After pushing the innovation of Caller ID to great heights to make communication safer and more efficient for their users, Truecaller has rolled out three highly anticipated features for its users across the world. These features include:
Call Reason
Schedule SMS
SMS Translate
As a leader in the mobile identity space, Truecaller informs customers regarding who is calling them. However, these newly-launched features would inform the users about why they are getting the call on their smartphones.
Expressing excitement at the launch of Call reason, Schedule SMS and SMS Translate, Rishit Jhunjhunwala, Chief Product Officer at Truecaller, said, “We have been working towards building an innovative communication suite for our users and these three features are the next big step in line with this mission. Communication in 2020 is easier in many ways, but also complicated by the vast ways in which people connect for information.”
According to Truecaller, Call Reason, which is one of the most requested features in 2020, enables users to set a reason for their call to allow the receiver to check what the call is about, whether the incoming call is personal, business or something urgent. With this, the new feature extends the platform’s Caller ID feature to help users to send a note in their outgoing calls. This would empower users in higher pick-up rates on outgoing calls as the receiver would know “what reason the call has been placed”. Businesses can set a customized text before every call which would increase engagement with their customers. It is available to both Android and iOS users.
The new ‘Schedule SMS’ extends the platform’s Caller ID feature to enable users to schedule a message reminder of any events, meetings, or what groceries you need to pick up at the end of the day. Users can schedule SMS by simply selecting the icon while messaging and choose a date and time. Your message will be sent then, and you will always be able to see it scheduled in your chat. This feature is available for Android users only.
In addition to these features, the SMS Translate feature allows users to instantly translate the content of their messages directly in Truecaller without leaving the app. This feature works for both SMS and instant messages (IM). It is powered by Google’s ML Kit and all messages are processed locally in the phone, which means the content of your messages never leaves your device. Language packs are downloaded to your device before translation begins. Users can also download additional languages to use them offline, anytime and anywhere. SMS Translate will only be available for Android.
Truecaller further stated that it strives to stay true to the core principle of building a product for masses while always acting in the public interest. It is constantly listening to its users and want to help them by putting more power in their hands.

Asus ROG phone 2 got the best gaming smartphone award from us last year. Why? Because it had everything that was cutting edge at the time and one needed from a top-notch gaming phone. Now its bigger brother is out in the market in the form of Asus ROG Phone 3. Is it better than its predecessor? Let us find out in our Asus ROG Phone 3 review. Read on.
In This Article
Design and Display
Let’s quickly talk about the design of the Asus ROG Phone 3 first. Out of the box, it does not look very different from the previous gen, however, there are good and some bad changes on the phone. The good ones are that the USB Type-C point at the bottom is off-centre so that you can connect the charging cable and play with ease. The RGB lit logo makes a comeback and the rear design has got subtle changes and the heat exhaust grill at the back is an A+ in our books.
However, there is no 3.5mm audio port on the phone. That has now been moved to its Aero Active Cooler 3 attachment or you can attach a headphone with a supplied USB-C adaptor. Over that, there is no wireless charging. Majorly because of the RGB logo at the back.
But otherwise, the phone looks great. Sure it does not have an edge to edge touchscreen, but it is large enough for gaming and video pleasures. The display comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection, you get the nifty power and volume buttons and very modern rear camera panel. Overall we loved the design of the Asus ROG Phone 3. And before we forget, yes, the air triggers do come on the Asus ROG Phone 3 as well and the response rate has become better with them.
Moving to its 6.59-inch AMOLED display. It supports HDR 10 and 144Hz response rate. Max brightness here is 650nits and the screen supports glove touch too. We played a lot of games on the Asus ROG Phone 3, ranging from Call of Duty: Mobile to Asphalt series and not once did it disappoint us. We took it out in bright sunlight and everything on the screen was very legible. With that, the movie experience both indoors and outdoors is superb. Yes, the dual speakers sound was not super loud, but for single viewing and gaming pleasures, it was very decent.
Asus ROG Phone 3 performance and cameras
Let’s quickly talk about the insides before we tell you about what we felt about its overall performance. Asus ROG Phone 3 comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset with Adreno 650 graphics. This is combined with 8GB RAM and 128GB UFS 3.1 storage. Android 10 with Asus’s own skin comes right out of the box. All this makes up for the best gaming experience? Yes, it does. You get the absolute best when it comes to performance.
