen. The company says that it does not want to deliver a flawed device only to be quick about it.

Huawei Nova 5 series video reveals bright colour variants, Huawei Nova 5 Pro gets listed for pre-orders

0

Huawei Nova 5 Series has been in the news for a while now. The Chinese smartphone brand is expected to launch the series in its home country on June 21. To promote its upper midrange series, Huawei has released its Nova 5 Series teaser video on Weibo which clearly revealed that the smartphones will be available in a number of bright colour options.

In another news, Huawei’s Nova 5 Pro smartphone has been listed on JingDong Mall. However, there isn’t much information about the smartphone that has been made available. All we know from the listing is that the handset will be available in Dilemma Forest, Midsummer Purple, Bright Black, and Coral Orange colour options. The listing also says that the smartphone will be available in 8GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB storage options.

While the promotional teaser of Huawei Nova 5 series doesn’t reveal any specifications, the Chinese certification agency TENAA has given the green signal to Huawei’s Nova 5i. We should mention that the TENAA listing revealed that the Huawei Nova 5i would sport a 6.4-inch full-HD+ IPS display. It is said to be powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 710 SoC and will come with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage. Huawei Nova 5i will run on Android 9.0 Pie skinned with EMUI 9.0 out of the box. In terms of camera, the smartphone would sport quad-rear cameras at the back and is said to come with a 24MP camera for shooting selfie and video chats. For biometric security, the device could pack a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and it is said to house a 3,900mAh battery.

Moving on to the specifications of Huawei Nova 5, it is said that it will sport a 6.39-inch AMOLED display and most likely it will be powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC. Speculations are being made that it will have an in-display sensor for biometrics and also rock a 3.5mm audio jack. A 4,200mAh battery with 40W for fast charging will fuel the smartphone. Huawei Nova 5 is rumored to feature a 48MP Sony IMX586 primary lens, a 12.3-megapixel secondary sensor, and another Sony IMX316 ToF sensor. On the front, the Nova 5 is going to feature a 25-megapixel Sony IMX576 snapper for selfies and video chats.

While Huawei is entangled in a legal battle with the US government, it has not stopped the company from launching so many smartphones. Very recently the Chinese smartphone maker launched five smartphones and tablets in India including the Honor 20 Pro, Honor 20, Honor 20i, Honor Pad 5 (8-inch) and Honor Pad 5 (10.1-inch). But then, it is worth mentioning that these devices may not receive any Android updates after two months.

Huawei Mate X receives China’s 3C certification, could launch in July

2

Foldable smartphones are among the new innovations that the technology industry has seen. Most of them work like a tablet which can be folded into a handset. Samsung Galaxy Fold – the foldable by the South Korean technology giant – was found to have a major flaw and had to be recalled right before its official market launch. But apart from the Galaxy Fold, we have also seen the Huawei’s Mate X, that was unveiled earlier this year at MWC 2019.

The Huawei’s Mate X is the first foldable smartphone from the Chinese electronics maker but similar to the Galaxy Fold, the device hasn’t been launched for the markets right now. Before the official launch of the Huawei’s Mate X, the handset has received China’s 3C certification which hints at its 5G capabilities. Since it has received the certification, the launch of the device is imminent. According to the listing, the Huawei’s Mate X holds a model number TAH-AN00 and there is a chance that it will come with a new power adapter with a maximum output of 65W (model HW-200200CP1).

The new power adapter of the Huawei’s Mate X points towards the possibility that it will be rated higher than the device’s 55W Super Charge capacity charger. Earlier this month, He Gang, the head of Huawei’s smartphone division shared the 5G test results of the Mate X. In the speed test, Huawei’s Mate X achieved a download speed of 1Gbps and upload speed of 100 Mbps. The 5G speed test of the Huawei’s Mate X foldable smartphone was done through China’s Unicom’s network at Shanghai Research Institute office. In addition to this, Huawei’s 5G roadmap revealed that the Huawei’s Mate X could be launched sometime around July 2019, which is just weeks away.

Talking about the specifications of the Huawei’s Mate X, we see that it sports a 6.6-inch AMOLED display on the front, while there is a 6.38-inch screen on the back. When unfolded, the device sports an 8-inch tablet-sized screen. The Mate X is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC paired with Mali-G76MP10 GPU and holds 8GB of RAM paired with 512GB of internal storage. Since it was announced prior to the US trade ban, the Huawei’s Mate X runs Android 9.0 Pie skinned with EMUI 9.1.1. The foldable smartphone packs a 4,500mAh battery with Super Charge support.

