In a teaser video on Twitter, the company has given a glimpse of this white-coloured electric toothbrush stating that “Switch to Pro Brushing”.

However, it is still unclear which model of electric tooth brush Xiaomi would bring in India. In February, Xiaomi had rolled out its first electric toothbrush in India called Mi Electric Toothbrush T300. George Floyd Death: Know how Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella shows solidarity with Black Community

0

After Google and Twitter, Microsoft has finally showed support to the Black Community. In an email from CEO Satya Nadella to Microsoft employees, the 52-year-old said, “As we see the everyday racism, bias and violence experienced by the Black and African American community, the tragic and horrific murders of so many, the violence in cities across the US, it is time for us to act in all arenas.”

With calls for action, calls for reflection, calls for change from Microsoft employees over the past several days, Nadella said his response is this: “Yes. We have to act.” The actions must reflect the values of Microsoft company and be directly informed by the needs of the Black and African American community. “We must continue to nurture the energy and passion that the Blacks at Microsoft employee resource group fueled in all of us since its founding in 1989. We have been on a cultural transformation journey and must accelerate our pace of change. Each of us, starting with me, must look at where we are as individuals, confront our fixed mindset and act. Our humanity is what calls out to us to make the world a better place,” added Nadella.

Microsoft will deepen its engagement with six organizations that are advancing social justice, helping community organizers address racial inequality, and offering solidarity to the Black community: Black Lives Matter Foundation, Equal Justice Initiative, Innocence Project, The Leadership Conference, Minnesota Freedom Fund, and NAACP Legal Defense & Education Fund. “This starts with a company donation of $250,000 to each of these organizations ($1.5 million in total), followed by a company match of our employees’ contributions to eligible organizations. Together, through your giving and the company match, we have donated more than $15 million to civil rights, social action, and advocacy nonprofit organizations since 2015,” stated the Microsoft CEO.

In Microsoft’s Employee Town Hall last week, Nadella said “each of us – starting with me and the senior leaders at the company – has a role to play. We cannot episodically wake up when a new tragedy occurs. A systemic problem requires a holistic response.”

Stating that he is heartbroken by the deep pain the communities are feeling, the Microsoft CEO said “The results of systemic racism, which have impacted opportunities and exacerbated injustices for Black and African American communities, urge me to consider my own role as a leader. I must continue my journey of understanding and empathy and examine actions I take, or don’t take, every day. Listening and learning from my Black and African American colleagues is helping me develop a better understanding of their experience. And I take accountability for my own continued learning on the realities of privilege, inequity and race and modelling the behaviour I want to see in the world.”

While addressing the Microsoft employees, Nadella added that as a company, we need to look inside, examine our organization, and do better. Microsoft needs to embrace the same speed and mindset that we do in anticipating and building for future technological shifts. With each passing day, Microsoft works to bridge the gap between the culture all espouse and the daily lived experience.

Besides this, Microsoft invests in the talent pipeline broadly as it has expanded its connections with Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The company also has to create an environment where all voices are heard and valued. “I ask each of us to recommit to our shared D&I priority, participate in our inclusion learning programs, use the tools and resources we have shared on becoming an effective ally for others. We have the capabilities to make Microsoft more diverse and inclusive, but we must do the work, added Nadella.

Mitron app revived back on Google Play Store few days after it was turned down, while Remove China Apps remains delisted

After staying away from Google Play Store days after being removed from by the tech giant Google the TikTok clone is finally back on the Play Store. The company has removed the short video app from its platform for violating its  “Spam and Minimum Functionality” policy.

In a similar way, before the Miton app was removed, Remove China Apps was also delisted along with other apps from Google Play Store. However later we got to know that the developers of the Mitron app were in talks with the tech giant to fix issues related to the company’s policies. The company’s head  Sameer Samat via a blog post revealed that the company had given the developer of the application some guidance for facilitating the application’s return to Play Store. However, the Mitron app has been restored after some design changes. The developers have also updated its privacy policy pace whereas the promoter’s website has now been updated. We hardly see any chances that the tech giant would give a send thought to bring back Remove China Apps.

