Facebook files lawsuit against 12 domain names registered by India-based proxy service

0
With an aim to prevent fraud and stop the malicious use of Facebook company and product names, the Mark Zuckerberg-led company has now filed a lawsuit in Virginia against 12 domain names registered by India-based proxy service Compsys Domain Solutions Private Ltd. According to the social networking giant, these domain names were designed to deceive people by impersonating as Facebook’s family of apps, like: facebook-verify-inc.com, instagramhjack.com and videocall-whatsapp.com. “We regularly scan the internet for domain names and apps that infringe on our trademarks and today’s lawsuit is part of this ongoing effort to protect people from phishing, credential theft and other methods of online fraud. We filed suit after we reached out to Compsys about these domain names and did not receive any response,” Christen Dubois, Director and Associate General Counsel, IP Litigation at Facebook, said in a blog post. According to Facebook, Registrars and proxy services have a responsibility to take down deceptive and malicious websites. Asserting that the social-networking giant will continue to take legal action to protect the people who use its services, Dubois added, “We filed similar lawsuits against Namecheap and its proxy service this past March, and OnlineNIC and its proxy service in October 2019.” Meanwhile, Facebook has also executed its plan to label media outlets that are wholly or partially under the editorial control of their respective government. The aim is to bring more transparency to its users for understanding who’s behind the news they see on Facebook. “We’re providing greater transparency into these publishers because they combine the influence of a media organization with the strategic backing of a state, and we believe people should know if the news they read is coming from a publication that may be under the influence of a government,” Nathaniel Gleicher, Head of Cybersecurity Policy at Facebook, said in an official blog post. Moreover, Facebook will also start labelling ads from state-controlled media outlets later this year to ensure the users that it’s equally transparent when it comes to paid content. According to social-networking giant, “State-controlled media outlets rarely advertise in the US. Nevertheless, later this summer we will begin blocking ads from these outlets in the US out of an abundance of caution to provide an extra layer of protection against various types of foreign influence in the public debate ahead of the November 2020 election in the US.” For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on TwitterFacebook and Instagram. For newest tech & gadget videos subscribe to our YouTube Channel. COVID-19 crisis: Google Maps rolls out new features to help you navigate safely

0
In the unprecedented times of this COVID-19 outbreak when countries across the globe are trying to get back on track by reopening, it becomes extremely important for us one of us to gather the right information about the routes we are taking before and during the trip to be able to travel safely. For this, Google Maps has now introduced new features to help you easily find important information if you need to venture out, whether it’s by car or public transportation. These features are accessible by both Android and iOS users. If a user searches for public transit directions for a trip that is likely to be affected by COVID-19 restrictions, Google Maps will show relevant alerts from local transit agencies. With the help of these alerts, you’ll get to know if government mandates impact transit services or require you to wear a mask on public transportation and prepare accordingly. According to Ramesh Nagarajan, Product Management Director at Google Maps: “Transit alerts are rolling out in Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, France, India, Mexico, Netherlands, Spain, Thailand, United Kingdom and the U.S. where we have information from local transit agencies, with more coming soon.” “We’re also introducing driving alerts to notify you about COVID-19 checkpoints and restrictions along your route, like when crossing national borders (starting first in Canada, Mexico and the U.S.). You’ll see an alert on the directions screen and after starting navigation if your route is impacted by these restrictions,” he added. If a user is navigating to medical facilities or COVID-19 testing centres, Google Maps will show an alert reminding you to verify eligibility and facility guidelines to avoid being turned away or causing additional strain on the local healthcare system. The alerts for medical facilities, which is starting this week, will be accessible in Indonesia, Israel, the Philippines, South Korea, and the US, and testing centre alerts will be available in the US. Besides this, Google Maps are actively working with other agencies around the world to bring even more of this helpful data to its users. In 2019, the teach giant had introduced crowdedness predictions for public transit in Google Maps. “We’re now making it simpler for people to contribute crowdedness information for their transit lines. Look up Directions, tap through to see the Transit Details, then scroll down to find crowdedness predictions (where available) and easily contribute your own experiences,” an official Google blog post revealed. In addition to this, Google Maps has recently announced new insights like temperature, accessibility and security onboard, as well as designated women’s sections in regions where transit systems have them. Now available globally, these insight will help Google Maps users find feedback from past riders when available and submit your own, right alongside public transit routes. To help wheelchair users around the world know before they go, Google Maps has added more granular accessibility information for people to find and contribute, including where there are wheelchair accessible doors, seating, stop buttons and more. Do let us know what precautions you are adopting to safely venture out during this COVID-19 phase in the comments section below. WhatsApp’s multi-device support to be launched soon

