Huawei says that the US is bullying it with the trade ban

Huawei has been facing a lot of problems lately because the US government has imposed a ban on all America-based companies on continuing business with the Chinese smartphone maker. Right after the US trade ban was imposed, Google stopped its business with Huawei, which means that the smartphone maker no longer has access to Android and other Google services that are vital for the proper functioning of any handset. The search giant was followed by Intel, Qualcomm, Broadcom and even ARM, which UK-based, but manufactures some of its chips in the United States. This really spells trouble for Huawei, as a majority of the chipmakers and the owner of Android has refused to continue their association with the company. While Huawei has said that it has tried to resolve its matters with Google, the California-based technology giant is sticking to its decision because maybe it is in its best interest to do so. Abraham Liu, Vice-President for the European Region at Huawei, has finally broken silence on what the company thinks about the US trade ban.  He said, “Huawei is becoming the victim of the bullying by the U.S. administration. This is not just an attack against Huawei. It is an attack on the liberal, rules-based order.” When Google announced its decision of halting business with Huawei, a spokesperson from the company said, “We are complying with the order and reviewing the implications. For users of our services, Google Play and the security protections from Google Play Protect will continue to function on existing Huawei devices.” The future devices from Huawei will not get the support of Android updates or popular Google services. The Chinese smartphone app will only be able to use the public version of Android. It will lose all access to proprietary apps and services from Google. The open source license of Android is known as the Android Open Source Project (ASOP) and it is available publicly.
However, we should mention that Huawei has been developing its own technology as a backup plan in case it was blocked from using the Android platform. It has also reportedly stockpiled enough components from US companies to last from three months to a year. May the company did foresee the ban by the US government. While stockpiling may help it in short-term goals, it is not a permanent solution. They will run out of the stock one day and it is nearly impossible to produce smartphones without all these US-based technology companies. Honor 20 Pro scores 111 in the DxOMark camera review; here’s how it compares with others

0
Honor seems to be following the footsteps of its parent company Huawei in terms of smartphone cameras. The recently launched Huawei P30 Pro scored the highest results on the DxOMark’s camera review. Earlier this week, Honor launched their next smartphones in the Honor 20-series that packs a quad-rear camera setup and has many features from Huawei’s flagship handset. Now, the Honor 20 Pro has received a DxOMark score of 111, just a day after its launch in London. Huawei P30 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G are the leading smartphones on DxOMark’s list with an overall score of 112. Honor 20 Pro’s overall score, on the other hand, is 111. We should mention that the score of the Honor 20 Pro matches the points scored by OnePlus 7 Pro. Being only one point below the top leaders states just how powerful and good the camera of the Honor 20 Pro is. What makes it even better is the fact that it is priced much lower than the Huawei’s flagship or the Samsung’s flagship device. Other than that, the Honor 20 Pro’s photo score is at 117 while its video score is 97 points. The Honor 20 Pro’s camera review by DxOMark is given for its exposure skills, bokeh effect, zooming capabilities, noise level and a great dynamic range. The report also states that the only thing the Honor 20 Pro falls short on is the detail performance which is lower than its competitors. The DxoMark’s reports that the Honor 20 Pro states that it gives some of the best highlights and shadow details. It is also capable of reproducing the vibrant and pleasant colours in the photographs. Other than this, the device performs well in low-light and produces less noise. According to the report, the bokeh effect of the smartphone is also one of the best with good subject isolation. It gives out a realistic gradient effect which applies different intensity of the blur to the objects at varying distances both in front of and behind the subject.
The report also states that the video colour rendering was good and video stabilisation was also efficient. While taking the video, the motion and the shake was counteracted by the camera stabilization thus delivering a smooth video. The Honor 20 Pro is similar to the Huawei P30 Pro in many ways and it is also a better more affordable option that the Huawei’s flagship. WhatsApp ads to come to its Status section in 2020

Instant messaging app WhatsApp will start serving advertisements in 2020. According to reports, at the Facebook Marketing Summit in Rotterdam, Netherlands, the announcement about WhatsApp was made. It has also been said that the ads will at first appear in the WhatsApp Status feature, much like they do on Instagram Stories. It is worth noticing that there have been several reports this year which had claimed that WhatsApp Status feature will be getting ads. WhatsApp ads will be made available on Status Section of its Android as well as iOS versions of the app. We should mention that the announcement has not been made via WhatsApp or Facebook though. BeConnectAgency’s Olivier Ponteville, who was present at a session of the ongoing Facebook Marketing Summit in Rotterdam, made the announcement about WhatsApp ads. An image was also shown at the summit which showed the presentation slide that showed what ads will look like on the instant messaging app. What adds more weight to the news is that the development about WhatsApp was also later shared by social media guru Matt Navarra. According to the demo at the summit, ads on WhatsApp will cover the entire screen and will come with a link that users will be able to go to after they swipe the screen. As we mentioned, they work a lot like the ads that we have seen on Instagram Stories. We should also mention that vice-president Chris Daniels also confirmed recently that the instant messaging app will be using its Status feature to showcase ads to its users.
According to a report in The Wall Street Journal that appeared last year and cited some officials from WhatsApp, the Status feature was supposed to showcase ads in 2019 itself. It is worth adding that WhatsApp beta version 2.18.305 for Android reportedly comes with the implementation of ads in its Status feature. The iPhone version of WhatsApp was also said to have the development for advertisements. However, these changes are not visible to users as yet because even in beta versions, they have not been made active yet. Besides this, WhatsApp will also be improving the experience for those who use the enterprise version of its app. At the summit, it was also announced that WhatsApp Business will soon be getting “richer message formats” to let users share images and PDF files via the app. The product catalogue on WhatsApp is claimed to be integrated within the existing Facebook Business Manager catalogue. Apple WWDC 2019 to be held on June 3, company sends out invites

