iPhones worth $19 million stolen over last the seven years by ‘Fraud Ring’: Report

In a rather shocking incident, a gang of fraudsters have reportedly managed to steal iPhone units worth $19 million over the last seven years in the United States. The FBI and the NYPD had named the gang as ‘Fraud Ring’ and it was run by six people called as ‘Top Dogs’. The gang managed to do all this by using fake IDs and counterfeit debit cards to buy new iPhones. They then sold these devices at a much bigger price tag in the black market. The scam could be carried out seamlessly because they opted for the instalment method to make payments.

The report about the case along with the details of victims and customers whose accounts were compromised first surfaced in the Quartz. The court filing of the case reads, “Associates using fake IDs and counterfeit debit cards went to mobile phone stores and posed as the legitimate account holders, looking to upgrade to new phones on their existing accounts. They would spread payments out over many months, which would come as a surprise on the actual customer’s next bill. By then, the scammers—and the devices—were already long gone.”

According to the report, the defendants are charged with the felony counts of mail fraud, conspiracy, and aggravated identity theft. It has also been reported that the theft by this gang was carried out in 34 US states and that a number of affected customers had not even been disclosed yet. The workings of the group were exposed by a cooperating witness (CW-1), who did this in exchange for a reduced sentence.

While most of the money of the fraud was made by the top leaders (Top Dogs) and it was the middlemen who carried out the rest of the illegal activities like stealing identities and phishing scams. There were people involved even at the bottom level of the fraud. However, they mostly did jobs like go to different locations to carry out the fraud and ship the units.

The cooperating witness had joined the ring in 2013 and he has roughly made 18 trips. He revealed that he was paid $100 for each iPhone that he managed to steal. However, it was in 2014 that a shipping company became suspicious about big packages being sent to a particular address, that did not belong to a person. An employee of the company then decided to open some of the packages and found nearly 250 iPhones along with fraud cards, passports and driver’s licenses. It is worth mentioning that the defendants have not pleaded guilty and have paid a bond of $100,000. They are also out on bail as of now.

Google Photos app starts receiving the dark mode with a new update: Here are all the details

Dark Mode has gained a lot of popularity in the last few months because it puts less strain on users’ eyes and saves battery life. A number of apps and platforms have rolled out the Dark Mode for their users and some are working on it. The latest app to join this list if Google Photos as the technology giant has already started rolling out the Dark Mode to it.

The version 4.17.0.249919200 of Google Photos comes with the much-awaited dark mode however, currently it is not being rolled out to all the users of the app. It will take some time for the application’s roll out with the dark mode for all the users. With this, Google Photos has become another product from Google to receive a dark theme after Google Chrome, Drive, Keep and Auto. We should mention that much like other Google applications to receive the dark mode, Google Photos does not have a pure OLED theme black but a dark grey. Other colourful aspects of the application have also been dialed down to a darker shade.

Earlier, when Android Lollipop was launched, Google decided to White-out every app along with the Android system. It did not include just the system settings, quick tile panels and the app drawer window, but even all of its Google-made products which were present in the device. It is already known that the AMOLED display panels are great in displaying colours, and they display the black colour better than the LCD display panels. That is one of the reasons the app developers and the device manufacturers themselves have started putting new dark theme to their system UI or the application itself. OF course, the fact that it saved the battery life of the smartphones is also a very key reason. Popular applications such as Reddit, Twitter, Pocket, YouTube and Messenger have already got the Dark Mode and Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook developing this mode.

Google will soon be launching its new Android Q and the company has also said that it will be rolling out a system-wide dark mode with the new operating system version. Other than the apps mentioned above to get the dark mode, Google is trying to bring the dark mode for all its platforms and services before the launch of the stable version of Android Q. At the Google I/O 2019, Android Q beta 3 was rolled out and it came out with an option with which the user can properly enable the system-wide dark mode. Once activated, the supported applications will also get darkened out.

Currently, Google Photos’ new update is being rolled out with the new mode but it is not available for all the users. To activate the dark mode, users would need to enable it through a server-side switch.

Parents in India rely on a mix of digital and experiential learning for children: HP Study

American technology company Hewlett-Packard or HP Inc has today announced some key India-specific findings of its HP New Asian Learning Experience Study. The study has explored how the personalities of Asian millennial parents define and influence learning for their children. According to HP’s study, parents in India rely on a mix of digital and experiential learning to make their kids future-ready.

