To recall, American chipmaker Qualcomm had announced that its Quick Charge fast charging technology will now also work with wireless power as well. The company also said that Quick Charge technology for wireless power will quicken the charging process on charging pads. But then, for this, the charging pads would also have to meet certain requirements and standards.
The American chipmaker has also added that charging pads will able to deliver speedy electricity with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge support, and that too in a ‘consistent and safety conscious’ way.
Qualcomm also explained about the technology on its blog saying, “Wireless charging pads powered by Quick Charge will work with the same Quick Charge 2.0, 3.0, 4 and 4+ adapters that millions of users already have at home, work, and elsewhere.”

To look at it, laptops have not evolved much over the last decade or so when it comes to design. Yes, we do see improvements but nothing is ground-breaking when it comes to the exteriors. Companies try to do their bit by tweaking or making the exteriors more desirable. Two in ones or convertibles are also popular, but that is about it.
However, on the other side, the insides get a boost every year and that makes all the difference. HP has been an uncompromising partner of Intel since years, however now they have picked up AMD for the latest Envy x360 convertible laptops. Which made us wonder, will the HP Envy x360 laptop deliver the same kind of performance, which we have seen Intel chipsets do over so many years? Let’s find out in the rest of the review.
In This Article
Design and Display
HP has never been a bystander when it comes to the form factor of its laptops. They make sure, they give something extra to the user, even if it is a budget laptop. And with the HP Envy x360, the bar has been set quite high. Yes, it does remind us of the Spectre series in some ways, but there are quite a few differences between the two.
Let’s talk about its exteriors first. The HP Envy x360 has a metal body and the 13.3-inch touchscreen has the capability to flip all the way over since it is a convertible laptop. So, users can use it like a normal laptop or a tablet. Which means you will be touching the screen a lot, this means a lot of fingerprints? Well no, HP does bundle a neat stylus in the box which will not leave any smudges on the device.
The keyboard is backlit and is quite comfortable to work with. We did spend a few days working on text documents on it and not once felt fatigued. The sound is powered by Bang and Olufsen. The array of speakers can be found right above the keyboard placed under a metal mesh. We somehow have always been in favour of top firing speakers, the sound does not get muffled if you are watching something and the laptop is kept on a soft surface.
Overall, the design of the laptop is great and one can easily see the craft put in it. The HP logo on the metal lid adds to the show. Also, the laptop has a fairly large trackpad for a notebook this size. As for the ports, the HP Envy x360 has quite a few of them. The right side brings a USB 3.0, USB Type-C ports along with the volume button. While on the left HP has placed a 3.5mm audio port, USB 3.1 port, a microSD card reader and the power button.
Though there is no fingerprint reader to unlock the device, HP has added an HD webcam with an IR camera on the top lid. This enables users to face unlock the device. We tried it and the face unlock feature works really well on the HP Envy x360. Nine out of ten times we were able to open the notebook, using it, under a second.
Performance
Like we said earlier, the HP Envy x360 is powered by an AMD Ryzen 5 CPU, so we had our qualms about its performance. Before we give you the lowdown of its achievement and how it fared on the test bench, let us quickly run you through the technical specifications of the HP Envy x360. Powered by AMD Ryzen 5 2500U CPU with clock speed of up to 3.6GHz and 6MB cache, this notebook also has 8GB DDR4 RAM and 256GB SSD.
The graphics are powered by AMD Vega 8 GPU. The 13.3-inch FHD IPS display is WLED backlit and supports full HD resolution (1,920×1,080). The machine also has Bluetooth V4.2 and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2×2). Miracast is also supported and the HP Envy x360 comes with a 4 cell battery inside that gave us a decent 5.5 hours of battery life (under above nominal use).
Let’s talk about the benchmarks next, we ran 3D Mark Firestrike test on the laptop first to check out its graphical performance and to our amazement, it is right up there with the big boys. It scored 2,481 marks on it. On PC Mark it scored 2,788 mark, which compared to the 8th gen Intel Core i5 CPU’s is almost neck to neck.
Now, on to the real-time tests. We ran games like PUBG and GTA V on it at high settings and we did face a bit of lag there. So we didn’t move on to the ultra-high settings. However, games like DOTA 2 and CS:GO worked really well. Though not built for gaming, we did like the gaming experience especially because it has a wonderful set of speakers and a really vivid touch display.
Talking about which, we loved the movie watching and YouTube experience on this device. The HP Envy x360 does perfect justice to moving pictures. 4K videos also look good on it and rarely will you see a frame skip. The typing and work experience on this notebook was also not bad. The large keyboard and the multi-touch trackpad respond well and one can work on it for a very long time.