To recall the app managed to cross more than 50 million downloads on Google’s platform. The app is an alternative to Chinese TikTok on June two the app was taken down from the Google Play Store for violating its policy which says that  “Apps should provide value to users through the creation of unique content or services.” It also states that the app should provide a “basic degree of functionality and a respectful user experience.”

On the removal of the app Sameer Samat, Vice President, Android and Google Play said, “A number of recent app removals received particular attention in India and we wanted to clarify our actions. We recently suspended a number of apps for violating the policy that we don’t allow an app that encourages or incentivizes users into removing or disabling third-party apps or modifying device settings or features unless it is part of a verifiable security service.” He further added  “Earlier this week, we removed a video app for a number of technical policy violations. We have an established process of working with developers to help them fix issues and resubmit their apps.  We’ve given this developer some guidance and once they’ve addressed the issue the app can go back up on Play.”

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series and the Galaxy Fold 2 are most likely to get launched on August 5

The last time the Korean Giant Samsung electronics hosted a separate event to unveil  Galaxy Note 10 series and Galaxy Fold. But this time the company is planning not to hold separate events to release the successors of both smartphones. In fact, it is going to be unveiled at a dedicated event in the coming month. On August 5 Samsung is expected to host an Unpacked 2020 digital event amid the coronavirus pandemic. At the launch event, the company will unveil Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series and the Galaxy Fold 2 which is the successor of Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Fold that were introduced last year in 2019.

A report by a South Korean publication The Dong-A Ilbo suggests that Samsung Electronics will hold an event to unveil new Galaxy smartphones, including the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Fold 2, on August 5 at the Unpacked 2020. This time the company has decided to take the support of online launch events instead of inviting domestic and overseas media companies due to coronavirus.

A staff member of Samsung Electronics has revealed to the publisher that, “Internal discussions are taking place, but the plan to hold the Galaxy Unpacked event on August 5 is being reviewed favorably,” That means that the company’s flagship devices are expected to get launched in the second half of the year. Like always the Unpacked event is going to take place in New York.

An industry insider also revealed that “As COVID-19 is still spreading and anti-racism protests are worsening in the U.S., this year’s event is likely to be held online,” So besides the pandemic, the anti-racism protests in the US is another reason that Samsung will go for a virtual event to launch Galaxy Note 20 series and the Galaxy Fold 2.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 is most likely to be offered in two variants: a regular 6.7-inch display while the Plus variant will come with a 6.9-inch display. The speculations are being made that this time Galaxy Note 20 Plus will change to Ulta.

Prior to the launch, the pricing of Samsung’s upcoming foldable phone’s pricing has also been leaked on the web. As per a leak Galaxy Fold 2 is expected to be priced between $1,880 and $1895 that translates to Rs 1,44,000 whereas the sipping of the devices will begin later in September. The second generation of Galaxy Fold will retain the form factor of its predecessor but this time it will come with a bigger display, upgraded cameras, SPen and 5G support.

Facebook now executes its plan to label state-controlled media outlets

0

In order to bring more transparency to its users for understanding who’s behind the news they see on Facebook, the Mark Zuckerberg-owned social networking giant has executed its plan to label media outlets that are wholly or partially under the editorial control of their respective government.

In an official blog post, Nathaniel Gleicher, Head of Cybersecurity Policy at Facebook, said, “We’re providing greater transparency into these publishers because they combine the influence of a media organization with the strategic backing of a state, and we believe people should know if the news they read is coming from a publication that may be under the influence of a government.”

Moreover, Facebook will also start labelling ads from state-controlled media outlets later this year to ensure the users that it’s equally transparent when it comes to paid content. “State-controlled media outlets rarely advertise in the US. Nevertheless, later this summer we will begin blocking ads from these outlets in the US out of an abundance of caution to provide an extra layer of protection against various types of foreign influence in the public debate ahead of the November 2020 election in the US,” the social-networking giant added.

According to Facebook, “The labels will appear globally in the Ad Library Page view, on Pages, and in the Page Transparency section.” In the US, the label will also start to appear on posts in News Feed over the course of the next week.