Speaking about the study, Sumeer Chandra, Managing Director, HP Inc India said, “The New Asian Learning Experience study helps us understand the evolving mindsets of parents around learning and development of their children. This allows HP to provide better technology solutions that enhance learning, augment skills, and serve as foundational tools for children’s growth.”

According to the study, 22.7% parents who responded to the study are extremely concerned about their children’s future. The study states that among all the parents in Asia, these parents are ready to make “the broadest range of sacrifices” to make sure that their kids are imparted the right skilling that will be useful in future jobs. These parents are ready to invest in tuitions, move homes and family, send their kids abroad or settle there themselves along with their children and even borrow money/take loans.

The study also says that while parents in India believe that digital technology can expose their children to new cultures and ideas, they also think that such exposure needs to monitored closely. Parents in India think that the impact of experiential learning is complementary to digital learning. The reason for this is said to be that the right combination of the two provides knowledge along with the idea of implementation and this can be very helpful in the overall development of children.

According to the study, the parents also believe that the print medium of learning helps in reading comprehension and duration. On the other hand, digital learning facilitates creative and critical thinking, and it also helps in enhancing retention. The study states that more than half of the parents in India believe that children can perform better with a holistic mix of digital and experiential learning.

Commenting on the findings of the study, Leo Joseph, Sr Director, Printing Systems and Solutions, HP Inc India said, “The majority of parents in India are making efforts towards the overall development and skilling of their children contrary to the emphasis on academic and financial development in the past. As a technology leader, HP is supporting parents in providing holistic learning and development opportunities for their children. By equipping youth with the right technology, we are doing our part to help make them ready for the future.”

The company has also stated that it has a number of products that can be useful for students. These include its affordable printers like HP Ink Tank and HP DeskJet Ink Advantage.  The company’s HP Smart App can also help in printing, copying and scanning any documents using smartphones, making it very useful for students and professionals alike. It also has some PCs like HP 260 G2 Desktop Mini, HP Pavilion and HP ProBook portfolio of devices which can prove to be a good buy for students.

Microsoft’s Windows 10 Xbox app renamed to Xbox Console Companion ahead of E3 2019

Ahead of E3 2019, which is scheduled for June 11, 2019, Microsoft has updated its Xbox app for Windows 10. The Xbox app has now been updated with a new icon and name, which according to the company, will give a “new desktop experience”. This may be revealed at E3 2019 next week where major electronics and game companies are to reveal their new products and games. Other than the name of the app, nothing much has been changed, but the next update is expected to reinvent the Xbox app for Windows 10. In the next update, Microsoft will be looking for using it as a dashboard for the Xbox console settings and unspecified features.

The Xbox app for Windows 10 has been named to Xbox Console Companion and it will be a dedicated application for the Xbox console features and settings. When a user running Windows 10 will update their Microsoft Store app, they will see a message saying “Pardon our dust. This app is being renamed to Xbox Console Companion to be a dedicated app for your Xbox console features and settings. A new desktop experience is coming soon and requires an up to date version of Windows, so do be sure to update to the Windows 10 May 2019 Update and stay tuned for the latest.”

Other than this, Microsoft is planning to launch its xCloud online gaming service which will allow the game streaming between a user’s devices. There is also a possibility that the Xbox app could also have some features related to the xCloud online game streaming service which is expected to be unveiled at the E3 2019 next week. Other than the desktop app, the Android or iOS version of the app have not been changed yet.

Currently, the application allows the users to manage the installed games on their Windows 10 PCs, and it also gives them the option to browse games in the Microsoft Store. Other than that, the users can also manage their Xbox Live profiles, and can chat with their friends and participate in communities using the Xbox Windows 10 app. They can also check and share their in-game achievements and manage their images and video clips recorded using the console’s DVR feature. Lastly, using the Windows 10 Xbox app, the user can stream games from an Xbox One console to a Windows 10 PC.

More details about Microsoft’s new desktop experience will be revealed at the press conference which the California-based company will schedule on June 9 (1:30am IST on June 10) at the E3 2019. Here’s how Xiaomi’s under-screen camera will work

Notches on smartphone displays are now becoming a thing of past. Various technology companies across the world are now competing to make their handsets as full-screen and bezel-less as possible. Some companies placed the cameras of their smartphones in pop-up or rotating modules, others housed them in sliders and some even placed them inside the display. Recently, Xiaomi and Oppo showcased their technologies that hide the camera sensor beneath the screen of the smartphones. The two companies are working on a transparent display camera to ensure that they don’t have to place any notches on the displays of their devices.

