How to download and install the new iOS 13 beta build in your iPhone?

0

Apple has finally released the public version of its new iOS 13 beta. Although the stable version of the new OS is still months away, users can download and install the new OS in their devices and give it a test run. They can install the new iOS 13 and see what changes it has brought to the iPhones. Some of the new features have already been announced by the company at the WWDC 2019. But it’s always a different experience to actually use these features.

According to Apple, the new iOS 13 has a 30% faster face unlocking capability than the previous iOS. It also claims that the apps can now open twice as fast as they did in iOS 12. One of the most anticipated feature of the iOS 13 is the system wide dark mode which will darken the apps and background. It is also claimed to help in saving the battery life of the device. According to Apple, the dark mode will be supported by all the first party applications as well as app dock and notifications. Siri is also getting a new voice with the iOS 13.

But it should be kept in mind that not all the iPhone models will support the iOS 13. The only iPhones that can run the iOS 13 are – iPhone X-series, iPhone XS-series, iPhone 8-series, iPhone 7-series, iPhone 6-series, iPhone SE and iPod Touch (7th gen).

Here’s how you can install the iOS 13 public beta version in your iPhone (if it falls in the abovementioned list):

  1. First go to Apple’s beta software website from Safari browser. Keep in mind that the website won’t open in any browsers like Chrome or Firefox.
  2. Once the website opens, you need to click on “Enroll Your Devices” present at the top of the page.
  3. After that, click on “iOS”. On doing this, a reminder will open which will remind you to send a backup of your iPhone’s contents to your macOS PC. This is important because if you want to go back to the old OS, then you would need this backup file.
  4. After this, scroll down and look for a button with “Download Profile” written on it. Once clicked, it will bring a warning that will say that the website it trying to download a configuration profile. Click on “Allow”. This will download the configuration profile to your device.
  5. After that, a pop-up window will open that will say that you can set the new profile from the Settings app. Head to Settings, and then go to General and click on Software update.
  6. Tap on Download and Install.
  7. Once the new iOS 13 beta is downloaded, you can click on Install to download the beta build in your iPhone.

Keep in mind that since the iOS 13 is still in its beta version it may come with its own share of bugs. You can give feedback and report of the bugs and problems that you find in the new iOS 13 beta build. Hopefully, they will be fixed in the stable version of the new OS.

Apple’s iPhone 11 new case and screen protector reveal a protruding camera module

0

Apple is scheduled to launch its next iteration of iPhones later this year and it is expected to launch more than one iPhone models. This year’s model will be called iPhone 11 and it will have the most unique design seen in an iPhone till now. But even before its launch, the camera module and the exterior of the iPhone 11 has already been leaked. According to the leaks, the iPhone 11 will be sporting a triple rear camera setup placed in a square camera module. Although the company hasn’t confirmed it yet, but all the leaks state the same thing and that hints that the upcoming iPhone will hold the very same camera design.

According to the recent leaks, there will be three iPhone 11 models this year – the Phone 11 R, iPhone 11 and the iPhone 11 Max – although the names of the devices might vary. The rear cameras of the upcoming iPhone 11 will be the main focus point of this year’s iPhones. Apple is reportedly developing a dedicated night mode camera for improving the low light photography of the iPhone 11. There is also news is that the upcoming iPhone 11 will have 128GB of internal storage as its base variant, and this can also mean an increase in the starting price.

Recently, the cases of the iPhone 11 Max, the successor to the iPhone XS Max from the case maker Olixar have surfaced online. The cases are currently on sale even months before the launch of the official devices. If you are interested, you can head to UK retailer MobileFun’s online store to find them. It looks as if the camera placed in the module will be protruding as the case maker has also released a camera protector to prevent it from scratches.

Other than back covers, Olixar is also making and selling screen protectors for the upcoming iPhone 11 as well. Looking at their design, it seems as if the Cupertino-based technology giant will be adding additional sensors at the front of the smartphone.

A recent leak suggests that the upcoming iPhone 11’s triple-rear camera setup will pack a main camera, a telephoto lens and an ultra-wide lens. There are also hints of packing a quad-LED flash and secondary microphone placed in the square camera cut out module itself. With iOS 13’s beta build released today, the company claimed that the Face Unlock is 30% faster. So we might see a better face unlocking mechanism in the upcoming iPhone.

