Reliance AGM, Jio Phone 3 and Jio GigaFiber launch today: How to watch livestream and key things to know

Reliance has been a disrupter in the Indian market in the Telecom sector since it had launched Jio services in the country. Last year they gave us a glimpse of what the next level of innovation the company is working on, which will disrupt the broadband and TV industry (with Reliance Gigafibre). The Reliance annual general meeting (AGM) is set for today. Here Mukesh Ambani along with his family and team members will showcase the next level of innovations by them. Here are the key things expected to happen at the AGM and how to watch the Reliance live stream.

Jio GigaFiber tariff plans

Ever since Reliance has announced the GigaFibre internet service, other broadband players such as Airtel who have a monopoly in cities like New Delhi, have been shivering. Airtel has already posted a loss last quarter and the ailing company is ready to undergo another big blow. Since reliance has portrayed themselves as a people-first company, more and more customers have flocked to the brand. Unlike Airtel, who like most commercial organisations, are giving cheap services at an extremely high rate.

At the AGM Reliance will fully launch the Jio GigaFibre service where the company will announce the all India tariff plans. People close to Gadget Bridge have told us that the base plan will start at just Rs 500 and users will get a max of 100Mbps speed on it. The price here is much lower than the competition like ACT and Airtel who are generally charging between 600-900 Rupees depending upon the city you stay in. Also, the speed given to customers is mostly up to 40 MBPS, however, Airtel users get just 16-24Mbps. Which is why many are miffed with Airtel and might swiftly move to Reliance. Another plan worth Rs 799-999 might be revealed for users who want higher speed of up to 500Mbps with 300GB data limit per month.  The company can provide speeds of up to 1Gbps.

Reliance Jio Phone 3

Who would have thought that one can use apps like Facebook and WhatsApp in a Rs 500 phone. Well, Reliance made that possible last year and this time they are set to unveil another phone called JioPhone 3. It is slated to run KaiOS and will be supported by a MediaTek chipset. The improved feature sets of this smart feature phone are still unclear.

Free landline service

This is something reliance has been working on since years and now the network has already been laid out in major towns and cities. Sources close to Gadget Bridge have already revealed that cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata could have had this service couple of years ago, however, the company wanted to give all the three services (Internet, landline and TV) together. Reports have also come out that some users, who pre-registered, have already got the landline connection. Free landline service will come with all Jio GigaFibre plans, with free local calls.

Jio GigaTV

Reliance Triple Play plan is also on the cards where users will get Jio’s DTH services along with broadband as well as the landline service. The plan might be revealed at an initial price of Rs 600 and a FuP limit of 100GB might be put on it. After which the speed will drop down to 1-3Mbps. This will be good enough to watch SD TV at home. But for HD channels this is definitely not sufficient. Chances are 100GB limit might not be put on Jio GigaTV, but just on the broadband part of this plan.

How to watch Reliance Annual General Meeting (AGM) and launch of Jio GigaFibre

Google Maps rolling out new feature that will let the user track their impending flights and hotel bookings

Technology giant Google has started rolling out a new feature that now permits the user to view their impending fights as well as their hotel reservation despite the fact that they are traveling. Google Maps now comes with a new reservation tab within the app that can be found in the ‘Your Place’ section. In addition, Google Maps is also spreading the accessibility of the Live View feature that makes use of the Augmented Reality to improve navigation. Along with the Live View feature the company has also accumulated a new restructured Timeline feature basically allows the user to create a list of places that they can share with their family as well as friends. This will help them out to plan their journey.

By bringing fresh reservations feature Google Maps will allow the user to track their flight and hotel reservations from one place. The user can get to the new Reservations Tab by tapping on the dedicated three grey lines placed on the top left corner of the phone’s screen after which the user can tap on the Select Your Places option then selecting the Reservations Tab. This will allow the user to view their future journey like flight timings along with hotel reservations for the trip. The Technology Giant has also confirmed that the new feature will arrive on both Android as well as iOS in a little while. In addition to this, the company also said that this feature works offline on top.

The search engine giant has already made this new feature available on the Google Pixel series of smartphones after I/O 2019 conference in May this year. Starting this week the company is planning to bring this new feature to Android as well as iOS devices that will be supporting ARCore along with ARKit. The new navigation feature brings into play the Phone’s camera for the duration of the navigation process that overlays augmented reality arrows in the world around the user that will help them reach their destination. This feature works when the user chooses ‘Walking’ as their preferred means of travel in the Maps.