Today, Xiaomi’s senior vice president Wang Xiang has tweeted a series of photos that explain the new technology in detail.  According to the images shared in the tweets, Xiaomi‘s implementation of the feature will have the camera embedded at the top of the display of the smartphone. While this is the usual protocol that all smartphone makers have been following, Xiaomi will not be putting a border around it or cutting a hole in the screen. Instead, the company will be covering the camera with a “special-low-reflective glass with high transmittance.”

The company has also said that the setup makes that area of the display to become more transparent to take pictures. Furthermore, the transparent display also doubles as the camera lens on top.

The Chinese smartphone brand has also said that it has not tried to make the camera and the invisible notch as small as possible, like other smartphone makers. This will allow the transparent display system to accommodate a larger sensor and deliver a better image quality than the existing waterdrop-shaped notches that are so popular.

However, we should point out that the technology system is not perfect as yet as in the images that have been shared by the company a faint outline of the camera lens beneath the display can be seen. However, we have to admit that this is still a useable area of the display and different from the ones that are used in other handsets. In addition to this, these cameras would not be problematic to those who are sceptical about using handsets that have movable camera parts like pop-up selfie sensors, flipping sensors and more.

But then, the Chinese smartphone brand has not announced which smartphone will actually come with this technology. The company has only said that it is “currently exploring the possibility.” We can only hope that it uses the technology in a device soon and we don’t have to wait too long for it.

Skype gets a new ‘Screen Share’ feature for Android and iOS apps; here’s how to use it

Skype is a video-calling platform that is used by anyone who is digitally connected at least some point in time. Earlier this year, Skype was testing a new feature for its Android and iOS apps called the Skype Screen Share. The Skype Screen Share feature is currently being rolled out for Android and iOS version of the app after being tested for two months. The new version of Skype can be downloaded by the users who have the latest version of Android and iOS 12. The Skype Screen Share feature does as its name suggests – it allows the users to share their mobile display screens with the person with whom they are on video call. The users can share their mobile screen with the other user on video chat with just a tap of a button.

Speaking more about the Skype Screen Share, the users can activate the new feature by first downloading the latest version of the application from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. After updating the Skype app to its latest version, the users can then make a video call and use the new Skype Screen Share feature by clicking/ tapping on the icon. This feature was seen being tested first for the Skype Insider users back in April 2019.

If the user wants to share their mobile screen with the person with whom he is on video call with, here’s what he needs to do:

  • Tap the three dots icon at the bottom of the app screen.
  • Select the ‘Screen Share’ option.
  • This will allow the user to share their smartphone screen with others on the video call.

This feature can prove to be useful in many instances, like when a user wants to share his PowerPoint presentation or online shopping with his contacts. Other than the Screen Share feature, the updated version of Skype also has new features such as call recording, subtitles, etc.

Other than that, the new updated Skype application has received a redesign in its UI and the way it looks and functions. Now, Skype has simplified the video calling, as the users can tap once to remove all the call controls from the screen, while a double tap will remove all the rest of the controls from the screen as well so that he can have a clutter-free video call. However, if the user wants to bring back all the controls, he can tap the screen once again which will bring back all the call and other controls on the video call screen.

Apple insists on placing its Sign In button above Google and Facebook’s

Cupertino-based technology giant Apple introduced a new ‘Sign In with Apple’ button during its WWDC 2019 event. The button will be an additional way of logging in to various web services that can be used by those who don’t wish to share their credentials with Facebook and Google. The company will be asking its developers to position the new ‘Sign In with Apple’ button in apps for iPhones and iPads above the buttons from Google and Facebook, according to design guidelines that have been released this week.

Apple has told developers to place its login button over its rivals because it is a part of its ‘Human Interface Guidelines’. We should mention that these are not formal requirements to pass the App Store review. However, most developers follow them anyway as they are considered to be the surest way to gain Apple’s approval as the rules for an app being on App Store are far stricter than the ones that have to be followed for Google Play Store.