On the imaging front, the Mate X features a triple-rear camera setup which comprises of a 40MP main camera sensor paired with a 16MP sensor paired with an 8MP sensor. Apart from 5G connectivity, the Huawei’s Mate X has a Balong 5000 5G chipset which is capable of supporting 2G, 3G, and 4G.

Paytm adds an AI-based payment gateway to its platform

0

Paytm is soon going to get a real-time AI-based decision making payment gateway on its platform. This will help merchants to achieve a higher payment success rate than they do now. This new system is powered by Big Data, which has made Paytm capable of offering the analysis of sales, transactions along with success rate views to the merchants. With the addition of the new feature, Paytm is hoping for a double increase in its growth in the PG transactions by the end of 2019.

Earlier there were times when the payment made by Paytm failed with no apparent reason. The AI-based gateway that has been added is intended to make it easier and safe to use the platform so each transaction is completed. The new AI-based payment engine is able to “analyse the data in real time to route transactions dynamically to the best performing aggregator for improved success rates.”

Speaking about the new development, Puneet Jain, Vice President – Paytm Payment Gateway said, “Our partnered merchants spend massively on customer acquisition and retention. The last thing they want is losing a customer due to payment failure. We are excited to introduce an AI-based routing engine that addresses this problem by optimizing the payment workflows and routing the transaction to best-performing payment aggregator in real time. Further, this will help online merchants reduce development effort to enable various PG providers and achieve faster time to market.”

Other than the launch of the AI-powered payment gateway, Paytm has also added smart processing of bank’s OTP along with optimizing the bank pages so adding/sending money is less of a hassle. It now is able to calculate the success rate for every card bin and every bank. That way it is able to route the payment traffic to the “best performing aggregator offering different payment modes in absolute real time.”

As mentioned above, the new payment engine used by Paytm uses Big Data analytics so that it could provide the merchants with a comprehensive analysis of their sales, transactions and success rates.

These reports will be shown to the merchant on a dashboard. With the new changes and the new payment engine added to Paytm, it hopes for double growth in transactions which are processed on the platform by the end of the fiscal year 2019.

It should be noted that Paytm is currently the biggest online payment platform in India with 50% shares. According to Paytm, it processes more than 400 million transactions every month.

This is when Redmi Note 7 Pro will get the Android Q update

0

The latest version of the Android Q beta was released just recently. While all Android Q updates will be available for all Pixel phones, other manufacturers like Sony, OnePlus, Nokia, LG, Asus, Vivo, and Xiaomi have also announced which of their smartphones would be getting the update.

As we all know Xiaomi is one of the smartphone makers which mostly opts for its own skin – MIUI – to be used on top of Android. Xiaomi has promised that it will come up with a system-wide dark theme, new icons, animations and many other features like battery optimizations for its handsets. Xiaomi has started speaking about the availability of Android Q on smartphones such as the Mi MIX 3, Mi 9, Redmi K20 series, among others.

Earlier in May, Xiaomi made the declaration in China through the MIUI Forums, specifying the schedule for the availability of the stable version of Android Q. According to the post, these smartphones from Xiaomi and Redmi are eligible for the update:

In Q4 2019: Xiaomi Mi 9, Redmi K20 Pro, Xiaomi Mi8, Xiaomi Mi8 screen fingerprint edition, Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition, Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, Redmi K20, Xiaomi Mi 9 SE

In Q1 2020: Redmi Note 7

But now, the company has updates updated this list and added Redmi Note 7 Pro to it. Along with Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro, it will also receive Android Q update in the first quarter of 2020.

Both Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro will be receiving the update in Q1 2020. However, considering that these devices were launched this year and were marketed a lot by Xiaomi, it is kind of disappointing to see that they will be getting the update so late.

The Chinese smartphone brand left no stone unturned in making sure that the devices create headlines, and this is especially true for Redmi Note 7 Pro.

Most of the smartphones that fall under the Android One program and handsets from rival brands will be getting the Android Q update this year.

Xiaomi has packed the Redmi Note 7 Pro with a number of powerful specifications like a 48MP primary camera and a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. However, till the time the company starts sending out timely updates and cleaning up its UI, Xiaomi will not gain the kind of acceptance that it wants outside the budget segment.

If the shows of your choice are available on Netflix, but on a version that is meant for another country, then you can easily get with the help of some ad blockers. Some of the good unblockers that you can use include Smartflix and Media Hint.

Flix Roulette is a tool that lets you choose directors, actors or keywords and filters out your searches accordingly. It will make it easier for you to find shows of your choice on Netflix.