As for the operating system, the HP Envy x360 comes with Windows 10 64 bit edition and it works without a flaw. Everything is slick and with the touch display, the experience is very refined, no matter how you are using this convertible (laptop or tablet mode). The stylus is a good addition and is not too bad to hold and use. Though many times we just tapped the screen. However, designers will love its inclusion in the pack.
Verdict and Final Words
Looking at the price of Rs 77,990, one does wonder first would an Intel laptop be better. But after using it for a little while we came to the conclusion absolutely not. The performance is right up there, yes you do miss a dedicated graphics card, although this laptop is not built for gaming but for excellent professional use. It looks great, is comfortable to work with, the screen folds all the way around and you can use it as a tablet. Yes, there is a quite a bit of bloatware found on the HP Envy x360, which was a pain to get rid of. At this price, one would not want to see that. A stock Windows is what one wants to play with at first.
Pros:
Good screen and performance
Well-built
Excellent sound
Cons:
Price for an AMD device
Bloatware

Chinese smartphone brand Oppo’s Vice President Brian Shen has revealed that the company’s next flagship smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 processor. Dubbed Oppo Find Z, the upcoming flagship device is the successor of last year’s Find X smartphone and is confirmed to come with a 10X hybrid optical zoom camera.
Shen took to Chinese social networking platform Weibo to confirm this news. We should also add here that at recently concluded Mobile World Congress 2019, Oppo showcased its 10x lossless zoom smartphone camera tech and also announced its 5G smartphone during the tech show. The Chinese smartphone maker also said that it will be using Snapdragon 855 SoC in its 5G smartphone. Now, it is being speculated that the company was talking about the 5G variant of Find Z itself.
Coming back to Shen’s post on Weibo, he has revealed that Oppo’s upcoming flagship smartphone will come with a 10x hybrid optical zoom and house a 4,065mAh battery. At MWC 2019, when the company launched its 10x lossless zoom smartphone camera technology, Oppo said that it will be integrated into a smartphone model that will be released by the company during Q2 2019.
To recall, the 10x lossless optical zoom technology that was showcased last month came with a triple rear camera setup that comprises of a 160mm focal length telephoto lens that comes with a periscope-style structure. The setup has a 48MP primary sensor and a 16mm focal length 120-degree ultra-wide-angle sensor. It would be safe to assume that sensors with the same configuration will be a part of the next Oppo flagship.
In another post on Weibo, Shen has also said that the appearance of the new flagship smartphone would not be like the one we have seen on existing models. However, he did not specify how it will be different.
The Chinese smartphone brand had launched the Oppo Find X smartphone last year that comes with a slider mechanism. But then, we can now look forward to seeing a new form factor of the smartphone’s successor.
We should point out that in the Weibo posts, there is no information on the launch date of the new flagship smartphone. However, it has earlier been teased that the next Oppo flagship would be unveiled in April this year.

The most expensive car in the world has just been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show by French luxury brand Bugatti. The company has showcased its La Voiture Noire, which basically means ‘The Black Car’ and is supposed to be a Chiron-based tribute to the iconic Type 57 SC Atlantic.
Bugatti La Voiture Noire costs a whopping €11 million or US$12.3 million and was sold even before the covers were ripped off at the motor show. This makes La Voiture Noire the most expensive car of all time.
However, that is not all that it cost eventually, as on adding luxury taxes, the price of the newly launched Bugatti La Voiture Noire went up to €16.7 million, which is around $18.7 million. When converted to Indian Rupee, the price becomes more than Rs 130 crore. Some may even find the pricing to be insane, but then great luxury often comes with an exorbitant price tag.
Speaking about the one-off La Voiture Noire, Stephan Winkelmann, Bugatti President said, “La Voiture Noire is a far more than a modern interpretation of Jean Bugatti’s Type 57 SC Atlantic. It is a feast of aesthetics. The true form of luxury is individuality. ‘La Voiture Noire’ is now at the cutting edge of automobile production.”
Coming to the capabilities of the car, Bugatti’s La Voiture Noire packs an 8-liter engine that comprises of 16 cylinders. Together, they can produce a 1,479 horsepower (1,103 kW) and the torque hoes up to 1,180 pound-feet (1,600 Nm).
We should add here that this is the iconic W16 that has remained at the heart of the luxury brand in recent years. However, to ensure that La Voiture Noire has an edge over others, it has been revamped.