Here’s a look at what the company has written under the Button Size and Position heading: “Prominently display a Sign In with Apple button. Make a Sign In with Apple button the same size or larger than other sign-in buttons, and avoid making people scroll to see the button… Position a Sign In with Apple button correctly in relation to other sign-in buttons. In a stacked layout, place the Sign In with Apple button above the other buttons.”

Needless to say, if most developers follow this, which they most likely will, then Apple will get the prime placement as most users often choose the default/top option on the apps.

The new button by Apple is centred around user privacy. Users will now be able to login with Apple instead of using their social media credentials to sign in to various web services. And suppose an app insists that you share your email, Apple will also offer to create a new email address use for the app instead. This email ID will automatically forward all the information to your real email ID.

We should mention that these login buttons are used a lot by users because it saves them from the trouble of remembering different email IDs and passwords for each app on their smartphone or tablet. However, these login buttons also send data about users’ habits back to their makers.

Another thing that is worth pointing out is that Apple’s guidelines are not imposing the button on any apps that do not have login buttons from Facebook and Google.

The Justice Manmohan order came on a plea that was filed by Telecare Network. The plea seeks to restrain Asus from directly or indirectly selling, offering and advertising mobile phones, accessories and any other related products or goods that fall under the trademark Zen, Zenfone or any identical trademarks.

Speaking on this, Telecare Network said that ‘Zen’ and ‘ZenMobile’ fall under the Trade Marks Act, 1999, but then, the company has been using them continuously and extensively in their feature phones, smartphones, tablets, and accessories. Asus has been selling these for more than a decade now – since 2008 to be precise.

According to the court, “the triple identity test is satisfied as the defendants (Asus) have made use of a deceptively similar/identical trademark (ZenFone) in relation to identical goods (mobile phones) having identical trade channels.”

It also added, “Consequently the defendants (Asus) having adopted a deceptively similar mark wherein the dominant part of the defendant’s mark ZenFone is the plaintiff’s (Telecare) mark Zen, for the same product i.e. mobile phones, shows prima facie that there is a likelihood of confusion and damage to the plaintiff’s goodwill.”

But it has been argued by Telecare Network that Asus’ mark is likely to cause confusion in the minds of the people who were associated and that the company acted with mala fide intent to ride upon its goodwill and reputation.

However, Asus has said that there is no scope of confusion in the minds of the consumers. The company also added that the reason behind this is that ‘ZenFone’ was always coupled with the mark ‘Asus’, which is very well-known itself.

With this, Asus would not be able to sell or market its smartphones, electronics, accessories or any other products under the brandings that have been mentioned by the court. These brandings include ‘Zen’ and ‘Zenfone’. We should also mention that the company will also not be able to advertise or promote any of its products with this.

As of now, the Taiwanese electronics maker has not said anything about how it plans to rework on the branding of its products so that they can continue to sell in India.

PlayStation Music makes its way to India

It was in 2015 that Sony announced that it was partnering with Spotify for the PlayStation Music service. It was then that the PlayStation Music app was launched on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Needless to say, it is a very popular service among those who like listening to songs, albums and playlists while playing games. Today, it has been announced by Sony and Spotify that the PlayStation Music app will be launched in more countries. The app will now be available in India, Argentina, Colombia, Lebanon, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, and Qatar.

Anyone who has not previously been a subscriber of Spotify Premium will get a month-long free trial of the app. We should also mention that users can link their Spotify app on iOS or Android smartphone to the PS4 app. By doing this, the smartphone can be used as a remote.

In its blog post, the company said, “With more than 50 million songs and 3 billion playlists, there are plenty of music choices for gamers to listen to while playing. You can access Spotify’s free service on PlayStation Music through your PS4 and PS3 system.”

We should also mention that Spotify recently started testing a new feature called ‘Social Listening’, which enables multiple users to add songs and make playlists in real time. But as of now, the ‘Social Listening’ feature is only being tested by the employees of the company. The company has also maintained silence on when it will be rolling out to the app’s over 100 million users across the globe.

Renowned reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong tweeted about the feature saying, “Spotify is working on ‘Social Listening’, letting friends control music together with their own devices. Scan Spotify Code or open link for it to begin.”

We should also mention that earlier this month, the company revealed that it is working on its first ever hardware, which is basically a voice-controlled music and podcast player called ‘Car Things’. The upcoming hardware by the company is aimed at cars. The test of ‘Car Things’ will be limited to the United States and the company will invite a select few Spotify Premium users for it. The company has also stated that it does not have any plans to launch the device for consumers in the near future.

