WhatsApp spotted testing ‘disappearing messages’ feature

As technology is evolving so does people’s expectations and WhatsApp has been working to improve its app that is used by billions of people across the globe. Looking to the future Facebook-owned WhatsApp is working on new security and privacy feature. The app was spotted testing a feature called disappearing messages that will allow its user to send a message that will automatically vanish after a set period.

The disappearing messages feature was first spotted by WABetaInfo that was pushed out to the WhatsApp beta version for Android. The update carries version number v2.19.275. Currently, the instant messaging app is working on it to make it bugs free before it is released for general public usage.  The website said, “there is no issue if you have updated your WhatsApp beta version and it’s not visible for you, seen that it’s under development.” Until now there is no information when this feature will arrive for everyone but it is expected to be released in the next updates.

Disappearing Messages feature will automatically delete a chat or a particular message after a set period of time. Within the Group Info settings, the users can spot an option “Disappearing messages”. Tap the option and a list of options will open which will allow you to select message expiration time such as OFF, 5 seconds and one hour. Selecting this option will automatically fade away all the traces of a message that you want to erase automatically from your chats within a set period. Here we would like to mention that this feature was spotted in Group Info, This means the disappearing messages feature will be applicable to the Group chats and not to the private chats.

“The feature is in an alpha stage of development: it means that WhatsApp is just starting to work on it, and no ETA is available to know when the feature will be available for everyone. Be sure that WhatsApp is actively working on the feature, in order to make it perfectly work for you.”

The Chinese smartphone company Motorola’s most iconic smartphone Moto Razr will now come in a redesigned version. The Lenovo owned company is going to bring the smartphone in the market in a few months but before the end of 2019. As per a report the company is working on its foldable phone. The report says that the foldable phone will debut in the US and in Europe sometime in November.

As per a report by CNET Motorola is planning to revive Razr Flip phone and would follow the footprints of Samsung and Huawei by postponing the launch of its folding phone. Recently the Samsung Fold had been put on sale in the US market also when this new landed on the internet. A report also popped up earlier this year revealing the specification of the upcoming folding phone. The report suggests that the Razr will come with a 6.2 inches display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor. The phone is expected to offer 64 GB or 128GB of internal storage options. Facebook has started testing hiding like count on its platform

Earlier this month we reported that Facebook is working on to remove the like count feature on its platform. Now the social media giant has finally started testing the removal of the user’s public likes from their post. The company will start testing this feature in Australia first. However, it is not confirmed if the features will expand to other regions also, but a test will make the company decide what to do next.

From now on Facebook will remove the public visibility of Likes, reactions and video view count from people’s posts and ads across its platform in Australia. This means the user will be able to like and add reactions to their friend’s posts,  but will not be able to view how many people reacted and liked that post. This can only be viewed by the author of the post who will be able to view the number of reactions or likes they received on their posts. This means this information will not be public anymore.

First reported by Engadget, Facebook told “We will gather feedback to understand whether this change will improve people’s experiences” The company took to this move because getting fewer likes brings down the self-esteem of the user and they stops posting anything on the social media platforms. This bold move will stop users from sharing pictures and messages to get more likes.

This move will let them post what they like but not what get them likes. This change can only be seen by the person who posted the picture or a video but not to their fans or friends. This move may improve the mental health of the users which will bring positive impact to the user as well as Facebook. This change will inspire the users to share freely instead of deleting the previous posts, which earned fewer likes.

Earlier, Facebook also ran this change on the photo-sharing app Instagram. First, it was brought to Canada and it was further expanded to Australia, Brazil, Ireland, Italy, Japan and New Zealand. For Instagram also, people were not able to view the number of likes they were getting on their post.

YouTube introduced new search filters to find and filter comments easily

The largest video streaming platform in the world, YouTube, where every day millions of videos are uploaded is improving itself. Here you can search for any video across various topics. These days the company is coming up with new features for its viewers as well as its content creators to make it more user-friendly. Earlier also it set new rules around community contributions in order to stop trolling. Now the video streaming platform has introduced a new feature for managing comment sections to filter questions and comments separately.

As per YouTubes blog post, it has launched new comment search filters in YouTube. This feature will make it easier for the creators to find and respond to the comments that are most relevant.

You can easily filter comments by:

  • Response status: have I already responded to this comment?
  • Contains question: does the comment contain a question?
  • Subscriber count: does the commenter have at least 1K/10K/100K/1M/10M subs?
  • Subscriber status: is the commenter publicly subscribed to me?
  • Member status: is the commenter a member?

To start using the new search filter first go to YouTube studio now from the left menu click on the Comments tab and use the filter bar at the top of the page. This will allow you to narrow your search for specific comments by combining different filters.

The blog post also says. “Previously, searching by keyword only showed you comments with an exact match (so searching “subs” would only find “subs”). With this update, you’ll see search results beyond exact match (so now you’ll also see “subscriber” or “subscribers” for that same search).”

The company also confirmed that it is working on expanding more filter options to the system. Previously, to manage conversations within the community it also brought creator hearts, comment pinning and a new setting to hold potentially inappropriate comments for review.

To recall, YouTube has also set new rules to stop the misuse of its translation features. The new rules say that the contributed comment translations would only be posted on its platform after the approval of the Channel’s owner. This would avoid the abusive translations being published on a particular channel. This will make tough for trolls and harassment to sneak into a channel.