We loved every bit of it and the phone did not give us a chance to really bicker when it came to gaming or movie performance. Like we said we threw the best (highly demanding) games at it and it ran them with extreme ease.
When it comes to cameras, the Asus ROG Phone 3 has Sony IMX686 64MP camera at the back with another 13MP secondary sensor and a third 5MP camera for bokeh. Here too, the phone did not disappoint. We got very close to life shots, indoors and outdoors. Portrait shots had good edge detection, but landscape ones not so much. During low light or night time, we did face a little bit of graininess, but that went off as soon as we turned on the flash. Over that, the rear camera can also able to take exquisite 8K video shots at 30fps.
On the front Asus ROG Phone 3 has a 24MP sensor with f2.0 aperture, which we adored. The selfies during day time or in well-lit rooms were fabulous. Nighttime or low light not so much. So anytime we had to click a selfie, we made sure there is ample light in the room.
Moving to its battery performance, the Asus ROG Phone 3 has a 6,000 mAh battery that supports quick charge 4.0. This battery can last! We played hours of COD on the Asus ROG Phone 3 and the battery would just not die. Under normal circumstances, it can last you up to 2 days. Saying that, if you game a lot on it, it will still last you a day. For security, the smartphone does get Face Recognition as well as an in-display fingerprint sensor. Both of which work well. WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 with QC aptX support is also part of the package.
Overall, we loved the performance of the Asus ROG Phone 3 except its 240 grams weight. This has been distributed well, but we are sure Asus could have shaved a few grams off, here and there.
Verdict
Overall, we just loved the whole experience with the Asus ROG Phone 3. It has a battery that lasts, it can run the latest games at the best settings and design is very modern. Yes, there is a but here. The price is on the higher side of things and not what we were expecting. The 8GB model comes at Rs 49,999 and that seems to be 5-7K higher of what everyone was expecting it to be. Nevertheless, with the current schemes and bank offers, you can easily get it at under Rs 45,000, which makes it a very worthy buy.
Pros
Good display
Best in class for gaming
Long battery life
Cons
The sound could have been better

Danish technology company, Jabra, recently launched its Elite 45H headphones in India at a price of Rs 9,999. Jabra Elite 45H headphones are claimed to have a battery life of up to 50 hours, and come with support for Jabra Sound+ app and Bluetooth 5.0. Are they worth buying at this price point? We spent a few days with it and here’s our review of Jabra Elite 45H:
In This Article
Jabra Elite 45H design
Let’s begin by talking about the design of Jabra Elite 45H. The headphones have a very simple design but that does not mean that they aren’t classy to look at. In fact, you would like them if you love gadgets with minimalist design, more than the flashier ones. The body of the headphones is primarily made of plastic with matte texture but the extenders that help you adjust the device are metallic. However, they mostly stay hidden behind the headband of the headphones and are only visible when you actually make certain adjustments. The device weighs 160g, and needless to say, it is extremely light, and hence, it is very comfortable to wear Jabra Elite 45H for a long time.
To get into the specifics, the headband of Jabra Elite 45 headphones is made of a rubberised material that has padding, clubbed with plastic on the top. The earcups are made up of PU leatherette and they have memory foam within them for padding. There are tiny holes on the earcups too that form a prominent ‘R’ on the right one and an ‘L’ on the left one.
When put together, the materials that are used for the headband as well as for the earcups result in a very comfortable listening experience. We used the headphones for hours at times and never at once felt uncomfortable. Even though the headphones are compact in size, they cannot be folded inwards. They would have been more portable than what they are now, had that ability been there. However, we should mention that Jabra has included a case in which the headphones can be carried, so that’s certainly a plus.
All the controls of the headphones are present on the right earcup. There is a button to switch them On and Off, and interestingly, it turns on the Bluetooth too automatically. There are three buttons placed above it which can be used to Play/Pause, Receive or Reject calls, adjust the volume and skip through songs. There is another button placed separately that is dedicated to use the digital assistant on your smartphone. Besides these, the right earcup also comes with a USB-Type C charging port.
We did notice one thing that may cause inconvenience to some. The headphones have a tendency of slipping a bit when the wearer bends their head forward or backward. If you use Jabra’s new offering a lot, you may find this to be a consistent problem. The grip of the device could certainly be better.