How to browse Instagram with reduced image load time in areas with slow internet

0

Photo-sharing app Instagram is one among the most popular social media apps today. Youth and millennials are constantly choosing the app even over Facebook, which was the most popular social media network for years. In an attempt to get more people on board and to provide an uninterrupted Instagram browsing experience to its users in slow internet areas, the company has today announced a new feature designed to save data and reduce image loading time.

With the new Instagram opt-in mode, people across the world will be able to view their favourite content on the app with reduced image loading time. This will be made possible by reducing the amount of data that Instagram uses on the users’ smartphones.

However, the feature is not available everywhere in the world as it is only meant for emerging markets where data plans and internet speeds may be limited. With the feature, the videos on the app will not pre-load and high-resolution images would not be downloaded until the user opts for it. The aim is to give people more control over their data usage on Instagram and increase the speed for loading images.

We should mention that this feature will be useful to many in India. According to Speedtest Global index, India’s mobile internet speeds dipped in the month of April 2019. While in December 2018, the rank was 108, currently, it has come down to 121. Manish Chopra, Director and Head of Partnerships, Facebook India, while announcing this feature, said, “Instagram gets people closer to the people and things they love. The community’s power lies in visual storytelling and sharing amazing social video moments. With this data saver feature, we’re hoping for an uninterrupted Instagram experience in slow network areas, which in turn will increase people’s interactions with their friends and family.”

Here’s how you can enable the feature:

  1. Go to your Instagram profile and press on the three-lined icon on the top right.
  2. Press on the Settings option at the bottom.
  3. Go to Account and then select the option of ‘Cellular Data Use’.
  4. Turn this setting on to prevent the loading of videos and high-resolution media in advance.
  5. You will now be asked to choose from three options for how Instagram will show you high-resolution files: ‘Never’, ‘Wi-Fi only’ and ‘Cellular+Wi-Fi’.

As of now, if you are not able to see the feature, don’t panic. It is being rolled out in a phased manner and will reach everyone by the end of the week. Another thing worth mentioning is that this feature is available for Android only.

10 PUBG Mobile Mistakes to Avoid in 2019 (Pubg Tips and Tricks)

PUBG Mobile is among the most popular and addictive games today. Everyone wants to get the chicken dinner that the last standing man on the game gets. But not everyone can.

Here, we have listed down the mistakes that are keeping you away from getting your chicken dinner in PUBG Mobile. Take a look:

Common PubG Mobile Mistakes to Avoid when Playing PUBG Mobile

Long Range Shots Going Wrong

PUBG Mobile mistakes

This is a very important thing that you need to learn about playing PUBG Mobile.

If a long-range shot goes wrong, you won’t get the kill and at the same time, you will be disclosing your location, making it easy for someone else to kill you.

So make sure you practice them enough to get them right. If you think that you aren’t comfortable with the gun you are using, then avoid long-range shots.

You go to loot to an unpopular place

PUBG Mobile mistakes

The places on PUBG Mobile‘s map that are popular for loots are popular for a reason.

Try and stick to these. If you don’t do that and go to an unpopular place, chances are that you may not get very good loot.

This may make you look for a gun for the most part of the game and we all know how suicidal that is.

You are not paying attention to the Blue Zone

PUBG Mobile mistakes 3

Being out of the Blue Zone in PUBG Mobile may be one among the deadliest mistakes that you can make.

If you intend to be one among the last standing people, just pay attention to where the Blue Zone is and keep yourself inside it rather than outside.

The safe area, that is displayed as a White Circle, also falls under the Blue Zone.

You are not prioritizing threats correctly

PUBG Mobile mistakes 4

If multiple enemy teams show up, it can be hard to get out alive. But it is hard. Not impossible.

The best thing that you can do here is judge according to your position which one can be dealt with easily. Address them before you go to kill others.

You may also need to relocate yourself so that you can kill some enemies that then get a better position to kill others or for that matter, just escape.

Not being quick about looting

PUBG Mobile mistakes 5

Like we have mentioned earlier, not looting correctly at the right time can be suicidal. If you don’t refresh your loot timely, that is just as worse.

You need to pick up the right weapons whenever you have the chance in order to get your chicken dinner.