Besides its exquisite bodywork and black finish, La Voiture Noire’s wheelbase is also slightly longer than that of the Chiron.
It is being speculated that the luxury brand also made changes to the car’s suspension, however, there is no official word on it as of now. But it does seem likely that the company also added some changes with focus on comfortable cruising.
In November last year, Facebook was identified with a vulnerability which could let the hackers get private information about Facebook users and their friends by accessing company API in an unauthorized manner.
And now, the same vulnerability has been found in Facebook’s Messenger app. Exploiting this vulnerability, a hacker can use ‘any website to expose who you have been messaging with’. The bug was identified by Israel’s security research group, Imperva which earlier had identified the Facebook’s bug as well. Facebook’s bug was fixed and patched by the company.
The bug in Messenger would let any hacker extract personal user data if the user had visited any malicious website on Google Chrome and clicked on the website while being logged onto Facebook. This would give the hackers access to run any queries on a new Facebook tab from where they could extract the user’s personal data.
After the research group told the social networking giant, Facebook tried to fix the problem by randomizing iframe elements. But later Imperva pointed out that the fix couldn’t rectify the issue entirely as any hacker could design an algorithm that would let him access to the user’s contacts. After that, Facebook removed the iframes from Messenger. The company told The Verge that they appreciate the researcher’s submission to their bug bounty program. The issue in his report stems from the way web browsers handle content embedded in webpages and is not specific to Facebook.
While the Imperva researcher, Ron Masas wrote in his report, “Browser-based side channel attacks are still an overlooked subject. While big players like Facebook and Google are catching up, most of the industry is still unaware.”
Although it is not the first time Facebook has come in news for the wrong reason. Since the beginning of last year, the social networking platform faced constant fire from users and government for user privacy violation and storing user data without their consent. In February 2019, Facebook was criticised when it was found out that the company was paying teenagers and youngsters for letting it monitor their internet usage. Last year, millions of user’s data had been leaked due to a data breach on Facebook. And earlier this week we found out that Facebook isn’t letting its user hide their phone numbers from public eyes. For a company whose goal is to provide “privacy-focused communications platform”, Facebook is failing miserably.
Home-renting company Airbnb, which has garnered popularity across the globe, has acquired HotelTonight, which is an app for finding hotel rooms at discounted rates. With this move, Airbnb has gone deeper into hotel-booking business and it will be attracting a number of more travellers.
With the deal that has been finalised between Airbnb and HotelTonight, the former’s inventory has expanded tremendously as the number of hotel listings on its platform will be going up. Furthermore, it will get onboard a number of travellers who are not very comfortable staying at a stranger’s home during their vacation.
But we can say that with this acquisition, Airbnb is now a more direct competition to like the likes of Expedia Group and Priceline. Airbnb has not as yet disclosed the value of the deal. However, we should point out that HotelTonight was valued at $463 million in 2017 after it raised a funding of $115 million.
We should also add that Airbnb’s CEO Brian Chesky has called the acquisition “a big part of building an end-to-end travel platform.”
Before this, the company had already added guided tours and activities to its app, followed by luxury homes and restaurant reservations and is soon speculated to add transportation services. Last year, it also did the required changed to make it easier for boutique hotels and bed-and-breakfasts to list their rooms on the company’s website and app.
In fact, 2018 also saw Airbnb double the number of available rooms in hotels, resorts, hostels and hence, the hotel bookings on the platform went up by three times as compared to 2017, according to the company.
As far as HotelTonight goes, the key highlight of the app is last-minute booking. The company tracks unsold inventory from hotels and offers it at discounted rates to travellers who require the room for short durations of time. Although it started as a platform for same-day room booking, it now lets users book for rooms months in advance.
HotelTonight’s listing has names like Sheraton and Hyatt. Airbnb has confirmed that the two platforms would not merge and would continue to operate as different websites and apps.
With this acquisition, it is evident that Airbnb has started focussing on hotel bookings too, so we can expect to see more deals that the company may have planned across the globe. In India, a deal between Airbnb and its local rival Oyo Rooms can be speculated.
Since October 2018, Windows 10 has reportedly been facing issues after receiving updates and patches. And now, with the recent update for Windows 10, the issues seem to have increased instead of decreasing. Windows 10 latest update with build number KB4482887 was pushed out by Microsoft on March 1, 2019. This new update is an upgrade to the previous version of Windows 10 with build 17763.348 and was claimed to come with lots of improvements and fixes of previous issues.