With iPhone 11’s launch on the horizon, it remains to be seen what new technologies Apple brings to the market. As a number of leaks earlier suggest that the device will come with a new iPhone with 5G support, however, it is highly unlikely that we would see it before 2020.

Microsoft warns users of a disguised Excel attachment that carries a notorious malware

Microsoft is one among the well-known and biggest PC operating systems in the world right now and due to this, the company’s products are used by a majority of the people. However, it is also one of the reasons that it is constantly targeted by hackers, viruses, malware and other infections. Previously, we saw that the around 1 million computers running Windows OS were exposed to a security exploit. Now, the company has made the headlines again as a new malware is attacking the Windows system using Microsoft’s own MS Office software’s macro functions. The malware uses the complex infection chain to download and run the FlawedAmmyy RAT malware directly to the PC’s memory.

The malware attacks start with an email and an .xls attachment. The attachment has content written in Korean language that hints that the malware has currently made Korean users as its primary target. The malware uses malicious macro features of the MS Excel spreadsheet attachment to attack the Windows PC.

According to a security firm Proofpoint, the malicious attack campaign was started by a group named TA505. They were caught in the past using similar patterns to attack the PC using malware. The security firm further states that this time, the group is using a malicious email along with an Excel attachment which Microsoft itself has asked the users not to open.

Microsoft has warned the users about the malware attacks using its Twitter account. It has tweeted, “When opened, the .xls file automatically runs a macro function that runs msiexec.exe, and that, in turn downloads an MSI archive. The MSI archive contains a digitally signed executable that is extracted and run[s], and that decrypts and runs another executable in memory.”

Microsoft has also said that its Threat Protection defends the users from this type of attacks. According to the company, “Cloud-based machine learning protections in Microsoft Defender ATP blocked all of the components of this attack at first sight, including the FlawedAmmyy RAT payload. Office 365 ATP detects the email campaign.”

Once the user downloads the attachment on his system, the malware also installs a file named wsus.exe. The downloaded file is then decrypted and it is designed in such a way that it would pass off as an official Microsoft Windows Service Update Service (WSUS). The digital signature of the file is signed on June 19 and it then decrypts the payload it is carrying in the RAM. The payload is none other than FlawedAmmyy Rat that has a notorious reputation.

Oppo teases its under-display camera technology a day before the launch

Chinese smartphone brand Oppo had earlier teased the selfie camera that is placed under the display of its upcoming handset. Now, the company has taken to microblogging website Twitter to say that we will be getting to see more of this technology very soon.

However, we should mention that there is not too much information that accompanies the tweet. All that it talks about is its plans to show a new solution for full-screen displays at the MWC Shanghai in June 2019. However, this is something that we knew already because the media invite to the company had leaked earlier.

The company has shared a 15-second video that has been embedded with a tweet that shows the progression that smartphones have gone through over the years. One can also see the clever ways a selfie camera has been included in the handsets and how the bezel has been shrinking increasingly.

The evolution also shows Oppo’s manually flip around selfie camera, the notch and the slide out front cameras. Other than this, we also get to see a full-screen display that has a circular outline where the sensor is hidden underneath the display.

Oppo’s tweet just read, “A brand new solution for full-screen display. OPPO Innovation Event @GSMA MWC Shanghai, June 26. Stay tuned. #MoreThanTheSeen #MWC19.”

In the previous teaser, the tweet showed off a disguised smartphone with a full-screen display. However, then the camera app of the smartphone opens up to reveal a live view camera underneath the screen.

As of now, there is no information about the specifications, details and the quality of the camera that hides behind the screen of the smartphone. It is expected that Oppo will be giving us more information about how the camera works and what its quality is like soon.

It is also worth mentioning that Oppo is not the only smartphone maker that has expressed its interest in under-display camera technology. Other companies like Xiaomi and Honor are also working on similar technologies and are expected to announce their respective offerings soon.

Since last year, a number of companies have found ways of hiding the selfie camera in ways that help them provide a completely full-screen experience. While Vivo has used a pop-up selfie camera module in a number of devices, Oppo came up with the camera slider that was also copied by others. This year, we have seen the rotating camera module from Samsung, and now, we are all set to see an under-display camera technology getting launched.