Say goodbye to buffering

Redmi is testing a new smartphone with Samsung’s 64MP sensor

0

A few days back, a report surfaced online that claimed that Samsung is testing its new 64MP camera. This is the highest resolution sensor which has been made for smartphones till now. However, it is still being tested, so currently, there are no devices in the market with a 64MP rear camera yet. The report also said that Samsung Galaxy A70s could be the first smartphone to come with the sensor. Now, it is being speculated that Redmi might also be working on a new device that will come with Samsung’s new 64MP ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor.

The report comes from a tipster named Ice Universe who posted on the Chinese networking platform Weibo about this new development. It should be noted that the 64MP resolution camera was introduced by Samsung earlier in May and it is the successor to the company’s 48MP ISOCELL GM1 sensor.

There is also a possibility that the Redmi smartphone that will come with a 64MP rear sensor could be unveiled first in China itself. But right now, there is no news about the name, details or the specifications of this upcoming device. All we know about is its main camera sensor.

Talking about the new 64MP camera sensor, it has Samsung’s ISOCELL Plus and Tetracell technologies. Both of these are capable of producing brighter low-light images as they combine four pixels of 16MP resolution into one whole image. The new sensor also supports real-time HDR of up to 100-decibel along with a dual conversion gain which reportedly produces rich hues and colour accuracy with little noise.

Other than that, some other features of the new Samsung’s 64MP sensor are phase detection auto-focus technology along with Full-HD recording at 480 frames-per-second (FPS) for smooth slow-motion videos.

This year, we saw that Xiaomi incorporated the 48MP sensor in Redmi Note 7 Pro, which is a device in the budget segment of the Indian smartphone market. So once, the 64MP sensor is released, we would like to see in which smartphone it deploys the camera in and how much will the handset be priced.

Google updated its popular app Gboard.

0

Google has started rolling out Gboard version 8.3.6, which brings a number of new features for the popular keyboard app.

With the new update, Gboard will now support more than 200 languages through the handwriting input method. The update is available for download on the Google Play Store in India.

While you should definitely try this new feature if you love writing over typing, you should first check if your preferred language is supported or not.

Other new things which have been included in this update include the ability to share language keyboard preferences with other Gboard users.

WHAT’S NEW

  • Adds recognition support for Corsican, Hawaiian, Kazakh, Luxembourgish, Samoan, Scottish Gaelic, Shona, Tajik, Uzbek, and Western Frisian.
  • Precision enhancements for several languages.
  • Adds support for additional Emoji.
  • Android N compatibility.
  • Various bug fixes.

This popular app apparently keeps on improving and gets more useful after each update that Google rolls out.

The Internet search giant Gboard has brought handwriting input support for more than 200 languages. If you are really will to try this handwriting input method all you have to do is open Gboard’s settings and select Languages to select your preferred language for handwriting input. Once you do this, add a keyboard next and select your preferred language. The handwriting input method will display on the screen for you to select only if your preferred language is supported. In the Google handwriting input, all listings show that it doesn’t support Amharic, Kölsch, and Maguindanao,

Not only this, Gboard users will now be able to share their language settings with other Gboard users so that the other person is effortlessly able to set up their app. Even though this feature is mentioned in the changelog, the app is available to download for iOS via the App Store, but right now it is only available for the beta version. The app also supports Android N so you can also install it on your Nexus devices.

Recently Google also added a feature for Deleting Searches and a revamped overflow menu with the update for its iOS app. In addition to this, the technology giant has also rolled out a beta version of Gboard for Android. Gboard also made some minor changes in the Beta Version 8.1 such as changed overflow screen and support for deleting the Gboard searches. The new Gboard overflow screen layout allows more icons and offers a better screen real estate than the earlier layout. The other feature is like deletion of Gboard searches which allows the users to long press on the search bar to enable the option of deleting searches.

Huawei to roll out its Hongmeng OS replacing the Android OS on its smartphones

2

Google and all the major US technology companies have halted their business with Huawei after the Trump administration announced a trade ban on the company. Some of the big companies in this list include Intel, ARM, Google, and Microsoft. A major cause of concern for Huawei amid all of this is that it cannot use Google products in its smartphones anymore. So basically, the company’s handsets will come without services like Google Play Services, YouTube, Gmail, Drive and they would not even receive Android updates.

The company has said that it has started working on its very own operating system (OS) which it will be putting in its smartphones. Huawei has now come up with a new operating system called the Hongmeng OS which is touted to be 60% faster than the Google’s Android OS. Upcoming smartphones from the brand are reported to come with Hongmeng OS itself.