Facebook consulted nearly 65 experts from the field of media, governance as well as human rights and development to understand the degrees to which governments exert editorial control over media entities. “We know that governments continue to use funding mechanisms to control media, but this alone doesn’t tell the full story. That’s why our definition of state-controlled media extends beyond just assessing financial control or ownership and includes an assessment of editorial control exerted by a government,” added Gleicher.

On the basis of these consultations and research, Facebook formed its own policy criteria to determine whether a publisher is wholly or partially under the editorial control of a government.

Facebook stated that it will not apply the label if it determines that there are enough protections in place to ensure editorial independence. Besides this, the social-networking platform added that it also consider country-specific factors, including press freedom and we consult open-source research conducted by academics and leading experts.

In case an organization believes that Facebook has applied the label in error, they can submit an appeal. Through the appeal, they can provide additional documentation, which we will review against our definition.

Amazon India now enables its sellers to manage online business in Hindi

0

With an aim to help millions of Indian MSMEs to overcome language barriers to embrace the eCommerce opportunity, Amazon has now enabled its sellers to register on Amazon.in marketplace and manage their online business starting with Hindi. The experience has been made available on the Amazon seller website as well as on the mobile app. Besides this, Amazon also provides Seller Support Services and Seller University videos and tutorials in Hindi.

As businesses are trying to emerge from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic to explore new opportunities for growth, Gopal Pillai, VP Seller Services at Amazon India, said, “As we look at enabling more and more of Indian MSMEs to embrace ecommerce to grow, we continue to double down our efforts on vernacular, voice and video powered initiatives. The launch of the vernacular registration and account management experience for sellers starting with Hindi is a step in that direction.”

During the six-months testing phase, thousands of Amazon sellers from Tier 1, 2 and 3 cities across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh have switched to the Hindi experience to manage their accounts. During the testing phase, for the first time new sellers from markets like Darbhanga in Bihar, Barmer in Rajasthan, Mahoba in Uttar Pradesh, Hailakandi in Assam and Bardhaman in West Bengal signed up on the Amazon.in marketplace.

The preferred language can changed following a few simple steps on both Amazon’s Seller website and Seller mobile app. Sellers registering through the Desktop can change their preferred language by accessing the ‘language drop-down’ available on every page, at the top-right corner. On the Seller App, the language can be changed through the language drop-down on the bottom left corner while registering and through the App ‘Settings’ menu. Once the language is changed, sellers can view all pages and workflows in Hindi.

Amazon India is leaving no stone unturned to expand the eCommerce opportunity to both customers and businesses in the areas of Vernacular, Voice and Video-enabled initiatives for the past few years. Amazon Prime Video makes titles available in Hindi, English, Marathi, Tamil, Malayalam, Gujarati, Telugu, Kannada, Punjabi and Bengali in addition to English. Users can browse through Prime Video experience in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu in addition to English. Authors can self-publish their work on Kindle Direct Publishing in five Indian languages including Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Marathi and Gujarati in addition to English.

Besides this, Amazon Alexa, a cloud-based voice service, also understands proper nouns in various languages such as Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, etc. With the launch of Alexa in Hindi, customers can ask questions and interact with Alexa in Hindi or Hinglish, in addition to English. In March this year, Alexa was also available on the Amazon shopping app for Android devices to help users shop for items via voice.

Know why Google scrapped ‘Remove China Apps’, ‘Mitron’ from Play Store

0

After taking down Remove China Apps and Mitron along with other apps from Google Play Store, the tech giant has finally clarified its action by stating that its digital media store has been designed to provide a safe and secure experience for its consumers while also giving developers the platform and tools they need to build sustainable businesses.

According to Sameer Samat, Vice President, Android and Google Play, “A number of recent app removals received particular attention in India and we wanted to clarify our actions. We recently suspended a number of apps for violating the policy that we don’t allow an app that encourages or incentivizes users into removing or disabling third-party apps or modifying device settings or features unless it is part of a verifiable security service.”