0
Since a long time, rumour mills have been churning news that WhatsApp will soon enable its users to use their accounts on multiple devices at the same time as its working on multi-devices support. As of now, WhatsApp users can access the instant messaging app on other devices like desktops or laptops only via WhatsApp Web. But now a WABetainfo report has revealed that the Facebook-owned instant messaging app has started with internal testing of the much-anticipated multi-devices feature for WhatsApp users. Mind you! The WABetainfo report has yet mention by when WhatsApp will roll out this feature. According to a Twitter post by Wabetainfo, “From now on WhatsApp is internally starting some important tests for the multi device feature. It’s not available yet and there isn’t a release date: it could be next two months, four months, six months… but it’s really positive that they have started to test it on the whole.” With the launch of multi-devices support, it is believed that WhatsApp could make on iPad too. In March, WhatsApp Dark mode was made available on iPhone and Android. Dark mode for WhatsApp offers a fresh look on a familiar experience. It’s designed to reduce eye strain in low light environments. And we hope it helps prevent those awkward moments where your phone lights up the room. According to a blog post by WhatsApp, “When designing dark mode we spent time researching and experimenting with a focus on two particular areas:
  1. Readability: When choosing colours, we wanted to minimize eye fatigue and use colours that are closer to the system defaults on iPhone and Android respectively.
  2. Information Hierarchy: We wanted to help users easily focus their attention on each screen. We did this by using colour and other design elements to make sure the most important information stands out.”
In order to access WhatsApp Dark mode, Users on Android 10 and iOS 13 can enable it in system settings. On the other hand, WhatsApp users on Android 9 and below can go into:
  • WhatsApp Settings
  • Then, open Chats
  • Now click on Theme
  • Select ‘Dark’

George Floyd Death: Know how Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella shows solidarity with Black Community

0
After Google and Twitter, Microsoft has finally showed support to the Black Community. In an email from CEO Satya Nadella to Microsoft employees, the 52-year-old said, “As we see the everyday racism, bias and violence experienced by the Black and African American community, the tragic and horrific murders of so many, the violence in cities across the US, it is time for us to act in all arenas.” With calls for action, calls for reflection, calls for change from Microsoft employees over the past several days, Nadella said his response is this: “Yes. We have to act.” The actions must reflect the values of Microsoft company and be directly informed by the needs of the Black and African American community. “We must continue to nurture the energy and passion that the Blacks at Microsoft employee resource group fueled in all of us since its founding in 1989. We have been on a cultural transformation journey and must accelerate our pace of change. Each of us, starting with me, must look at where we are as individuals, confront our fixed mindset and act. Our humanity is what calls out to us to make the world a better place,” added Nadella. Microsoft will deepen its engagement with six organizations that are advancing social justice, helping community organizers address racial inequality, and offering solidarity to the Black community: Black Lives Matter Foundation, Equal Justice Initiative, Innocence Project, The Leadership Conference, Minnesota Freedom Fund, and NAACP Legal Defense & Education Fund. “This starts with a company donation of $250,000 to each of these organizations ($1.5 million in total), followed by a company match of our employees’ contributions to eligible organizations. Together, through your giving and the company match, we have donated more than $15 million to civil rights, social action, and advocacy nonprofit organizations since 2015,” stated the Microsoft CEO. In Microsoft’s Employee Town Hall last week, Nadella said “each of us – starting with me and the senior leaders at the company – has a role to play. We cannot episodically wake up when a new tragedy occurs. A systemic problem requires a holistic response.” Stating that he is heartbroken by the deep pain the communities are feeling, the Microsoft CEO said “The results of systemic racism, which have impacted opportunities and exacerbated injustices for Black and African American communities, urge me to consider my own role as a leader. I must continue my journey of understanding and empathy and examine actions I take, or don’t take, every day. Listening and learning from my Black and African American colleagues is helping me develop a better understanding of their experience. And I take accountability for my own continued learning on the realities of privilege, inequity and race and modelling the behaviour I want to see in the world.” While addressing the Microsoft employees, Nadella added that as a company, we need to look inside, examine our organization, and do better. Microsoft needs to embrace the same speed and mindset that we do in anticipating and building for future technological shifts. With each passing day, Microsoft works to bridge the gap between the culture all espouse and the daily lived experience. Besides this, Microsoft invests in the talent pipeline broadly as it has expanded its connections with Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The company also has to create an environment where all voices are heard and valued. “I ask each of us to recommit to our shared D&I priority, participate in our inclusion learning programs, use the tools and resources we have shared on becoming an effective ally for others. We have the capabilities to make Microsoft more diverse and inclusive, but we must do the work, added Nadella. Mitron app revived back on Google Play Store few days after it was turned down, while Remove China Apps remains delisted