Jabra Elite 45H performance
Jabra Elite 45H headphones have to be connected with the Jabra Sound+ app in your smartphone to be used and doing this is a very simple task. Just download the app on your smartphone, select the device’s name and then follow the instructions. This will give you access to a number of additional functions that can be performed via the app like five-band customisable Equalization and certain things that can be modified according to the user’s preferences. Users also have the option of enabling Sleep Mode. The headphones have Bluetooth 5.0 for connectivity and come with fast charging capabilities. However, it lacks an IP rating and some features like Ambient Sound, auto Play and Pause, and ANC is also not present. The company has also claimed a battery life of up to 50 hours, and during our time with Jabra Elite 45H headphones, we could use them for almost an entire week without having to charge them again. We think at this price point, this is a very good battery life they boast of.
Coming to the sound output of the Jabra Elite 45H headphones, the lows, highs and the mids of the music – all sounded great, but the device is particularly for you if you like music that’s heavy on mids. The Bass on headphones sounds extremely good too. We heard a lot of songs that were heavy on Bass to make sure that it sounds great, and it does.
However, we should mention that some tracks would sound better at a lower volume on the headphones. You may encounter this problem if you listen to songs that are heavy on too many instruments.
We didn’t only use the headphones to listen to music, but also to make and receive phone calls. We have to say that the microphone of the Jabra Elite 45H headphones did a good job at all times. We, as well as the person we called, could hear each other clearly at all times. We didn’t face any disturbance even once, and we think that that’s quite impressive.
Verdict
Considering the price of Rs 9,999, Jabra Elite 45H headphones are definitely a good buy. The clarity of sound is great, the battery is long lasting and the microphone works well too. Moreover, the headphones are comfortable to wear even for long duration. A few features may be missing, but at this price point, Jabra Elite 45H offers good performance.

Last year at the tech giant Google made a number of announcements at its I/O 2019 developer’s conference. So, one of those important announcements also included Google Assistant Driving Mode which seems to have started rolling out and is a replacement for the Android Auto app on smartphones.According to a report by XDA Developers, some of the users have spotted a new navigation UI in the Google Maps app last week. Apart from this the publisher also claimed that it has discovered evidence to prove the rollout of the spotted navigation UI to Google Assistant’s Driving Mode. According to the company Google has enabled this function on Pixel 4, LG Velvet as well as Asus ZenFone 7 Pro. The roll-out of the new functionality brings a fresh setting page that supports the new navigation UI.Image Courtesy: XDA DevelopersThe publisher has also shared some screenshots for the new setting for the Google Assistant. According to this inside the Google Assistant settings, you will now see updated Navigation settings of Google Maps that includes a toggle manage driving mode. The new settings page for the Google Assistant is at the moment cannot be enabled nor it can be disabled through a voice command which means the company has rolled out an incomplete feature of Google Assistant’s Driving Mode. Moreover, the partially rolled out Driving Mode feature for Google Assistant also differs from what it was announced at the Google I/O 2019. This might be because the company has changed the UI as it has been over a year since the announcement was made a year ago.At the time of the announcement, the company explained that it wanted to make sure that the drivers are able to do everything they need with just a voice. The Assistant’s new driving mode will bring navigation, messaging, calling and media—front and centre. It includes suggestions tailored for the users. As per the company, if you have a dinner reservation on your calendar, you’ll see directions to the restaurant. Or if you started a podcast at home, you can resume right where you left off from your car. If a call comes in, the Assistant will tell you who’s calling and ask if you want to answer, so you can pick up or decline with just your voice. The Assistant’s driving mode will launch automatically when your phone is connected to your car’s Bluetooth or just say, “Hey Google, let’s drive,” to get started.

Days after Instgram turns 10, the instant photo-and-video-sharing app has now launched its first consumer marketing campaign in India called ‘Do Your Thing’. This campaign aims to celebrate the creators and their creativity that manifests on its newest video format, Reels. It will showcase across mediums during the IPL.
For those who wondering what Reels is? Well, it’s Instagram’s new video surface that gives anyone the ability to create short form, edited videos. It’s being used by people across the country, many of whom have become creators with a national following, to entertain their audience.
“Creators inspire us with how they push culture forward, creating trends that become mainstream. This is happening with Reels in India and for this reason, we’re betting big on it. Reels was born out of the idea that there’s a creator in each of us, and we’re excited to see the Indian community across genres, and big and small cities use it. This campaign, timed during IPL, which is a sporting and cultural moment, is meant to entertain, inspire and invite everyone in India to come together and ‘Do Your Thing’,” said Ajit Mohan, Managing Director and Vice President, Facebook India.