But even the latest update from Windows 10 is not free from flaws as it brings its own set of issues to the Windows 10 operating system. Users of the latest version of Windows 10 reported that after the update, their computer has started giving them trouble with gaming as they started experiencing lag and difficulty when playing games. While gaming seems to be the primary issue, other performance-related problems have been reported about too.
Users took the issue to the Reddit community to write about the issues they were facing to see if anyone could find a solution or if they were the only ones facing such problems. Many users on Reddit reported a sudden drop in the frames of games that they tried playing, and some even said that the frames went from 60fps to below 35fps. High fps (frames-per-second) is the main reason some people like to play games on PC rather than a console as most consoles don’t offer the same level of frames and graphics as a PC does. But with this new update, the gaming community of PC is baffled thinking if it’s a hardware problem or if it is related to the software.
Another Reddit user took the time to find and identify the type of bugs and issues that the latest update of Windows 10 brought with it. According to him, lowered general performance while gaming, extreme stuttering, long mouse input lag, extreme frame drops, sound lag were the major issues that the latest update of Windows 10 had. This issue was replied by a Windows Kernal engineer saying that the only thing to do now was to report the problems the users were facing to the Feedback Hub until an official fix arrives.

Apple’s contract manufacturer in India, Wistron has received approval of Rs 5,000 crore plan to make high-end Apple devices in the country. This is a big push towards the government’s Make in India initiative and will result in reducing the cost of Apple flagships in India.
We should point out that Wistron, already makes iPhone models like the iPhone SE in India at an assembly unit in Bengaluru. With the approval coming from the IT ministry, the Taiwanese contract manufacturer will be able to manufacture newer iPhone models in the country too.
Speaking about the development, IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told The Economic Times in an interview, “We have just approved Wistron’s Rs 5,091-crore application and it is with the Cabinet now… Wistron will make the latest iPhone models.” Furthermore, he confirmed that iPhone-manufacturer Foxconn has also submitted an application for a Rs 2,500-crore project in India last year on December 31.
Prasad also spoke about the additional incentives offered by China and said that the government is not perturbed by it as India has certain advantages that China cannot offer. “Openness of India’s democratic polity, where creativity is recognised and respected, adds its own incentive. We gave little incentive and you saw how many people came,” said Prasad.
The minister went on to say that as an electronics manufacturing hub, India has certain advantages including a burgeoning workforce, English fluency, and skilled workers in large numbers. Also, the fact that India is the fastest growing smartphone market in the world also makes it more lucrative for smartphone makers and contract manufacturers to get production to India.
Prasad also spoke about the government’s announcement about software products policy saying, “government will lend full support to software product makers, including protection of intellectual property rights (IPR). Chinese smartphone brand Huawei has silently launched its P Smart+ (2019) handset. We should mention that the newly launched Huawei P Smart+ (2019) smartphone is very similar to the P Smart (2019) that was launched by the company earlier this year.
Much like P Smart (2019) handset, Huawei P Smart+ (2019) sports a 6.21-inch display with a waterdrop-shaped notch, packs a 3,400mAh battery and is powered by the company’s own Kirin 710 SoC. As far as the differences are considered, the Huawei P Smart+ (2019) features a triple rear camera setup, whereas P Smart (2019) has a dual camera setup.
We should add that Huawei P Smart+ (2019) has surfaced on the company’s official website and it is speculated to go on sale in the next few weeks around the world. As of now, there is no word from the company about the new device‘s pricing, but we expect it to cost more than Huawei P Smart (2019) which came with a price tag of EUR 249.
Huawei P Smart+ (2019) specifications
Coming to the detailed specifications of the Huawei P Smart+ (2019) smartphone, it sports a triple rear camera setup that comprises of a 24MP primary sensor, 2MP depth sensor and a 16MP ultra wide angle sensor. For selfies and video calls, there is an 8MP front-facing snapper that is housed in the waterdrop-shaped notch on the smartphone. The device’s cameras come with AI enhancements which, according to Huawei, can identify over 500 scenes and 22 categories.
The handset has a 6.21-inch display that comes with a dewdrop notch on the top and houses a fingerprint scanner on its back panel. Powered by Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 710 processor that comes with four A73 cores and four A53 cores, Huawei P Smart+ (2019) houses 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The handset can hold a microSD card of up to 512GB.
The newly-launched device runs Android 9.0 Pie skinned with the company’s own EMUI 9. Huawei P Smart+ (2019) will be available in Starlight Blue and Midnight Black colours. The handset’s dimensions are 155.2×73.4×7.95mm and it weighs about 160 grams.
