Facebook rolled out Quite mode to mute most of the push notification for Android and iOS users

The Social media app Facebook has come up with a new feature on its platform called  ‘Quiet Mode’. Last week the company released this feature for the iOS users. It allows them to mute most of the push notifications where people are constantly getting buzzed, which is quite annoying at times.

We have to accept the fact that Facebook has become a habit now and is quite addictive. So, to cut down that habit and to manage the screen time, the platform has introduced the Quiet Mode feature. This mode will allow you to take a break from the app for a small duration of time. You can schedule a time duration so that you can switch off the notifications when you don’t want to receive them.

When the mode is turned on you won’t receive a single notification and ultimately you won’t be able to open the app to check notifications. Mistakenly if you open the app when the Quiet mode is turned on, it will reflect a reminder on your screen telling you that the mode is turned on. Also, it will show remaining time left when the mode is turned off, but you can manually bypass the system for a duration of 15 minutes.

In addition to this, the users will be able to keep a watch on their usage for a period of two weeks. Also, Facebook has added shortcuts to Notification settings and news feed preference.

Facebook in its blog post said, “As we all adjust to new routines and staying home, setting boundaries for how you spend your time online can be helpful. Whether it’s to help you focus on your family and friends, sleep without distraction or manage how you spend your time at home, we have tools that can help you find the right balance for how you use Facebook. We added Quiet Mode, which mutes most push notifications, and if you try to open Facebook while in Quiet Mode, you’ll be reminded that you set this time aside to limit your time in the app. We also added shortcuts to Notification Settings and News Feed Preferences, so you can make the most of your time on Facebook by controlling the type of posts you see in your News Feed as well as the updates you receive.”

Before rolling out this feature to Android users, the company released the feature for its iOS platform last week. Quite mode can be found under the Settings & Privacy section

The protagonists face off against hostile North Korean soldiers, heavily armed mercenaries, and a race of technologically advanced aliens known as the Ceph, who arrived on Earth millions of years ago and have recently been awakened. The series consists of three main installments, a standalone spinoff of the first game with a separate multiplayer title, and a compilation.

Besides this, Crytek invited developers to experience the power of CryEngine on mobile first by registering for a beta program at cryengine.com/beta. The beta program will launch later this year. As people across India are currently under a lockdown and practising social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, digital payments have gain a centre stage. Now even Google has introduced the ‘Nearby Spot’ on Google Pay to help users see local stores providing essentials like groceries, which are currently open.

Google Pay believes this information will help users to contact the appropriate business, pay digitally and aid social distancing efforts. The ‘Nearby Spot’ has been rolled out in Bengaluru and will be launching in Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, and Delhi soon.

Besides this ‘Nearby Spot’, the tech giant has also rolled out the COVID-19 Spot feature on Google Pay that provides all pertinent information on the topic, sourced directly from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

“The Spot also helps users donate to PM-CARES or to NGOs such as SEEDS, Give India, United Way and Charities Aid Foundation, which are working towards procurement of protective equipment for medical workers and relief for lockdown-impacted daily wagers. Donations to PM-CARES on Google Pay have thus far collected over ₹105 crores and continue to grow,” an official Google India blogpost revealed.

Moreover, Google is working to support those whose livelihoods and access to basic sustenance are at risk dur to COVID-19 — especially the millions of migrant workers returning to their hometowns, or stranded in the cities without a source of income or food.

For this, Google has started indicating the locations of hundreds of food and night shelters set up by the government across the country, accessible through Google Maps, Search, and Google Assistant. Up until now, this includes more than 33 cities with over 1,500 food and night shelters identified. An official blogpost has clarified that users can put forth query in both English and Hindi as of now, and efforts are on to bring this to other Indian languages over the coming weeks.

Besides this, the information on COVID-19 can also be accessed via Google Assistant on KaiOS in both Hindi and English. All one need to do is simply take the name of location and ask ‘ में भोजन केंद्र’ and ‘ में रैन बसेरा’, or ‘Food shelters in ’ and ‘Night shelters in ’.

In addition, Vodafone-Idea subscribers can also use the Phone Line offering that enables 2G feature phone users to get details of nearby food and night shelters by dialing the toll-free number 000 800 9191 000, and using the queries above.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the health and lives of many across India as it necessary to introduce fundamental changes to our routine life in this unprecedented situation.

COVID-19 crisis: Apple collaborates with Google to facilitate contact tracing technology

0

With the COVID-19 outbreak, governments and health authorities are working day-and-night to find out solutions in order to protect people and get society back up and running. Now, tech giants Google and Apple have also announced a joint effort to enable the use of Bluetooth technology to assist governments and health agencies in containing the spread of Coronavirus virus.