Huawei Mate 30 Lite will be powered by a new HiSilicon Kirin 810 SoC and sport a quad-camera setup: Report

0

Huawei’s last flagship smartphone was the P30 Pro that was launched earlier this year. The Huawei P30 Pro sports a quad-camera setup that comes with a 50x zoom technology. Now, Huawei fans are waiting for its Mate series flagship that the company launches in later months of the year. Currently, a report suggests that the company is working on its next Huawei Mate 30-series smartphones. If the company follows the usual launch pattern, we may get to see the Huawei Mate 30-series unveil sometime later in 2019. But before the official announcement or the launch of the device, leaks have started coming in about the upcoming smartphones.

According to the leaks, the Huawei Mate 30 Pro will sport a large screen with refresh rate of 90Hz –  similar to the OnePlus 7 Pro. Other than that, it will also feature a quad-camera setup like the Huawei P30 Pro, however, it will be placed in a different module and style. Other than the Pro variant, the company may also launch a Lite version of the Mate 30-series. But then, there is a possibility that the Huawei Mate 30 Lite will be launched with under a different name in China.

According to a new report from IT Home, the Huawei Mate 30 Lite will be powered by a new HiSilicon Kirin 810 CPU paired with Mali-G52 GPU. The new CPU – Kirin 810 SoC – comes with the new Huawei DaVinvi architecture NPU that is based on the Rubik’s Cube Quantitative Stereo Arithmetic Unit. Other than that, the Lite version of the Huawei Mate 30 is also expected to come with a punch-hole design that will house the 24MP selfie camera of the device.

Going by the rumours about the Huawei Mate 30 Lite, it is expected to feature a 6.4-inch (1080 x 2310 pixels) full display with a hole-punch camera cut out. It will reportedly sport a quad-rear camera setup that will be similar to that of Huawei Mate 20 Pro. It could also hold a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and will reportedly be available in two variants – 6GB RAM/ 128GB internal storage and 8GB RAM/ 256GB internal storage.

We should mention that because of the US trade ban, most American companies like Google, Microsoft and Qualcomm have halted their business with the Chinese smartphone brand. However, in spite of this, the Huawei Mate 30 Lite is expected to run Android 9 Pie skinned with EMUI. It will reportedly sport a large 4,000mAh battery that will have support for 20W fast charging. It should be noted that these specifications are based on leaks and there is no official word from the company about them.

Realme’s smartphone with Samsung’s 64MP main camera sensor to launch in India first

0

Earlier this year, Samsung showcased its 64MP sensor, which, we should mention, is the highest ever resolution for a smartphone lens so far. Following this, a number of reports surfaced online about Samsung planning to launch a handset with its 64MP camera. Soon, a report also said that Xiaomi will be using Samsung’s camera in its smartphone. Now, Realme has confirmed that its upcoming camera will also come with a 64MP sensor on its back panel.

The news has been confirmed by Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth, who tweeted a photo on his official Twitter handle taken from the 64MP sensor. This is a proof enough that the upcoming smartphone from Realme will come with a 64MP Samsung GW1 camera sensor. In addition to this, Sheth also said that the company will launch the smartphone in India first and then it will be unveiled in international markets.

The photo tweeted by the CEO was reportedly taken with Samsung’s 64MP camera sensor with 1/1.72-inch sensor and 1.6-microns pixel size. The image shared by Sheth is of a city taken from afar and it shows great details and a minimal level of noise. Sheth also said that the upcoming camera is capable of capturing clear shots and has great low-light imaging capabilities. The image comes with a watermark and this suggests that the smartphone will come with a quad-camera setup with the main camera being the 64MP sensor.

Sheath’s tweet read, “The camera sensor in talks is the Samsung’s 64MP ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor that is capable of capturing 16MP images in low light scenarios through the Tetracell technology introduced by the South Korean tech giant, Samsung. Other than that, the sensor would also support up to 100dbs real-time HDR and it would allow the users to record 1080p slow-motion videos as the sensor comes with Super PD PDAF technology. #DareToLeap.”

Other than the camera setup and the main camera details, no other information about other cameras as well as the smartphone itself are known. Realme is also planning to launch its Realme X and the Realme X Lite in the Indian market in the second half of the year. According to Realme, it had around 7.25% of market hold by the end of Q1 2019. However, the company is aiming for a market share hold of around 12% – 15% by the end of 2019.

Other than a new smartphone with quad-camera setup and 64MP main camera, the company is also aiming to launch a new 5G equipped smartphone in the Indian market. Not much is known about it as of now, but we will update you as we get to know more.