After the launch of Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, which is the world’s first 5G ready smartphone CPU, MediaTek is also planning to unveil a chipset that will enable 5G connectivity. MediaTek recently revealed that is it working on a CPU built on the 7nm manufacturing process which will support 5G networks. The chipset is still being worked upon but it will be placed above the company’s Helio P90 SoC and will be used in high-end smartphones.
Although currently, there is no word on the release date of the 7nm CPU from MediaTek, it is said that the company may unveil it in the coming months of 2019. When launched, the new processor will compete against Snapdragon 855 SoC, which is Qualcomm’s current flagship processor.
Finbarr Moynihan, MediaTek’s vice president of corporate sales and business development for the Americas and Europe told Android Authority that the company was working on a smartphone processor built on the 7nm process. He also said that the new CPU will be powering ‘high-end phones’ and will be better in terms of performance and features than the Helio P90 CPU which runs on the 12nm process. Furthermore, Kevin Keating, MediaTek’s director of global public relations, also confirmed that the upcoming CPU from MediaTek would offer 5G capabilities. But the upcoming CPU from MediaTek’s launch dates has not been revealed by the company or its executives.
Finbarr Moynihan said “I think you’ll see something moving up-tier from us. How we brand it and what it shows up as I’m not sure. But you’ll certainly see more high-end capability than, say, we’ve exhibited on the P90.”
Along with the new unnamed CPU, MediaTek also has its Helio M70 5G baseband chipset which it showcased earlier in December 2018. The chipset was announced at Computex 2018 and it too is based on TSMC’s 7nm process. The Helio M70 5G has a transfer speed of 5Gbps and it supports 5G NR (New Radio). This chipset will be availed to the smartphone manufacturers in the later months of 2019 and it will be integrated into smartphones from 2020. So next year, we can expect to see a competitive run in the 5G connectivity between CPU manufacturers along with smartphones.

If there is one thing that Truecaller is known for, it is for filtering out spam calls. Most people have the app installed simply to keep spammers away and to identify unknown phone numbers so that they can decide if they want to answer the incoming call or not.
On International Women’s Day, Truecaller has launched its #ItsNotOK campaign against women harassment. According to data shared by the Sweden-based caller identification app, twenty-eight percent of women in Delhi have reported receiving harassment calls and SMSes every week. We should mention that this is the highest in India, compared to any other state.
In Truecaller’s report that is named ‘Understanding Impact of Harassment Spam Calls and SMS for Women’, one in three women continue to receive calls and SMSes that are not inappropriate.
Lindsey LaMont, Global Brand Manager, Truecaller, said in a statement, “Sexual harassment through messages and calls is a worldwide issue that has not been addressed. Our campaign is to bring awareness around the issue, to encourage discussion, and to make a societal impact that this behaviour is not okay.”
The report further added that 78% of women have said that they feel angry or irritated by harassment calls and over 37% feel troubled, worried or frightened because of these calls and messages.
According to Truecaller’s report, 52% of the women receive unknown calls and SMSes that contain inappropriate content at least once every week.
That’s not all. The report by Truecaller also said that most of the women who were a part of this survey have received unprecedented phishing calls and among them, at least 53% have got calls from fraudsters who have tried to collect sensitive personal data. Shockingly, 8% of the women who were a part of this study said that they receive counterfeit calls almost every day.
“While the report factually tells the story, shooting with real women gave us a sense of pain, anger & shamefulness most of them felt despite being mature confident individuals. It was truly eye-opening to see how contaminated our mobile numbers really are, as these interviews unravelled. We hope this will bring more awareness to the vulnerability a woman faces in her daily life,” says Gayatri Sethi, Business Head, WhiteBalance.
PUBG Mobile is most definitely one among the most popular games of 2018. There are scores of people across the globe who are hooked to the game. And earlier this year, the game announced the India Series 2019 which aimed towards the growth of India’s PUBG Mobile esports ecosystem. And now, the Grand Finals of the PUBG Mobile India Series 2019, that is sponsored by Chinese smartphone brand Oppo is all set to take place on March 10 at GMC Balayogi Indoor Stadium, Hyderabad.
We should mention that the event is happening with the support of the Telangana Government and it has been organised after PUBG Mobile Campus Championship was successful in October last year. We should also add that PUBG Mobile Campus Championship was actually PUBG Mobile’s first endeavour to build an esports platform for college students. And this time PUBG Mobile wants to take it to the next level PUBG Mobile India Series had over 400,000 games across in-game and online qualifiers and featured some of the top PUBG Mobile clans such as RIP, PAiN, SouL, 8bit and Oxy.