0
Cupertino based technology giant Apple has sent invitations to the members of the technology press for its Worldwide Developers Conference. Apple’s WWDC 2019 will be held on June 3 at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California. The event will begin at 10 am PT. We should mention that this will be the third consecutive year when Apple will be holding its developers conference in San Jose, which is the third biggest in California and the 10th largest in the United States. The city is around 50 miles south of San Francisco and 10 miles from Apple’ headquarters that is located in Cupertino. Every year at the WWDC event, Apple talks in detail about the newest software that will come to its devices later during the year. The Cupertino-based technology giant is best known for its hardware, however, what sets Apple apart from its rivals is the integration of its top-notch devices with the secure software that it has. The company has the ability to control every aspect of its product and this is what has made it the most powerful company in the world of technology. Apple’s WWDC 2019 event will be very important for the company as it has now started focussing more on its software and services business. While the technology giant still sells millions of iPhones in any given quarter, the sales of smartphones are not soaring the way they did in the past, primarily because of their cost. Moreover, people usually stick with their iPhones for a long time because Apple is known to send the latest software updates to smartphones that are as old as even 3-4 years, if not more.
This has made it extremely important for Apple to come up with services that make its customers pay monthly or annually. Over the past few years, Apple has made a number of services including augmented reality, mobile payments and music-streaming. More recently, Apple also announced its News subscription service and Apple TV+, for which it has partnered with many celebrities including Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston. At the WWDC 2019, we expect the Cupertino based technology giant to come up with more details about what its plans with its services and also give us an insight into the iOS 13. Luckily, we don’t have to wait too much for it as June 3 is less than a fortnight away. Navia Life Care launches Navi, a voice based virtual assistant for doctors

Healthcare technology startup Navia Life Care has launched a voice-based virtual assistant for doctors called Navi. Much like any other virtual assistants, Navi is an application that can understand voice commands and complete tasks for a user but with a slight difference that separates it from the rest. The company has claimed that Navi virtual assistant can offer useful features with just a single click. The virtual assistant can create a digital prescription for the patient which can be printed or sent via an SMS. So, Navi is not only a passive listening device that will respond once it recognizes a command. It can also record and analyse both the doctor’s behaviour and the patient’s medical history. Navi’s algorithm is also claimed to help it predict possible remodification, diagnosis, medication schedules and investigations for patients. It can also be used by patients to get doctor recommendations. According to the World Health Organization, by 2035 the global health care shortage is expected to reach close to 13 million, and this signifies that health care providers will be in high demand across the world. When this happens, health service providers will be pushed to their limits in order to render services. To help health care professionals meet more medical challenges, Navia Life Care is working on making Navi into an Alexa for doctors. It will encompass on all possible tasks that they need to do in order to “augment” and enhance their practice.
Speaking about Navi virtual assistant, Mr Kunal Kishore Dhawan, Co-founder, and CEO of Navia said, “Navi will be helping doctors create digital prescriptions through a speech-to-text engine, converting voice inputs into structured prescriptions. And this is going to make Navi an innovative, useful and accessible means to strengthen the doctor-patient bond in India.”  He further added, “For a typed prescription, it takes anywhere between 45 seconds to 2 minutes, whereas by using Navi – the voice-based assistant, this time is reduced to less than 1 minute per prescription. Thus, with Navi, doctors will be able to use their time effectively with reduced chances for errors.” The company says that doctors shall reap immense benefits from Navi. Health care professionals will no longer have to maintain a detailed medical record and notes from previous visits to patients. With the new virtual assistant, they will be able to use their time effectively. The usability index offered by Navi via a single click system is seamless and user-friendly. The new virtual assistant can also be easily accessed from any smartphones. One just needs to install Navia’s doctor App to get the virtual assistant. Sony withdraws its smartphone business from India and other regions

