Vivo X70 Pro Plus review: A pathbreaking flagship

0
Well, where to begin? These days, you rarely come across a flagship smartphone in India that has something very new and exciting to showcase. The Vivo X70 Pro Plus is not only a refreshing change from the run of the mill, but at the end of it, this smartphone left us speechless and as much as we love to talk, the silence was filled with happiness. This is the Vivo X70 Pro Plus review, which jots down every unique feature that makes up the new flagship by the company.

Vivo X70 Pro Plus review: Design and display

Right from the packaging to the smartphone, everything spells premium. You get it in a flat cardboard case that has everything put in well. You get a large power brick, long charging cable and a case too. Bring it out of the box and you will find the gorgeous Vivo X70 Pro Plus, the smartphone demands attention. The front of the smartphone is dominated by a large 3D curved 6.78-inch AMOLED touch display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR 10+, 1,500 nits of peak brightness and 1,440×3,200 pixels resolution. The aspect ratio is set at 20:9 and PPI lies at 517. Put together, the screen of the Vivo X70 Pro Plus is superb. We watched a lot of videos on it, including FHD videos on YouTube and Netflix. The experience was extremely good. The smartphone not only shows crisp text, but the colours do not wash out under direct sunlight. The gaming experience on it was superb too. We played games like Asphalt 9: Legends and BGMI and they looked extremely refined on the display of Vivo X70 Pro Plus. For day-to-day tasks, videos as well as gaming, the display will not disappoint at all. Vivo-X70 Talking a bit more about the aesthetics of the Vivo X70 Pro Plus, it comes with a punch-hole front camera in the top middle which does not hinder the watching experience. The ear speaker is moved to the extreme top along with the rest of the sensors. So, you get a much more refined edge to edge display. The sideband is built of metal and has the volume rocker, power button on the right, while the USB Type-C charging port speaker grill and nano-SIM tray can be found at the bottom with the primary MIC. Vivo-X70-Pro-Plus-bot Flip it around and you get to see the finest quality back panel with a larger than usual camera bump, which consists of four cameras. Vivo and Zeiss branding can also be found here. Overall, in the built and display department the Vivo X70 Pro Plus gets an A+ on our rankings, we loved every bit of it. back

Vivo X70 Pro Plus review: Performance and Cameras

Let’s quickly get the technical specifications of the smartphone out of the way. The Vivo X70 Pro Plus comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ 5G chipset that is the fastest in the current gen of CPUs. It is partnered with Adreno 660 for graphics, up to 12 GB of RAM and 512GB of fast UFS 3.1 storage. Together it makes up for a mean tech specs sheet. For battery, the company has installed a 4,500 mAh one inside, which some might think is less, but on our tests, it lasted for a full day. Besides, it comes with a 55W faster charger in the box, that can recharge it in a jiffy. Just make and sip a cup of coffee and the phone will be recharged by the time you are finished with it. Over that, the Vivo X70 Pro Plus also supports up to 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse charging, in case you want to charge any other wireless device with it. The operating system on the Vivo X70 Pro Plus is Android 11 that has the FunTouch OS 12 skin loaded on it. There is minimal bloatware on it and Vivo has done an excellent job of optimising it. The system boots quickly, apps open in a blink of an eye and the multitasking experience is best in class. A dedicated app drawer can also be found here. Combined with the 120Hz display the sheer smoothness of scrolling social media feeds and jogging through apps is immensely pleasurable. Vivo-rear Coming to its main attraction, its cameras, the Vivo X70 Pro Plus is by far one of the best we have seen this year. You get best in class Zeiss lenses here, with a gimble attached to it. This means you get super steady shots no matter what the situation is. Also, the primary shooter has a glass lens by Zeiss on it, which is much better than the usual plastic lenses found on most smartphones. The four capturers on the back of the Vivo X70 Pro Plus consist of a 50MP wide-angle lens with laser AF and OIS. The next one is a 48MP ultrawide angle lens with Gimbal OIS, a 12 MP telephoto lens and an 8MP periscope lens with 5X optical zoom. There is Zeiss T* lens coating on it as well that enables the users to capture even better shots even when facing direct light. We were able to produce some excellent shots during the day with all its lenses especially the primary wide-angle and ultrawide angle lenses. The colours were perfect and the clarity was very good. The amount of detail present in each shot is immense and you feel happy with your shot. In most cases, you click one shot and you are done. But the buck does not stop here, there is hyper zoom available in the Vivo X70 Pro Plus, which lets the users zoom up to 60X digitally and get exquisite shots even at that level. Vivo-X70-Pro-Plus-image-1 We were impressed, but it further shocked us when we switched on the night photography mode. In the Vivo X70 Pro Plus, the maker has installed its proprietary V1 imaging chip that can take shots in almost no light. In almost dark conditions the camera was able to produce excellent colours and hues with crisp edges, better than what the eyes could see. The smartphone carries a remarkable set of cameras that not only make you happy but make you jump with joy! Vivo-X70-Pro-Plus-night-shot Users can also capture brilliant videos in 8K at 30FPS, but 4K mode gets you 60FPS. You get life-like colours and stable videos in all the modes, except FHD (1080p) gets you super stabilisation mode. The cameras are great if you love to take videos or vlogging regularly. It can give some of the best DSLRs a run for their money. Yes, the cameras are that good. Moving to the selfie camera, the Vivo X70 Pro Plus comes with 32MP wide-angle lens with f/2.5 aperture size. The story here is also very lively. We were able to squeeze out excellent selfies during the day, but quality fell a little in low light. So, our suggestion is to use the rear cameras if you are shooting at night. The front camera can also shoot videos in 4K at 60FPS, which as said is great for vloggers. The colours are very close to life and you do not see any ghosting or details lost here.