Andrew Williamson, vice president of Huawei Technologies public affairs and communications, said in an interview that the company will be trademarking its new Hongmeng OS. He also said that until now, the new OS has been rolled out to more than 1 million Huawei devices in China.

He said, “Huawei is in the process of potentially launching a replacement. It’s not something Huawei wants. We’re very happy of being part of the Android family, but Hongmeng is being tested, mostly in China. I believe it is already being rolled out over a million devices. Presumably we’ll be trying to put trademarks.”

He also noted that he expected the revenue growth of Huawei would fall to around 20% compared to last year’s expansion of 19.5%. Earlier this year, we saw that Huawei was touted to be the biggest electronics company in China as per the result of a survey. It has taken lead on other Chinese electronics and smartphone makers and Apple as well. But he also mentioned that, if the trade tensions between Huawei and the US becomes a trade-war then the Hongmeng OS will be ready and running in the coming months.

According to the Data from the UN World Intellectual Property Organization, Huawei has already applied for a trademark for its Hongmeng OS in a number of countries. Williamson also said that the chipmakers and other tech companies breaking ties with Huawei could have a “catastrophic” consequences for their business as the company is one of their biggest customers.

He said, “We’re not specifically asking anyone to lobby for us. They’re doing it by their own desire because, for many of them, Huawei is one of their major customers.”

The trade ban was put on the company as US President Donald Trump has accused the Chinese technology firm of spying on the country’s communications. According to the US, the use of Huawei products and service could pose a security threat for the country. Currently, the company is on three months’ grace period after which all trade will be banned to do business with all US tech giants.

Instagram, PlayStation are now back after suffering outages

0

Photo-sharing platform Instagram suffered an outage on Thursday that made a number of its users take to Twitter to vent out their frustration. According to DownDetector.com, scores of users across the globe reported about Instagram not being available. In fact, teh number of reports about the Instagram outage hit 54,000 before they started dropping. In an unrelated piece of news, some users who were trying to access PlayStation Network also encountered some issues. Now, both Instagram and PSN services are back to normal.

Speaking about the matter, an Instagram spokesperson said, “Earlier today, a technical issue caused some people to have trouble accessing their Instagram accounts. We are now fully recovered and apologize for the inconvenience.” However, the company did not speak about the cause or the extent of the Instagram outage.

A number of users on Twitter talked about the problems that they faced on the photo-sharing app using the hashtag ‘#Instagram’. Most of them said that they had trouble accessing Instagram via mobile apps or even computers. Some complained that they couldn’t refresh the feed and some said that they couldn’t access DMs.

Some PlayStation users also took to the microblogging website to talk about the issues they faced. The official Ask PlayStation Twitter account addressed their concern by posting a message that read, “We’re aware that some users are experiencing issues logging into PSN. Thank you for your patience as we investigate.”

According to DownDetector.com, the outages were primarily present in Northern Europe and Britain. Some parts of the United States and Brazil also reported the same issues.

Earlier this month, a number of web services including YouTube, Snapchat, Gmail, Nest and Discord suffered major outages. Users from various parts of the world claimed that they could not access any of these services for a few hours at a stretch.

The root cause of this particular outage was said to be an issue with Google‘s cloud service that powers apps other than the technology giant’s own services.

This year itself, another major outage was faced by social media giant Facebook and its various services including Instagram, WhatsApp and even Oculus. All the apps and websites of the company were down for several hours across the globe before the social media giant managed to restore them.

As a part of another outage this year, YouTube was down for more than an hour and a half before the company restored the service.

This feature permits users to have a rotating set of images on their lock screen, which changes every time they unlock their phone which means that they would start displaying up as wallpapers, much like any other image. This is not the first time when an advertisement started streaming on the phone.

The report about these ads on Huawei smartphones’ locked screens first appeared on Android Police.

The report also said that when a user complained this to the company, Huawei responded and apologized on its German twitter account saying, “I’m sorry that you think we want to advertise. You can deactivate the magazine at any time. Just wipe it from bottom to top and click on the gearwheel symbol.”

So, if your Huawei smartphone is facing a similar problem too, now you know what you need to do to stop it.

In an unrelated piece of news, Huawei’s sub-brand Honor recently launched five smartphones and a tablet in India including Honor 20 Pro, Honor 20, Honor 20i, Honor Pad 5 (8-inch) and Honor Pad 5 (10.1-inch). The company has also announced that it is soon going to launch its Huawei Nova 5 and Nova 5i smartphones.