Gigi Hadid wants a change in copyright law for her Instagram account

0

Everyone has had the feeling at least once in their lives that they should be the ones making decisions on various social media networks. This can particularly be true if you have more than 48 million followers on Instagram. We are talking about Gigi Hadid. The famous model thinks that she should be able to post paparazzi photos on her Instagram account because her participation  – from posing to choosing what she wears for them – is very key and vital. She also believes that this actually invalidates the ownership claims of the photographer.

An agency called Xclusive-Lee has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit this year that says that Hadid posted one of their images on her Instagram account, and this violates the company’s copyright. In response to this, Hadid’s legal team filed a motion to dismiss in which they said that her posting the image was nowhere unfair because she contributed to the image that was captured in form of a smile and her outfit.

The memorandum of support states that Hadid did not infringe on any copyright. It further says that “Ms. Hadid posed for the camera and thus herself contributed many of the elements that the copyright law seeks to protect.” It also said that Hadid creative directed the photograph and not the photographer who took the shot on the streets of New York City. While the picture has now been deleted from Hadid’s Instagram account, it showed her in a denim outfit standing in a street of New York City and smiling.

Furthermore, the team has also said that since Hadid cropped the picture while posting it, she was only emphasizing on her contribution to the image by showing her pose to her followers and she did not show them the composition that was created by the photographer. It is worth mentioning that usually, photographers have full copyright when they capture a shot. This holds particularly true when the image is taken in public. The lawsuit and the arguments that are being made challenge this long-held assumption.

Speaking to technology website The Verge’s Why’d You Push That Button podcast, Tim Hwang, lawyer and director of Harvard and MIT’s Ethics and Governance of AI Initiative said, “The minute I create something, I have copyrights. I have rights over that content, and so really anything I create, if it is taken by someone else without my permission and copied and shared, I do theoretically have the right under the law to get it taken down, to control it, to protect and constrain that content.”

However, he did point out that “fair use” also means that people can skirt around copyright and this is particularly true if the image has been altered meaningfully. This is also considered fair if the person posting the photo is not making money out of it or doing it for a non-profit entity.

According to Hadid’s team, she is not making money from her Instagram account and has not done anything to derive Xclusive of its profits. The team said, “Ms Hadid merely reposted the photograph to her Instagram page and made no effort to commercially exploit it. Her reposting thus reflected a personal purpose different than the photographer’s purpose in taking the photograph, which was to commercially exploit Ms. Hadid’s popularity.”

Google Duo gets a Snapchat Stories-like feature

0

Video calling app Google Duo has rolled out a new update that allows users to share Snapchat-like single photos with their contacts. This new feature enables to send any of the saved pictures from their smartphone through Google Duo to their contacts.

A report in 9to5Google says, “Released on Thursday, version 56 of Google Duo adds the application to Android’s system share sheet, including in Google Photos and Files. This allows users to message any saved photo on their device via Duo.”

The report further says, “Once in the app, you have access to the same tools as when sending a video message. This includes drawing and adding text with multiple colours and sizes available. An image can then be simultaneously sent to multiple Duo contacts.”

We should mention that Duo competes with a number of other video calling apps that allow their users to send and receive images. This may be the season that Google decided to add the Snapchat-like feature.

With the feature, whenever the user shares its photos with any of its chosen contacts, the photos will automatically be deleted after 24 hours. This is not the first time when an app has rolled out such a feature. Apps like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and WhatsApp also come with similar features known as ‘Stories’ or ‘Status’ on their platforms.

However, Google has tweaked the feature a bit. While other platforms let users share these pictures with everyone, Duo lets people share it with a specific contact or a few people. The similarity is that they get deleted within 24 hours.

The video calling app already comes with a feature that allows its users to record or send audio messages to their desired contacts. If you already allow your app to auto-update there are chances that you might have received the Google Duo version 56 update.

To get the new feature, you can head to Google Play Store and update your app to the latest version.

After the update has been finished, you will now be able to enjoy sharing the self-destructive image to the contact of your choice. For doing this, you can head over to the gallery of your smartphone and then select the image that you want to share. Then, just tap on the share button and choose the contact you want to share the image with. you will also get an option to edit the photo by adding text and writing in various colours.

You can share the image with up to five contacts at once. When you select your desired contact and share the picture, it will appear in the thumbnail of the receiver’s contact with time and hours left.