The tournament was open to all residents of India who had a PUBG Mobile account above level 20. More than 2,000 teams were selected for the Playoffs at the PUBG Mobile India Series 2019 and among these, 20 best teams will fight it out at the Grand Finals. We should also add that the team which ranks first can walk away with Rs 30,00,000, and the ones that secure the second and the third spot will get Rs 10,00,000 and Rs 5,00,000 respectively.
Commenting on the tournament, Aneesh Aravind, General Manager, Tencent Games, India said, “With India Series 2019, we set out with the objective of making esports accessible to all segments of the PUBG MOBILE fan base by keeping it open-to-all. After launching India Series in January, we received a massive 575,000 registrations who played 400,000 games across 4 rounds, out of which the top 80 have made it to the finals. The sheer dedication, skill and temperament of these players are commendable as they make the transition from being gamers to esports athletes. As such, we expect an extremely high level of competition on March 10th, which PUBG MOBILE fans must be following with excitement!”
If you want to catch the action live, free limited passes to attend the Grand Finals can be availed at PUBG Mobile’s India website later in the week. Viewers at home can follow the action on PUBG MOBILE’s official YouTube channel and Facebook page. Live broadcast will begin at 1PM on March 10.
Huawei Nova 4e handset was teased by the company just a few days back when the smartphone maker confirmed about the selfie camera details of the device. And now, the Chinese smartphone maker has announced that Huawei Nova 4e will launch in China on March 14. The smartphone is most likely a new variant of the previously launched Huawei Nova 4 smartphone that sports a punch-hole selfie camera.
However, we should point out that Huawei Nova 4e is going to be different because the teaser shows the handset to come with a traditional waterdrop-style notch on its front panel. The smartphone is speculated to be the ‘stripped-down’ version of the Nova 4 handset and it should be available at a more affordable price.
The company took to Weibo to make the announcement that Huawei Nova 4e will be launched in China on March 14. However, the poster that has the launch date does not come with any other information about the device. Thanks to the teaser that surfaced online a few days back, we already know that the smartphone will come with a waterdrop-shaped notch that will house a 32MP front-facing snapper.
But then, there isn’t much else that we know about the upcoming handset. However, before the device is unveiled, we do expect to see some more information about its surface online.
Once the device is launched in China, it is speculated that it will soon launch in other parts of the world too. The global variant of the Huawei Nova 4e smartphone was recently spotted on TENAA and the listing showed it to sport a 6.15-inch full-HD+ display and be powered by HiSilicon Kirin 710 SoC. It was also reported that the smartphone will come with a triple rear camera setup that will comprise of 20-megapixel, 16-megapixel and 2-megapixel sensors and will house a 3,240mAh battery.
The listing also revealed that the handset will come with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. The vanilla variant of Huawei Nova 4 smartphone was launched in December last year and it comes with a hole on its display to house a 25MP selfie camera. It also has a 48MP primary camera with Sony IMX586 sensor and features a gradient colour design.
Around the world, Apple products are viewed as luxury items and a symbol of status. Since its inception, Apple has been making products which look and feel ‘different’ than the ones that are normally sold. And Apple is known by many as the company whose smartphones and gadgets are class-apart. However, in recent years, sales of iPhones and other Apple products have been falling at a slow but gradual rate. But that is not the only problem Apple is facing, as there is an entire list of things the company has been dealing with. And recently, it looks like Apple has been fighting battles on more than one fronts.
Apple had many services and products under its name and App Store is one of them. Apple charges app developers a certain amount of money to put their app on its platform. But that’s not all. Apple also charges the companies a certain fee when a user purchases or subscribes to their app. Last year, Netflix subscription cost $11 (approximately Rs 770) to iOS users and Apple pocketed up to $3.30 (approximately Rs 231) out of this money. It’s not news as Apple has been doing it with other companies as well and that might be the reason many companies accuse Apple of unfair marketing.
According to Associated Press, in the later months of 2018, Netflix rebelled against the Cupertino-based technology firm about its fee system. Usually Apple takes about 15% to 30% of the fee paid to the company per customer. However, this year Apple might hike the app cost to up to 50%. And it might be the reason that other companies might also follow Netflix’s lead and rebelling against Apple.
Recently, Apple had been making headlines for working on a number of paid subscription services which includes a Netflix style subscription service for TV shows, a news subscription service, a revamped Apple Music, a video game streaming subscription service etc. However, reports also suggest that many major companies have been rejecting the partnership that Apple is offering for its subscription services. Companies like Netflix, Hulu, New York Times, Washington Post, Spotify have been revolting against Apple because of its high charges and unfair deal in the partnership.