Driving too late

PUBG Mobile mistakes 6

Sometimes, when you are heading too late in the game towards a particular circle, you will not have enough time to look at your surroundings.

However, those around you may be tracking your location and it will be easy for them to kill you when you are running with your guard down.

Attacking enemies who are at better positions

PUBG Mobile mistakes 7

Your position in PUBG Mobile can be a factor that decides a lot in the game. If you get too ambitious and attack someone in a better position, you would most likely be inviting trouble.

In case you miss them, they’ll get to know of your exact location and since they are at a better position, they will definitely be able to kill you. We recommend you to avoid this.

Taking a stupid shot just to be unexpected

PUBG Mobile mistakes 8

We all know that unexpected shots work the best in PUBG Mobile. However, just to take an unexpected shot, make sure you don’t do something extremely farfetched or stupid.

It will only get you killed. It’s one thing to jump out of the window of the building you are hiding in and going behind your enemy’s back to kill him.

But it’s another thing to do the same when other enemies may be standing in close proximity too.

You are playing without a proper goal

PUBG Mobile mistakes 9

A number of players who play PUBG say that play to kill. However, that is not the goal of playing PUBG Mobile. The goal is to survive, preferably till the end.

If you play only thinking about killing, and not about saving yourself, you won’t get past for too long as you wouldn’t spend any time strategizing.

Scared to fight

PUBG Mobile mistakes 10

A lot of beginners face this problem. If you drop down and you don’t really know what to do, chances are that you will most likely be killed.

If you are a beginner, practice. Learn to use all the available weapons well and make use of them. Remember, you either fight to survive or you get scared and you die.

These are the best Pubg Tips and Tricks which help you to play the advance game in very lesser time.

This is the new release date of the Samsung Galaxy Home smart speaker

Samsung Galaxy Home has a lot in common with the now cancelled Apple AirPower mat. Both the products were shown to us once, managed to create a stir and make us wait for them, and have had multiple release deadlines. The difference is, of course, that one got cancelled and we are still hopeful for the launch of the other. In the latest development, Samsung CEO Hyun-suk Kim has said that Galaxy Home will ship sometime in Q3 2019.

Speaking to The Korea Herald, Kim said, “The Galaxy Home speaker, which will be the centre of Samsung’s home appliances, is planned to be launched in mid-second half of the year.” According to the report, some other executives of the company clarified that this actually means Q3 2019.

We should mention that Samsung Galaxy Home was initially announced in August 2018 when the South Korean technology giant unveiled the Galaxy Note 9. The product has since then been showcased many times, however, the company has not fully released it yet. Samsung’s DJ Koh had also promised that the Bixby smart speaker would start shipping in April. Needless to say, the company missed that deadline.

But that’s not all. Technology website The Verge had also spoken to Samsung representatives in May this year and they said that the company was “planning to launch Galaxy Home in the first half of 2019.” This indicated that the speaker should have been out by the end of June, however, that is not happening either.

We should mention that Q3 ends on September 30th for Samsung. Assuming that there would not be any further delays, Samsung Galaxy Home should be released prior to that. Samsung can actually make use of the August event that it holds to launch the Galaxy Note phablet. Considering that this year Samsung will be launching its Galaxy Note 10 phablets, it would only make the event extra special to see the Galaxy Home smart speaker be launched there too. If the company wants Samsung Galaxy Note to be in the spotlight during its August event, it can launch the Galaxy Home smart speaker at the IFA 2019.

Some reports also suggest that the smart speaker would not launch alone as the company will also be unveiling a Galaxy Home Mini, that has recently been passed through the FCC. This means that Samsung could various sizes of speakers in future.

Google Maps is getting 3 new India-centric features for a better navigation in cities

To help its Indian users, Google had added India-specific features on Google Maps time and again. Now, Google Maps is getting three new navigation features for Indian users who use public transportation to get around the city. The three new features Google Maps is getting for the Indian users are – Real-time bus travel information, Live Train status and mixed-mode navigation option. Each new feature aims to make the user who use public transportation to travel around the city easier.