The newly simplified Timeline feature allows the user to view all the places that they visited some time ago. In addition to this, the feature also segregates them into groups such as restaurants, shops, attractions, hotels, and airports. These can be exported into a customised list that permits the user to note down exactly what they liked about the places and then share this list with their family and friends. However, the company has confirmed that the said feature will also arrive soon to Android devices, but it has not confirmed that yet when the feature will be rolled out for the iOS devices.

Huawei officially announces its new operating system HarmonyOS

Chinese technology brand Huawei is slowly moving ahead to become more self-reliant. The company has officially announced its new operating system called HarmonyOS that it was reported to be working on for a long time. With the new operating system, Huawei would not have to be completely dependent on Android. In the company’s home country China, the software will be called as Hongmeng.

According to the company, the operating system can be used in a number of gadgets like smartphones, smart speakers, wearables and others. Huawei will be releasing it all over the globe as an open-source platform.

A number of reports about Huawei’s in-house operating system had started circulating online when Google had paused its business with the company in May this year after the US government announced a trade ban. With this, the company’s Android license was also suspended. After that, Huawei was not very secretive about working on its own operating system.

Huawei has said that it will first be launching its HarmonyOS on “smart screen products” later this year. It has also been announced that the first of these products will be the Honor Smart Screen, which will be unveiled on Saturday. Prior to this, a report in Reuters also said that the OS will be present on a range of Honor smart TVs. Products that are being launched in China will get the operating system first and only then it will expand to other markets.

According to Huawei CEO Richard Yu, HarmonyOS is “completely different from Android and iOS,” as it has the ability to scale across various devices. He further said, “You can develop your apps once, then flexibly deploy them across a range of different devices.”

Much like Google‘s experimental Fuchsia OS, HarmonyOS will run on various form factors like smartphones and Internet of Things devices. It will also be rolled out to other devices in the next three years. As of now, the company will continue using Android on its devices. However, it is not clear till when it can continue to do this. According to a report in CNBC, the company has said that it is still “waiting on an update” to find out.

Developers would be needed to recompile their apps for Huawei’s new HarmonyOS software. According to the Chinese technology brand, they will be able to compile a range of languages into machine code in one single environment. However, as of now, there is no clarity on how easy will that be.

YouTube Premium and Music’s 3 months subscription is being given to students for free

Everyone loves to get a good service. And if there are no costs attached to it, it becomes even sweeter. YouTube has announced that the Alphabet-owned company will give 3 months subscription of its Premium and Music service to students at no costs. Generally, they give only 1-month free subscription to people. But in a tender to increase its say in the OTT online video and music content and streaming market, they are giving 3 months’ worth free subscription.

The offer is only for students at the moment and they will get 3 months free service, after which they would need to pay the regular fee like others. Companies like Amazon Prime, Netflix, Spotify and Amazon Music already have a strong foothold in many regions. YouTube wants to grow its premium market. Hence, they have taken this decision. The deal includes where students would need to sign up for a fee of USD 6.99 (Rs 490 approximately) per month. Here the first three months are given as free.

YouTube in a statement said, “Attention: Students, for a limited time, new members can enjoy three months of the #YouTubeMusic Premium or @YouTubePremium student plan in select territories, on us. Let us know what you’re playing to get #BacktoSchool,”

For the unknown, YouTube premium gives its users ad-free watching experience, in which users can also download videos to watch later in Full HD (1080p) resolution. Similarly, YouTube music also gives users an ad-free experience and one can also download music in this service. The package is very similar to Amazon Music and Spotify. With this the company aims to increase its userbase and get new customers to start using its service.

As said, right now the market is being led by Netflix and Amazon Prime. Both of which have great local and international content. Which is being updated very rapidly. So, according to us the task for YouTube premium is tough. They might also want to lower the prices since some of its competition has already done that for emerging markets like India.

Apple is now locking down its batteries making it difficult to be repaired

The Cupertino-based technology giant Apple will put a stop to third-party battery replacement on a small number of its iPhone devices. From now onwards the users of the premium smartphone are required to replace their batteries from the authorized Apple service providers only. The company is supposed to discontinue the batteries with a software switch. Furthermore, if the user makes their mind up to replace the battery on their own or through other ways it will show an error message about the battery’s fitness on the screen of the device. Currently, the latest battery confinement is alleged active on various iPhone devices such as iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max as well.