Huawei Nova 5 is the successor of the Nova 4 handset and will come up with upgraded internals.

Huawei Nova 5i smartphone will sport a 6.4-inch full HD+ display. It is expected to be powered by the company’s own Kirin 710 SoC and it will come with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM. The smartphone is expected to come with 128GB of onboard storage. Huawei 5i is said to sport a quad rear camera setup which comprises of a 24MP primary sensor, an 8MP secondary sensor, a 2MP depth sensor, and a ToF camera. It will also house a fingerprint scanner on its back panel and come with an LED flash. The Huawei Nova 5i will reportedly house a 3,900mAh battery and run Android 9.0 Pie skinned with EMUI 9.

Huawei will be launching its smartphone Nova 5 and Nova 5i in China on June 21.

We should mention that it is a little surprising that Huawei is launching so many smartphones in spite of its growing tensions with the United States government, as two months from now, these devices would not get any Android updates.

How to clean-up your Gmail?

Gmail is one of the most popular services of Google and most of us depend on it for sending and receiving emails. If you have been using the service for a long time, then you would know that it is extremely important to delete some of your emails time and again. The main reason behind doing this is to make use of the space of your Google account in the best possible way. Here, we are listing down the ways in which you can delete unwanted emails from your Gmail account and make it less cluttered. Take a look:

  1. Open your Gmail account and then go to your Inbox.
  2. If you only have to delete a single email, open the mail and then click on the Bin shaped icon on the top. Most people know this, but we have mentioned for those who are unaware, anyway.
  3. If you want to delete more than one emails at a time, click on the square box besides the email to select them. You can mark a number of emails that you want to delete. After that, click on the Bin icon on the top of the Gmail window to send it to trash.
  4. Keep in mind that the email deleted from Inbox goes to Trash of Gmail and it is not completely deleted from the platform. To ensure that they stop taking up space from your Google account completely, you would have to empty your trash.
  5. On the left side of your Gmail account, scroll down to see the ‘Trash’ category and click on it.
  6. Here, you will see the Empty Trash Now icon on the top of the page. Click on to delete all emails from Trash. Keep in mind that deleting emails from Trash will delete the email permanently. But even if you don’t delete the emails from Trash then they will automatically get deleted after 30 days.
  7. To clean-up Gmail further, you can also head to the Spam folder which stores all the emails which you mark as spam. To empty the Spam folder, you need to go to the Spam folder present on the right side of the page.
  8. Once there, you can click on Delete all spam messages now which is present on the top of the Spam folder.

Valve announces Underlords, a standalone Auto Chess game

0

US game developer Valve, that has created popular titles like Counter-Strike and Half-Life, has today announced Underlords. The new game is Valve’s version of the popular Auto Chess mod of the Dota 2. Underlords will be a standalone title and it will be coming to the Mac, Linux, iOS, Android and Windows operating systems.

Valve has said that currently, it is running a “friends and family” beta version of the game, that has been going around for the past few weeks. But now, the company will be expanding the testing of Underlords to all the Dota 2 Battle Pass owners.

Other than that, a free beta version of Underlords will be launching a week after the preview of the stress testing. The game is the second separate title of the Dota 2 portfolio with 2018’s Artifact being the first. When launched, Artifact received average reviews after which it was dropped sharply on Twitch.

But unlike the previous separate breakout title, the Auto Chess already has a good number of followers and it is also a popular game. Since it is based on Auto Chess, Underlords should not have a problem gaining traction too. The creators of the title at Valve said that they have “spent much of the last six months” playing Underlords. Earlier, Valve had announced that it was working on its own Auto Chess clone after its dis-settlement with Drodo.

According to Valve, “We had great conversations, but we both came to the conclusion that Valve and Drodo could not work directly with each other for a variety of reasons.” About not working with Valve, Drodo said that it was a great company and it appreciated it supporting its efforts to develop Auto Chess.

When launched, the game will allow up to seven players to battle against each other, much like death-matches. However, Underlords will have a turn-based tactical strategy similar to Chess. When Underlords was announced, Valve had said that unlike Dota 2 “victory is determined not by twitch reflexes, but by superior tactics.” This could mean that strategy will play a bigger role in Underlords. We should also mention that since the game is a standalone version of Auto Chess, it is also exclusively available on Epic Games.

OnePlus 6T, OnePlus 6, OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5 get Fnatic Mode and Digital Wellbeing with a new update: Report

Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus has started the rollout of its OxygenOS Beta update for four of its older smartphones. The handsets that are now getting the new update include OnePlus 6T, OnePlus 6, OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5. The company has not yet posted about the update on its official OnePlus forum, but then, reports have surfaced online that claim that some users have started receiving the latest OxygenOS Open Beta update for OnePlus 6T, OnePlus 6, OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5.