Verdict

All in all, we enjoyed our experience with this smartphone. There was not a single person we came across who did not enquire about the smartphone we were holding. The Vivo X70 Pro Plus is also all weather-ready with an IP68 rating making it dust and waterproof. Security features such as an under-display fingerprint sensor are also there that works nicely. The smartphone is 5G ready, so it is futureproof too. WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and aptX HD are also part of the package. The smartphone is good in the sound department too as you get loud and crunchy sound from its loudspeaker. At Rs 79,990 Vivo has got themselves a winner. If you are in the market looking for a professional picture shooter with good battery life, best in class performance and good looks, your search ends here.

Samsung Galaxy A52s Review: A lot of hits and a few misses

Samsung Galaxy A52s is priced at Rs 35,999 in India and is an upgrade to Galaxy A52. The smartphone comes with 5G, a display with 120Hz refresh rate, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G SoC. But how worthy is the upgrade? Read our Samsung Galaxy A52s review to find out more.

Samsung Galaxy A52s review: Design and Display

We really liked the design and the look and feel of the Samsung Galaxy A52s. The handset sports a polycarbonate back panel that has a matte finish coupled with a plastic frame. The matte finish of the back panel didn’t take away from the premium looks of the device and at the same time, it was efficient enough to not get any fingerprints. Since the colour of the back of the smartphone we got for review was white, it sometimes looked like it was made of marble. The camera module of the device is placed on the back too and it houses four lenses and an LED flash. Besides that, there is Samsung branding in Silver colour present on it.  Samsung Galaxy A52s The right edge of Samsung Galaxy A52s houses the Power and the Volume Rocker keys, while SIM tray and the secondary microphone are on the top. The speaker grill, Type-C port, microphone and the 3.5mm headphone jack are on the bottom edge of the device. Flip over and you’ll see the 6.5-inch display of the smartphone that is outlined with rather thick bezels and has an even thicker chin at the bottom. There is a selfie camera on the top of the screen and there is a tiny earpiece placed between the display and the frame of the phone. It is worth mentioning that Samsung Galaxy A52s comes with an IP67 rating and is hence, dust and water-resistant.  Coming to the screen of the smartphone, it comes with a 6.5-inch full-HD+ Super AMOLED display that is protected with a layer of Gorilla Glass 5 and has a refresh rate of 120Hz. The colours projected on the display are accurate and stay consistent at different viewing angles. The images displayed are sharp, clear and the experience of watching videos was decent. It could have been better had the phone had support for HDR10. The sunlight readability of the device was good too and the screen did not catch our fingerprints during our time with the handset. Samsung Galaxy A52s 1 In a nutshell, we can easily say that Samsung Galaxy A52s has a beautiful design and a vibrant display – both of which impressed us.