Several health organizations have found contact tracing as a pivotal tool to enable the medics contain the spread of COVID-19 outbreak as it can be transmitted through close proximity to affected individuals.

Apple and Google will be launching a comprehensive solution that includes application programming interfaces (APIs) and operating system-level technology to help the government and health agencies use contact tracing as a tool to combat COVID-19 pandemic.

Mind you! Apple and Google’s plan is to implement this solution in two steps while maintaining strong protections around user privacy:

  • First, in May, both Google and Apple will release APIs that enable interoperability between Android and iOS devices using apps from public health authorities. These official apps will be available for users to download via their respective app stores.
  • Second phase will start post May. During this time, Apple and Google will work to enable a broader Bluetooth-based contact tracing platform by building this functionality into the underlying platforms. The companies claims, “This is a more robust solution than an API and would allow more individuals to participate, if they choose to opt in, as well as enable interaction with a broader ecosystem of apps and government health authorities.”

However, emphasis have been put on the fact that privacy, transparency, and consent are of utmost importance in this effort. Both Google and Apple hope to create this contact tracing technology after consulting with interested stakeholders. Moreover, the information will be made transparent for others to analyse what’s happening.

Asserting that there has never been a more important moment to work together to solve one of the world’s most pressing problems COVID-19 pandemic, Apple and Google believe that “through close cooperation and collaboration with developers, governments and public health providers, we hope to harness the power of technology to help countries around the world slow the spread of COVID-19 and accelerate the return of everyday life.”

LG’s upcoming smartphone to house Raindrop camera, 3D Arc Design

0

In what seems like LG Electronics has taken a break from launching similar-looking smartphone, the company has now provided a glimpse of it upcoming smartphone that features a “Raindrop” camera and front-back symmetrical curves, among other evolutionary design departures from previous LG mobile devices.

“Our upcoming smartphone will draw on the rich history of classic LG designs which have always been distinctive at first touch. This handset will be a first-look at the competitive edge we will be bringing to every LG smartphone going forward,” said vice president Cha Yong-duk, head of LG’s Mobile Communications Design Lab.

As per the company, “This a new minimalistic design language for LG next smartphone is a nod to the natural world with a visual form factor that differs from the industry trend.”

Usually we see that many high-end smartphones come fitted with the squarish camera bump, but now the upper-left corner of the LG phone’s backside hosts three rear cameras and an LED flash in descending order by size that aims at capturing even images of falling raindrops.

Mind you! The main camera sits slightly above the surface while the other two lens lie seamlessly under the smooth glass. This tactilely pleasing design layout offers the added benefit of taking up less space on the rear of the phone for a cleaner, sleeker overall look.

Beside the Raindrop camera feature, another new design element that will be making its debut in the upcoming device is 3D Arc Design, where the edges of the display and rear are symmetrically curved. This will provide a much more natural feeling in the hand than previously-launched LG phones. As per the company, “This artful design touch means less sharp edges and angles that makes the phone not only more pleasing to the eye, but also more pleasing to touch.”

Recently, LG reported tentative consolidated revenues of KRW 14.7 trillion in the first quarter of 2020 with an operating profit of KRW 1.1 trillion. Sales are expected to be 1.2 percent lower than the same quarter last year with operating income increasing 21.1 percent year-on-year. These figures are the tentative consolidated earnings based on K-IFRS provided as a service to investors prior to LG Electronics’ final earnings results including net profit.

Sony’s DualSense PS5 Controller first look unveiled: 6 features you must check out

0

Bidding goodbye to the DualShock 4 wireless controller that was launched along with PS4 in 2013, Sony has now showcased the first look of the DualSense wireless controller for PlayStation5 to the gaming community. Asserting that the new controller will deliver a new feeling of immersion to players, a blog post by PlayStation claimed that the DualSense comes with the PS5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech, Powerful sensations, Strong-battery life, Built-in microphone array, Adaptive Triggers and Create Button feature.

“DualSense marks a radical departure from our previous controller offerings and captures just how strongly we feel about making a generational leap with PS5. The new controller, along with the many innovative features in PS5, will be transformative for games – continuing our mission at PlayStation to push the boundaries of play, now and in the future,” said Jim Ryan, President & CEO, Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Now let’s take a detailed look at the features of the DualSense wireless controller for PlayStation5. Check it out:

Powerful sensations

After thoughtful consideration, Sony decided to keep much of what gamers love about DualShock 4 intact, while also adding new functionality and refining the design. Based on the discussions with developers, PlayStation makers found that the sense of touch within gameplay, much like audio, hasn’t been a big focus for many games. Therefore, Sony leveraged on the opportunity with PS5 to innovate by offering game creators the ability to explore how they can heighten that feeling of immersion through the new controller. That is why it added a variety of powerful sensations which one can feel when playing, such as the slow grittiness of driving a car through mud.