We should mention that the two key features that are arriving with the latest update to these smartphones are Digital Wellbeing and Fnatic Mode. Both of these result in providing more efficient resource optimisation and smoother gaming experience. The rollout of the new OxygenOS Open Beta updates for all the four OnePlus smartphones was first reported by XDA Developers.

It is also worth adding that there is no difference in the changelogs of the OxygenOS Open Beta 32 update for OnePlus 5T, OxygenOS Open Beta 34 update for OnePlus 5, Oxygen OS Open Beta 20 update for OnePlus 6 and Oxygen OS Open Beta 12 update for OnePlus 6T. The latest updates for the four OnePlus smartphones also get the June 2019 Android security patch. Till now, the only other handsets that have received this security patch are Pixel devices and the Essential Phone.

Another key feature that has been added to these OnePlus smartphones is Digital Wellbeing. Using Digital Wellbeing, users can keep a check on their smartphone usage and impose certain restrictions on themselves if they think that they are developing an addiction.

Coming to the Fnatic Mode, we should mention that it was first made available to the OnePlus 7 Pro, but now, the company has rolled it out to its other smartphones. The mode ensures that system resources and restricts background operations so that games can take up power instead. This leads to users getting a better gaming experience as all other distractions are kept away from the device.

In an unrelated piece of news, we should mention that OnePlus 7 Pro Almond coloured variant is going on sale in India today. The smartphone is only available in 8GB RAM/256GB storage option and can be bought via Amazon India, OnePlus’ official website, the company’s offline store, Reliance Digital and Croma. Vivo Z1 Pro confirmed to sport a triple-rear camera and an in-display camera setup

0

Chinese smartphone maker Vivo had earlier teased about its new Z-series handset coming to India. Now, it has also confirmed that the upcoming smartphone from Vivo will be called as the Vivo Z1 Pro. The company has also said that the upcoming smartphone will be exclusively available on the Indian e-commerce platform Flipkart. The e-commerce website has also made a landing page for the Vivo Z1 Pro on its platform that reveals the design and the looks of the upcoming device. According to the company, the Vivo Z1 Pro will be a smartphone aimed at Gen Z.

The product page of the Vivo Z1 Pro hints that the upcoming smartphone will come with an in-display front camera that will be placed in the top-left corner of the smartphone inside a hole under the screen itself. The front camera of the Vivo Z1 Pro won’t be visible from the front and it will give a full-screen experience. Other than that, the Vivo Z1 Pro will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 700-series CPU so it will be a mid-range smartphone.

The landing page of the Vivo Z1 Pro states that the device will have a 21 days of standby time and other than that there are no details mentioned about the launch of the smartphone.

Looking at the design of the Vivo Z1 Pro, it seems to be a renamed version of Vivo Z5x which the company launched earlier in China. Similar to the Vivo Z1 Pro, the Z5x too packs an in-display camera sensor along with a triple-rear camera at the back of the device. There will also be a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and the handset will have a gradient back panel. As there is no camera notch on the Vivo Z1 Pro, there will be almost no bezels on the top and the sides, but the bottom will sport a slim chin.

https://twitter.com/Vivo_India/status/1139153002810531840

Talking about the Vivo Z5x, we see that the smartphone sports a 6.53-inch Full HD+ display with a screen-to-body ratio of 90.77%.  It will pack 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and runs Android 9 Pie skinned with FuntouchOS. The Vivo Z5x will house a large 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support. It also sports a triple rear camera at the back with 16MP as its main camera paired with an 8MP sensor and a 2MP sensor.

Apple’s MacBook’s seven new models spotted on Eurasian Economic Commission database

0

Apple’s WWDC is over and its hardware event where it will launch the iPhones is months away. According to a new report, Apple has filed several new Mac models with the Eurasian Economic Commission database. Based on the database multiple variants of the Mac will be launched in the future. In the past, we have seen that Apple usually announces its products a few months after filing them. This time as well, we could see the announcement of these newer versions of MacBook in the coming months, now that they have been filed.

According to MacRumors, seven models of the new MacBook have been listed on the EEC database – A2141, A2147, A2158, A2159, A2179, A2182, and A2251. These might be the newer models of Apple’s portable laptops, that the Cupertino based technology giant seems to be working on after refreshing its MacBook Pro line-up earlier this month.