According to Instagram, “ Now, the consumer campaign takes this further, by saluting the creator in everyone. Through a series of 15-second ads, the campaign showcases all of the AR, music and editing features that allow creators to bring alive their imagination. It is designed to give the audience a flavour of the kind of entertaining content, and the variety of interests they can explore, like dance, comedy, music, fashion, food, and a whole lot more.”
Instagram has further stated that the creatives have been created in collaboration with Ogilvy. Stating that everyone is a creator in today’s time, Sukesh Nayak, Chief Creative Officer, Ogilvy India, said, “Instagram is a platform that encourages creative expression and has always given everyday people a voice. With Reels, Instagram is democratizing creativity, and we’re trying to communicate this with the new campaign. The creatives are short, fun, surprising and very entertaining. They’ve been shot as Reels, and the storyline is inspired by the content from popular creators.”
The first set of ads went on air on October 18th during the IPL and will include 4 films. Instagram further added that content from IPL 2020 is appearing prominently on Reels, be it from the teams, players or fans, showing practice sessions and fun moments.

The Software tech giant Google has removed the Trusted Contacts app from the Google Play store as well as from Apple’s App Store. The withdrawn app was introduced in the year 2016 and was useful for those who wanted a keep track of their loved one’s device activity as well as location status with selected contacts. In addition to this, the company will also pull down its support for the app starting December 1. While pulling the app from the App Store and Play store the tech giant said, “Over three years ago, we launched the Trusted Contacts app as a way to help people stay up-to-date with their loved ones’ whereabouts. Since then, we’ve built this functionality directly into Google Maps with Location Sharing – making it even easier to share your live location with trusted friends and family. As a result, the Trusted Contacts app will be removed from the App Store and Play Store today and will stop being supported after December 1, 2020. If the app is installed on your device, you can continue to use it until then. If you have created trusted contacts, you can download them from the trusted contacts page until December 1, 2020. After that date, the Trusted Contact app will no longer work and your trusted contacts will be unable to see the live location you are sharing with them from the app.”As compared to Google Maps, Trusted Contacts is helpful at sharing the exact location of your kids or loved ones with the people added to the contacts when in case of emergency. While on the other hand Google Maps only shares real-time location but for this, you have to go for the constant tracking of your location being shared with other people also instead of some of the trusted contacts on your list. The company’s move to pull off the app is because it does not have a large user base and its popularity. And those who are already a user of the app have to find an alternative as the company is also ending support for the Trusted contacts starting December 1st.The Trusted Contacts app allows you to add people to whom you want to share your whereabouts. When in crisis or emergency the friends or family members can get your status to know if you are safe and in response, you can share your location to help them reach you on time or else you can deny the request. When you do not respond within five minutes the app will automatically send your current location to the contact and if you go offline your last location will be shared. To recall the app made a replacement for Google Latitude and Google+ Location Sharing that were also scrapped by the tech giant.

India’s smartphone budget market is dominated by Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo. In front of these giants, where does the Nokia 5.3 stands? Let’s find out in our extensive review. Before we begin allow us to give you a rough guide on what the smartphone brings. The Nokia 5.3 device is a budget Android smartphone manufactured by HMD Global. It is a part of Android One programme and its price starts at Rs 13,999 in India. Here you will get a clean Android experience with up to two years of Android version updates and three years of security updates. The mobile comprises of a quad rear camera set up and an LCD display with a notch to house a selfie camera. So, to know, let’s find out how well does the smartphone perform and what else it has to offer to compete with other bands in the mid-range segment.