Adaptive Triggers

Sony has also incorporated adaptive triggers into the L2 and R2 buttons of DualSense so the gamers can truly feel the tension of their actions, like when drawing a bow to shoot an arrow. According to Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President, Platform Planning & Management at PlayStation, “With adaptive triggers, we had to consider how the components would fit into the hardware, without giving it a bulky feeling. Our design team worked closely with our hardware engineers to place the triggers and actuators. The designers were then able to draw the lines of how the exterior of the controller would look and feel, with a challenge of making the controller feel smaller than it really looks. In the end, we changed the angle of the hand triggers and also made some subtle updates to the grip.”

Strong battery life

In order to provide the gamers with a strong battery life for a flawless gaming experience, PlayStation has revealed that the DualSense wireless for PS5 comes fitted with rechargeable battery in order to lessen the weight of the controller as much as possible.

Create button feature

As far as buttons are concerned, users will notice there is no longer a “Share” button as they must have seen in the DualShock 4. This time, PlayStation makers have come out with a new “Create” button feature for players to create epic gameplay content to share with the world, or just to enjoy for themselves. More details about this newly-added feature will be revealed once we inch closer to the official launch.

Built-in microphone array

DualSense also adds a built-in microphone array, which will enable players to easily chat with friends without a headset – ideal for jumping into a quick conversation. However, if you intent to chat for a longer period, it’s advisable to keep your headset handy.

Color and design

Moving on to the colour aspect, it was found that Sony took a different direction by deciding on a two-toned design. Besides this, the position of the light bar was also changed as it now sits at each side of the touch pad, giving it a slightly larger look and feel as against what was seen in the DualShock 4.

The DualSense wireless controller for PlayStation5 has been tested by a wide range of gamers with a variety of hand sizes in order to provide great ergonomics. According to the official blog post, Sony claims that “Our goal with DualSense is to give gamers the feeling of being transported into the game world as soon as they open the box. We want gamers to feel like the controller is an extension of themselves when they’re playing – so much so that they forget that it’s even in their hands!”

It was further hinted that Sony could share more information about PS5, including the console design, ahead of the official launch in Holiday 2020.

Beware! Virtual-meeting apps a top target for cyber-threats: Kaspersky

0

As more and more people are staying at home during the Coronavirus outbreak, Kaspersky experts have investigated nearly 1300 files that have names similar to popular virtual-meeting applications like Zoom, Webex, and Slack.

The researchers at Kaspersky probed the threat aspect of these virtual-meeting platform to ensure that users enjoy a safe and protected environment on Zoom, Webex, and Slack. It was discovered that cyber criminals have been promoting cyber-threats under the guise of popular apps. The researchers also discovered that these threats often disguised as .lnk files for social meeting platforms.

Besides this, the researchers at Kaspersky found that DealPly and DownloadSponsor are the two most common adware and malware families. Mind you! Both DealPly and DownloadSponsor softwares can be usually seen on the screen of a user after it gets downloaded via unauthentic source. They also identified an old malicious code known as Exploit.Win32.CVE-2010-2568 that enables cyber criminals to carryout phishing attacks.

Even earlier Kaspersky had stated that not everything on the internet is suitable for younger audiences as the amount of harmful content online is increasing rapidly. To minimize the risks of their kids stumbling on inappropriate content, almost 28 percent of parents try to regulate the time children spend online. Nearly 58 percent feel that they need to control or oversee their kids’ online browsing and internet usage. Children may access such content by accident, and parental control software can minimize the risks of encountering harmful content while online.

However, Kaspersky experts also revealed that it is also the case that each parental control solution performs differently and it is not an easy task for parents to choose the right one for them. To find the best tool to protect kids using the internet, every year AV-Comparatives carries out certification tests for various parental control software vendors. To be certified, an analysed product must block at least 98 percent of pornographic websites, have no more than a few false alarms on child-friendly websites, and have no severe unresolved bugs (or design flaws) discovered during the review, the experts added.

Kaspersky Safe Kids has gained a competitive advantage over other participating vendors due to its improved content filtering technology. The technology combines several approaches that enable a high level of recognition of inappropriate content: it includes both heuristic approaches and machine learning (ML). Heuristic approaches are used when it is necessary to analyze the HTML code of a website (tables, headings, paragraphs, etc.). While with the help of machine learning, the filtering technology is enriched by the most precise heuristics.

Recently, Asus 6Z and Honor 10 Lite smartphones have received this update. Now, a latest report has revealed that the feature will be fully introduced in Oppo Reno 10x Zoom.

Once it is confirmed that your device is compatible, Android users can go to Settings > Click on Connection Settings > Open Wi-Fi calling in Android while iOS users need to open Settings > then, click on Phone > select Wi-Fi calling.