This new development was first discovered by a YouTuber named Justin. Through his videos, he demonstrated the error message displayed on the screen of an Apple’s device when he replaced an iPhone XR battery with an unauthorized Apple battery by himself. Subsequent to this when it was restored to the genuine battery, the phone still displayed the ‘service’ error in the Battery Health section. What’s more, the Battery Health section showed an additional message that interpreted, “Unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple battery. Health information not available for this battery.”

The said error message appeared immediately after the user reinstates the authorized Apple battery. The user cannot by themselves withdraw the error message unless he/she gets the battery stand-in through an Apple Authorised Service Provider or else Apple Genius store.

According to the YouTuber, the company has done this so as to bind the users to compensate Apple for restoring the batteries. In addition to this, he revealed that the reason behind this is the Texas Instruments microcontroller that too has the certification mark.

According to ifixit, Apple uses its own proprietary version, but pretty much all smartphone batteries have some version of this chip. The chip used in newer iPhone batteries includes an authentication feature that stores the info for pairing the battery to the iPhone’s logic board. In simple terms, if the battery doesn’t have the unique authentication key the iPhone’s logic board is expecting, you’ll get that “Service” message. Technically, it is possible to remove the microcontroller chip from the original battery and carefully solder it into the new battery you’re swapping in, restoring the Battery Health feature—but the procedure isn’t for the faint of heart, and it’s an unreasonable requirement for any repair, much less something as simple as a battery swap. After this, the user will not be able to view its battery’s health and know when it’s time to replace it.

“Then again, this is a huge problem for iPhone owners who may not know about this new, sneaky lockdown, and it will undoubtedly cause confusion: they’ll replace their own battery and notice the “Service” message, then begin troubleshooting a problem that isn’t there. By doing this Apple is making the repair more and more intricate.

Google realised that users prefer three button navigation more than gestures mode

Google has introduced new navigation gestures in its latest Android Q update. The new navigation mode allows the user to navigate back left/right edge swipe, to the home screen swipe up from the bottom as well as activate the device assistant by swiping in from the bottom corners with the use of gestures instead of using buttons.

The company stated that bringing in a gesture model meant that the system navigation can endow an additional number of the screen to apps. By doing this they can provide a new improved immersive experience.

The company has also explained why the gesture navigation model is much better than a three-button system. According to the company, gestures are faster as well as natural and designed for efficiency and comfort in the working environment to navigate the device. Secondly, the gestures are more planned rather than software buttons that allow the user to activate simply by grabbing their mobile phone. Thirdly, gestures facilitate an additional immersive practice in favour of apps by reducing how much the system draws in excess of app content. For instance, HOME/BACK buttons and the bar they assemble on particularly the hardware drifts to bigger screens as well as smaller bezels.

However, the company further said that during the development it was a bit tricky as they came across many issues associated with gesture modes. It realised that the gestures do not work for every user. Secondly, Gestures can at times be harder to become skilled at and can take some adjustment. Thirdly, Gestures can get in the way of an app’s navigation pattern.

Google stated in its blog, “But most of all, we realized that there was a larger issue of fragmentation when different Android phones had different gestures, especially for Android developers. Over the last year, we worked with partners like Samsung, Xiaomi, HMD Global, OPPO, OnePlus, LG, Motorola, and many others to standardize gesture navigation going forward. To ensure a consistent user and developer experience, the Android Q gestures will be the default gesture navigation for new Q+ devices. Understanding that these gestures don’t work for every user, especially those with more limited dexterity and mobility, three-button navigation will continue to be an option on every Android device.”

The earlier versions of Android Q did not include the preference to return to three-button navigation. Later, in the beta version, the system gave a choice to go back to either two-button or three-button navigation. The stable version of the Android Q will have the benefit of switching back to the three-button navigation. This can be done by going to Settings > System > Gestures > System navigation to hit upon the option. However, previously the Google Pixel 3 users were strained to make use of the gesture navigation. Now the Pixel 3 consumers will also be benefited from the back button option.

Motorola One Zoom will be featuring quad rear camera set up: New renders

Few months ago, in April, renders surfaced on the internet reveals that the Lenovo owned company Motorola is working on a phone with quad rear cameras. Again press renders appeared online that revealed more information with regards to the anticipated device. According to the renders, the device is speculated to be called Motorola One Pro. As per the latest update, fresh details appeared that reveals that the said device will be launched as Motorola One Zoom and not the previous name that was earlier rumoured.

As per Winfuture.de report, the said smartphone that is rumoured to arrive with name Motorola One Zoom will be featuring a 6.2-inch display screen along with a notch for the selfie camera.  The anticipated smartphone will miss the 21:9 aspect ratio that the One Vision features. One Zoom has an AMOLED display as well as it sports a fingerprint scanner on the rear panel.