The three new Google Maps features for the Indian users and what they do are listed below:

Real-time bus travel information

With this new feature, users will be able to see the delay they might face when travelling by bus. It will show the live traffic status of the route the bus has taken and show the ETA according to the traffic conditions. In case the bus is delayed, the user will get a message on their smartphones with red colour. The message will tell them the regular commute time and the time that will be extended due to the traffic in the bus’ route. However, if there is no delay and the bus in on time and then the user will receive a green message telling them that they are not late. The new feature will initially be launched in Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Mysore, Pune, and Surat.

Live Train Status

Google Maps now has made it easier for the Indian users to be aware of the trains they will be travelling in. This new feature will work as its name suggests, it will tell the users the live status of a train and check if it is delayed. But it should be noted that it will work only in the case of a long-distance train journey. According to Google, this new feature was developed in collaboration with the ‘Where is my Train’ application which was acquired by the company in 2018.

Mixed-mode navigation

This new feature comes with an auto-rickshaw recommendation and it is extremely useful for users who switch between a bus and auto or metro and auto to reach their destination. This feature of Google Maps will let the user know when they should take an auto-rickshaw and what station (bus or metro) will be the most suitable to take either local transports such as bus, metro or local train. Other than that, this feature will also tell the user the estimated fare of the auto-rickshaw and the departure of the public transport. Initially, the mixed-mode navigation will be available for users of Delhi and Bengaluru, it will also reach other Indian cities as well in the future.

Currently, the three new features for the Google Maps is not live either in a stable or beta version but it will soon roll out in the coming future.

Fossil Sport smartwatch with Google’s Wear OS launched in India

Technology giant Google’s Wear OS, which is popularly also known as Android Wear, has not had a very smooth past. Initially, it was launched at Google’s united platform for smartwatches and other wearable devices, the platform has seen a drop in its popularity over the last few years because Samsung‘s Tizen-based Galaxy Gear series and Apple Watch series have garnered a lot of appreciation and the companies’ loyalists stick to their wearables. However, some smartwatch makers continue to sell watches that come with Wear OS by Google. The latest to join this list is Fossil Sport smartwatch and that has been launched in India at Rs 17,995.

The Fossil Sport smartwatch was initially launched in November 2018 and it is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 SoC, which was announced by the American chipmaker last year. While the new Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 SoC was meant to revive the Wear OS smartwatch platform, we haven’t seen too many manufacturers go back to Google’s Wear OS platform. Fossil is among the few companies that have launched a new Wear OS product in India. The company has today launched its Fossil Sport smartwatch in the country today and the wearable has also gone on sale in India.

The processor is also said to enhance the battery life and Fossil Sport is claimed to last more than a day. However, the company has also added that your usage would make a difference. The newest offering by Fossil is available in two sizes. While one is 41mm in size, the other one is 43mm. The smartwatch comes with interchangeable watch straps that are 18mm and 22mm in size respectively.

Coming to the sensors, Fossil sport comes with a heart rate sensor, GPS, an altimeter, gyroscope, accelerometer, ambient light sensor, and microphone. The Fossil smartwatch is compatible with Android as well as iOS and can be connected to various devices using Bluetooth. The newest offering by the company is available to buy online as well as offline via various channels.

You can also buy it from various major retailers and Fossil stores in the country. Fossil Sport is a good option to consider for anyone who owns an Android smartphone. However, it goes against the Samsung Gear lineup that is also compatible on a wide range of Android devices. Only time will tell if Fossil’s new offering is able to survive along with other smartwatches in the market.

Microsoft to get an Xbox ‘desktop experience’ for Windows 10

Software giant Microsoft is all set to change the way its Xbox app works on Windows 10. Previously, the app was the primary way of accessing the Xbox friends lists, messages and party features on a PC. Now, the company has updated the Xbox app on Windows 10 and renamed it as “Xbox Console Companion.” Microsoft has also sent an update message to users that says, “This app is being renamed to Xbox Console Companion to be a dedicated app for your Xbox console’s features and settings.”

At the same time, Microsoft is also teasing that it has other plans for the Xbox app on Windows 10. The message by the software giant further said, “A new desktop experience is coming soon!” However, as of now, it is not clear exactly what the new desktop experience will be like. The company recently also updated its Game Bar on Windows 10 and it is worth noticing that the Game Bar is now on a full overlay similar to Nvidia’s GeForce Experience or Discord.

There are also a number of widgets that have been added to Xbox features including LFG, messages, and friends. In a way, this also makes the Xbox app irrelevant.