But, Apple’s troubles don’t stop here as we saw a serious decline in the iPhone sales after the release of its 2018 iPhone lineup. In fact, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max particularly didn’t do in most markets. And that had finally resulted in the falling shares (more than 25%) of the Cupertino based technology firm. According to FactSet, Apple’s shares will drop even further in 2019 by about 15% which could mean serious trouble for the company.
About the app charges, the company had defended that they were ‘reasonable compensation for reviewing the apps ensuring its store remains a safe and secure place for e-commerce.’
Apple’s App Store generates about a third of the company’s services revenue and with the app manufacturers and developers rebelling against the company they too might pull their legs back. And if the major companies remove their apps from Apple’s App store then we can see further decline in the Apple’s shares and profits.

Photo-messaging app Snapchat has launched a beta test version with eight new languages. Out of eight languages, five are Indian and the rest are other Asian languages, according to media reports. The Indian languages that have been added include Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, and Urdu while the other three Asian languages are Malay, Vietnamese and Filipino.
This move shows that the company is focusing its attention towards the Asian market and more importantly, the Indian market. The new beta version comes with only one goal from Snapchat in mind, to reach and attract more users for its platform.
Snapchat enjoyed popularity in India before the company’s CEO, Evan Spiegal said in 2017 that ‘poor countries’ like India and Spain didn’t interest him for business expansion so he didn’t plan to focus on such countries. For this comment of his, Spiegal faced massive outburst and criticism from Indian citizens.
And with the release of the new beta version of Snapchat which has the Indian market as its main focus, it is evident that the company seems to have changed its mind-set towards the market. After the CEO’s comment about India being a ‘poor country’, many Indian users of the app boycotted it and uninstalled the app from their smartphones.
Quoting Snapchat about the beta version, it said, “This is our first Beta containing eight new languages! If you’re fluent in any languages listed below, try changing your device language to check them out.”
The company has also asked the beta testers of the app to post screenshots and report any issues and bugs they find to make it ‘awesome’. But there is no official release date of the stable update of the new languages support. Also, the platforms on which this beta version will be tested is still unknown, it can be either Android or iOS or both.
This move by Snapchat comes in later than other social platforms. We should mention that Facebook and Google have already launched their apps and services to support multiple Indian languages. The support of Indian languages gained them the credibility of the Indian app users and in turn the users of the said services grew exponentially. Not just Facebook and Google but other services like Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn as well have focused more on the Indian user base these past years.
In October 2018, Snapchat hired the former head of news partnerships and government from Twitter India, Raheel Khursheed as its first executive to head operations in the country.
We should add here that in 2017, a report by the search giant, Google suggested that by 2021, India would have around 536 million internet users accessing and using content on the internet in their regional languages.

Let’s face it: Gmail has become an extremely important service for all of us. In fact, we really don’t know what we’ll do without it because we are too used to its features that make life so simple for us. Here, we have made a list of 10 little-known features of Google‘s email service:
In This Article
Recall emails in Gmail
Yes, there is a way of recalling emails in Gmail and it can prove to be extremely useful at times. You clearly don’t want to send an email meant for your office best friend to your client, right? But you should know that once you send an email, it can be recalled via a box that appears on the bottom right. You can even increase the time limit of that box to stay up to 30 seconds so that you have an option of recalling an email during this time. You can read further here on how this can be done.
Send emails in Confidential mode
This feature lets you send self-destructing emails to your friends. You can write an email and then click on the ‘lock’ icon on the bottom bar to set a timer on it. While the timer is not visible, it gets turned on the moment the receiver opens the email. After the time pre-set by you, they would not be able to access the email.
Add an extra layer of security to your emails with an SMS passcode
If you wish to keep an important email more secure, you can add an SMS passcode on it. Press on the same lock-shaped icon on the bottom bar and select the option of ‘SMS passcode’. This will add an extra layer of security to the email you are sending.
Mute email chains that you don’t care about
Suppose somebody tagged you in a mail that already has a number of people tagged in it. While there are times when you care about what is being spoken about in the mail, there are times when it has got nothing to do with you. If you find yourself in the latter situation, you can mute the email by selecting it and then tapping on the three-dot icon and clicking on ‘Mute’.
Canned responses
This is a good way to cut down the time you spend on the email service every day. If you’re tired of typing out the same reply every time someone emails you with a question that you are asked often, you can compose your reply once and save the message text so that it is easier for you to resend it again and again.