Motorola One Zoom is expected to feature a 48MP camera that makes use of Quad Pixel technology. This is identical to the same camera sensors that have been used in Motorola One Vision. Additionally, the other two sensors come with an image stabilisation feature, as well. But the company has not yet confirmed if the smartphone will either feature a telephoto camera or the ultra-wide-angle camera equipped with optical image stabilisation. For the unknown, the ultra-wide-angle camera is used for super wide-angle photography, on the other hand, the telephoto zoom lens offers up to 5X hybrid zoom.

Now coming on the design the Motorola One Zoom comes with a textured power button that is placed on the right side of the device. Above the power button the volume rocker has been placed that has antenna lines on top as well as the bottom. As per the reports, the said device is expected to come up with a 3.5mm audio jack along with USB Type C port. Moreover, height and the thickness on the device hint that it will be equipped with a larger battery but the capacity has not been revealed as of now. The phone runs on Android Pie. Android mobile phones are prone to a threat that allows hackers to use their WIFI network to hack their devices

According to new security research almost all the Android devices are at risk of being hacked with the use of Wi-Fi. The hackers simply make use of the Wi-Fi connection to hack your Android mobile phones.

These days more or less all smartphones are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors. These processors are more vulnerable to the risk that consent to hackers to get hold of the mobile phones only by connecting to the same Wi-Fi set-up that is being used by the user. As a result of this million handsets that have been powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor are susceptible to the threat.

According to Tencent Blade QualPwn is a chain of vulnerabilities discovered in Qualcomm chips. One of them permits the hackers to find the middle ground to WLAN and Modem over-the-air. And the other gives consent to the attackers to get hold of the Android Kernel from the WLAN chip. They all together take advantage of the chain of vulnerabilities to compromise the Android Kernel over-the-air in a number of conditions. This means once the attacker gets connected the third-parties can be allowed to fling malevolent data packets over-the-air. After that, it runs a code that towards the end makes way into the victim’s device by getting full control.

In addition to this, Tencent Blade made this clear that it did not test all the Qualcomm chips. The report says, “We only tested on the Google Pixel2/Pixel3. Results of our tests indicate that unpatched phones running on Qualcomm Snapdragon 835,845 may be vulnerable.”

It has also reported the details to Google and Qualcomm. However, both the companies stated that they have issued fixes. Qualcomm has taken this issue into its consideration and it released a security patch to OEMs on 2019-6-03 unfolding the concern and appealed the OEMs to download and integrate suitable patches.

With regard to this issue, Qualcomm also issued its statement, “Providing technologies that support robust security and privacy is a priority for Qualcomm. We commend the security researchers from Tencent for using industry-standard coordinated disclosure practices through our Vulnerability Rewards Program. Qualcomm Technologies has already issued fixes to OEMs, and we encourage end-users to update their devices as patches become available from OEMs.”

Realme 64MP smartphone’s image surfaces online

In Beijing, at a Global event, Xiaomi displayed its first 64MP smartphone imaging technology. Now Realme has teased its upcoming smartphone. This time the Chinese company has shared an image of the said device that reveals it’s back panel’s design that gives us a hint of how the new handset will look like. However, the company has only shared the image showcasing the back panel of the device that features four cameras set up, nothing else.

Realme India CEO Madhav Seth shared the exclusive image of the 64MP smartphone on the hid Twitter account even before the company officially showcased the upcoming camera. The image shared by him gives you an idea about how the new smartphone will look like. The handset is roofed in a back cover that does not reveal much about the blueprint of the smartphone.

In addition to this, it only discloses the camera set up. The 64MP smartphone will be featuring a quad-camera set up arrange vertically. On top, it shows a 64MP camera sensor, however, we did not get a glimpse of the rear fingerprint sensor. As we move on we can surely steal a look of the colour option the phone will be available in that can be seen clearly peeping out of the smartphone’s back cover. We can easily guess that the company will bring the handset in three colour variants in the shades of blue.

CEO Madhav Seth’s tweet says, “Get ready for the world’s first hands-on experience of #64MP Quad Camera on a smartphone, tomorrow at the #realme camera innovation event. Stay Real, No Hype. #LeapToQuadCamera

in the intervening time, the CEO also changed his Twitter handle’s name to Madhav ‘5’ Quad. The number 5 mentioned in the name hints that the upcoming 64MP smartphone will be identified as Realme 5 or it may be anticipated to be named as Realme 5 Pro. Moreover, the Quad in the name tipped off to be available with a quad-camera set up.