Without naming the app, Samat also added, “Earlier this week, we removed a video app for a number of technical policy violations. We have an established process of working with developers to help them fix issues and resubmit their apps.  We’ve given this developer some guidance and once they’ve addressed the issue the app can go back up on Play.”

Stressing upon its longstanding rule designed to ensure a healthy, competitive environment where developers can succeed based upon design and innovation, an official blogpost by Google stated, “When apps are allowed to specifically target other apps, it can lead to behaviour that we believe is not in the best interest of our community of developers and consumers. We’ve enforced this policy against other apps in many countries consistently in the past – just as we did here.”

Hoping that this would help clarify the rationale behind these recent actions, Google thanked its developers for all the amazing work they do and our consumers for their continued support in helping to create a safe and secure mobile app ecosystem.

The anti-China sentiments in India spurred after engineer-turned-reformer Sonam Wangchuk made an appeal to the citizens of Indian to boycott Chinese products and “stop virtually financing the current military bullying in Ladakh and the South China Sea.”

According to Wangchuk, “If we citizens are clever we should use our wallet power rather than leaving it totally to our armies to respond with their bullets. The bullet response is what China is looking for as it helps unite its angry citizens to forgive the mistakes and forget the economic hardships caused by the regime’s poor handling of COVID 19.”

COVID-19 crisis: This AI system knows why you can’t concentrate on work

0

In a latest research published in journal IEEE Internet of Things, computer scientists at Autralia’s RMIT University have developed a way to measure staff comfort and concentration in flexible working spaces using artificial intelligence (AI). People around world have been working from home ever since the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. Now, with coronavirus restrictions beginning to ease in some parts of the world and employers planning the return to office-based work, a new sensor-based system developed by RMIT and Arup can offer insights on how to get the best out of these flexible working spaces.

The RMIT team behind the study are experts in using AI to uncover patterns in human behaviour. In order to carry out the research, they worked with psychologists to identify several key variables for concentration and comfort levels in work environments, then set about measuring these with sensors.

With an aim to develop and test the new AI-driven system, the researcher at RMIT University worked with global design and engineering firm Arup over four weeks on 31 staff in two of the company’s activity-based working offices.

According to study lead author and Research Fellow in RMIT University’s School of Science Dr Mohammad Saiedur Rahaman: “Data was collected on noise levels, indoor temperature and air quality, humidity, air pressure, and even electromagnetic fields. We used that information along with survey data to train machine learning algorithms that could identify patterns in perceived concentration and activity, and then provided solutions for making these spaces work best for people.”

Asserting that recent technological developments and the proliferation of pervasive technologies had opened up many opportunities to collect data from various sensors and smart devices, study leader from RMIT’s School of Science Flora Salim, who is an associate professor, said, “Despite the myriad applications harnessing this data for smart decision-making systems, this is the first research we’re aware of that has used pervasive sensing passively to measure workers perceived concentration levels while they are at work.”

The RMIT researchers discovered that the staff was generally supportive of their activity-based working setup. However, data identified that different people concentrated better in different zones, as well as other important insights for managing staff in the space. Like many people had a favourite working spot and found concentrating more difficult if they weren’t able to sit there. Apart from this, workers were also more sensitive to the office temperature not being exactly right if they missed out on their favourite seat. Regardless of where they sat, office temperature was a major factor in how comfortable and focused people were, noticed the researchers.

Most found temperatures below 22.5C too cold to fully concentrate and, as the day progressed, it was observed that people became increasingly sensitive to this. A major influence on perceived concentration in the mornings, unsurprisingly, was sleep quality the night before.

“We see this type of system having the potential to eventually be used to enable informed decision-making regarding workplace design and layout, or even to suggest to people when to take breaks, what zone might suit them best and so on,” Rahaman said.

Arup engineer and project partner, Shaw Kudo, said beyond the useful insights on their own office, they also saw it as an opportunity to help the wider property industry. “Modern offices, new and existing, are likely to undergo change and potentially redesign workplaces post COVID-19. The valuable findings from this work can feed into future designs and allow Arup to better service our clients as they plan their future workplace – whether this is a new-build, or a return to the office after COVID-19.’