A number of Xbox fans also assumed that the company would close down its app on Windows 10. However, Microsoft’s plans seem to be different than that. It seems like the company has plans to create a different desktop app for Xbox that users will be able to access via PC. The company’s gaming chief Phil Spencer has admitted last year that the software giant has a “ton of work to do on Windows”. He also added that this work was meant for PC gamers.

We should mention that E3 gaming event is right around the corner and because of that, it looks like we would get to hear more about the company’s plans for PC gamers soon.

Recently, Microsoft also announced that its Xbox Game Pass subscription service is coming to its Windows platform. This subscription will come with over 100 games from more than 75 developers, which is a lot more compared to fewer than 20 titles that can be accessed via Xbox Game Pass on PC. This obviously means that Microsoft has signed deals with other new developers too.

As of now, there is no word on which games will be made available and how much the subscription will cost. There is also no news on when exactly the new service will be available. Microsoft has added that it will be announcing more details about the Game Pass for PC at the E3 which is scheduled for next month.

How to authorize and deauthorize iTunes on Windows 10 and MacOS?

Apple may have disintegrated iTunes into three separate apps, but the company has confirmed to a technology website that no changes will be made to the service on the Windows platform.

While iTunes on iPhones, iPads, iPods or other iOS-based smart devices has been split into Music, Podcasts, and TV, the service will continue to work in the same way on Windows, according to Ars Technica.

To make iTunes run on Windows 10 OS, you need to authorize your account. Here we are listing down the ways by which you can authorize and de-authorize a PC running on Windows 10 or macOS:

How to authorize iTunes on Windows 10:

  1. First, you need to download the iTunes application for Windows 10. The app comes in 32-bit and 64-bit variant so you will have to download according to your PC type.
  2. Then, sign in or sign up using your Apple ID.
  3. Then, go to Account on the menu bar or press Ctrl+B from the keyboard.
  4. Then, select Authorizations and then select Authorize this computer.
  5. After that you need to enter your password and click the Authorize. This will authorize the computer to use iTunes on it.

How to deauthorize iTunes on Windows 10:

  1. Deauthorizing the iTunes is also a simple task. First, you need to open iTunes and then sign in using your Apple ID which you used during authorizing the PC.
  2. Then you need to go to Account or press Ctrl+B from the keyboard.
  3. After that, go to Authorizations and then click on Deauthorize this Computer.
  4. After that, enter your password and the press the Deauthorize. The Windows 10 running PC will be deauthorized.

For those unaware, Apple iTunes now exists as three different apps. The company announced at its WWDC 2019 event that going forward, the iTunes app will exist as Music, Podcasts, and TV apps. This change has been a long-awaited one.

While iTunes is working as it was on Windows, there is no word on till when this will remain intact. It is highly unlikely that Apple will just leave one platform with the older version of iTunes, especially considering that scores of users find it very problematic to use iTunes.

However, if you were having trouble authorizing or deauthorizing the service on Windows, now you know how to go about it, although there is no guarantee till when this will come handy.

It is clear that the Rs 299 prepaid plan of Vodafone is aimed at users who are inclined towards a prepaid plan that offers more validity. The plan is also meant for those who prefer to have predominantly unlimited local and STD benefits.

As we mentioned earlier, the Rs 299 recharge prepaid plan is not available for all the telecom circles in the country. On the company’s website, the availability of Vodafone’s new recharge plan is found in only a few telecom circles including Mumbai, Gujarat, and Punjab. The new recharge plan by Vodafone was first spotted by Telecom Talk.

Subscribers who are looking for an unlimited prepaid recharge plan in the same price bracket but want more allowance can go for another recently launched offer that is priced at Rs 229. This offer comes with 2GB of daily data, unlimited calling, 100 messages per day, and has a validity of 28 days. So those who are looking for a plan with more validity can opt for Rs 299 plan, and the ones who are looking for more allowance can go for Rs 229 one.

We should mention that Airtel, Vodafone and Reliance Jio are constantly coming up with lucrative offers for their customers. In order to compete with each other, they are always getting cheaper and affordable plans for their consumers.

The drastic fall in the prices of the telecom industry has happened only after Reliance Jio forayed into it with dirt cheap recharge offers which offered unlimited calling and SMS benefits. The company also started offering 4G data at rock bottom prices and this changed the game completely for other players. They had to cut down prices of their plans to in order to survive.