However, the company has by now confirmed that the quad-camera set up will feature a 64MP camera set up. The new smartphone will be equipped with Samsung’s ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor that the South Korean company announced a few months ago (in the month of May) this year.

Samsung’s ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor offers 64MP photos with a resolution of 9,248 x 6,936 pixels. That comes with the support for HDR of up to 100-decibels. The latest sensor ISOCELL Bright GW1 can click 64MP photos using Samsung’s Tetracell technology by merging four pixels into one. The latest sensor also employs a 0.8μm-sized pixel and it has the ability to capture more light with its large sensors.

Twitter found testing Snooze feature in the push notification tab

0

Microblogging website Twitter has started testing a new feature called Snooze that will allow its user to the mute notification within the app for a certain period of time.

This new development was first discovered by Jane Manchun Wong, she is famous for discovering features on social media applications that have not been released. She found the new change on Twitter when she observed a code under Twitter’s Android App. According to Wong, the snooze feature is being setas a bell icon on the top right corner of the notifications tab. When the user taps the bell button the app will open up a bottom sheet with Snooze duration options.

When the user selects the preferred snooze duration, Twitter will stop sending push notifications for a specific time period. However, the notifications will still show in the Notification tab. The user can at all times tap the button to unsnooze or else increase or decrease the snooze duration as per their choice. While Wong is waiting for the social networking platform to comment on the new changes, the app code specifies that Twitter has started testing the new feature.

Wong revealed in her blog post, “Seeing the blue circle of push notifications popping up our Twitter app often sparks joy. For example, when your tweet went viral, your phone might keep buzzing nonstop. Sometimes, there might be a desire to pause the stream of push notifications on Twitter. Now Twitter has a ‘Snooze’ button that lets you pause push notifications for a specific amount of time,”

For the unknown, Twitter has also updated its web interface. The upgraded platform now offers a more customisable option to its users as well as it also reshuffles the navigation experience on the social media platform. The redesigned platform for desktop version looks identical to its mobile app. The biggest change that it receives is that now it includes a bar on the top left sidebar. The navigation bar comprises of the bookmarks, lists and user’s profile. In addition to this, a new ‘Explore’ tab has also been introduced within the desktop version that will display more live videos and personalised local trends.

The micro-blogging website gave a new makeover to the Direct Messages, it now displays the chats as well as messages sent by the user in the same window. The desktop version now also gets various themes and colours as well and it comes with more options for the Dark Mode, too.

Apple will now limit Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp’s calling feature

In a new development, the premium smartphone company Apple in order to protect its user’s privacy will confine Facebook as well as other messaging apps calling feature. This will be done by making some minor changes into its mobile operating system.

The new change will now limit a calling feature that the instant messaging apps like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp employ to make a voice call while using the internet. The calling feature in these apps run in the background even when it’s not in use. This feature helps the apps to connect the calls quicker while it performs other tasks such as collecting data. From now onwards the company will now switch the background admittance that will only be allowed to make internet calls. Apple will bring this new change in the September rollout of iOS 13, its latest mobile operating system.

As per a report by The Information, the latest change will pressurize the messaging providers to reformat their apps. Facebook has been using the calling feature in a number of other ways like applying end-to-end encryption.

A Facebook spokesperson denied the allegation made by Apple he also stated that, “The changes to the upcoming iOS releases are not insignificant, but we are in conversations with Apple on how best to address,” He further added  “To be clear—we are using the PushKit VoIP API to deliver a world-class, private messaging experience, not for the purpose of collecting data.”

Many app developers depend on Voice over Internet Protocol or VoIP technology for making voice calls. But Facebook Messenger, as well as WhatsApp, uses the feature that allows it to collect the user’s data while running in the background. Besides this sucks up system resources and shortening battery life.

To protect the privacy and to improve the performance of its smartphones Apple will bring a change to the internet calling feature, soon. In the past, Apple has brought various features to protect user privacy in the software running on its devices. The company will ramp up its privacy by rolling out a new feature to curb this problem. iOS 13 exclusively is strong when it comes to privacy by limiting the location tracking apps. During the Worldwide Developers Conference, the company also came up with “Sign in with Apple,” specifically designed for privacy in competition with Google and Facebook.

Previously the company targeted the Social Media Platform Facebook by restricting its facility to distribute iOS apps to its workers, who further use this for testing purposes.