After staying away from Google Play Store days after being removed from by the tech giant Google the TikTok clone is finally back on the Play Store. The company has removed the short video app from its platform for violating its  “Spam and Minimum Functionality” policy.  In a similar way, before the Miton app was removed, Remove China Apps was also delisted along with other apps from Google Play Store. However later we got to know that the developers of the Mitron app were in talks with the tech giant to fix issues related to the company’s policies. The company’s head  Sameer Samat via a blog post revealed that the company had given the developer of the application some guidance for facilitating the application’s return to Play Store. However, the Mitron app has been restored after some design changes. The developers have also updated its privacy policy pace whereas the promoter’s website has now been updated. We hardly see any chances that the tech giant would give a send thought to bring back Remove China Apps. To recall the app managed to cross more than 50 million downloads on Google’s platform. The app is an alternative to Chinese TikTok on June two the app was taken down from the Google Play Store for violating its policy which says that  “Apps should provide value to users through the creation of unique content or services.” It also states that the app should provide a “basic degree of functionality and a respectful user experience.”  On the removal of the app Sameer Samat, Vice President, Android and Google Play said, “A number of recent app removals received particular attention in India and we wanted to clarify our actions. We recently suspended a number of apps for violating the policy that we don’t allow an app that encourages or incentivizes users into removing or disabling third-party apps or modifying device settings or features unless it is part of a verifiable security service.” He further added  “Earlier this week, we removed a video app for a number of technical policy violations. We have an established process of working with developers to help them fix issues and resubmit their apps.  We’ve given this developer some guidance and once they’ve addressed the issue the app can go back up on Play.” For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on TwitterFacebook and Instagram. For newest tech & gadget videos subscribe to our YouTube Channel. Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series and the Galaxy Fold 2 are most likely to get launched on August 5

The last time the Korean Giant Samsung electronics hosted a separate event to unveil  Galaxy Note 10 series and Galaxy Fold. But this time the company is planning not to hold separate events to release the successors of both smartphones. In fact, it is going to be unveiled at a dedicated event in the coming month. On August 5 Samsung is expected to host an Unpacked 2020 digital event amid the coronavirus pandemic. At the launch event, the company will unveil Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series and the Galaxy Fold 2 which is the successor of Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Fold that were introduced last year in 2019.  A report by a South Korean publication The Dong-A Ilbo suggests that Samsung Electronics will hold an event to unveil new Galaxy smartphones, including the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Fold 2, on August 5 at the Unpacked 2020. This time the company has decided to take the support of online launch events instead of inviting domestic and overseas media companies due to coronavirus.  A staff member of Samsung Electronics has revealed to the publisher that, “Internal discussions are taking place, but the plan to hold the Galaxy Unpacked event on August 5 is being reviewed favorably,” That means that the company’s flagship devices are expected to get launched in the second half of the year. Like always the Unpacked event is going to take place in New York.  An industry insider also revealed that “As COVID-19 is still spreading and anti-racism protests are worsening in the U.S., this year’s event is likely to be held online,” So besides the pandemic, the anti-racism protests in the US is another reason that Samsung will go for a virtual event to launch Galaxy Note 20 series and the Galaxy Fold 2.  The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 is most likely to be offered in two variants: a regular 6.7-inch display while the Plus variant will come with a 6.9-inch display. The speculations are being made that this time Galaxy Note 20 Plus will change to Ulta. Prior to the launch, the pricing of Samsung’s upcoming foldable phone’s pricing has also been leaked on the web. As per a leak Galaxy Fold 2 is expected to be priced between $1,880 and $1895 that translates to Rs 1,44,000 whereas the sipping of the devices will begin later in September. The second generation of Galaxy Fold will retain the form factor of its predecessor but this time it will come with a bigger display, upgraded cameras, SPen and 5G support.
