Following criticism from rock and folk stars for giving voice to misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines, Spotify CEO said that every podcast episode including debates over COVID-19 will include a content alert. The action comes on the heels of Neil Young and Joni Mitchell’s statement that they will withdraw their music from Spotify in protest of the popular streaming service facilitating the propagation of misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines.
The popular music streaming service Spotify via its blog post revealed about adding a “content advisory” to any podcast episode that includes discussion about COVID-19. In the following days, this new initiative to battle disinformation will be sent out to nations throughout the world. The company further added that this is the first content alert issued by a major podcast platform.
“We are working to add a content advisory to any podcast episode that includes a discussion about COVID-19. This advisory will direct listeners to our dedicated COVID-19 Hub, a resource that provides easy access to data-driven facts, up-to-date information as shared by scientists, physicians, academics and public health authorities around the world, as well as links to trusted sources. This new effort to combat misinformation will roll out to countries around the world in the coming days. To our knowledge, this content advisory is the first of its kind by a major podcast platform,” Spotify noted in its blog post.
In addition to this Spotify will also begin testing methods to emphasise its Platform Rules in its creator and publisher tools in order to promote awareness about what is allowed and assist creators to understand their responsibilities for the material they upload on our platform. This is in addition to the agreements under which authors and publishers agree to utilise Spotify’s services.
The renowned singer Neil Young sent an open letter accusing Spotify of promoting erroneous information regarding vaccines – perhaps causing death by distributing Rogan’s podcast, which has millions of listeners. Rogan has advocated for the use of the anti-parasitic drug ivermectin to treat the virus in youngsters outside of its approved use.
“I realised I could not continue to support Spotify’s life-threatening misinformation to the music-loving public,” his published letter stated.

The OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G will be available next month, according to a new leak. Apple’s iPhone leads the global smartphone market in the Q4 2021, with Samsung coming in second: Report
According to recent Strategy Analytics data, worldwide smartphone sales declined 3 percent year on year to 365 million units in Q4 2021. In 2021, full-year smartphone shipments increased by 5% year on year to 1.36 billion devices. In Q4 2021, Apple’s iPhone led the worldwide smartphone market with a robust 22 percent dominance. In full-year 2021, Samsung retained the top position with a 20 percent market share.
In Q4 2021, global smartphone shipments declined -3 percent year on year to 365 million devices. As per the report in the fourth quarter of last year, smartphone supply was still constrained by factory bottlenecks and component shortages. Full-year smartphone shipments increased +5% year on year to 1.36 billion units in 2021, recovering from a -8% year on year fall led by Covid in 2020.
“We estimate Apple shipped 80 million iPhones and topped the global smartphone market with a healthy 22% share in Q4 2021,” Strategy Analytics report noted.
The new iPhone 13 series was well received in China and other regions. In Q4 2021, Samsung delivered 69 million smartphones, up +12% year on year, for a 19% global market share. Samsung had a strong quarter, thanks in part to its groundbreaking Flip and Fold 5G models. Samsung expanded faster than all of its big competitors combined.
Whereas Xiaomi delivered 45 million smartphones in Q4 2021, moving up to the third position with a 12 percent worldwide market share, up from 11 percent the previous year. During the fourth quarter of 2021, OPPO (OnePlus) ranked fourth, accounting for 9% of the worldwide smartphone market. In Q4 2021, Vivo remained fifth with an 8 percent worldwide smartphone market share.

- You’ll be asked to add a password to lock notes in Apple Notes if you haven’t already done so. If you’d like, type it twice and include a clue. Make sure the Use Face ID slider is turned on so you may use Face ID instead of your password for convenience.
- Go to Notes > Password in the Settings app on your iPhone to update or reset this password later with your Apple ID.
Financial Apps

Meta has rolled out a new software update that brings functionalities like screenshot alerts that will soon notify users of screenshots captured inside Secret Conversations. The conversations through the Secret Conversations feature are end-to-end encrypted. Not just that the service will now offer GIFs, stockers, reactions and more.
While announcing the release of the new Facebook Messenger update the Meta owned service commented, “Today, we’re announcing updates for Messenger’s opt-in end-to-end encrypted chats that will help improve your messaging experience. This is why we are continuing to introduce some of the rich features that you already love in Messenger to end-to-end encrypted chats.”

Google Maps is rolling out a new software update for Indian users allowing them to save and share the address of their home with Plus Codes. This will let the users obtain exact digital addresses for their homes or any place on Earth which also include places that don’t have accurate formal addresses. Plus Codes also ease the discovery of and navigation to businesses.
Google via its blog post said, “Today, we are pleased to announce the launch of a new India-first feature on Google Maps: use your current location to find the Plus Codes address for your home.”
Plus Codes are free, open-source digital addresses that give easy and accurate addresses for every location on Earth, including those with no formal addresses. Instead of street and neighbourhood names, Plus Codes are based on latitude and longitude and are shown as a brief series of numbers and letters that provide precision all the way up to the door.
While announcing the release of Plus Codes feature for Google Maps India, the company said, “Since its launch in 2018, we have seen Plus Codes being adopted at scale by NGOs in India and beyond (including Addressing the Unaddressed, Shelter Associates, and Rural Utah Project) and governments (such as Sub-Saharan Africa) as it serves the addressing needs of millions of people. Plus Codes also ease the discovery of and navigation to businesses.”