In This Article
Design and Display
Starting with the design, we got the Charcoal colour variant to tinker with but as your liking, you can also go for Cyan or Sand colour options. Nokia 5.3 has a matte finish and to bring down the cost, the company has used this finish over the polycarbonate body, which also feels less bulky in the hand, does not attract smudges and is sturdy too. On the back, it has a circular module to house four cameras positioned around an LED Flash in the centre. Just below the camera set up, you have a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, which is well placed and is quick to unlock the smartphone. However, it has another option as face unlock, which also works pretty well, too. The 3.5mm headphone jack is placed right on top of the phone. While down at the bottom it has a USB Type-C port for charging and two down-firing speakers grills as well.Speaking of the audio, the speakers are loud but cracks a bit as soon as you go for higher audio volume. The dual sim and microSD card slots are given at the left side of the phone and just below it, there is a dedicated Google Assistant button, which is a handy feature to have on this phone. One can also disable it from the settings menu in case you feel it is disturbing. On the right-hand side, Nokia 5.3 has a volume key button and a power button that doubles up as a LED notification light, We found this to be a very useful feature on the smartphone and it definitely draws your eyes to see it when you get a notification. The overall design of the phone is simple and has a very minimalistic yet modern look. Moving on, the font of the Nokia 5.3 has a 6.55-inch HD+ (720×1,600 pixels) IPS LCD display with 20:9 aspect ratio along with a dewdrop notch on the top of the screen. The Side bezels are slim however it has a noticeable chin. If it was reduced a bit more we would have found it more appealing. We got a bit uncomfortable knowing that Nokia 5.3 only includes an HD+panel but the IPS LCD display does its job well. Yes, it is not as sharp as the OLED panels but we did not see any pixelation while browsing the web or streaming videos on it. The brightness of the display is good enough to be used under direct sunlight. Moreover, colours on the phone looked quite natural, but as we said earlier it stands nowhere when compared with an OLED display as it lacks the contrast. Its dimensions are 164.3×76.6×8.5mm making the smartphone perfect in size – it isn’t too wide and not too tall, just the right fit for our hands.
Performance and Camera
Nokia 5.3 walks in with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC, paired with 4GB or 6GB LPDDR4x RAM. In terms of storing content, the phone comes in a single 64GB storage option that is expandable via microSD card to up to 512GB. Gaming is not going to be a breeze on this smartphone as it is slightly dated chipset. The phone gets a bit drawn out during high paced gaming but no lag will be noticed while you play Call off duty even on very high frame rate and graphics. We have to mention that the phone heats up during long gaming hours. But hey, Nokia has not made it for the game hungry, but for the regular everyday power user. The USP of this phone is the Stock Android experience, which is clean and is free of any bloatware. Compared to Xiaomi’s custom skin with bloatware and ads, the Nokia 5.3 is a breath of fresh air. We just love the look of a clean stock Android OS that sets it apart from Samsung and Xiaomi phones. This smartphone is one of the very few phones, which is a part of Android One programme and guarantees two years of software updates and three years of security updates as well. Browsing social media and performing everyday tasks on the phone is buttery smooth. Sometimes we did notice that the app took a tad bit time to load, but nothing that can be taken as negative in this segment. In terms of the cameras on Nokia 5.3, it features a quad-camera setup at the back of the phone. This includes a 13-megapixel primary lens, a 5-megapixel secondary ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2-megapixel depth sensor, and another 2-megapixel macro lens. On the front, there is an 8-megapixel selfie camera.Frankly speaking, we found that the cameras on the phone are average. In bright light, you would be able to capture decent (normal as well as ultra-wide-angle) images. Some images show low dynamic range and contrast when shot with a wider field of view. The portrait images on the other hand are slightly better. The subject seems vibrant, edge detection is better and the bokeh effect is good as well. Also, Nokia 5.3 has a dedicated night mode that will enhance the image quality, however, it took too long to click and process images in this mode. So we recommend you either keep your hand steady for a bit or use the flash with the night shot. We got mixed results from the macro sensor. While some shots were really putting off, some were outstanding. Coming to the front camera the 8-megapixel selfie sensor is, however, good but it seems to lack vibrancy in the images. As far as portrait images are concerned the edge detection isn’t perfect and the selfies lacked sharpness as well as vividness. As for the videos, there is no stabilisation on (both) the rear as well as the front camera sensors. As a final point, the cameras on the Nokia 5.3 are average and if cameras are your priority, Then you might want to check Redmi or Galaxy M series. In terms of the battery, the phone is backed by a 4,000mAH battery. It delivers a good all-day battery life. But it needs to be put on charge before you go to sleep for the next day. The device is shipped with a 10W charger, which manages to charge it to 30 per cent in an hour and to completely charge, it took more than two and a half hours so you cannot expect fast charging on this phone.
Verdict
If you are on a tight budget and are looking for a non-Chinese phone, which is good at multitasking, has a decent battery life and Stock Android experience then you can go for the Nokia 5.3. For gaming and great cameras, you might need to check out other options. ProsLong battery lifeLooks pretty goodDecent displayConsAverage camerasShould have included better chipsetLacks fast charging