Samsung Galaxy A52s review: Performance and cameras

Before we begin speaking about the performance of the Samsung Galaxy A52s, let’s take a minute to discuss its specifications. The handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G SoC clubbed with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Other than this, the device can also hold a microSD card of up to 1TB. The smartphone runs Android 11 skinned with Samsung’s own One UI 3.1. The software on the phone is very customized and comes with a number of pre-installed apps including Byju’s, PhonePe, Josh, Koo, Moj, etc, and even some apps from Samsung’s own suite. The only upside here is that most of these can be uninstalled in case you decide not to keep them. Galaxy Store cannot be uninstalled, but then, it didn’t bother us with too many notifications so it was fine.  Samsung Galaxy A52s 4 Coming to the performance of Samsung Galaxy A52s, the smartphone performed most of the daily tasks well. We even used it for multitasking and opened multiple tabs of Chrome and apps together and switched between them, but the device handled most of it pretty well. We played a number of games on the handset and during our time with it, we didn’t face any major issues or lags. The device did heat up a bit when we played Asphalt 9: Legends, but it wasn’t too much of a problem. We do recommend going to the Game Launcher app and tweaking the settings to get the best experience out of the handset.  The 4,500mAh battery of Samsung Galaxy A52s takes around an hour and a half to charge completely and it lasts more than a day with usage involving gaming, watching videos and an active Instagram account.  Samsung Galaxy A52s 3 Finally, let’s talk about the cameras of the smartphone. Samsung Galaxy A52s comes with a 64MP primary lens, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, and a macro and a depth sensor with 5MP lenses. There is also a 32MP selfie camera on the device. Most images that we took during the day using the primary lens turned out to be great. The image quality was very clear and the colours were vibrant too. The good quality of images remained consistent indoors as well as outdoors.  Samsung Galaxy A52s image sample 2 The ultra-wide sensor did an average job and obviously the quality of pictures wasn’t as great as it was in the ones taken by the primary sensor. There was a little distortion that we noticed in some shots too. The macro camera and the depth sensor both managed to click decent shots. We should point out that the pictures we took in low light didn’t turn out too great in terms of details and clarity. Enabling the Night Mode would help, but only to a certain extent.  Samsung Galaxy A52s image sample The selfie camera did a good job, but only in well-lit areas.

Verdict

Samsung Galaxy A52s at Rs 29,300 (on Amazon) is a good buy and it comes with a beautiful design, a vibrant 120Hz display, IP rating, and a lasting battery. The cameras don’t really impress and the smartphone also lacks HDR10+ support, which could have enhanced the video experience on it. Also, the device competes with a lot of smartphones in the same range that offer more. If the pros of the smartphone look appealing to you, we recommend you to buy it during the ongoing sales where you’re likely to find a few discounts on it.  Pros
  • Vibrant display
  • IP rating in this price range
  • Lasting battery
Cons
  • No HDR10+ support
  • Inconsistent camera performance

10 best Ways to Fix Google Drive Videos Not Playing or processing

The Google ecosystem is quite large with millions of users on it. Its cloud service which is named Drive is one of the most popular and widely used cloud storage across the globe. Consumers use the Drive storage for storing images, documents and videos. It often happens that the users feel like playing the uploaded video natively.  There is no denying that the native video player of google Drive is buggy and laggy and sometimes glitches out while using. From blank screen to error messages, you might surely have encountered a video player problem on G Drive. Here is how you can fix it. Let’s face it, many users use drive links or uploads to share pirated content from either one device to another or share the same with your friends or family. Initially, the content will play as the upload is fresh for the Google updates. But sooner or later either Google will not let you play it or delete the uploaded content. The Google servers use a smart file hashing function to find such content and either ban, block or remove it.
  • Exceeding max supported resolution

You can indeed upload any file with any format on your Google drive if the available storage for your plan is available. But if you want to play a video more than the supported playback resolution the Drive won’t allow it. The maximum set video resolution supported by Google Drive is 1,920×1,080. To play a higher resolution video you need to download it and play it natively on the system.
  • Large file size