Got the Wrong Bob?
Do you know two people named Bob? And wait, is one of them your CEO and the other is a goofy friend from college? We can imagine that you don’t want to send an email to a wrong Bob. You can rule out this possibility by enabling the ‘Got the wrong Bob?‘ feature in Google Labs.
Use Gmail in offline mode
Okay, so you cannot send emails in offline mode, but at least you can access the service and compose and save emails. The moment your smartphone gets internet connectivity; your email will be sent.
Gmail security checklist
We know that some of you may consider privacy to be a little overrated, but then we also know that for some of you, it’s very important. Here, you can access all the security guidelines on Gmail’s list that includes 18 items in five categories. We recommend you to go through the list to make sure your account is secure.
Add tasks to remember
The new Gmail design has a sidebar that has Tasks, Keep and Calendar. Here, you can select the option of ‘Tasks’ to make a list of things to do during the day. Considering we all access Gmail a number of times during the day, it should prove to keep your day more organised.
Add important dates to your Calendar
Instead of accessing your Google Calendar separately to add important events, you can directly add them there by accessing it on the sidebar of the email service.
Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo has announced that it will be launching its upcoming X27 smartphone with a pop-up selfie camera on March 19. However, we should add that Vivo X27 smartphone will be launched in China on the said date, but there is no official release date of the device for the Indian market. The upcoming Vivo X27 handset is said to be similar to Vivo V15 Pro in the looks and specifications department.
The company posted about the release date of the Vivo X27 on the Chinese social networking website, Weibo. The launch will take place on March 19 and the company is already taking pre-registrations from its customers and fans on its official China website.
Vivo X27 will come with a vertically stacked triple-rear camera setup and a pop-up selfie camera at the front. The smartphone will also come with an all-display front panel with no notches and is expected to sport an in-display fingerprint scanner. Vivo has also released photos of the smartphone which confirm some of these details about the X27. The main rear camera will be a 48MP sensor with night view for low-light photography.
Earlier, the device was spotted on TENAA listings and it is said that Vivo X27 will house a 3,920mAh battery with fast charging support. The main rear camera might be coupled with a 13MP sensor along with a 5MP sensor. According to the listings, the Vivo X27 will be running Android 9.0 Pie and will have 8GB of RAM along with 256GB of storage.
We should add here that with these specifications and design elements, the upcoming Vivo X27 looks like another variant of the previously launched Vivo V15 Pro. Looking back, the Vivo V15 Pro comes with a 6.39-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display and is powered by Snapdragon 675 SoC. The smartphone comes with triple rear camera setup comprising of a 48MP main sensor, an 8MP super wide sensor and a 5MP sensor. For selfies and video calls, the smartphone houses a pop-up camera of 32MP sensor on its top edge. Unlike the Vivo X27, the Vivo V15 Pro comes with 6GB RAM coupled with 128GB storage and has a 3,700mAh battery. In India the Vivo V15 Pro is priced at Rs 28,990.
Chinese smartphone maker Huawei is suing the United States because of the policies that have imposed a ban on the use of the company’s equipment by the government. This comes as the latest move in the ongoing battle between the company and the US. According to the lawsuit, the policies that have been passed by Congress last year have unconstitutionally singled out the Chinese smartphone maker for punishment.
When the legislation was passed by Congress, it blocked Chinese-made telecommunications equipment from being used in federal networks. This basically meant that government contractors could not use equipment from Huawei. We should add that Huawei and ZTE, along with some other Chinese companies were specifically named.
According to Huawei, the measure that was imposed breached a legal standard against making a “bill of attainder,” as the policy that was made was directed at a small group. Furthermore, the government is also accused of infringing the company’s due process rights.
The lawsuit was announced by the company’s executives at a press conference in Shenzen. According to Huawei’s Guo Ping, after failing to pacify the concerns of US lawmakers, “we are left with no choice but to challenge the law in court.”
Huawei also called the ban on the company completely unnecessary and added that because of this, the United States would be left behind in the buildout of next-generation 5G connectivity.
However, we must add here that US officials have repeatedly considered Huawei to be a potential security threat. They also said that the company may a tool that is being used by the Chinese government to spy on users in other countries. However, Huawei has maintained that this is not the case and said that the US has not been able to provide evidence for its statement or concerns yet.
The measures that were taken by the government are clearly the strongest actions that have been taken against Huawei in the United States. We should also mention that as Huawei remains embroiled in the battle regarding policy measures, the US is looking for the extradition of the company’s financial officer from Canada.