Considering the fact that there are 7 new models lined up in the ECC database, we could see them as the refreshed versions of the 12-inch MacBook as well as the MacBook Air. There is also a chance that the company might refresh its 13-inch MacBook Pro without the touch bar.

Other than that, there is news that Apple is also working on a new 16-inch MacBook Pro model and it won’t be like the other MacBook in terms of design. It is also being speculated that the company will be launching this new model in the later months of 2019. However, this may be unlikely because Apple has recently launched a refreshed version of the MacBook Pro. The company may also announce the redesigned version of the MacBook at the launch event of Apple iPhone 11.

Lastly, if the ECC database listing is true, and if Apple is truly adding 7 new versions of its MacBook then we could see their launch sometimes in the later months of 2019. It would be interesting to see how all the seven models of MacBook differ from each other and what specifications they pack.

Google claims that Chrome is making ad blockers safer

3

Recently, Google Chrome was in news for restricting ad blockers. Last year, the company said that the Manifest V 3 standard has been designed to replace the Web Request API with Declarative Net Request API. This move was said to limit the ad blocking capabilities of the browser extensions. However, the company has now written a detailed blog that says that it does not intend to kill ad blockers, but instead, just to make them safer and provide users with a faster web browsing experience.

The company has stated that the Web Request API need the Chrome browser to send all the data in network request to the extension, including sensitive data such as photos and emails. This has led to malware activities on the Web. Since January last year, 42 percent of malicious extensions have used the Web Request API.

In a formal public statement in October 2018, the company revealed the arrival of its Manifest V3 that appeared in January to set the pitch for the Declarative Net Request API. The company faced a lot of criticism for putting a limit on ad blockers through its new API. Last month, it again announced that it will continue to support full ad blocking features for enterprise users. Google announced major changes to the Chrome extensions ecosystem.

Lately Google’s Simeon Vincent also responded to its critics that the new API doesn’t enable extensions to access any sensitive data from Chrome. The latest execution provides extensions the ability to perform content blocking without requiring access to all the user information from a webpage.

Google also revealed instead of killing ad blockers on Chrome, the adoption of the new extension API will make them safer for users. The company also asserts that earlier used Web Request API enables extensions to have access to read and manipulate “everything a user does” on the browser, but through the Declarative Net Request API limits the access of user information.

Developer Advocate for Chrome Extensions Simeon Vincent further said that Chrome does not need to expose any sensitive data to the extension. He also wrote that “The browser can perform the action requested by the extension without sending it all the data associated with the network request, because the extension already specified the conditions under which different actions are taken.”

Since January, Google has been collaborating with outside developers and incorporating their feedback. However, the technology giant has not confirmed yet that when the new rules will take effect.

Google also insisted that the changes are being made just to protect the privacy of its users.

Earlier the Web Request API allowed developers to stop a page from loading in the mean time as per their wish blocked and modified the page’s content ads or other content

Declarative Net Request API is a new technology which would work exactly opposite to the older API. The extension sets up “rules” that the browser reads and applies to each web page before it loads Instead of an extension stopping web requests and searching all the pages’ content, ads and other contents.

The extensions will never receive page data, and the browser will make all the modifications to the page.

This will ensure the entire user’s data such as emails, photos; passwords, etc. will remain at the safe, and are never passed to the extensions.

These may be the release dates of Google Pixel 4 and iPhone 11

Yesterday, Google surprised all of us by posting a picture of the upcoming Pixel 4 smartphone months ahead of its launch and partially revealing its design to the world. By doing this, Google confirmed a number of leaks that had been circulating online. Now, just a day later, the release date of the Google Pixel 4 and Apple iPhone 11 smartphones seems to have emerged.

Renowned tipster Evan Blass has shared a screenshot of a leaked Verizon marketing calendar that has the release dates of various ‘tier 1’ smartphones. The calendar shows the May launch of Google Pixel 3a and also has Samsung Galaxy Note 10 pencilled in for August. In addition to this, it shows that Apple’s iPhone 11 will debut in September, while the Pixel 4 smartphone will be unveiled in October, like every year. While none of these timelines is away from the usual months when these technology companies launch their flagship smartphones, it is always good to have a confirmation that our expectations were right.

But then, if the launch of Google Pixel 4 is indeed months away, the technology giant really did something completely out of the box by revealing the design of its upcoming flagship handset yesterday. Most technology companies try to keep most of the key information about their products under wraps before the launch. Maybe a big reason behind this is that leaks of smartphones have now started surfacing online months ahead of their launch, and this is becoming increasingly common. So, Google may have tried to adopt a different way to deal with it, and we have to say, it was a very good move.