As per the company, a total of filmmakers will be given a chance to participate in the workshops led by the greatest in the creative business. They will also get the opportunity to further produce a short film that will be aired on Netflix’s India YouTube channel.
Film critic, author and Film Companion editor, Anupama Chopra, who is leading the program said, “Take Ten is a celebration of storytelling and originality. The workshop and competition aim to be inclusive and showcase the diverse voices behind and in front of the camera in India. I hope Take Ten enables artists across India to find their footing and soar.”
Take Ten is supported by the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity, which has committed $100 million per year for the next five years to preparing underrepresented groups for success in the television and film industries through initiatives all across the world. As per the video streaming platform, Ten filmmakers will be given an exciting opportunity to attend workshops by the best in the creative industry and then to make a fully-funded short film with a $10,000 grant. The films will be showcased on Netflix’s India YouTube channel.
How to apply for Netflix India Take Ten competition?
Anyone in India is eligible to apply to the Netflix India Take Ten competition. There are only two requirements to join: Applicants must be Indian citizens or residents above the age of 18. Registration will begin on February 7, 2022, at www.taketen.in. To compete, candidates must submit a video of up to two minutes in length based on the theme ‘My India,’ taken on their phone and representing who they are as a filmmaker. The applications will be examined in the order they are received. Shortlisted participants will not only have the opportunity to bring their short film idea to life, but they will also have the opportunity to learn about writing, direction, production, and other skills from award-winning talent such as Abhishek Chaubey, Hansal Mehta, Juhi Chaturvedi, Neeraj Ghaywan, and Guneet Monga. Sony introduced the WF-1000XM4 wireless earphones last year in the international market and we were hoping they will launch these in the Indian market at that time only. But as the saying goes, better late than never. The Sony WF-1000XM4 finally have made it to the Indian shore and they are making quite a wonderful clamour. We got our hands on them and this is the Sony WF-1000XM4 review, which you need to read first before buying them.
The charging case can be charged using the USB Type-C port placed on the back or can be wireless charged as it is Qi-enabled, too. The case is not very heavy (39 grams, without the earphones) and the matt black finish works well for it. Sony’s branding can also be found on the top of the lid in gold. Flip it open and you will see a LED lamp light up the front. The Sony WF-1000XM4 earphones are neatly tucked inside. Yes, the containment has magnets in each pocket to snap the earplugs in place.
Talking about the Sony WF-1000XM4 built and quality, these are built with absolute perfection. The Sony craftsmanship can be seen here. The Sony branding (again in gold) can be found on each earpiece with a hint of extra bronzish gold on them. Both have charging points underneath along with sensors that pause the music as soon one of them is pulled out of the ear. They also have black matt finish and overall weigh 14 grams (7gm each).
The resonance of the Sony WF-1000XM4 is exceptional. We loved every bit of it. 7 grams is light on the ear and with active noise cancellation (ANC) the sound is brilliant. A tap on the left earplug you can turn down ANC and another one can turn it back up. Tapping or double-tapping on the right one, you can play/pause or go to the next track. If you tap and hold the left one, you can hear the ambient sounds too. So, some of the neat features from its bigger sibling do drop into this one as well.ANC
The bass of the Sony WF-1000XM4 is very good. You can also control it using the equaliser settings in the app. The vocals are clear and we heard quite a few songs on Spotify using them, and it kept impressing us with each soundtrack we played. We saw a Netflix show also with them and the latency is fine here. The movie and show watching experience was superb. But we would not fully recommend them to professional gamers, as there is a bit of lag from shot to sound. So, yes pro PUBG players, you are better off buying its elder (wired) familial.
Google Assistant as well as Alexa AI is supported, and one can easily command them using the multiple MICS that come on the Sony WF-1000XM4. Coming to its battery life, Sony claims you can get 8 hours of music playback with ANC on, which is about right. We got 7.5 hours of music playback time. Over that, with 5 mins of battery charge, users can get 60 minutes of playback time. The charging case in total supplies another 16 hours of charge to the earphones.

Moreover, they have IPX4 water resistance rating, so light splashes of water, sweat or rain will not ruin them. If the Bluetooth is turned on, on your smartphone, the device detects the Sony WF-1000XM4 easily and one can pair them at the press of a button. It will ask you to download the Sony Headphones Connect app, which has all the options to enhance the experience like equalisers and 360 reality audio. This feature clicks images of your ear and the AI analyses your ear type to make the sound experience better.