Google Drive is generous enough to let you upload a video with a size up to 5TB (if you have that much available storage). Well, it’s more than enough for most of the users, but are you trying to upload and play a video of more than 5TB? Wow, but don’t do that the Drive won’t let you upload or playback the video. A solution to this can be if you split the video into multiple parts and then upload it one by one.
  • Video Corrupted

If you face the “Video cannot be played” error there is a chance that the video you are trying to play has been corrupted. Try downloading the file and playing the video offline if that works for you. Read Also: How to fix the USB drive format error message in Windows
  • Unsupported file type

There are some video file formats that Google Drive does not support. To know the file formats supported, head to the Supported formats tab to check if the file you are trying to play is covered in the list. If the file format is not present we advise you to convert the file format and try again.
  • Try Incognito mode

Sometimes extensions installed on your browser hinders the video playback in Drive natively. To solve this try opening the file in the incognito/private mode, which is supported by most of the latest browsers. The incognito mode disables all the extensions and will eliminate the error caused by any add ons.
  • Open the video in the new tab

Try opening the video in a new tab to do so right-click on the video and press preview. Inside the tab press three-dot on the right top corner and select open in a new window. Try playing the video now to check if the problem persists.
  • Make a copy

Your video file might have been stuck on a bad cache sector and thus resulted in not playing. To solve it right-click on the video file and select make a copy, try playing the copy of the video file to see if your problem is solved.
  • Toggle off block cookies

Open the browser setting and head to the security section. Here you will find settings related to cookies. Ensure that the cookies are enabled(Google Chrome image used for reference) Read Also: How can you block Google trackers on Chrome?
  • Sign out of multiple accounts

While Google allows you to sign in to multiple accounts, many users have reported that this creates an issue. To solve it tap on the profile photo on the top right corner, then press sign out.

Bonus Tip

If any of the above processes are not working for you, try using a different browser. There might be some bugs on the current version of the browser, try updating it to see if that solves the playback problem on your Google Drive. Samsung unveils industry-first LPDDR5X DRAM, which could appear in the upcoming Galaxy S22 series

Samsung has unveiled its very first and the industry-first LPDDR5X DRAM that will debut with the launch of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S22 Series. This is claimed to handle AI-powered apps. For high performance, the newly developed RAM is the industry’s first 14-nanometer (nm) based 16-gigabit (Gb) Low Power Double Data Rate 5X (LPDDR5X) DRAM that is claimed to easily manage tasks involving high-speed large scale data processing.  The LPDDR5X solution will broaden the use of high-performance, low-power memory beyond smartphones to AI and edge applications. In addition to this, this module will provide over 1.3x faster processing speeds and consumers nearly 20% less power than the previous LPDDR5 solution SangJoon Hwang, senior vice president and head of the DRAM Design Team at Samsung Electronics commented, “In recent years, hyperconnected market segments such as AI, augmented reality (AR) and the metaverse, which rely on extremely fast large-scale data processing, have been rapidly expanding. Our LPDDR5X will broaden the use of high-performance, low-power memory beyond smartphones and bring new capabilities to AI-based edge applications like servers and even automobiles.” LPDDR5X DRAM on Samsung Galaxy S22 LPDDR5X from Samsung is the next-gen mobile DRAM that is designed to significantly increase speed, capacity, and power savings for future 5G applications. In 2018, Samsung delivered the industry’s first 8Gb LPDDR5 DRAM and today, the company is aggressively moving beyond mobile markets with the first 16Gb LPDDR5X DRAM. The new LPDDR5X DRAM  will have data processing speeds of up to 8.5 gigabits per second (Gbps) which is said to be more than 1.3 times faster than LPDDR5. It will also consume approximately 20 percent less power than LPDDR5 memory due to its use of the industry’s most advanced 14nm DRAM process tech. Furthermore, the 16Gb LPDDR5X chip will support up to 64GB per memory package, meeting the growing global demand for higher-capacity mobile DRAM. The company says that it will begin working with global chip manufacturers to create a more viable framework for the expanding world of digital reality, with LPDDR5X  serving as a key component of that foundation later this year.  For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on TwitterFacebook and Instagram. For newest tech & gadget videos subscribe to our YouTube Channel.