Another thing worth noticing on the calendar is the fact that there is only one iPhone launch that has been listed. So, this can also point towards the fact that Apple would not be launching the iPhone XR successor weeks after it releases the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max successors. Maybe we can expect the Cupertino-based technology giant to make them all available at the same time.

Speaking more about Apple, we should point out that the leaks of the upcoming iPhone 11 also showcase a square camera bump on the smartphone. This means that the upcoming iPhone and the Google Pixel 4 would actually look very similar to each other.

Personally, we still haven’t warmed up to the idea of having a square bump on the rear panel of a smartphone to house the cameras, but we are sure that there will be those who’ll like it.

Epic Games acquires the video chat application Houseparty

0

Epic Games, the company behind Fortnite, has acquired group video chat application Houseparty. The app recently started gaining popularity in the video game world as it has launched new and integrated features for games on its platform like the Heads Up and screen sharing. After the acquisition, Epic Games will have full control of the Houseparty video chat app. However, the company would not be integrating the Houseparty app to any of its platforms for now, and the app will continue to function as it did before. According to the company, it will not share data between the user’s Houseparty account and their Epic Games account.

Tim Sweeney, the founder and CEO of Epic Games said, “Houseparty brings people together, creating positive social interactions in real time. By teaming up, we can build even more fun, shared experiences than what could be achieved alone.”

The Houseparty app was launched back in 2016 and it was made by the same team which had developed Meerkat. Meerkat was once a popular live-streaming app in 2015 but a similar application named Periscope gained dominance in the market after it was acquired by Twitter. Later, in 2016, Meerkat was shut down and was replaced by Houseparty.

Houseparty is popular with the younger generation (Gen Z) and millennials. With this app, any friend of a user can drop in on someone’s video chat but they must have the same Houseparty app in their smartphones. It removes the old method of dialling someone’s number or searching for the user and pressing the call button. Instead, Houseparty gives the freedom to the user to join their friend’s video chat using the app. The application allows up to 8 people to enter into a single video chat and talk simultaneously. The Houseparty app is available for Android, iOS, macOS and Google Chrome as well.

Sima Sistani, the co-founder and CEO of Houseparty said, “Joining Epic is a great step forward in achieving our mission of bringing empathy to online communication. We have a common vision to make human interaction easier and more enjoyable, and always with respect for user privacy.”

The popularity of Houseparty can be seen by the fact that Facebook, one of the world’s largest social networking platforms, tried to compete against it. Facebook used a clone app similar to Houseparty called Bonfire to compete with it, but it was shut down in May this year. According to Sensor Tower, the Houseparty app has been installed 35 million times since its launch. 40% of the numbers come from outside the US.

WhatsApp will now sue users who send bulk or automated messages

Do you send way too many messages on WhatsApp? We have some news for you that may not be too good. The Facebook-owned instant messaging app has said that it will be taking legal action against users who send too many messages. While the company could simply ban the users from its platform from going against its terms and conditions, it has decided to take legal action because it will be another step in its efforts of cracking down on fake news.

If we club the move by WhatsApp to take legal action with the findings of a recent Reuters Institute survey of English-language Indian internet users, it becomes way more crucial than it seems at first. Around 52% of the respondents of the survey got news via WhatsApp.

The same people also said that they got their news from Facebook. However, we should mention that in India, content shared on the instant messaging app has also led to violence and murder. It is also worth pointing out that the problem is so grave that BBC, in its April 2019 article, called WhatsApp the ‘black hole’ of fake news during India’s election.

To recall, last year, WhatsApp had introduced a ‘Forward’ tag for such messages. The company did this after it received flak when unverified forward messages were linked to fake news that led to the killing of over 20 people in mob violence.

The app, which has over 1.5 billion active users, has updated its FAQ section. So, according to the new guidelines, it will be able to take legal actions against any user for “bulk or automated messaging”. This will let WhatsApp control how users interact on their platform.

The update can be seen on WhatsApp’s page on “bulk or automated messaging”. The page now says that the app is “committed to reinforcing the private nature of our platform and keeping users safe from abuse.” The company has also said that it will leave no stone unturned when it comes to ensuring that its terms and conditions are being followed.

The page says, “Beginning on December 7 2019, WhatsApp will take legal action against those we determine are engaged in or assisting others in the abuse that violates our terms of service, such as automated or bulk messaging.” Along with this, the company has also issued a warning that it will start legal proceedings even if they are based on “information solely available to us off our platform.”