2
After months of speculations and hints Sony confirmed that it will be stopping its smartphone business in India and will be withdrawing from the country. The decision was announced at Sony’s corporate strategy meeting for the fiscal year 2019 on Tuesday in Tokyo, Japan. The meeting discussed Sony’s smartphone business transformation and the company announced its decision to withdraw from some of the countries. We should mention that India is one among these countries. According to Sony, Japan, Europe, Taiwan and Hong Kong are its major ‘focus regions’ for the smartphone business. Earlier in March, Sony had announced that it was closing its smartphone plant in Beijing, China and had shifted it to Thailand. Other than withdrawing business from some of the countries and regions, the company also said that it has plans to cut the operational cost by 50%. The company highlighted that Sony’s business transformation using a presentation slide. The company stated that its main focus regions will be – Japan, Europe, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. There are other major countries which other smartphone companies seem to focus heavily on, but according to Sony, they have labeled some of these countries as ‘non-focus’ or ‘defocused regions’. These countries are as non-focused regions with respect to sales and marketing of the Sony smartphones. With that said, the Japanese electronics maker will be withdrawing from these countries. The non-focus or defocused countries include – Africa, Australia, Canada, India, Mexico, and the Middle East.
The company also said that it will be aiming to reduce the operation cost of smartphones by 50% and overall cost by 57% in the fiscal year 2020 from the fiscal year 2017. This move will help the company to make the smartphone business profitable in the long run. And by cutting the production and sales of smartphones in certain countries/ regions it is cutting its costs thus adding to profits. But since Sony’s smartphone business was already in tatters in these countries, withdrawing from these regions was the best idea. sony Earlier, a report claimed that Sony was about to cut its mobile division workforce by half by the year 2020. When they shut down their smartphone plant from China to Thailand, they had the goal of turning more profits in mind in the smartphone business. And now that they had withdrawn from a number of countries, the move is huge but the end goal remains the same – generating more profits for the company. ARM cuts ties with Huawei amid the US trade ban

After Google, Intel, Qualcomm and Broadcom, chip designer ARM has suspended its business with Chinese smartphone maker Huawei. This is a major cause of concern for the smartphone brand as this would affect its ability to create its own processors. According to a report that has surfaced online, employees at ARM have been instructed to stop “all active contracts, support entitlements, and any pending engagements” with Huawei because of the US trade ban. The United States has banned any companies in the country from doing business with Huawei without getting permission from the government. We should point out that ARM is based in the United Kingdom and is owned by Japan’s SoftBank. But even then, it has decided to halt its business with Huawei, according to a report in BBC News. The company is concerned that it is affected because of the US ban as it has an internal memo that reveals that its chip designs come with ‘US-origin technology‘. We should mention that ARM develops some processor designs in Austin, Texas and San Jose, California and these can be counted under the restrictions that have been imposed by the United States. Huawei depends on ARM for chip architecture designs for its own processors and it pays the company to get a license for these. Without these licenses, the Chinese smartphone brand will not be able to continue manufacturing its own processors using ARM designs. Huawei needs these designs for its HiSilicon fabless semiconductor company. As of now, it is not clear if ARM has made this move because it is being cautious about the ban that has been imposed by the US government or because it has directly been advised to step its business with the Chinese smartphone brand. If it is the former, Huawei would still have other semiconductor companies to go to, however, if it is the latter, we may get to see other companies backing off too.
It has been reported though that Huawei has stockpiled enough US made parts to last three months to a year, so it definitely does have enough to keep its operations running. However, stockpiling is not exactly a solution as the company will run out the parts at some point in time. Other US-based manufacturers that Huawei relies on include Micron, Skyworks, and Qorvo. Without access to key components from them and ARM, Huawei now faces a nearly impossible task of manufacturing smartphones without any US technology inside them. Windows 10 May 2019 update is now rolling out to all via stable update

Software giant Microsoft has finally started rolling out the Windows 10 May 2019 update to everyone. The Windows 10 May 2019 update is the next major build of Windows 10 and it is currently being rolled out in a phased manner and will soon reach all the people across the globe. The new update comes with a number of new features such as giving users enhanced control over the installation of updates, a dedicated sandbox that can be used for testing apps and more. We should mention that Windows 10 May 2019 update rollout is accompanied by the release of Windows health dashboard that lets users find out about the status of updates, bugs that are associated with them and more. In addition to this, you should know that you need to have a minimum of 32GBof storage on your system for both the versions of the update (32-bit and 64 bit). You would also have to make sure that there isn’t any SD card or a USB drive plugged into the PC or laptop, because in such a case, the update would not be installed. It is also worth adding that the update had arrived on the Windows Insider Release Preview Ring and Microsoft’s Media Creation tool before it finally became available for everyone today via a stable update. Microsoft had promised that it will be releasing the stable update in May itself and it kept its word. Coming to the changes that have been introduced by the update, a new delivery mechanism has been added that gives users more control over when they should install an update. With the new update, users will also be able to pause all update activity for 35 days and instead go for installing updates manually. Speaking of Windows Health dashboard, it will enable users to check the status of updates and understand what are the potential issues that are associated with it.
The integrated Cortana search bar will also be separated and you will now be able to find it as a separate Cortana button and a dedicated search bar. We should mention that this change is being tested since the beginning of 2019. Windows Sandbox is another very key change that has been added. It is basically a virtualisation feature that will allow users to test programs in an isolated environment so that it can be of no harm in the native system. The software giant has announced that the update will be rolled out in a phased manner. You can check for the Windows 10 May 2019 update on your PC by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates.
